BUYER BEWARE, DISHONEST COMPANY OWNER Hired Ivan to soft wash my cedar shingle roof and fence for an upcoming sale of the home for a price of $1025. I told him it needed to be done by July 11th - when the painters were scheduled. He assured me he was knowledgeable and had cleaned many cedar roofs prior. We discussed that you can't do a full blast power wash or put chemicals on wood because it damages and makes the wood brittle and that a careful soft wash with just water is needed. We have had a cedar roof for 20 years and have had the roof cleaned several times prior. It requires cleaning periodically. 40 years after the prior owner installed a cedar roof, we replaced it with another cedar roof, 5 years ago. You can say we are very knowledgeable and have lived with cedar roofs for most of our lives and that this is a newly installed roof and in excellent shape, but dirty and needing cleaning after 5 years. Ivan scheduled the cleaning only 2 days before the painters. He did not come out to see the job nor asked for pictures. I assumed he often does quotes this way based on the size of the roof which he could access through public records. The week before and the morning of the cleaning I confirmed with Ivan as to when he was coming - 10am. But Ivan did not arrive. A man arrived alone and I was surprised again when it was not Ivan - who I had just confirmed with. His name was Vasco. I could tell as soon as Vasco arrived he was not pleased to find a cedar shake roof. Apparently, Ivan takes all of the calls and does some work himself, but subcontracts out much of his business. This was the case with Vasco, who was told via text from Ivan "soft clean cedar roof and fence $1025". Vasco explained he thought it was an asphalt roof but did check his text to find Ivan did say it was a cedar roof. He clearly did not want to wash it because he felt he was not being paid enough to do a cedar roof. He explained he only gets a portion of the job and felt it wasn't worth it. I told him we absolutely needed it washed today Saturday since the painters are coming Monday and even offered him more money. We could tell he was going to bail on us. He said he had 5 more jobs today. We asked that we call Ivan together to work this out. He put him on speaker phone but he would not speak English to Ivan and spoke at length with him before including us. I asked that we conference together but they just went on speaking to each other in their native language. Sure enough, when they were done Ivan explained to my husband and me that soft washing is applying a treatment only and that is what we had agreed to. Of course as soon as he said it we knew he was lying because we had discussed cleaning it which is the correct method not treating it which would damage it. Clearly he just wanted to dump us because he showed no interest in doing any kind of washing. He offered no options or solutions, just told Vasco to leave instead of even offering a price to wash. Vasco was right there with the correct equipment - which we had discussed was a harness for safety and the pressure washer which he could regulate in order to do a soft wash. Ivan will surely tell you in his defense a soft wash is appropriate and that power washing is not for a cedar roof. And he is correct. We discussed this prior to his quote when he told us that a soft wash is a controlled wash so as not to damage the roof. This is the type of wash we had always performed prior to hiring him. But once Vasco was here and clearly did not want to do the job, Ivan completely changed his story that a soft wash is spraying on a treatment to kill algae (chemicals) and that that is what he planned all along for over a thousand dollars, and had the nerve to say - that is what we had agreed to! Anyone who knows anything about a cedar shake roof is you do not apply any chemicals or treatment to cedar shakes as this will only dry out and severely degrade the wood. Ivan is a rat and con man who clearly chooses to lie rather than fix his mistake, all while knowing he put me in a terrible bind with the painters and putting the home on the market. To further prove my point he also quoted me to soft wash not just the roof, but the fence. Does it make any sense that that means anything other than washing it?? Mind you this was to get the house ready for sale. Do you honestly believe a man who owns a power washing company intended not to wash the roof and fence but instead treat it to over time to kill algae for over $1000.00? read more

Fast response, reasonable prices and a fantastic job, cleaning our windows with high pressure filtered water and no soap, which is such a more eco-friendly process with a better finish on top (no squeegee traces, no dripping soap under the frames, etc.) Edward paid attention to the least detail, and "shaved" with a razor blade tiny droplets of paint which dated from the house construction and we'd never noticed before! Unreliable service and abusive staff- please stay away! I was taken in by all the great reviews and called to make an appointment for gutter cleaning. I was given a quote of $195 and got a confirmed appointment a couple of weeks out. I had not heard anything the day of my appointment so called to confirm. They got back and said that they could not make the appointment and will come a week later. The day of rescheduled appointment, I got another voicemail saying that they won't be able to come that day either and will make it out next week. At that point I told them that I don't want them to come all together and was told there is a $99 charge for cancellations. When I refused to pay that charge the person on the other line started shouting and abusing. I am shocked by this behavior and would not recommend them in a million years. read more

Phenomenal experience with this company! If you need your gutters cleaned, do not hesitate to call Hi-Cleaners right now, like right now. I needed my gutters and downspouts cleaned for a couple of seasons now but, you know how it goes. You call people, they don't call you back. If they do call you back, they reschedule multiple times or simply never show up when they are supposed to. One very highly recommended guy last year did all of the above including texting me an hour before he was supposed to come, for about the 4th time, to tell me it was too cold for him to work and he's home warming up with some hot chocolate....maybe he would come another day. Uhm, you clean gutters in the Fall in New England AND your ass is from Maine but it's too cold??? Ok, you absolute clown. Fired. Anyway, it's been a complete nightmare trying to get someone to do such a simple job. I was actually trying to contact another local company on Yelp but when I sent the request, it went to other companies who may also be interested. Well, to our complete surprise, Hi-Cleaners called us directly within about 10 minutes. 5 minutes later, we had an actual appointment set. Our original appointment day this past Wednesday was a washout and, being scarred from previous experiences with other companies, we were nervous they wouldn't show up or contact us or that they wouldn't be able to fit us in at this point. But, not only did they call Monday to acknowledge the forecast and proactively reschedule, they said they would be out today, a Sunday, and there he was right on time! Edward not only did a phenomenal job, thoroughly cleaning the gutters and downspouts, but he quickly fixed one small area that was on backwards and he took the time to give us an assessment of what he saw as far as fascia board that was beginning to rot due to lack of flashing etc while he was up there. No benefit to him or the company since they don't handle that, but he wanted us to know so we could get it fixed before it became a real problem. So impressed. I sent a message out yesterday, Ivan responded by text soon afterwards, and was able to give me an estimate based on my address off of Google maps (I think). Edward came today and did a great job. Very cost effective, professional, polite, prompt and great quality work. Edward gave me some great tips to minimize the leaf clutter in my old gutter system, and on how to cost effectively address a blocked underground drain. Had them come to do inside and outside of one picure window and one set of sliding patio doors inside and out. 195.00 was the price told to us upfront. Many places charge this fee but include many more windows for this price. Still I was desperate as my husband's boss was visiting. So courteous guys and quick; however, patio doors were left with streaks and my husband and I (both in our mid 60's ) had to redo the doors. Wouldn't use them again. read more
