I spent the best days of my childhood summers at Hidden Lake Farm riding and showing, with fox hunting in the winter. We would get to the barn at 6 am, feed and water the horses, take the first lesson of the day, and then spend the rest of the day at the barn grooming, saddling, mucking, and helping out with lessons. We ran horses for beginners, leading them on foot around the ring at a walk and trot. Anything to be around horses! At 15 I led trail rides to the Sound thru the woods and potato farms, down along the beach. On super hot days we would end afternoon lessons with a bareback trail ride to swim the horses in the cool waters of Long Island Sound. My favorite horses were Lady and Brandy and Windsong and Brigadoon and No Fair and especially Stormy, but I loved them all! I haven't been back to the Farm in 45 years but visit the North Fork several times a year to see family. Today I revisited the area by walking on the county trails along the Sound. I'm not one to write reviews but I must take the time to post about this incredible place. Jackie is hands down the best riding instructor I've ever had- and I've been riding since I was a child in NYC, CT, MD and TX! I spent the summer here visiting family (now live in TX) and I learned more from her in 5 lessons than I have in all my other riding lessons combined. She is the real deal and genuinely wants you to become a great rider. So many lessons I've taken are from trainers who seem so uninterested in your trajectory as a rider and more interested in getting you in and out of the ring in time for the next paying lesson. Jackie is the opposite. She truly wants to see you excel at riding. If only I could convince Jackie to move to Dallas!! Also must mention that Edgar and Leah are also wonderful people. I just completed one week of Horse School Camp right along with a group of children attending Pony Camp. The Owner/Pro-Trainer and decades long Equestrian Award Winner is Jackie. She is the most knowledgeable and articulate instructor I have ever experienced in this sport. Still committed to excellence and respect, her students and horses/ponies are treated with a caring manner and warmth while remaining focused on the skill/art the sport requires within a respectful culture. The Horse/Pony Counselor is Lia. An educator by profession and a horse lover by heart, she gets to perform her two loves at once while counseling the camp. Hidden Lake is by far a wonderful place to send a child for either summer horse camp or private lessons. Jackie is so knowledgeable and truly professional. And, her assistant, Ms. Lia is a gem as well. Our 10 year old attended the camp for a week last summer and again this year. She enjoyed it so much that we brought her back for private lessons. She loved it! It is a beautiful landscape on acres of property located in Southold, NY. It is just an absolute treasure. They are so great with all of the youngsters, and the hands-on training they get is second to none. I am ecstatic to have found a superlative, kind, experienced teacher like Jackie to teach my granddaughter the finer points of riding. I am a now retired rider myself and have had lots of experience with many instructors, but Jackie is at the head of the class. She really knows her stuff and is expert at homing in on what needs to be worked on. She is also careful and attentive to the safety of both rider and horse. This past summer, I had the pleasure of taking riding lessons at Hidden Lake Farm with Jackie. I rode with her as a child and it brought back many fond memories. Although it has grown in size since my younger years, it still has the feeling of being a warm and friendly barn. While Jackie is a lot of fun, she is very serious when it comes to her teaching of equitation. If I lived closer, I would keep my horse with her and continue my lessons on a more regular basis. This is a gem of a place in the North Fork. I had friends visiting from Australia, and my friend's daughter's only wish while in America was to ride a horse. So I quickly started to research options and discovered Hidden Lake Farm. Miss Jackie (as he is known by the kids) is a wonderful teacher and made the entire riding experience super special for my friends. Love Jackie! The best trainer. Takes pride in each and everyone of her students and helps them go beyond in their riding. She is very willing to help you get where you want to be and has been so so kind to everyone of her clients and had shown nothing but respect. The horses are very well taken care of and spend most of their day on big green paddocks. You can tell she loves her horses by the way she handles them. My two daughters have attended camp with Jackie the owner for the last 2 years. It has been the best experience for them and they can't wait to go back next year.
