All the animals are very friendly, including Henrietta the chicken who gently pecks at you to demand a pat (who knew chickens were so snuggly?!) My kids really enjoyed the relaxed no hype time and want to go back right away. Be careful driving in and backing out. The animals are free range and Henrietta often leads them out to greet arriving cars.

Easy enough process and we were booked for the afternoon. Things were running a little late but no big deal by us - we passed the time in the area and headed back. We killed another 10 minutes petting the very friendly goats wandering about before getting saddled up for a ride. Our guide was a very young but very knowledgeable girl our from NYC for the summer. She was so sweet and my wife chatted with her about horses the entire time we walked the trails. Wise beyond her years is an understatement. She was a joy and we're both terribly sorry we didn't seem to catch her name. The trail was easy and quiet. We trotted a few times and our guide checked on us every 5-7 minutes to make sure we were comfortable and feeling good. She noticed my saddle slipped right away and guided me through fixing it. Total pro! We did an hour - it was a bit much for me after around 40 minutes but I'm not an experienced rider so maybe that's why. The trail is a loop so don't expect a full hour of unique sights. However, we really found it peaceful and enjoyable. It was $75/each which we felt was fair. Two tips: 1. Cash only, so bring enough! 2. Tip your guide!

The trails were awesome and Janet was so incredibly nice and knowledgeable. I took my boyfriend for his birthday and he loved it!! I would recommend wearing stretchy/loose fitting jeans. You definitely dont want something too tight as itll be extremely uncomfortable and painful when in the saddle. It can be painful in your inner thighs after a while but Janet gave some good tips to minimize that feeling! After the 1.25h ride we got to feed the horses apples and carrots (they loveeeee carrots!) that we had brought from our home. DEFINITELY recommend going here and maybe deeper into the Spring as we didnt get to see much greenery since things are JUST beginning to bloom - but thats not their fault!

I won't list all of them - just some highlights. My friend, who is not experienced, wanted to do this trail ride for our birthdays and we thought it would be fun. I've been on trail rides all over the world and know what to expect, and have never pulled out of a ride because I didn't feel safe until this place. I was the first person to be mounted and when the horse came out, I could see that the saddle was improperly placed too far back. I didn't say anything because it's not my place, but when I mounted, the girth was clearly too loose as the saddle started to slip. I told them that the girth was too loose and also that the saddle seemed to far back so Janet said let's reset the saddle and asked me how I would do it! She didn't seem to know the proper placement or how tight to make the girth because apparently this happened before. She then told me to walk down the lawn and let the horse graze while I waited for the rest of the group. It's not a safe practice to let horses graze while mounted, especially with beginners, but apparently that's what they do regularly. When the group was ready to leave, Janet started off on her horse and just about 30 yards from the barn, before even getting to the trail, the horse tripped and fell all the way down to the ground!! Janet fell off of course, and the horse walked off. If I had any doubt that all the red flags I'd clocked were right, this confirmed it. She was shaken up but ok, but didn't go on the ride, I don't know what was up with the horse but if a horse falls down just walking across a lawn, that raises questions about soundness and safety that are serious.

Can't say enough good things about this place!!…read more I came out here with a group of 10 for a bachelorette party in October and we had an amazing experience! Cate, the owner was an absolute delight to work with and she was so helpful. I probably called 10 different times with numerous questions/changing the group size, etc. and she was so patient and accommodating. They provide the helmets and any additional equipment needed for the horse back ride. Our group was a divide of some experienced riders and some total beginner's, some of which were very nervous and afraid (myself included) and they were really good about helping us feel comfortable. There was a guide at the beginning and the end of the group. The ride was pretty long, about an hour and a half and we went onto the beach for part of it which was really pretty. We also did some advanced riding, called trotting, which was a bit scary, as a non-horse lover, but it ended up being fun! This is definitely a fun and different activity. I will warn that it is pricey though at 180$/person!

We wanted a half hour ride but because no one booked, they start de-Satteling early?? Then a family of 5 came after us, all denied. That's 7 customers. It's a shame. Should really change website. Wasted my gas, and time. At 150pm, for 30 mins, there should be no issue on giving us a ride especially when there's no bookings.

After moving to Manhattan the opportunities to ride were few and far between. I was drawn to the North Fork for many reasons not the least of which was the farm/horse culture and after debating where to ride I turned to the locals for suggestions. Almost everyone suggested I call Jackie Bittner the owner and operator of Hidden Lake. It was the best call I could have made. Hidden Lake is absolutely wonderful in every possible way. The scenery is idyllic, the horses are superbly taken care of and Jackie's dedication to her craft is addictive. She is so passionate about her horses and her riders that riding with her feels almost like a gift. It has been almost 4.5 years that I've been riding at Hidden Lake and I sincerely can't imagine taking instruction from anyone else. As a note to all those in the Hamptons where I lived and rode horses, please consider making the brief trip to the North Fork instead. The price is right, the horses are fabulous, the instructor is wonderful, patient and kind and the down-to-earth environment of Hidden Lake will remind you of falling in love with riding as we did in childhood. I know this happened for me at Hidden Lake under the instruction of Jackie Bittner and for that I am so grateful.
