Good spot, easy to forget it's still in the city…read more I've been here a handful of times, usually after work or on weekends when I need to get outside for a bit. Once you're on the trails it gets surprisingly quiet. Like, noticeably quieter than you'd expect from somewhere still technically inside Philadelphia. The paths are mostly flat gravel so it's not a hard walk at all. I tend to stop on the boardwalks and just look out over the marsh for a few minutes. Last time there were a few turtles lined up on a log, and I'm pretty sure I spotted a couple of herons near the water too. You do hear planes since the airport's close by, but it doesn't really bother me. Kind of adds to the strangeness of the place in a way I actually like. One thing worth knowing: the mosquitoes are no joke. I skipped bug spray once and regretted it pretty quickly. If you're going in summer, just bring some, especially if you're planning to hang around near the water.

I struggle with the trash in the marshes, I am not sure if it is the wind picking it up but I hope there can be more effort cleaning up. It was also extremely sad to see the turtles covered in oil which seems like pollutants from the water. Nonetheless, the trails are nice to walk on. The trails have no elevation but are nicely graveled.

Hard to rate an entire park this massive, but all things considered, after 5 years of traversing the trails here, this is an awesome park. Note that I live in U-City, so the fact that such a massive trail system exists in only a ~20 minute drive, depending on which part of the park I start in, is a blessing and keeps my sanity. Friends of Wissahickon does a great job maintaining trails and even expanding the system over the past few years. I don't think I've ever observed an unseemly part of the park. Definitely unseemly times of year like the snow thaw or the time between the trees dying and the snow falling, but otherwise, this park is beautiful all times of year. I've never had a hard time parking, never even had trouble with crowds even around the most popular trails (ex. Forbidden Drive). Even the bikers are friendly and patient here! Would strongly recommend not only visiting but coming back to keep exploring! I'm still finding new gems in this massive trail system.

What I've known about Devil's Pool is that it's been a popular hangout spot, especially for teens and young adults--swimming, drinking, smoking, etc. But I wasn't prepared for how disappointing the trail would be. At nearly every turn, there was trash--plastic bottles, wrappers, and even entire black garbage bags just left behind. The closer I got to Devil's Pool, the worse it got. There are clear signs asking visitors to take their trash with them, yet so many clearly don't. It's really disheartening to see such a beautiful natural space disrespected like that. Instead of feeling peaceful or connected to nature, it honestly felt a bit unsanitary and neglected. Wissahickon Park deserves better. If you visit, please respect the space and take out everything you bring in.

Loads of fun! It was my first time sailing and my friend is a member of the sailing club. He and…read morehis friend taught me how to prep the sails and pull up the sails. I also got to steer the tiller. We got some wind which was definitely helpful. haha. It was fun learning how to work with the wind, I still have a lot to learn. But I highly recommend this place for anyone that likes the outdoors and doesnt get motion sick. I am looking forward to finding time to go again! :) The people I met that day were all really great and we had dinner together afterwards at the club house. :)

Essentially this is a club for anyone in philly that is interested in learning to sail for leisure or competitively. This is the best alternative to owning your own boat (that is if you don't have a friend that owns a boat), as the club funds itself through its annual dues to pay for maintenance of their fleet, which consists of 7 -J-27's. The group is a good mix of young and experienced sailors, and they certainly know how to have fun. They have their own club house, which they meet at before and after each day for food and drinks (they have their own wet bar.) Overall, if you are looking to sail in Philly, look no further.

By hiking standards, I'd rate this as very easy, as the trail is flat and wide, with a combination of dirt and gravel for walking. The Towpath runs along the Manayunk Canal and Schulykill River beyond and makes for a nice, peaceful stroll along the water. Along the way you see plenty of artwork and murals, as well as eerie remnants of a time when this place was a booming center for industry. Fascinating! Being it was late fall, there wasn't a lot of wildlife out and about, but I'm sure it's even more beautiful and alive in the warmer months. PS. Main Street in Manayunk runs parallel to the Towpath and is a great place to explore in and of itself! Plenty of unique shops and eateries to be found.

Recently went to a wedding here. The venue and grounds are beautiful and in an old mansion with an…read moreattached outside tented area. The wedding ceremony complete with folding chairs very close together was in an open area just beyond the tented area. Luckily the ceremony was early enough before dusk to keep the bugs at bay. The reception in the tented area was spacious with a great layout. After dinner we were ushered to the dance floor inside the estate. It was an awkwardly small room which connected to another small room with one side exiting onto a patio through large windows which were hard to navigate in heels. Two bathrooms were in an out building off the tented area with unlit paths and uneven steps. Just some observations. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Catering service was good.

The host had rented an eagles bus so that was parked where the friends and family were gathering. He was grilling and had tables out with food. We brought our camp chairs and table and set up under a big tree. It was a really nice day and the party turned out great. This was my first time to this park for a gathering. I normally find myself just heading here if I want to enjoy the Delaware River, the quiet, the sunshine, etc. they also have a gazebo that I've eaten lunch with my mom in years ago.

POD is a large park with a lot to offer. There are fields and benches, paved trails and more rugged…read moreones. Meadows, trees, open spaces. It has it all, and tons of parking. You can come here with your kids or dog, observe the flora and fauna, run, bird, have a picnic, or just take in the views of the river. As a birder I was especially interested in the vast meadow area past the sports fields. There's so much to see and do!

A beautiful and serene waterfront park along the Delaware River…read more Plenty of parking space inside the park. Located in the Torresdale section of Northeast Philadelphia. There are trails and ponds to explore. Great for fishing as it was a 20th-century fish hatchery remnant. Across the river is Amico Island Park in NJ. Includes a bathroom, and playground, and hosts events for all ages throughout the year. When we were here: the park police ensured safety making sure we left before the rain/thunderstorm hit where the water levels rose.
