Delicious wine off the beaten path! We visited Hiddencroft Vineyards on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in November, and there were two couples there when we arrived and four couples when we left. The property is nicely manicured with a large outdoor patio for enjoying your wine and limited indoor seating options. The vineyard is run by a married couple who conduct all the tastings and produce all the wine themselves. I tried the red wine flight and enjoyed four of the six wines that I tried. The other two weren't bad, but they were not something I would want again. I really enjoyed the Cabernet Sauvignon. I would highly recommend visiting Hiddencroft Vineyards if you are in the area. read more

Great hidden gem winery away from the bustling crowds and delicious affordable wine. The homey staff is super friendly with a laid-back casual vibe. We love coming back and bringing our family and friends. The wines change up in the spring and fall, so def come back! The winery has a a small rooms on the main floor and a few rooms upstairs, good for couples and small groups. Walk-ins are welcomed, you can make a reservation to be on the same side (I made one during the pandemic). There's a large communal firepit where dogs are welcomed! You can bring your own food! There's a small refrigerator with cheeses, water, snacks, and crackers too. There's no kitchen or charcuterie boards. The $8 tastings are worth it! My hubby and I enjoyed the White flight more than the dry Red flight. The 2018 Traminette is an off-dry white with 1% residual sugar and tastes like Champagne - hubby's favorite! I prefer the slightly sweeter dry 2019 Traminette the came out in the spring. I also enjoyed the sweet 2019 Petit Manseng with 2.5% residual sugar, the Traminette and Petit Manseng are so good combined! The 2018 Cab Franc Rose has an amazing aroma and pairs so well with cheese and crackers. The new Grandma's Love Potion blueberry port is also quite tasty, glad I got a glass! The winery offers 10% discount on 1/2 case of wine. Sometimes, they offer twin pack specials. We got a great deal on the 2018 Traminette and Petit Manseng for only $31 (it's $42 sold separately)! When combined, the Traminette cuts the sweetness of the Petit Manseng and tastes like Mead! Bought a twin pack for us and my parents as their anniversary gift! We love coming here and ALWAYS buy bottles. My sister-in-law bought 8 bottles and we bought 3 bottles each time we visited. Great winery, truly a hidden gem! read more

Truly a must go to Winery. We had a chance to speak with Clyde who explained the wine making process to us that is used by their winery. We loved all their Reds but were drawn to buy several bottles of Serenity before leaving. The atmosphere here is great. We had planned on visiting 3 wineries but ended up just staying here. The second stop of a 3-winery July visit. Had the good fortune of having Clyde, their wine maker, as my server. His wife even recognized me from previous visits! Great combination of excellent wine, atmosphere, and affordability. $7 fee for tasting 10 or more wines. Most were in the low $20-range. The tasting room is not especially large, but then it probably doesn't need to be. Hiddencroft is definitely tucked away on a dirt farm road, which means it lacks the big crowds of more built-up locations (which as a customer I find is a good thing). I appreciate wineries that take the time to age their product and grow their own grapes; they do both. With only 6 acres under vine they buy and sell some grapes but 90% of their wines are estate grown. Most wines spend around 36 months in barrel; the 'youngest' wine spends 'only' 30 months in barrel. Considering how many wineries are keeping them in barrel only 12 months, that's impressive. Many but not all the reds trend towards a fruity palate; in fact several (Grandma's Love Potion and Sweet Cherry) are made entirely with fruits (blueberry and cherry, respectively), and the Vitus Rubus is made with 1/3rd raspberry. It was hard to pick a single favorite; here are some highlights: Grandma's Love Potion: 100% Blueberry (and 13% alcohol). If Clyde hadn't told me I wouldn't have known it wasn't a grape-based wine. No overt fruitiness or sweetness to it. I've had it during previous visits but the most recent vintage is clearly superior to the previous ones. Sweet Cherry: LOVE the nose; I've made brownies with this (unsuccessfully, but not because of the wine). If you like cherry wines, try this one. 2009 Cab Franc: Fruity nose and palate, full bodied. Not earthy like other Franc's I'm accustomed to. 2012 Petit Verdot: Concur with the tasting note description of 'dark and tannic'. 2010 Chambourcin: Full bodied - and actually NOT fruity like other Chambourcins I've had. Probably a good vintage for those who normally don't like this grape. 2010 Tranquility (Cab Sav and Tannat): Not often on the tasting menu but I lucked out. Made in partnership with 8 Chains North and Tarara wineries. I wish Tannat grew better here! Oh, and one more thing: if you buy a case, you are a member for LIFE, which includes free tastings. read more

Hidden gem of a vineyard. This place is quite literally hidden you will drive on what you think is a drive way for miles until you're here! They let me try I believe 12 wines on the tasting for 8 dollars which might be the best deal on tastings in VA. They had a great range of fruit wine, whites and reds. I loved the apple white wine because it was dry and refreshing at the same time. They let us bring food (with tasting room purchase) so we sat outside on the beautiful country side with our cheese plate! read more

Hiddencroft Vineyards was our first stop in our vineyard hopping trip on this foggy, rainy day! Getting there was definitely a trek, leading us down a pothole filled road, which definitely wasn't a highlight of the trip. Wine selection - 5 They had an outstanding tasting selection ranging from a rosé, to whites, dry reds, and fruit wines. There is definitely at least one wine you will like! My favorites ended up being the Grandma's Love Potion and the Blackberry - both having fruity berry flavors. Atmosphere - 4 The atmosphere was definitely very cozy and relaxing. The inside of the tasting rooms had 2 large bars available for the tastings. I imagine that the scenery around the vineyard is beautiful in the warmer months. There's lots of outdoor seating, and ample seating upstairs. There's also a cute gift shop that sells pretty neat wine accessories, like wine tots and holders. Wine presentation - 3 Definitely not trying to be a downer, but the presentation of the wine here wasn't as good as most places I've been. It just felt kind of rushed and uncomfortable with too many gaps of silence. No sort of "where are you from?" bantor, that I enjoy. Overall, I give Hiddencroft a 4! I really liked this place and will definitely be back in the nicer, summer months. read more

Gives you a generous pour for each tasting and there were many wines offered for the tasting. All the wines were very delicious! We had an opportunity to visit this little winery last weekend. We attended a dog rescue fundraiser. Our ticket included a free wine tasting as well as a goodie bag from the dog rescue. The first piece of advice I want to give you is be sure to follow Mountain Road. We made the mistake of following the google maps GPS and it took us down 10 miles of gravel road. They have a small parking lot and overflow into the grass. The tasting included seven wines. The reds were my favorite. The had a couple of sweeter wines with about 1% residual sugar so it wasn't too sweet. The pours were tiny compared to what other wineries will pour. The cost of a tasting is $8 which is pretty reasonable. There are plenty of seating options both inside and outside. There's a giant barn that was used for the fundraiser. I'm not sure if that is used for tastings or seating during the normal weekends. This winery is definitely off the beaten path. It's not one that I would visit had it not been for this fundraiser. The staff was friendly despite the large crowd that converged on their property. read more

Hiddencroft is one of our absolute favorite wineries! The care that goes into the wines is above and beyond, and there's something for everyone! When serving the tastings they give information about each one and are wonderful about answering questions as well. We have been going there for many years (we celebrated our oldest daughter's 21st birthday there, because we enjoyed the owners and the wine, and she's 33 now) and even though we've moved almost 3 hours away, we still periodically make the drive out there to restock, and enjoy the tasting along with the relaxing atmosphere. read more

This winery works closely with both Fabbioli and Sunset Hills. Clyde (the owner) has been growing grapes for years. His spot is a little hard to find (make sure you approach the winery from route 9, and follow the signs). The tasting room has a real industrial feel but he makes wine here; he's not a gift store. Their Chambourcin is fantastic. Both the regular and the "Reserve." (Spend the extra $2 for the Reserve). The Vidal Blanc is wonderful (crisp and dry), but their stand out red is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Tannat. Clyde admits a fondness for making fruit wines too--currently he has a cherry, raspberry and blueberry wine (he also had an apple wine at one time). He has a few outdoor tables, as well as a gazebo. You really feel like you're away from it all here.....one of the best spots in the county. read more

What a find folks put into your GPS and head out to Hidden Croft Vineyard. It's well worth the drive. Sitting on the patio you can listin to brook as it passes as you enjoying the view. Best winery in VA, bar none. I've visited at least 50 around the state (some might say I have a problem), so I have a big basis of comparison. Have been coming to Hiddencroft for a few years and the wine has consistently been terrific. And I mean all of it - red, white, and fruit wines. I disagree with previous reviews about the staff - they are family owned and operated, and I've had nothing but wonderful interactions with them over the years. Stop in for a tasting and there is a good chance you'll be served by the winemaker himself. He'll patiently answer all your questions about his process, wines he's planning to release, how the crop looks this year, etc. His wife Terry is warm and welcoming, remembering us after our very first visit. Compared to other wineries, the prices are very reasonable for tastings and bottles. You can also get a glass of anything on the tasting menu if you don't want to buy an entire bottle. But few things are more relaxing than enjoying a bottle in the sunshine on their beautiful historic property. Like other VA wineries, they offer membership in a "case club" with free tastings, discounts and special events - but unlike the others, the only criteria for membership is buying a case of their delicious wine. No joining fee, no obligation to buy additional bottles. If you are part of a booze bus outing, or in a big group with lots of kids and dogs, you are better off at one of the larger commercial wineries. Hiddencroft is perfect for dates and anyone looking for a more relaxed atmosphere - and the best wine made in VA. read more

19 of us visited, with 16 partaking in the tasting. Three of us decided to drink beer. A woman working here told us that we couldn't drink the beer, and we apologized and put it away. We said we'd put it back on our bus. She was very rude about it and immediately told our friend that she wanted them to settle up the tab, essentially kicking them out before they were done with the tasting. We left to drink beer on the air conditioned bus so our friends could stay, and were happy to sit far away from the uncomfortable chairs and wasps. There are plenty of wineries that aren't so mean. Not worth it. UPDATE: Explaining the law to us doesn't mean it's okay to be rude to us in person and on Yelp. We meant no harm and did not disregard the law on purpose and compiled immediately. Had a lovely tasting with the owner's wife. She mentioned she doesn't always do tastings, but she was spot on in describing the wines. The place was not very busy, there are two separate tasting bars and we were the only ones at our bar. Other people came in and out at the owner's bar. After our tasting we enjoyed a glass out on the deck. The standouts were definitely the fruit wines (for me at least). I enjoyed Sweet Cherry and ordered a glass of "Grandma's Love Potion" (blueberry). I liked that they offer chocolates with the tasting. I think we will be back. read more

Summary: Come here for Leesburg's best wine and a beautiful garden. Do not be deterred by the drive! Wine (5/5): One tasting goes through 10 different wines. Except for the non-grape wines (which I am admittedly biased against), all the whites and reds are among the best I have had in the northern Virginia vitacultural area. The winemaker himself walked our group through the history and process of each wine and their grapes. His internationally-competitive double gold Petit Verdot is his pride joy and you will probably like it just as much. Environment (4/5): Medium-size tasting room with a standing wine bar. Good for small and medium groups. I believe there might have been a larger room upstairs for a bigger group. View (3/5):Plenty of natural light comes in but there's nothing to see but a well-tended garden. If you sit outside, you'll be close to the vines. You can bring in your own food and there is prepared food to order. My wife and I have the goal of touring all the vineyards in the state with the 2015 VA Wine Pass. Each place we go we're looking for an interesting wine-tasting environment, a beautiful view and most importantly delicious wine. We stopped by Hiddencroft this weekend for the first time since moving to Lovettsville. It it way back off of a gravel road and at one point I thought there was no way we were ever going to make it. We finally arrived and followed the signs to park. This winery is so peaceful. I noticed it as soon as we stepped out of the car. It was so quiet and serene. There weren't many cars there, but it was a 90 degree day. We made the short walk from the parking lot to the tasting room. The tasting room is inside a converted house. We were greeted by a multitude of butterflies in the gardens outside. Beautiful. We went inside to do a tasting. We met one of the owners who was on site as well. The tasting was nice. Our server asked our names and wanted to know about us. The tastings are $8.00 which is a good price for this area. We were also told that the owner rotates the wines on the tasting list every month. We tried 10-12 wines. We started with 2 roses which I was excited about but sadly did not enjoy. They were not well balanced and were very acidic to me. I did however enjoy the chardonnay, and I am not a chardonnay fan but it was a really hot day and it was quite an easy drinking wine. They also have a few reds on the menu but none really struck my fancy. Then we got the fruit wines (I know, I know, but I do like a good blackberry wine!). They were pretty good. They had a blackberry, red raspberry, pomegranate, and a blueberry. I did end of purchasing a bottle of the blackberry wine as it is hard to find around here and I did enjoy it. We got two glasses and went upstairs to sit. They converted the additional rooms upstairs into sitting rooms for patrons. I liked it the feel of being in an old farmhouse but we ended up going outside to watch the butterflies. Overall I would come back, especially in the fall when the weather cools off. Over the past few months this has become our favorite winery. Clyde and Terry are wonderful people and make some great wine. The Petit Verdot and Merlot are outstanding. The tasting room is in an old farmhouse surrounded by beautiful land and a bubbling creek. It's not overrun with people and limo's like most wineries. I am not a big fan of dessert wines, but their cherry wine is excellent and I recommend putting it over ice cream or cheesecake. The new tasting room is beautiful. The location is absolutely beautiful as the winery is tucked in northern Virginia's Appalachian Mountains near Harpers Ferry. The major problem with this location it's that you have to drive on dirt roads to get to the winery, so that by the time you arrive at the winery there is dust everywhere. The winery offers a large selection of wines, as well as a bunch of nibblely snacky items. Problem, everything is expensive. If your going bring a picnic basket with your own snacks. The wines are good but also expensive. You can get a 5% discount if you buy three or more bottles. Also tastings are $7, which is a lot more than we're used to paying in Maryland. Unlike most wineries we go to Hidden Croft does not offer a military discount at all. While the wine was good, there are far too many negatives for me to make it worth our while got another trip. So we will never be back. read more

I love this vineyard, through and through. I've been several times before and I intend to keep going back. This is a young vineyard and the owner is very visible, pouring the tastings himself and doing all of the beautiful landscaping with his very friendly and visible wife. He's the winemaker as well and provides lots of good info on each wine and he always has an answer for your questions. He's been growing for years and once provided extra tomatoes for grabs in the tasting room - what a treat! As for the wines, they are fantastic. My favorite is the reserve Cabernet Franc - its a beautiful, rich wine that sticks to the sides of the glass and has a flavor that crawls into every crack and crevasse of your tastebuds and nose. I buy it every time I go there! The vineyard also provides some really lovely white wines. Go for the Chardonnay if you like rich white wines, try the Traminette if you like to sip sweetly. Speaking of sweet, the owner/winemaker has a wild talent for fruit wines! During my tasting I tried blueberry (fantastic), apple (bought a bottle), and cherry (my sis bought that one), to name a few. Hiddencroft is a great vineyard with good wines, an educated and passionate winemaker, and fantastic prices. The view is great, with fruit trees in the yard and the grape vines a stone's throw away from the tasting room and picnic area. My husband and I have tried a few wineries in Loudoun County and had yet to find a really good one until this weekend. Hiddencroft Vineyard really surprised us!! I was impressed by their reds, especially their Cabernet Franc. It was delicious and so easy to drink. This is a family-owned and run winery. We were welcomed by the winemaker's daughter into the barn for a tasting. She taught us about the history of the winery and how winemaking started out as a hobby. After her father's retirement, he made this a full-time job. She was very knowledgeable and proud of each wine and I absolutely enjoyed her descriptions. They even had a 2-person band that was pretty good and made the experience even more enjoyable. Overall, this won our hearts. We will return again! read more

Truly a hidden gem in Virginia. When we arrived for our reservation we got to enjoy beautiful views of the property on our walk in and from our tasting room. The tasting flights are carefully put together to maximize your wine tasting experience and I was taken aback by how vast their wine collection is. The vineyard has such a homey welcoming feeling to it and the staff makes you feel like you belong. The blackberry wine's oaky finish took me back to sitting by a campfire with my husband like nostalgia in a bottle. This was our favorite vineyard place on the entire tour. I love that everyone else enjoyed their experience, as well, and it sounds like everyone else had the same help from Clyde, the owner, that we received. That says something about the place. It's nice to see the owner so visible, pouring our tastings and sharing his knowledge and interest with us. The grounds were pretty - with an old-fashioned barn that you get to walk through to head up to the tasting building. They have a nice deck we sat on to enjoy our wine. The wines were all very good. I love Traminette and Chambourcin, and Hiddencroft had both, and both were exceptional. Our favorites, though, were the Grandma's Love Potion (hints of blueberry) and the Sweet Cherry - good fruit, dessert wines. He gave us a "sneak peek" of his new blackberry wine, which was absolutely delicious! We ended up buying both the Traminette and the Grandma's Love Potion. I would definitely recommend stopping by Hiddencroft. We have been to a lot of Virginian vineyards, and this, by far, is one of our favorites. We will definitely be back. read more
