We visited there on a Sunday evening. The atmosphere and servers were pleasant. Unfortunately, while they advertise food, they only had chips and pretzels... The drinks were good but the glasses were only 1/2 full (and they were small glasses to begin with) . For $9 a drink I expected more. We had a coupon for free appetizers which didn't pay off really as they had no appetizers. Will not return again. read more

A friend recommended this bar and I have no idea why. I went and the owner was incredibly rude and disrespectful to us. His drinks were below average and unimpressive and way overpriced. There are plenty of other places with better service and better drinks, even the dive bars of South Bend offer better drinks. read more

This is the coolest bar, and Jerry is the best bartender! We were in town for a family event, and stopped in here for some cocktails to unwind. The drinks were great--- I had the aviation and one other, and my fiance got a Sazerac and two others. The best part of the visit was the history of the place-- it's 100 years old-- and chatting with the bartender/owner Jerry. Jerry told us all sorts of interesting facts about the space, and really cool stories about his own life. That's not to mention that he somehow remembered all of our names without being introduced. Really dig this little place. The world needs more bars like this, no grand pretensions, but no tv's either. It's the perfect spot for a relaxed drink and a good chat. My only gripe is that they can't seem to decide what they want to be. On one hand they bill themselves as a "craft" cocktail bar, and they price themselves that way, but I'd advise anyone looking for an $11 cocktail to head over to the Exchange. The Hideaway is more neighborhood pub and the cocktail quality reflects that. On the other hand they have a really good absinthe selection (!!) which no other bar in town has. They even do the full service, which is a treat everyone should enjoy at least once. The staff is so dang friendly, though. Everyone is welcome here. Definitely stop in. read more

Yikes. I was trying to meet up with my brother here. It was drizzling out and he was running late, so I came inside of the building (but not quite into the bar) to wait for him. He was facetiming me to let me know his eta. Midway through our conversation, the owner/manager (unsure who he was) came out to the hallway, got up in my face, super-aggressive, and demanded that I get out immediately. I was sober and in a cocktail dress, which is to say that I definitely did not look sketchy. He told me I was "disrupting the patrons." I said, with forced politeness, that I had yet to interact with anyone, and I was waiting for my sibling, and asked if perhaps he has confused me with someone else who might be causing trouble. I guess he doesn't like people waiting in the hallway? My brother (still on facetime) was laughing at first but quickly became furious that someone would treat a woman who was by herself in such an outrageous way. This guy did not relent, and I wasn't about to stick around to see if he'd follow through with his threats. I said "good night, sir," and got the FFFF out. So, I've never actually made it into the bar, and I never intend to after being berated by this lunatic. Pro tip: sometimes women don't like to sit in bars by themselves because it makes them feel nervous/unsafe. Guess what makes them feel more unsafe: when they get threatened by the owner/manager of the establishment for patiently waiting (in an area quite far away from the door and other patrons) for their guest. Avoid this nightmare. We'll spend our money elsewhere tonight and going forward. read more

I met friends here on March 20th, to celebrate a birthday. Really cool atmosphere. The owner was there tending bar. He makes some out of this world cocktails. I went to order and he asked what flavors I liked. I told him and he said he would pick the drink and if I didn't like it no problem. It was soooo good and unique. Very cool place, I will definitely go back. Ps order the cheese and meat plate, the jalapeño blackberry jam is heaven. Only bad thing is I had to share! read more

they dont mess around... cocktails are definitely a classic pour plus. its small and intimate here... the entire bar isnt much bigger than my living room. i liked it right off the bat. The server was really nice, drinks are righteous, its warm and inviting. I woukd return. The selection at the bar is really pretty good, and f your a martini or gin drinker they carry the Botanist and Hendricks Gin, the bourbon selection is pretty good too. read more

Worst aperol spritz I've ever had. Completely watered down, and no orange. I think plain water was used instead of prosecco, and with no orange slice. I ordered the same drink with a different bartender who was not Jerry (the owner) the previous time I'd been, and it was really good, and much cheaper. Jerry charged me three dollars extra the next time I went for no reason (prices for aperol spritz aren't on the menu), plus I tipped. Complete waste of money--the drink was entirely ice and water, with a quarter glass of aperol at the bottom. The service was also extremely slow. The vibe of the place is good, but I would def recommend Whiskey Exchange or Fat Bird for drinks instead. I don't support. read more

Cool speakeasy in the bottom of the LaSalle building. Only 4 beers on tap, but they were local craft! Bartender was well versed in many cocktails for our small group. Definitely eat somewhere before heading here, not much on the menu and the bar doubled as the kitchen. Only hit this place for a drink. read more

So I have been to this "establishment" a few times and I must say the best times to frequent them are on a slow off day, Sundays, etc. Apparently a Saturday evening is not a night you want to darken this door if you would like to be waited on. After setting for a good 20 minutes "sir tattoo a lot" asked if I had been waited on, knowing damn well that I hadn't with no apologies proceeded to asked "what do you want"! This on top of watching what I gather was an ineffectual owner in a worn out polo pour one of his buddies some wine and plop his backside down and drink. Great customer service. After this I decided to politely decline and said spik it. I have heard these same horror stories from others and after experiencing this I say think wisely where you land. This might play where ever these people are from but it doesn't play in this area! read more
