Out in the middle of no where. NO WHERE. Like make sure you know how to get back, we had no GPS! Thankfully, we have some snap and were able to make it back to civilization despite gawking at the beautiful view the entire time! (Folks, the drive is WORTH it!) Once we made it into the property there were quaint little buildings reminiscent of the time period, a quick stroll around the property, and once the entire party arrived, we headed inside the mountain. Our guide was well-informed and interactive. He was passionate and knowledgeable about every aspect of the tour and mining itself! Once we made it to the bottom of the shaft, we were encouraged to mine our own gold and were given a little baggie to hold our treasure! Back topside we were taught how to pan for gold (it's an extra $6 when you book - definitely worth it, if you have never panned before). And while all that was exciting, we topped off the end of the adventure hand feeding peanuts to chipmunks and squirrels! 10/10 would recommend Note on photo: (I'm 5' and only had to duck once - he is 6'5" and had to be very careful not to hit his head repeatedly. Cost/Benefit Analysis: Excellent benefit for cost! I highly recommend this tour. This immersive mine tour was highly informational and very experiential! I thoroughly enjoyed learning the history of the mine--its functions and output. Of particular value was not only the panning for gold but the actual mining for gold with a hammer and chisel. It was very interesting to learn of the comorbidity of micas, silicates and gold. I was fascinated to learn that gold follows iron. I was able to apply this knowledge immediately and follow one element to the next in the walls around me--the prognosis of gold! Rusty was the best!! Highly recommend going to this tour. The mine was super cool with a very blue vein or copper, silver, and pirite. Pictures do not do this place justice! Rusty was very knowledgeable about everything to do with mining and even gave us tips on how to pan for gold better (we had picked up panning as a hobby over the summer). A taller vehicle is recommended for the drive down to the mine from the highway but other than that it was really cool! It is not a commercialized tour which was extremely nice. read more

What a great experience. Would highly recommend for all ages. There is a bit at the end which requires some steep rock stairs, and for really little kids might be a challenge, but my daughter did great at 5. I'm extremely claustrophobic and even survived! Short and sweet: We were led by James (gosh I hope I got that right. An older gentleman who had mining experience) and he provided not just the best Gold Mine tour we did while traveling (we also did Argo and Country Boy Mine) but perhaps one of the best education tours I have ever been on. His enthusiasm was contagious and his subject mastery and interest in the topic we infectious. There are plenty of wonderful things to do in the area but PLEASE take my word for it, if this kind of thing is something that even tangentially interests you then take this tour. I'm going to justify this 2 star review by a couple of things. 1) The tour guide we had was extremely chatty about himself and not the mine, a tad condescending and a bit on the sexist side with some of his comments (boys AND girls play games nowadays). 2) The tour was quoted as 1 hour long. We spent nearly 2 hours just on the mine tour. Not a big deal unless you have a day planned out. Be a little more up front with setting correct time expectations. We didn't end up leaning as much about the mine as we wanted and panning for "gold" was a cool experience. Sorry, Hidee. read more

What a fun time! This is a very family friendly, educational, and entertaining tour of a gold mine. You should be aware the temperature of the cave in the winter is in the 40's. My family still found that hiking boots, coats, and gloves were needed because you're stopping a lot and you do get cold. The ground is uneven and awkward in spots, so hiking boots are helpful. This was our second gold mine tour and it is so much better than the popular Argo tour (Argo is sealed off and you can't see anything underground there besides a concrete wall). At Hidee, you actually get to go down into the mine, wear a necessary hard hat and use mining tools. You have the opportunity to chip rocks filled with gold bits off the walls and floor. Our guide was very informative and explained the history of mining and this location. The tour ended with panning for gold taken from the mine (not just gold flecks placed in a pan - much more realistic!). Very cool tour. Check it out if you're in the area! read more

On the day we did the reservation we had a car issue and I called the phone number asking to push our time 1 or 2 hours after 1pm. The guys who answered the phone was trying to jack the price up on us and asking for 40% extra just to reschedule our appointment and the reason is we are taking someone else spot and costing him extra trouble! I asked him if 1 pm ( the originalappointmentt ime ) is full so we are causing the loss of our spots if we reschedule, and he refused to answer and start laughing and I made sure to tell him he is just greedy and trying to trick fu*k us buy implementing a lie on us hoping it's going to work. I always try to support local businesses but not the shady business owners who are just trying any and every way to trick fu*k their customers to get more money out of their pockets!!
