We are visiting the Grand Lake area and really wanted a challenging rafting trip. Our Airbnb host suggested Mad Adventures Clear Creek. I'm so glad they did. Expert guides with over 130 years of river experience between their crew. Now on to the water. Starts off a little slow but once it gets going it is on. Several category 3 rapids followed by a bunch of 4's with awesome drops all while navigating big rocks. You end with a nice comfortable float through a neighborhood in Idaho Springs Co. We were on the water for a good hour and half, so I suggest getting the wetsuit package as the water is always 38 degrees. We had a spectacular day out in the water at Clear Creek. In town from TX visiting and we really wanted class 4 rapids we had to settle for the beginner journey. They have a strict age requirement of 14 and our 12 year old made that a challenge. Having done class 3-4 at Royal Gorge I would say this did not disappoint. It was constant and continuous adventure. I would have loved to kept going longer but like all good things they do come to an end. The 1.5 hours was mot too short either don't get me wrong. If you are scared of the cold don't cheap out--get the extra gear to make your experience better. My wife and kids did the gear. Since we were here in July in the water at noon I toughed it out. Don't vet me wrong it was cold and at times what I would have done to be warm. I feel the cold splash is a part of the experience. Sitting in the front I was also glad for a pair of sunglasses. They say this is some of the best rafting they have had in awhile. What really made this exemplary was the staff. They made you all feel like family. Zak in particular was our favorite. He gave the right balance of safety and firmness needed for a guide. He also helped my 70 year old mother in law work through her fears and continue with getting in the raft. She was reluctant as she only has one hand. Zak calmed her and gave her options. My kids also loved the bus driver Max. Not so sure they loved him ao much it was more his dog Willow. If you want a great and safe experience do it with Mad Adventures where they make you feel like family. read more

We've gone on rafting trips with 3 companies, including Mad Adventures. While the other companies were good and we had fun, Mad Adventures was the best! They spent 10-15 minutes going over rules and practicing on land. The intermediate trip was so much fun! It consisted of mostly IIIs and a few IVs - all of which were a blast! Our guide, Zach, did an excellent job and had a great personality. We interacted with 3 other employees who were also very nice and polite. Highly recommend! read more

We had a fantastic time on Mad Adventure's Clear Creek Intermediate raft trip. The trip was the perfect activity on our way up to Breckenridge from Denver. Max, our guide, was super fun, yet professional and we felt very safe in his hands. The intermediate trip was just the right level for our group, which had some first-time rafters as well as a couple of young teens in it. The rapids were exciting and the scenery was generally beautiful. Although the river did run in a small canyon next to the freeway, the traffic wasn't too noticeable most of the time and the convenience of the location made it fine. I would definitely recommend renting their wetsuit, splash guard and booties, as the water was very cold and we got splashed a lot. Overall we had a really fun afternoon and would recommend it. read more

This was my husband and I's first time rafting. I couldn't say enough great things about how all around awesome Mad Adventures was. From the very get go, the people were fantastic. We were a little nervous on what to expect, but our tour guide Ben was exactly what you would hope your raft guide would be. He made the trip so fun and educational at the same time. This was so much fun. My family and I booked the Beg/intermediate rafting trip and it was a riot! We were split into 2 rafts. My raft had Weekley as a guide and he is the best. He coached us and cheered us on the entire way! Two of us end up taking a dip and that's when he really earned his pay that day. Weekley is very knowledgeable and knows every nook and cranny of Clear Creek. A gentlemen and a scholar hands down. This was by far the most fun I've had on any rafting trip! We completed the PM half-day on June 17th, 2014. The water was still quite high from the snow melting. The trip consisted of mostly class three rapids with a few class four. Will was our guide and he was phenomenal. We went through some very intense rapids, and there was never a moment I felt unsafe. Will was the reason for this. This place blew the Red Tail Rafting trip out of the water and was essentially two hours of nonstop action. We would highly recommend this trip and would like to do it again. read more

Being from California, especially the Central Valley, our family doesn't have many opportunities to go whitewater rafting. While visiting family in Fort Collins we decided we would finally go. Since it was on short notice and there was nothing available we decided to head to Idaho Springs and raft Clear Creek. We chose Mad Adventures. They were very accommodating and even though we were beginners, they made sure that we were both prepared and properly instructed. Our river guide Dan Felts was AWESOME! He is an excellent guide and his personality put those of us who were a bit anxious at ease. Where do I start with this one. Last week we were staying in Granby with family and had two children age 13 and 11. We were planning on booking with Mad Adventures but, the 11 year old couldn't go because she was too young to do the intermediate with Mad Adventures on Clear Creek. So the ladies went with Clear Creek Rafting company. The person on the phone when we called said that the rapids were hot when we asked about conditions. We went out of Kremmling last time and it was slow going. We wanted to get some better rapids and that is why we chose Clear Creek area guides. The ladies trip rafting was 2 hours earlier than ours so, we ended up at Mad Adventures office in Dumont at 1:15 for the 2:30 trip. No one was there so we just hung out for a little bit. About 2 someone arrived and opened the shop. We walked in to check it out and the guide told us essentially to leave and go find something to do because they hadn't cleaned the restroom and needed to run the vacuum cleaner and didn't want to do it in front of us. Ok, so we drove over to Starbucks to kill some more time. We came back, signed releases, and got our gear. Well I brought my Gopro camera to attach to my helmet and got everything setup while on the bus ride. When we arrived at the launch spot and I was getting off the bus, the guide asked if anyone had a Gopro. I said yes and he told me that I couldn't use it. Really? There was nothing in the paperwork I was given which said this at any point. I was polite and took the camera off. Fortunately the other half of our party, with Clear Creek Rafting, happened to be ending their trip right where we were starting so I went over and gave the Gopro to my wife. When I got back (it only took a minute) our guide Max (I guess I should say Mad Max) was glaring at me and asked if I would get in the raft. No problem. He continued to seem grumpy for the first half of the trip. He complained about how everyone was paddling but, finally relaxed and got a little more friendly. Near the end, he said something like, I hope you were smiling as that is where they took your picture. Wow, thanks for the notice! No problem again, I was polite and we finished the trip without any additional problems. BTW the rapids were no big deal and it was actually late in the season so the water was fairly low, I wouldn't call it "hot" by any means. When we got back to the office, they told us the price of the pictures and it was $45 for a pen drive with them on it. My brother in law wanted to get them and paid for the drive. When we got back with the rest of our group that went with Clear Creek Rafting, they said what a great time they had. They even gave them a disk with all of the pictures for free. When I mentioned that they wouldn't let me use the Gopro everyone was surprised. They said I could have with Clear Creek. I was disappointed to say the least. Plus we paid for pictures and even tipped the not so friendly guide. Then that night we went to Fraser for dinner. My brother in law saw the female guide at the bar and overheard her bitching about how some customers arrived an hour early and she had to move out of her car where she was sleeping (at 1pm in the afternoon). It seems that she lives in her car and was sleeping there. These guys at this place have a lot to learn about customer service. I will not be going back there next year but, will go with Clear Creek Rafting next time. I was very disappointed with the experience with Mad River. read more

Pay attention to how you are being billed if you choose to use Mad Adventures. We were overcharged for 1 Adult in our group and they refused to refund us. We had a group of 9 Adults and 13 Children. The guide and trip were good, but pay attention to the billing process. Extremely confusing and they don't seem to care once they have got paid. Disappointed with their customer service. read more
