The room looked clean, but the AC is a little noisy. The light fixtures are old, and are a little tricky to operate. The writing desk/ table was a joke. It is very wobbly. It is so wobbly that I am having trouble typing on my laptop keyboard while writing this review. My fingers keep hitting the wrong keys, because the laptop is swaying left and right so much. When I moved my chair to another location, the chair's arm rest pulled apart. The room does contain enough electrical outlets. The place does have free Wifi, but it is a little slow. This place also come with a indoor pool (closes at 12 midnight). The showers worked fine. There was enough water pressure and the water temperature was fine. The bathroom came equipped with the industry standard Sunbeam 1500 hair dryer. A good compromise between compactness, weight and heating power. It was able to dry my 2 feet long hair within a reasonable amount of time. They also offer complimentary coffee (no decaf) in the room. Overall, I have stayed at better places. The fact that nobody noticed the problems with the table and chair is remarkable. read more

Not a bad place in the middle of nowhere. Got two rooms for $50 a night each early November 2017. It's far from luxurious. Smells of smoke and weed, but it's Nevada, so expected. The carpets are dingy, the elevators are best, the whole place needs a makeover, but if you're looking for a cheap, comfortable bed and pillows to sleep on, and not much more, this place is just right. The bed and pillows were surprisingly comfortable. The pool was great and warm (in the water. Outside, was freezing as they were doing some construction and had a massive fan blowing). The staff are friendly and helpful. You can buy some basic food items (milk, drinks, cereal) in the lobby. Was a relief to be able to get milk for the kids. There's pizza and Chinese across the street. It was quite at night even though I-80 was right behind. read more

Passble for a cheap night ($50). It was the only hotel we could find in the winter that had the pool open. Pool water is really warm and the hot tub is great. The room, hallways, and stairways were a bit smelly and the carpet was stained, but just keep your shoes on and you'll be fine. My little kids said they would stay here again. read more

This place was a great choice in Elko since it had an indoor pool that my kids enjoyed. The pool does seem worn and torn inside and at the bottom from years of wear and tear, but seemed cleanish overall. The lobby bathrooms are surprisingly up to date and really clean given that the hotel rooms were all out dated. Practically all of the furniture and stuff is worn or broken but the beds sufficed the nights stay. The bathroom shower curtain was not long enough, so the water kept spilling out. The tub would constantly overflow while showering which was kinda gross but the water pressure was pretty good. The ac was also working well in the room, so was the microwave and mini-fridge, which I very appreciated since we are traveling and sick of the road lol. Hot shower 2. Free breakfast 3. A wake-up call that's on-time I got none of those things here. But in a bit if poetic justice, I am using their slow, crappy WiFi to write this review. Makes me feel slightly better. **UPDATE Friday, Aug 11 2017** I have upped my rating to 3 stars. My critiques stand; that was my experience at the hotel and that is what it is. However, a manager sent me a private message here apologizing for my experience, and said that he would take some steps to fix what he could. That shows class, and is worth an extra star to me. The High Desert Inn has comfortable beds. The pillows are much to be desired. They are small and not supportive at all. There is poor TV reception, as well as poor to no internet reception. Poor maid service, we had to ask for clean towels for day two's shower. The worst thing was the cold shower. there won't be day 3! The front desk said they would have housekeeping check the shower. I was later told the cold shower was related to the water softener coming on. Not okay. The rooms were clean, the carpet in the halls and common areas were not. The coffee pot leaked, we spilled water every time we poured coffee. There was a refrigerator and microwave in the room. I will never stay here again, I did check out a day early. read more

We were on our way from Oakland, CA to Logan, Utah. We did not make a reservation anywhere, since we weren't sure where we were going to stop to eat and sleep. As it happened, we drove as far as Elko. This hotel is right off I80 at exit 303, across the street from the Red Lion Casino and next door to the Holiday Inn Express. It's true that this place does not have a bar, or a restaurant, or a free breakfast (no great loss there!) What it does have is very clean, spacious, comfortable rooms at a good price. The corporate rate for our King was $74. We liked it so much that we stayed there again on the return trip. This is not a luxury hotel, but it is immaculate and extremely well maintained. I can't comment on the gym or the pool and spa because we didn't use them. I did use the laundry room, which was very clean and well-maintained just like everything else. They get points for real ceramic coffee cups and glasses made of glass, not plastic. More points for a really comfortable bed and a very quiet air conditioner. More points for interior hallways--nice and quiet! Even though I80 was right outside the window, we never heard a sound. And not a slot machine in sight! Stay here, go across the street to the Red Lion if you want to drink and/or gamble, go down the street to JR's for dinner. Then come back to your quiet, comfy room and relax. I was making a road trip from Indiana to see my sister and stopped here before going home to Reno. It was dark and I was tired so it actually looked decent from the outside while in that frame of mind. This place is filthy with ground in dirt and it's unnecessary. All you have to do is regularly deep clean the place and for God's sake CHANGE the curtain sheers or wash them. The hem was literally coming out of them as well. To say they were filthy was an understatement. They can't be any more than $5 at Walmart. The halls were ridiculously filthy and smelled like weed. I contemplated just getting a refund and leaving but I figured the hassle would be even worse than the dirt so I just went to sleep and said: "forget it". Tried to check in at 11:45pm, no one around, no bell for service. Security panel for entrance from back parking lot apparently has a "slow battery" and would not accept our key cards. The rooms smell like smoke, half the lights work and the place is dirty. The only way the shower curtain doesn't touch you while showering is when you're up against the wall. This place is whack, unless you just want a sort of CHEAP place to sleep. We stopped because it was the only place that had rooms in Elko, after all the no vacancy signs all over winnemucca we pushed on to elko. I wish this place was as nice as the staff because it would have for sure got 5 stars actually the reason it didn't get 1 star is because of them. The hotel is extremely dated and the carpet is pretty nasty looking. The room was quiet and the bed was comfy although the pillows are as thin as pancakes they do give you 4 to make up for the fact that you can make a short stack with them. The bathroom had a mint colored tub that was discolored with age, it's a two handle shower valve so pray nobody turns on the cold water while you shower and wind up getting your skin melted off. It didn't seem like the cleanest bathroom but for the price I guess what can you expect for 70$ a night. Like I said the staff is awesome the hotel not so much. read more

This was the most disgusting place we have ever booked. On our way back from Reno we stopped in Elko for the night. Considering it was the week of Thanksgiving, a lot of places had started filling up. The website and lobby of this hotel looks great, clean and updated, but the rooms were the complete opposite. The rooms were outdated, dirty, stains on the carpet, sketchy elevator that dropped a foot before the doors were closed when we stepped on, ripped and stained wallpaper...terrible. I felt like I needed a shower just from being in the room for 20 minutes. We checked out shortly after, got our money back, and booked two rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn. They had amazing service there, a beautiful and clean facility and nice sized rooms. GO THERE! Don't waste your time and money on this place. read more

I would like to give this place no stars. It is way way way over priced hotel 6. It is old and needing of updating, badly. The pics on the Internet are totally not the same as the room, it's a sham ! The room was dusty,some of the lights did not work, there was stains on the furnishings and there was two entrances into the room which one looked like the door frame had been damaged /ripped off and repaired badly. Awoke to cigaret smoke, must be one of the few that still allows for that. We checked out the next day and moved to the Town Country up the street for 20 bills more a night but well worth it!!! read more

My family ended up having to stay here again last year during the 4th of July week. All the good hotels were booked solid during this time of the year. Because of a thoughtless family member,that was suppose to host us & didn't, here we are again. Luckily for us someone in management must have looked at all the reviews on yelp. We were pleasantly surprised, not only were the rooms clean, they were updated! Yes they're are still ugly old rooms here but they're on the front side of the hotel. The only thing decent about this property is the pool. When we arrived a guest warned us about becoming stuck on the elevators, the next morning I was stuck on the ground floor and the buttons would not work. One of the beds in our room had a giant dip in the mattress, the towel rack was not properly installed and fell several times, all that I can accept for the price. What I cannot accept, however, is the amounts of BLACK MOLD that is growing in the corners of the bathrooms. When I alerted the front desk they claimed they were not aware of the problem and offered a quick and quiet apology. I have felt ill since staying there , likely because I am asthmatic. I wish I could contact someone for a refund but not sure who seeing as the employees don't seem to care. I hope at the very least the BLACK MOLD issue is addressed as I noticed many children and elderly people staying there, including my own infant daughter, and would hate for someone else to become ill because of these disgusting and unsanitary conditions. read more

Stay here only if you have absolutely no other choice! However, if you're looking for a place to stay without the need for internet access, without a complimentary breakfast, without a bar or restaurant, without any tourist or guide information on the area, and without much in the way of comfort, this is the place. The sheets were clean (although I didn't use a UV light to check for certain...) and the staff is pleasant however, and it's not their fault the inn is on the low end of worthwhile... There are some good points however... there is an indoor gym with working machines, albeit they are so close to each other that you might be bumping elbows with fellow exercise enthusiasts if it were the type of place to draw in a large crowd in the first place... and there's a nice sized pool. The pool is probably the best thing about this inn, and it's a shame, because it's the best pool out of all the hotels in the area actually. So, two stars, because aside from the pool, the place is way overpriced at $150 per night. Holiday Inn Express next door, or the Red Lion Casino across the street are far more worthwhile if you can't book a room at the Hilton or Econolodge down the road. read more

After reading the reviews I was expecting a lot less, but was surprised at how nice the rooms were. The price was what you would pay at a motel 6, but the rooms were a lot nicer. We were looking for a place with a pool for the kids to use up their energy they had stored up in the 8 hr drive. I wish it it was an outdoor pool, but I can see how it would be nice in the winter. This place was reasonable and decent for our stay on our way home from Yellowstone last month. I didn't mind the spacious rooms and how they had a fridge with a microwave already for you. Most places don't have a microwave so we were surprised to see one there. lol! They also had the coffee pot for you too but we didn't really use it since I needed my Starbucks in the morning and the casino was right down the street so I went there. The staff were friendly and nice. :] We just stayed there to sleep because we were driving home anyway and just needed a place to crash. Went to our rooms where the carpet was old, disgusting, and smelly. I asked for different rooms and was promptly given new keys with a promise that they would be better. Nope. We checked out immediately, as there was no way I was letting my children stay in filth. Fantastic fitness room and pool with hot tub! Friendly staff, VERY pet-friendly! Husband and I and dog stayed here for over a week while hubby was on business in the area. The staff was super friendly and even more friendly to my dog. Also it's in walking distance to many great things - a taco joint, burger king, groceries, jcpenney, and a ranch store that will likely have ANYTHING you need. 4 out of 5 stars because A) the TV needs to be set about 6 inches higher or else it is impossible for 2 people lying in bed to both see the screen; 1 cannot see over the other one's feet no matter where you move it. And B) my iPad was stolen out of the truck in the parking lot. I know, NOT the hotel's fault (especially since we accidentally left the vehicle unlocked), but still a major bummer on the trip. So definitely guard your valuables and lock your car! All in all, we WILL stay here again because it's just a GREAT value. read more

But the lady remained calm and worked as fast as the computer would allow. Finally got our room and we were happy with the stay. Great night sleep for a looooong road trip. I had been staying in this hotel for the 3-4 times a month for the last 6 months, I liked the pool, hot tub and gym, and all for a very reasonable price, I never liked the non existent WIFI though, but I won't stay there again after my last stay, I saw a mouse go into my room so I called front desk around 6:30am and told them that I wanted a new room because a mouse went into my room and they said that they didn't had any rooms available but that somebody was going to go take care of my problem at 8am, 8am came and nobody came or called, very bad experience, won't be staying there again. read more

I'm on a road trip across country and I stopped in Elko for the night. I originally was going to go to Travelodge but right when I got off the 303 exit High Desert Inn was right there beautifully lit with a sign that states room starting at $49. How could you beat that?! I go to check in and the woman at the counter was beyond kind and actually ended up printing me another key bc I locked mine in my room. I was blessed with a very nice ground floor room around the back that has a door leading from the parking lot right to the room..and also has a door from the inside of the inn too. I really loved this bc I'm traveling with a packed car and being able to pull right up to my room was great. Also, even though the 80 is right behind me traffic noise was no concern, couldn't hear much of anything at night. The bed was a full bed, it was the cheapest rate and it was only me. The room came with working mini fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Along with flat screen tv with all your major channels and wifi that worked very well. Bathroom was roomy with shower/bath combo that was up to par. I ended up ordering dominos and they delivered right to my door. The inn also has a great pool and fitness center that anyone should take advantage of! I am very pleased with my stay and defiantly will be returning when in this area again. This was the worst place to stay ever! The hotel was dirty the carpets were filthy and we didn't even dare step in the tub for a shower, there was a dark ring around the tub of old soap scum. We checked in with dogs and told the clerk we had them but the next morning they call and wake us up at 8:00 to come down and handle card charges. So we packed up and checked out only to be told that because we had dogs on the third floor they had to charge us 250.00 because they only use the first floor for pets. Now tell me why when we check in with pets and are put on the third floor we should have to pay a fee?? Needless to say the fight was on! After two hours of fighting with them and making them call our bank and reverse the charges could we then leave this hell hole. They also were mopping the floor right in front of the desk as we and others are checking out, so we have to step aside and then risk slipping when we move forward again, who runs a business like this?? Long story short, the worst place to stay, just warning anyone who chooses to stay there (buyer be ware)! read more

This is mostly a budget hotel so adjust your expectations accordingly. The lobby area is nice as it has recently been remodeled. There is a pool, exercise room, and business center. The staff is polite and professional. The main downsides of staying here are that the rooms are dated and a bit worn from use--the entire hotel needs to be updated. The hotel is great. I love the fitness center and the pool. The room is great and it's very spacious. I've been staying here for two weeks now and my overall stay has been great! The only concern I have is the front desk employees are rude. One charged me twice for my stay and the others just have really horrible customer service! We didn't have a lot of options since we have a big dog. The minute we stepped in the place smelled like smoke. We were in a "non-smokers" room but everything in the room smelled like smoke. Had to wash the tub before giving our baby a bath since there was hair in it. Yucko! When the water turned on it smelled like smoke. The towels smelled like smoke (thankfully I brought my own). The air conditioner/heater - the air coming out smelled like smoke. Disgusting! The blankets on the bed had cigarette burns on them (again glad we brought our own) the vent had two inches of dust built up on it - so gross! I could go on & on. I know you get what you pay for but cleanliness should be a must. The night before we stayed in Reno at the la Quinta Inn - allows pets,was cheaper, cleaner, the non smokers room was really non- smoking, & included a free breakfast that our kids loved!
