12 partially fried mini pretzel bites with a gas station dispenser-type of nacho sauce for $11? What a disappointment.
    Troy H.

Keep in mind this is Elko. I've stayed here twice for 4 nights total. Price is good. First experience was better than the second. Bed was good with a mix of pillow styles offered for personal comfort, including a body pillow. This was a work trip, so having the desk right in front of the AC froze half of me. Not sure why floor towel's aren't removed from service when they are fraying so bad they become a tripping hazard. Second stay, a neighboring room had a yapping and whining dog left in the room for hours. The counter and Ruby restaurant staff tend to disappear pretty frequently with a sign "will be back in 10-15 minutes." Breakfast has to go through Ruby, and last stay I waited at the bar for 10 min to get a breakfast burrito as no one was present. When the cook returned, I placed my order, and a premade burrito was flopped on the counter from a steam pan. The food for price at Ruby is poor, and I won't make a third mistake. $1 per tiny pretzel bite? Really? Fish and chips was decent with a nice batter, but no malt vinegar. Sirloin steak special (reported by a co-worker at dinner) was tough and carrots under-cooked. The waitress seems to be poorly organized and even forgot to put in our dinner order for 15 minutes. Could be worse.

The place is a major fail. Stay at your own risk. Let's start with the fact that it has fallen down a long way since it started as a Hilton Garden Inn. They are still falsely using that name in their advertising. They advertise elevated comfort food and I have a picture of their breakfast offering for both days we stayed there. Yup, high sugar & fat bars along with OJ. There were cream cheese tubs but nothing to put it on. That's it! We took a photo of it. We passed on the burnt coffee in the lobby. One reviewer mentioned his stay was a breath of fresh air. We agree, but it was because the room window frame is sprung, the rubber seal in the frame is sticking out and the window lock does not engage. You almost cannot see out the window for the filth on it. When the A/C ran, the window whistled. Don't believe it? See the picture with your own eyes. Broken furniture in the room. Once again the picture tells the story. The shower head is so old and clogged up, all settings work the same - a meager steam of water that is more directed on the walls of the shower than the person in the shower. The beds are so worn out that they slump from their own weight and the lumps in the mattresses make for a miserable sleep. See photo of slumping mattress next to broken furniture. On neither of the two days, did housekeeping clean the room. WOW that is real classy. No wonder Hilton dumped them. There was a cleaning person we saw in the hallway the second day who said if we needed anything, just ask. We asked for set of towels. Still the trashcans were overflowing and the beds were not made or the towels laundered. Still more class. This meets the definition of a dump, but it has thick makeup to hide it.

Stayed here overnight while driving through on a trip. The lobby, front desk area and restaurant are all very inviting. It's got a modernized feel and is welcoming and bright. The gal who checked us in was helpful and quick. Our room wasn't fancy but it was cozy and clean, just what we needed. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were fluffy, maybe even too fluffy for me! The bathroom needs some work as the tile on the ground was wobbly and cracking. Amenities - the pool and fitness was open 24/7 which is cool and something you don't see in hotels often. They have a complimentary breakfast where I had the biggest burrito and the kids had pancakes. Breakfast started at 6 which is nice as we were getting an early start. I'd totally recommend this stop to anyone looking for a nice quiet cozy night.

So on one of the busiest weeks of the year, I was looking for a replacement six-night stay with two beds in a room, breakfast (ideally) and clean, safe environment. I found it and more at TownePlace Suites, thanks to host Douglas who searched me out a room that would work, hunted down my old Marriott membership number, and reserved the space 'til I could cancel my existing reservation and get myself across town. Though the price point initially set me back on my heels, he won me over with his promise of breakfast, dinners (this week special for Cowboy Poetry Gathering), and a functioning Jacuzzi. (What can I say? It's a long drive out here!) Upon arrival, I was warmly greeted by James and another staff member who gave me the rundown. I asked if I could bring my own food down for breakfast "since I have food issues" and James walked me over to the breakfast nook to show off the GLUTEN-FREE and DAIRY-FREE options that are there on the regular, from rolls and muffins to soymilk within arm's reach. In my room, I found a kitchenette complete with clean, cool fridge/freezer, a sink, microwave, dishwasher, dishware and utensils and enough pots and pans to cook on the two burner built-in hotplate/electric stove top. There were two clean, nicely made beds, a clean bathroom, table large enough for four people, and two easy chairs, and more. SOLD! Yes, pricier than others. Yes, in Elko you get what you pay for.

Our server was extremely kind and explained the menu, process, and local favorites The Pico Punch had a touch of Vicks 44, but that's exactly what it should taste like. The quantities are huge. Cabbage soup broth was delicious. Italian bread would be better if warmed, but still good. The salad was robustly tossed and the dressing had a nice touch of garlic. The steak sandwich was tender and had an excellent marinade/flavor. Fries: very greasy and not their finest moment. NOT anymore! You can read my reviews of "Red Lion" if it's still available, and surely you're reading this updated review for Maverick. WHAT a turn around. First off, I was offered a comp weekend because of my experience a few years back. That particular GM wasn't there, but I called to see if they were still honor a comp room for a night, and despite there being a couple years in between my last visit, they still honored that promise. That spoke volumes. My room, was perfect, exactly what I'm used to with this place. Didn't eat at Aspen this time, just some gambling and cocktails. We started off in the back bar, and I can't remember the nice lady's name, but she was on point. WE gambled and drank a bit, then went and gambled a little bit more, and actually won all of our money back, so we decided to sit in the front bar and just pay for drinks so I didn't give the house back the money hahaha Char (pronounced like 'Cher', not Char-Broil hahaha) was our bartender in the front bar. She actually helped us on the floor also before we sat to drink. It was the day after christmas, and their staff was run wire thin, they were covering the floor and bartending, busting their butts. I've never had an issue with service here, ever. It was cold outside, even snowed overnight. Not a single issue with the AC, despite others complaints. Thank you guys again, for honoring your promise from years past. Yet I've stayed at other hotel casinos before and usually if you stay at the hotel they give you a ticket for free breakfast at the casino diners. Maverick does not do that... so be prepared to pay for breakfast in the morning. The other disappointing thing is the outdoor pool. I will forever be partial to hotels that have indoor pools that are open year round. Give me a hot tub, please. Otherwise the rooms are super nice and clean. The showers are hot. The WiFi is free. And our room at least had a working AC and heater unit. I also think it's kind of cool that the rooms have a little balcony that actually opens. The rooms also have a mini fridge and a microwave and a Kcup coffee machine, which are all very nice to have. At the end of the day, we took these rooms because they were so cheap... but the no breakfast really is the biggest bummer.

Our stomachs growled so we both agreed to grab a table for an unplanned breakfast. We hit the jackpot with our waitress Mary, very nice lady. She even surprised us with some unexpected Spanish speaking; I was glad I didn't have to translate for my friend this time. We ordered a $26 Steak-n-eggs plate each which consisted of a portion of hard chewy steak, dry hash browns that felt and tasted like catholic first-communion wafers, 2 eggs and some oddly delicious pancakes (their texture was firmer compared to the conventional, which I enjoyed very much). Mary came to us right after we took our first bite checking if everything was alright. Up to where we were at the moment, we said yes and kept eating. It wasn't until later down the process that we realized we were not enjoying the plate nearly at all. Mary's great service and personality does not match the quality of food served in this restaurant. I really want to go see her again, but I sincerely don't want to eat the food served here. This first sweet and sour experience is now engraved in me, but one experience out of thousands does not define the place, so I suggest you give this place a chance.
