Carly is an amazing trainer... to be clear, Carly trains the humans and the dogs react to what the humans have learned. Okay, here is my story. My wife and I decided to get a new Labrador puppy. We found a beautiful little pup, Izzy, from a good line of hunters. As time went by it became apparent that Izzy was a VERY high-drive dog! Izzy had got an ear infection and I took her to the vet. She was just 6 months old and it took three of us to restrain her so that the vet to look into her ear and medicate her. When the ordeal was over the vet handed me a card and said "you need this trainer". It was Carly's card at High Drive Dogs. Coincidently later that week, a friend of mine that was a member of the local hunter-retriever club, stopped by the house. Izzy was wound up tighter than a rubber band. Getting her to calm down was next to impossible. When our visit was over, he handed me a card and said "you need this trainer." Again it was Carly's card. Izzy and I have completed the foundations class and as I take her on walks we often get compliments like "your dog is so well-behaved. Did you train her?" Ultimately my point is, Carly took what I thought was an impossible situation and turned it around. She is a fantastic trainer. Finally, there is a side to Carly that I think goes unnoticed and that is her love for dogs. She rescues unruly dogs that were uncontrollable by their owners and teaches them and finds them homes. I've heard her say, "you can cuddle your dog, but don't coddle your dog. It's people not taking the responsibility to train their dog that gets so many dogs put down." She is an amazing individual. I'm giving her 5 stars.

Now at 9 months old, after 6 lessons and weeks of practice, practice, practice, he is a different dog. I never thought there could be such a difference in a dog in such a short time. Jesse was afraid of so much. He had to learn how to go up and down stairs and be comfortable riding in a car. Every noise on a walk startled him -- birds, cars, loud noises, other dogs, people, everything. Walking with him was a horrible experience. He pulled and sniffed constantly, lunged at people and other dogs. Nothing I did was helping because I had no idea of what to do. He wasn't much better in the house. He had no boundaries. He would not stay in one place for any length of time. He couldn't be in the backyard because he constantly ate the mulch and chewed holes in the grass. Thank goodness I found Jack! All of that has changed - in 3 months! Because of what Jack has taught me, I now am able to successfully communicate with my dog and help him gain the confidence he needs to be his best self. His energy has mellowed since he no longer has the need to take control of everyone and everything. His walks are enjoyable - even off leash. Yes, Jesse can be off leash and we hike the trails in Boulder. He comes when called and he will walk beside me with no leash if I ask him to. It's really unbelievable. There are so many things I could tell you about my amazing dog and what he can do. But you can experience it yourself if any of this sounds familiar. If you are willing to put in the time to work with you dog and do what Jack or Alex tells you, I have every reason to believe you will have great results. My daughter worked with Alex and followed her advice. She was certain her dog would never stop chasing rabbits and squirrels or be trusted off leash as well as numerous other problems. After 3 months, she too has had amazing results and now a well-behaved dog. We hike together -- with our dogs off leash. I continue to use the foundation, techniques, and education Jack provided as I continue training with Jesse. There is always room for improvement and new things for both of us to learn. I really could not have managed Jesse without Jack's help. I will always be grateful.

So, we just stopped taking her. And, after a very bad reaction to a dog on our walk, where she redirected on me, I would get scared any time we saw a dog when we were out walking and did my best to just avoid dogs altogether. We finally decided we couldn't fix Stella on our own and we decided to take her to Black Paw Dog Training. The training we ALL received has changed our lives! Since her graduation, we have enjoyed Saturday pack walks with other graduates and Stella has done great, walking side by side with other dogs, passing dogs out on the trail and staying in a perfect heel. I never thought it could be possible. She plays ball in a neighborhood park and has perfect recall. And our walks and ball playing in the neighborhood are totally different. She can pass dogs on the trail and just walk on by without losing her mind. And taking her with us to stores is now a fun outing. No more whining. No more pulling. Just a well-behaved pup. Bernadette and Cecilia have opened up a whole new world for us that we never thought was possible. We cannot thank Black Paw Dog Training or recommend them highly enough.

I should have asked for my money back. She often rushed through things. She didn't have an awareness of how to teach human adults, by saying something , show something, say it again in a different way, show it again slowly. She said it once, showed it quickly then expected us to do it. She would show something, then have us go do it while she talked with her friends she brought in. She didn't pay attention to her students. She only offered help when I was struggling if I asked for her help, she didn't notice when people were struggling. She was stern and not approachable. She said she had lots of experience training. Perhaps that was true but she needs to work on people skills to be a group dog trainer. This intro class was designed to rush us through a program of a bunch of different things every time so that maybe we felt we learned a lot and got our moneys worth, rather than make sure we had important things down really well. The instructor said that after we finished the class we could come in for open play. I called and left a message about this twice but no one called me back. The place was freezing cold in the winter and smelly. I've heard other people like this place, but I won't go back. I also read the review about a woman abusing a dog here and people being rude. I learned from a past PetSmart groomer that the dogs spend most of their times in cages, especially the scared ones. Whenever my dog got anxious or reactive, she was put in a cage. This is completely unfair because she is anxious- that doesn't mean she shouldn't get the same care as "typical" dogs. My dog would leave exhausted and seemingly depressed the rest of the day after I picked her up. Lastly, for all the appointments she had there, they were charging me with a "special needs care fee" without telling me or allowing me to see the receipt. This was an extra $15 or $20 that I did not know about. The groomer (a non-licensed veterinary professional) told me my dog needs stronger medication if she's going to keep coming there. My dog now does mobile grooming where she is never in a cage, is treated normally and leaves in a good mood. I do not recommend this grooming place at all. If you love your dog, find someplace else.
