The boat tour of the south portion of Deep Creek Lake was awesome ! Ray, our guide was extremely knowledgeable of DCL, Garrett county and all of the history related to the area. Today my family of 5 (husband, me, and 3 young girls) went on a one hour guided tour of Deep Creek Lake. Evan was our guide/captain and he made it so memorable. My husband and I have been to DCL many many times, but Evan's knowledge and friendly personality made it a very new, informative, and enjoyable experience. Our girls have never been on the lake and they each got to drive the boat!!! Evan's pride, passion, and love for DCL was so special for this trip as we learned so much. He immediately asked all the guests if we minded if our one hour tour lasted a bit longer. What a treat! These days you pay so much for something and get the minimum. He went above and beyond. I would just recommend that the tour guide talk more about the history of the lake and the area (such as the CIA stories, mysterious goings-on) than about the businesses on the lakeshore. Had a great experience doing a boat tour with High Mountain Sports. Here for a long weekend, we were on the fence about renting a boat vs just doing a tour. We ended up going with the latter and scheduled a tour for five adults with them. Prices are very reasonable, for the 5 of us it was much cheaper than renting a boat (at least for the other places we were looking at). There is parking behind the building so use that if nothing is available up front. Staff was very friendly. It was a very stress-free experience. Our guide was great and full of lots of information. We booked the tour for an hour and it ended up being closer to 90 minutes. Would definitely recommend using them for a tour. read more

The pontoon boat tour was fantastic. Our tour guide told our crew fun stories about the area, not just the standard tourist history pitch. I wanted to go again as soon as our tour ended. Highly recommend. My staff experience inside the store was not positive... I arrived 10 mins before the tour departure time and was told repeatedly I was late and the rest of the guests had arrived on time. Late or early, being shamed by a staff member (don't want to embarrass her by using her name) in front of the store patrons and other staff was very uncomfortable. I will look for other boating options on future trips. read more

The store is small but very well curated with its selection. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and pricing is competitive with online shopping. Parking is easy. They were the only outfitter in the Deep Creek Lake area we could find who could rent us one or more tandem kayaks, the same day or even within 48 hours. For best selection of boat rentals, arrive when they open at 9am. For the other outfitters you need to rent well in advance, other wise the only options left are 1 or 2 single kayaks or 1 or 2 paddleboards. It fairly good Covid wise as they require you to wear a mask to enter and all the staff are wearing masks. read more

Kayak rental here couldn't have been any easier. Basically, we set up the rental at the HMS counter (took less than 5 minutes), then walked across the street, grabbed our life jackets, and jumped into the kayak. Less than 10 minutes from walking in the door to being on the water. The guys working were friendly and knowledgeable about the area and suggested several interesting things along the way before we headed out, including tips for being noticed by the many boats, pontoons, and JetSkis flying around the lake. Bottom line: check this place out if you want to go a-paddling. They have a lot of boats so they are less likely to be sold out, and the guys are super friendly. Enjoy! read more

Staff works hard to get a crowded shop their rentals. But BE WARNED, no refunds are given for unused days, so if you get injured or mistakenly say you're leaving Saturday (because you are) but returning the equipment Friday, you WILL NOT BE ISSUED a refund for the unused portion; only a voucher will be issued for a rental in the same season. Just made that expensive mistake and was disappointed in the management response/policy. read more

I've visited high mountain sports this past weekend to rent a pair of skis boots poles and helmet for my sons friend who is going skiing with us for the day. I paid for all of the equipment and started carrying it out to my car while my sons friend gathered the rest of the equipment and came out behind me. As we were riding the lift up on the first run of the day, I noticed my sons friend was not wearing a helmet. When I asked him where his helmet was, he replied they didn't give me one. At this point we would have lost about an hour of skiing if we returned to get the helmet. When we returned the equipment at the end of the day. I let them know that we had not received the helmet we rented. The employee said that happens sometimes when it gets busy. I asked if they we're going to refund me the $12.00 I paid to rent the helmet, and he said he couldn't because all sales are final. What a crock of crap. Now the $12.00 isn't why I'm writing this poor review. The issue is the lack of customer service, which is becoming the norm in todays world. For $12.00, they lost any future business from me and all my family and friends. Way too many other options for ski rentals, I will never visit that store again. Hopefully those that read this will take it in consideration which choosing where they shop. read more

Great place to rent kayaks from! Staff were helpful and friendly. We were in the water and paddling away less than 15 minutes after walking into the store. Additionally, the equipment we used was clean and in GREAT condition--I don't take this for granted since I've rented kayaks/canoes on numerous vacations elsewhere before in poor shape (paddles that looked like an alligator took a bite out of them, canoes that are beat up and leak, and most commonly--lifevests that smell so funky that you hate wearing them). I appreciate that they take pride in their gear; these were the best rental life-vests I've worn! Additionally, the owner informed us that the Ride Across America (RAAM) bicycling race was going through Deep Creek the week we were here on vacation in June. Rented a tube and skis for 2 days on Deep Creek Lake. No issues with the equipment's function. They allowed for us to change skis throughout the day based on the size of the skier with no charge. They let us decide, on the fly, how long we wanted to use the equipment (I asked first). Lastly, they were exactly half the price of Bill's Outdoor. The only downside of the rental was that the line is not included with the skis. They did give us a discount, though, and it was still way cheaper than the competition. The staff was friendly and accommodating, even giving me advice on where in the area to go mountain biking. Definitely use these guys. read more

AVOID! AVOID! We rented over $600 worth of equipment for our week long vacation, including two SUP's. When on the lake, one of the SUP paddles SANK...and quickly!! I returned to the store to discuss and none of the employees had ever heard of that happening. Nonetheless, I agreed to pay for the paddle and so they CHARGED ME RETAIL PRICE for a new paddle, then proceeded to give me another rental to finish out our vacation. When we realized the original paddle had been missing foam on the handle (determined from pictures) I went back to discuss with the manager/owner. He wasn't in, but assoc said he would have Brian (mgr) call me. Still waiting for that call. MGR CAN'T EVEN BOTHER TO CALL ME BACK. I feel I was given defective equipment and then made to pay for it when it failed. NOT COOL. We come to DCL 3-4 times per year and will take our business elsewhere! read more

This is the first time I've rated anything. But because of the TOTALLY RUDE service we got from the person we were told was the owner I want to WARN EVERYONE to stay away from this establishment. If I could rate it NO STARS I would. There was a group of us that rented ski equipment and of course we had an issue with my wife's. We felt it was a defective right ski boot but the owner disagreed. OK, you can stand there and argue THAT point all day. But the REAL issue was when I asked for a refund, his comment was we don't give refunds. SO BE AWARE of THAT. As a group we had spent a lot more than the $30.00 I was asking for. When I explained that if you receive a below average review on line, it could cost a lot more than my refund amount if potential customers take this to heart and rent elsewhere. His smug comment was, "no it won't and I don't care". NICE WAY TO TREAT A CUSTOMER!!! When I informed him that because of the defective equipment and that I paid with a credit card I would stop payment, his response was "I don't care the Lawyers can fight that out." SO HUGE WARNING do not rent from HIGH MOUNTAIN SPORTS, just drive past and rent on site at the ski resort where both the equipment and the service were excellent. read more
