First off, we called months ahead to make sure the boat we were getting could fit two people on a tube. We get to the establishment and we are told we can only fit one person. When we got the boat, we were told to arrive 30 minutes earlier than our boating time, and when we were arrived the establishment was closed and we had to wait outside for 30 mins before they openeded. once we were able to get inside and sign our paper work, they STILL DIDNT GET OUT OUR BOAT ON THE WATER UNTIL 10:15 AM. OUR BOATING TIME WAS 9AM. We paid full price. When we came back with the boat (an hour late like they gave us the boat an hour late) the staff was INCREDIBLEY rude. The one staff tried to run us over with the tractor and didn't apolagize when we all went running out of the way. Spend your money somewhere else. HORRIBLE establishment. Would NEVER EVER give this place my money again. read more

terrible company. boat was late getting into water. also not the boat I reserved on line. once my family boarded the boat the crew noticed a bolt missing in the overhead tow bar. the non English speaking 20 years old mechanic tried to put the bolt in while family was on board and the tower collapsed on my wife's head. resulting in a concussion that ruined our Fourth of July weekend. the manager was extremely rude and empathetic. never apologized just said we can get you another boat or you can leave. I've rented boats on Deepcreek multiple times and always great experienc. first time I've used this company and certainly the last. read more

RENTERS BEWARE!!! Greedy, dishonest, and hurting good, hard-working Americans. We rented a boat here for 4 hours and had no problems on the water. However, when we returned the boat they claimed we damaged the propeller and charged us an extra $300. Reading other reviews about this place, this seems to be a common occurrence. I'm sorry I didn't take the time to read the reviews beforehand. Establishments like this just make me so upset and I will also be filing a complaint on the Better Business Bureau. Had a fun time on the boat no issues but when it came time to take the boat back was charged for something that was a pre existing damage. Before getting on the boat they told us to stay away from the boat for inspections and said that they would take pics and sent it to my email which they never did. I wish I had taken the time to take pics to the boat to prove the pre existing damage. Fund time on the water but ended up paying twice as much for half the time. read more

We rented a pontoon on our vacation at deep creek. It was an amazing experience and so much fun. A couple of things I would point out 1) your rental starts from 9-5 but they only open at 9, which means you lose time depending on how many people are there ahead of you. BEWARE!!! These guys are LEGIT rip off artists. They run a scam on photos and propellers and "insurance". If they get you, ask for the "damaged" propeller. If you are paying for it thru their games, you should at least get to keep it and resell it. They are going to reuse/resell it anyway(only adding to the scam). Also, the propeller they scam you to replace retails for about 100 less than the 300 they charge you, again only adding to the scam. Was a fun day, until this BS. This company is known for scamming customers out of hundreds and thousands for damage that they claim customers have caused. The ruse is that they take so-called "before" photos of things like the propeller that customers cannot check. Then when customers come back they show them a supposed "after" picture with damage. The customers are never shown the damage in person. The pictures can be of anything, from any time or boat. This has been happening with this boat rental place for years, evidenced by the numerous complaints and negative reviews out there. Just this week they pulled it on us. They have a bunch of teenage girls working there who they train to pull the stunt. They just blatantly tell you that you owe them X amount of money and then they pull out the "you signed the contract" line to get you to pay. We 100% didn't hit anything and stayed in the middle of the lake the whole time. If you don't want to get scammed by this place, stay away! read more

PLEASE READ!! BOAT SCAMMERS!! This boat rental place has pre-taken photos that they will swap upon checkout to say that you damaged their propellor and auto charge your credit card $300. Their "insurance" will not cover this charge. Our literal grandfather was driving, so we were not driving the boat at any top speeds or wildly. We did not hit anything, we did not go into shallow waters, and we filled up the tank before returning. They are scamming! I would rate 0 if I could!!! Very bad service twice already. Last year, we rent a boat. Right after we left their dock, the water came from the back of boat, we were feeling the boat is going to sink. We returned to the dock and they told us it's fine. After a few hours driving, the boat was sinking, the right side of it went under water, we lost the control. Most of us don't know how to swim, it's very dangerous. Luckily the boat finally got back to normal, but our baggages are flowed away. When we returned the boat, they said we broke the side of the boat, and they were trying to charge us $20,000 for fixing it. The boat still runs well, just fixing the side of it, they wanted to charge $20,000.!What about our safety! We found the issue at very beginning, they ignored it and put our life at risk! I have the video and I put the screenshots, as you can see, the lake surface was very smooth, but the water keeps coming from the back. Their boat was in very bad condition, and what they want is just let you drive it and charge you money for whatever happens there. And this year, my friend rented a boat from them again, same thing happened. They said they took all pictures of the boat before we start, but didn't let us check everything, how could we see the parts under water. After a day's driving, everything is fine, we didn't notice any broken or damage of this boat. But they said one panel of the propeller was bent, they need to replace it with a new one. We never drove to shallow area, it won't be possible to break the propeller. They insisted they have the pictures before and after, but they don't want to show us what time they took the picture. And they had very bad attitude to us. They keep saying we will charge $600 from your credit card anyway. I don't know if this price is reasonable. But this minor issue won't affect driving, how could I know if the propeller was broken before we got the boat. And in this way they use it to charge every customer who rent this boat? If you check other one star review you will found a lot of overcharges experiences. This company is not make earning from renting, they are make earning from fixing and replacing parts their customs "broken"! How brilliant they are! They try to slap on charges at the end for damages they claim you did. They will show you photos they claim they took before you took the boat out. However these photos are not taken with you there. So unless you personally take photos at the beginning, there's no telling what they know about and are going to try to charge you for. Also the damage waiver is a complete scam. I paid for it thinking that it would cover any small damage they may try to argue about. Wrong. I was told the damage waiver does not cover damages. What??? Rent from other boat rental companies in deep creek. Never had an issue with the others and I won't be going back to Scam Life Rentals. Makes sense why all the others were sold out but not lake life. BUYER BEWARE: NO RAINCHECKS NO MATTER WHAT, BUT THEY DON'T TELL YOU UNTIL AFTER YOU COMMIT the following policy is not posted on their website's terms and conditions, but will be provided in the fine print of your confirmation email after you give your credit card info and commit to a reservation: "We do not offer rainchecks or other accommodations for inclement weather or customer's change of plans, however cancellations or changes may be made up to 14 days prior to the original reservation date without penalty. Rescheduled reservations cannot be cancelled. If you cancel within the two week period of an original reservation or do not keep a rescheduled reservation, you are responsible for the full rental amount payable to Deep Creek Marina. We apologize, there are no refunds for early returns." Lake Life's failure to mention their "no raincheck" policy prior to confirming a reservation and their manager's tone toward us over the phone when we enquired about rescheduling was so off-putting that there is no way we are going back there. It is poor business ethics (or perhaps fraud) to apply an additional condition to an agreement after the agreement is made, but the manager we spoke to didn't seem to care at all once she had our money. Here is a more detailed account: We made a reservation for a family outing 14 days ahead of time, and monitored the weather. When it looked like it would rain, I called and spoke to an associate who said they could work with us and to call back closer to the reservation day. On the morning of our reservation we saw a forecast for wind, rain, and low temperatures. We had two preschoolers and two senior citizens in our group and were concerned about the safety of proceeding. I called to explain the situation and enquire about rescheduling to the following day. The manager's response was a very cold, boilerplate "per our policy" type of speech that sounded well-rehearsed. She told me that they can't control the weather and can't make exceptions because they would lose money- even through we could see that the same boat was available the following day. Frankly it is patronizing to say that. Of course you can't control the weather, but you can control when and how you communicate your policy to your client, and how it is implemented. They have a massive fleet and I'm skeptical that our request would have any impact on their profits. It seems more that they have an aggressive business model and are willing to sacrifice good will for cash. We realized that we were on the hook for an $850 commitment so we went out when the weather forecast indicated that the chance of rain had cleared. Not long after we were out on the water another rainstorm hit. It was cold and windy and everyone got soaked. We weren't able to stay out on the water for long. Renting from Lake Life was a lot of work, stressful, and left us feeling swindled. Once they have your money don't expect them to lift a finger to help you. read more

Today, 9/5, we picked up our rental for our pontoon boot. Check-out and check-in were quick. The employees are very nice. We'd definitely rent from them again. Special note: their parking is about 2 blocks away, but it's a very easy walk. You can leave your coolers, vests, and any belongings in their office when you leave to park. read more

I have rented from this company before and did so again recently. Upon return, they try to overcharge and make up overstated damage claims. You have to argue but they charge a high security deposit so unless your prepared to fight with your credit card company they have a good scam going. Their damage waiver is another financial scam. They still try to charge you for minor scratches underneath the boat. BE CAREFUL. They seem to make a profit from doing this as I now see on several reviews. SCAM!! Boaters beware!! DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR BUSINESS. Please read all of the reviews of tourists coming to DCL and becoming a victim to Lakelife Boat Rental's "protection plan/propeller damage" scam. Lakelife Boat Rentals located on 1899 Deep Creek Dr, McHenry MD will supposedly take a picture of your propeller/pontoon (we never saw this picture) and when you return it, they show you a picture of a scratched propeller and charge another $150 on top of the supposed protection plan (which was $150) that you already paid for. We were told the cost would've been $300 had we not insured it. The last time I checked, $150 (protection plan) + $150 (cost of supposed damage to propeller)=$300. When I called Lakelife to investigate this mysterious charge and asked for the supervisor, I was put on hold for one. And then after a few minutes, I was informed that there is no supervisor or manager in the store by Taylor because as she puts it, "we run the store really well". This would be laughable at any other time except this is no laughing matter. So PLEASE BE AWARE & INFORMED. As a reader of reviews, I am kicking myself for not being informed and rushing to rent from this Mickey Mouse operation because our original place (where we have been renting for the past 4 yrs) was out of the faster pontoons. I would give this company a zero or negative but it makes you enter one star. I have rented from this company for years. The quality of the boats has always been great and the staff very professional. The owner, however, is arrogant and unprofessional. He just voided our contract for using a tube that was not his rental. They don't rent any floats except single tubes. Beware - their contract clearly authorizes his right to void the contract but he attitude and behavior was so rude and childish. He spoke to me for 45 seconds, lied about having a video of me doing something I did not do and then walked away while I was speaking. He left his manager Jordan to handle the situation - which she did as professional as you can when your boss is an immature, dishonest and unprofessional person. Note that this company has been declining for years. I heard rumors of them overcharging for minimal damages to film they put on boats and other minor problems. I am done recommending them and sending business to this company. It's a shame that his unprofessional behavior ended a 25 year business relationship. More important, I would recommend anyone using this company BEWARE and consider other alternatives. They will rip you off, if you have any problems or not, and shamelessly the owner is the main problem. read more

I am going to preface this review by saying that I did in fact read all of the reviews (mostly very negative) before renting and was a little weary. You know the saying "a few bad apples ruin the bunch" well the negative reviews I read and my experience were totally different. From start to finish it was a great experience. The girls that checked us in were very experienced and the customer service was fantastic. The boat we rented was practically brand new. It was beautiful and Matt was great. We had a 4 day rental that was delayed due to private dock issues and the employees were extremely helpful. Kendal provided us with clean directions and even some extra time on the boat to make up for our loss of 2 rental days, which we really appreciated. The Deep Creek area is beautiful; if you're sitting at home planning a vacation, this is a gorgeous, secluded spot to get away from the turmoil of your everyday grind. The local people (excluding Deep Creek Marina) are friendly, helpful and exceptionally welcoming to families. Everyone wants to chat and no one is too busy to lend a hand. One exception, however, is the Deep Creek Marina. This rental company only exists to steal from you and ruin your day... To say the owner/ manager of Deep Creek Marina Boat Rentals is an ethical businessperson would be like staying the movie "Deliverance" amicably reflects rural culture. This business and the manager subsist only on the ability to make an ignorant tourist 'squeal like a pig' ...or more simply put, be prepared to be screwed one way or another once you get out of the boat. While you wait for an unskilled 16-year-old to hand you paperwork, be sure to read the big sign that lists probable damages you will be blamed for, regardless of whether you actually caused the damage or not. You're not getting the $250 deposit back... and there's a very heavy chance you'll be threatened with a lawsuit upon returning the boat. You will ALSO have to refuel their boat at THEIR overpriced gas pump before docking. Don't bother asking the dock boys for help with this... they will respond with a snide "that's not my job, we don't have to help you" ...Really? WTF?? If you are a glutton for punishment, by all means give DCM $250 of your vacation money for an overpriced ride in a nautical rust bucket. Be prepared for additional $500 charge in "damages", even if THEIR dock boy lists the parts as ALREADY DAMAGED. (Seriously, was ALREADY ON THE RENTAL AGREEMENT SHEET) When you add in the cost of fuel, your 2-hour joyride will cost you somewhere on the order of $800. I would like to encourage you to click the "9 other reviews that are not currently recommended tab". If Yelp had made these visible, our Sunday would have been infinitely better. We rented two pontoon boats and tubes from them for a man's weekend and were completely shocked with the disregard for any customer service. We had reservations for the boats and we did arrive a little later than when we had scheduled but when we got there it there were no boats ready and with the poor communication between staff; they put two speed boats in the water, we were delayed even more. The staff was more interested in hanging out; as Jennifer stated they are all young summer help. Our main delay on the dock was that we were never given a clipboard as stated by our help on the shore it was company policy to have a clipboard. No one ever gave nor mentioned to us to bring our clipboard to the dock and when we went back inside to get it the staff stated "We wondered when you were going to come back for those." The boats were nice and we enjoyed our time on the lake. If it wasn't for Bill's not taking reservations we would have never tried this place being more expensive. Save your time and money, go to Bill's. And... someone get these kids some walkie-talkies! read more

Fraudulent business practices! These people FLAT OUT LIED TO US. We rented a jet ski, were told that it was $250 as a security deposit for any damages. Unfortunately, we had a small amount of damage but found out the hard way that the security deposit was not the total liability for damages. We have now been charged a $1,000 and had to deal with an difficult individual who flat out didn't care and didn't try to help or share any costs. I'm assuming that he will end up with twice the money after he submits this to his insurance as well. Zero sharing of costs or ownership of the vehicle itself by the owner. Any "training" that was given prior to riding was flat out a joke (we were even told to "cheat" on the exam). They also charged the security deposit when they shouldn't have. Bottom line - don't go to Deep Creek Marina. Contracts don't mean anything to them. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. They will load up the charges on you after your trip for 'damages'. If you do decide to rent a boat from this place, have the manager do a THOROUGH inspection of the boat WITH YOU prior to leaving the dock. Record every inch of the boat, use multiple cameras and point out ANY and ALL dents, dings, scratches and anything that doesn't look brand new. I CANNOT stress this enough. Seriously, make management aware of EVERY single little dent before leaving or you will be charged for a replacement. Ask a staff member to turn the boat around so you can inspect the side of it that is away from the dock -- trust me on this, because when we returned, all of the 'damages' were magically on that side of the boat -- the side we couldn't inspect on the dock. Some buddies and I rented a pontoon boat and an inner-tube for some fun on the lake. We had a great time on the lake but upon returning we started noticing how difficult check-out was going to be starting at the refueling dock just up the shore from the put-in. We obviously have no problems paying for fuel we consumed while driving the boat, but it helps if the staff were able to tell us how much we had to fill. For example, I believe they said you have to refill what you used or 3/4 of the full tank. The only catch is that the fuel gauge isn't that accurate and nobody on the fueling dock was able to tell us the capacity of the tanks. They do this so you have no choice but to fill it all the way up, which will run you over $150. Amazing that the staff there can tell you the price of every piece of aluminum on the boat but cannot tell you the fuel capacity. After refueling we returned the boat. Some guy named Frank came out to do a final inspection. He claimed the damages to the side of the float would require a full replacement of one of the floats -- over $6,000. We argued with the guy for about an hour and a half before he called the police on us. I nearly ended up in a fist fight with this guy, I swear. We had no choice but to comply with their BS damages claim and had to pool credit cards until we were able to pay off the damages, $6,300 in all. I really ruined the weekend for us and I doubt we will ever go back to Deep Creek Maryland again. Yes, one business has ruined the entire town for us all. read more
