Very grateful to Jay and all of of Central Garage for coming out in the rain on Father's Day weekend when the Horse Show was also in town to tow my Subaru. They went to a lot of trouble getting the right replacement part and performed an expert repair at a fair price. Thank you so much. Highly recommend.

So,please don't panic if you see just their van show up! They also deliver cutomer's cars back to their houses at night after they work til 9pm in the shop. They work from 8am to 9pm M-F & pump gas til at least 11pm or 12am & they work on cars on Sat from 8am til Noon & then Jay's back the next morning at 7am,he doesn't even get 6hrs of sleep a night. On Sat after they work on cars they take the afternoon & a lot of times the night to clean the shop. The floors have to be swept, then cleaned down with a hose & in the Winter months the drains get clogged w/all the sand & they have to clean them out & if it's below zero they might still be starting cars & then Sun they are open for gas, tire repairs, jumpstarts, possibly fixing a visitor's car or God forbid they end up going to a car accident which can happen easily on our roads & both Jerry & Jay are members of the volunteer Fire Dept & get called out to a car accident w/them or by the State Police or by AAA. Jay & Jerry do their best to hire help, only a lot of people don't wanna work anymore or can't stand the hours they are wanted to work or they expect the weekend off, people don't realize how hard Jerry has worked the past 65yrs & how hard Jay has worked the past almost 40yrs.Jerry started this business on his own nobody handed it to him & Jay & Missi both worked at the garage since they were 10yrs old & Missi had several surgeries from her lawnmower accident at age 5 & was seriously hurt then & then she & Jay were in a terrible car accident in the tow truck & they were both hurt pretty bad.Missi stayed as long as she could, only after 2 more injuries one to her back & one to her good ankle she's no longer able to work, she ended up w/some herniated discs after she broke her back in 4 places in that tow truck accident & then severed the tendons in her good ankle & was made to wait 8 months before the doctor would do an MRI & her ankle hurts her constantly after 8 months of walking in enormous pain & still has pain in that ankle, foot, her bad leg from the lawnmower accident & losing her left hand as well. She stops in on occaision to see how things are & she's still dealing w/the unexpected passing of her fiance Reggie Way I who could be seen helping Joel out on a car or going on a tow call for Jay after he worked the day at Harlows running heavy equipment, or taking a vehicle to Albany, P-burgh, SL or wherever Jay or Jerry needed him to go.She's still dealing w/his loss after 3 1/2yrs have gone by,they had talked the Sat of Thanksgiving weekend about finally getting married & she was ready to go to the Town Hall Monday morning to get their marriage license & get married in early December & have a big party over the Summer when most of the family could be there to celebrate.Sadly Reg passed away Sunday morning the day after she & Reg talked about finally getting married & she's still having a very hard time w/no one in her life. She spends most of her time at her apt & has neuropathy throughout her whole body after she was diagnosed last yr w/Type 2 diabetes on top of all the pain she lives w/on a daily basis. She has to use her cane to get around & needs her bad knee replaced again, only she's a little skittish w/no one to go to NYC w/her & then to help her when she gets home. So,say hey if u see her at the garage or at the store or any other stores in the area, she's lost a lot of weight u might not recognize her...Back to Central stop in & say hey to Jerry & Jay anytime & give Judi a call at the house, she & Harley are there hanging out during the day till Jerry gets home at night. She would enjoy the company.Know that Jay is doing his best being pulled in a 100 different directions during each day & Jerry is busy selling cars & taking care of the business,he's there most days after 12pm & there til 6 or 7pm & back around 10pm to close up so Jay can deliver cars to their customer's homes & get home to get some much needed rest!!!Thank u both Jay & Jerry for all ur hard work,u are both very much appreciated & loved!!!! During a recent business trip to Lake Placid, we ran into some unexpected transmission issues…read more After asking around, Hoffman's came highly recommended by several locals--enough that we stopped counting. Apparently, they operate almost entirely via text, which seems to be a post-COVID communication adaptation. I explained the situation via text with "Taylor"--though to this day, I'm still not sure if Taylor is a real person or just the automotive equivalent of Siri. I let him know we were only in town for a short time and asked if they could get us in ASAP. The response was quick and honest: "We don't do ASAP." Fair enough. That said, they did manage to get the vehicle in within 24 hours, which all things considered, was pretty ASAP. Unfortunately, the part we needed wasn't available through their usual sources. Fortunately, we sourced it ourselves through our dealer and had it overnighted. When it comes to car repairs, the old saying goes: You can have it good, cheap, or fast--pick two. Somehow, Taylor and the Hoffman's team managed to deliver all three. They got us in as fast as realistically possible, the work was solid (as evidenced by the fact that I'm typing this 1,000 miles later, well on our way back to Reno, NV), and the final bill came in nearly 15% under the original quote. That's a rare trifecta. Dealing with Hoffman's does come with a few quirks, but in the end, they're a small price to pay for honest, competent work--especially when you're far from home and just trying to get back on the road.

*Beware* On our return drive home from Upstate Auto, who…read moreperformed a clutch replacement on my Jeep, we make our first stop for gas. Pulling into the gas station we heard screeching from the Jeep. So I filled it with gas, and started it and it immediately starts screeching again. We shut the jeep off and it did not restart. After failed tries to start the Jeep we called roadside assistance. We luckily got the Jeep started again so we decided to continue driving home without any stops, but for gas. At the next gas station, the car once again would not start. We crawled under the jeep and found the starter incorrectly installed and the bolts holding it barely threaded. We hand tightened the bolts and knocked on the starter to get the jeep running. When we got home were I could pull into my garage I looked over Jeep fully. We found multiple issues with the service Upstate Auto provided. From damages to absolute negligence, Upstate Auto put mine and my family's life in danger. We found bolts missing from my drive shaft, and the bolts that were still there were barely threaded! We found a broken heat shield on the passenger control arm, we found 3 bolts on the transmission un-tightened, we found the starter was damaged, we found the transmission case was broken, we found exhaust bolts loose (they also charged me for new exhaust bolts and didn't even replace them with OEM bolts), we found clips on sensors broken and the list goes on. On top of the damages, Upstate Auto let us drive off home 9 hours down interstate highways like this! If that drive shaft would have separated at 70 MPH it could have been catastrophic for my family and the other motorist around us. Next I immediately called Upstate Auto the next day they were open and talked to one of the owners. After being referred to their service manager, and per their request, I submitted an email to them with all the damages found with the pictures and I requested an immediate refund. I also submitted this via text to their service manager. Upstate Auto requested that I take the Jeep to a local dealership for repair. So I took the jeep to Fairoaks Chrysler Jeep & Dodge in VA and the total damages caused to my vehicle were $4,212.79. Fairoaks Jeep confirmed all the damages, but told me the damage Upstate Auto caused to transmission case did not hurt the integrity of the vehicle and did not recommend replacing. To replace the transmission casing it would cost $2,442 and looking at the work involved to perform the service I was turned off. So I did not pursue a fix of the transmission case with the full intent to get a refund on the original service for $1942.71 and call it even. So Upstate Auto covered $1770.79 of a total of 4,212.79 in damages and never refunded me for the original service of $1942.71. When I contacted the service manager regarding a refund, he said they did not plan on providing a refund since they covered repairs. When I brought up the fact that they did not cover repairs for transmission case, another $2,442, he said they did not feel they caused the damages to the transmission case and that that could of happened offroading. NOT EVEN A CHANCE! In the photos attached you can see the break to the transmission case is fresh, no oxidation, rust, anything! This jeep sat in upstate New York during their winter season for 2 weeks and the cut/breaks are that fresh!? On top of that, where its broken, for it to have been damaged via offroad, there would have to be other damages to the undercarriage (which there are not, my jeep is immaculate, except for the damages these incompetent fools caused). After arguing with the service manager, he said I would have to talk to the owners regarding a refund. So I requested to talk to the owners and the service manager told me to call back into the dealership and ask for them. Like really? I refused and told him I was no longer doing their job and he needed to tell the owners to call me. Well its been a month and no phone call. The owners never even called me to apologize during this whole process.
