It should be a crime that the government wants to privatize all national parks and it's a shame that we may not be able to enjoy this stunning area of the United States much longer. Take the long way during your roadtrip and drive through the Blue Ridge Parkway with the windows down, you will not be disappointed! The fresh air and calming scenery is healing to the soul! There are plenty of overlooks, as well. Take your time, enjoy the ride!

The open stretch was in higher elevations (hence not impacted by the hurricane) which meant we had some really spectacular views of the mountains and terrain. It really was wonderful. There are a ton of scenic overlooks and a few maintained spots where you can pull over and enjoy a picnic or use the facilities (they're barebones restrooms but they have them) but aside from that amenities are few and far between so be sure to pack some food, drinks, and make sure your tank is full of gas so you can enjoy the views and explore stress free! The only trouble was there wasn't a lot of information available on what we'd find on the parkway (meaning what stretch was closed, what was open, must see overlooks, hiking trails, etc) as the visitors centers were closed and the Smoky Mountain NP visitor center we stopped into didn't have any brochures or maps or anything. Luckily once we got onto the parkway we were able to find a scenic overview with some signage that had a map so we took a picture of that and was helpful. The good news is is that I believe right after our trip they reopened another large stretch of the Parkway northeast for Asheville (which I believe has has all the amazing waterfalls) so we'll have to come back another time to enjoy all those views!

This is not a large State Park but it has a lot to offer. The historical site is a short walk from the campground and contains a plethora of information. The rangers are very friendly and gladly answer any questions as well as giving nature hikes and historical tours. The sites slope downhill toward the river but get leveler the closer you are to be the river. Large Motorhomes will want to avoid the first row (closest to the road) and possibly the second row. You will definitely need a few more leveling blocks on these rows. The last two rows are not too bad with few to no leveling blocks needed. We found Verizon and AT&T Cell and Data Services to work well. The park offers free WiFi that is readily usable most of the day. Note: If you have a long trailer or Motorhome, say 30' or more. There are several routes to get here coming off of 11E. Make sure and call the campground for directions. You want to follow the route from the Limestone area that takes you under the railroad tracks. Otherwise, you will be on some uncomfortable narrow curvy roads.

I recently return from NC and although I never had plans to drive the entire parkway the closures made the drive a little disappointing this trip. The speed limit is 45 mph which forces you to slow down and enjoy the many overlooks and breathtaking views along the way. This parkway is definitely not designed to get you from point A to point B in record time and in no way is a short cut, if you're looking for the shortest route and have a schedule to keep stick with the interstates. There are lots of entrance and exit points along the parkway so don't worry about running out of fuel or finding a place to eat although I recommend filling up before entering the parkway and packing a lunch and enjoy your meal at one of the many turnouts. Fortunately my visit was prior to the leafs turning so there wasn't must traffic, unfortunately my visit was prior to the leafs turning so I missed the beauty that comes with the fall season. This parkway is definitely a national treasure and if you have the opportunity to experience it you should even if it's a small section it's well worth the effort if you've never experienced this beautiful parkway...

On this trip, I was able to enjoy the Parkway from Soco Gap (near Maggie Valley NC) to Newfound Gap, the Southern End on the way to Clingmans Dome. It was about 30 miles of twisting roads, fantastic views and even some wildlife. Yes, a momma and baby elk on the side of the road. You won't find much for cell service along much of the area. If you're driving slow or the speed limit and you notice a few vehicles behind you, do us all a favor and PULL OVER and let us past. Some of us really want to go a little faster. Upon check-in, we were welcomed with the Biltmore champagne, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a book about the estate--such thoughtful touches that made us feel instantly celebrated. Our room was beautiful, and the bed was incredibly comfortable--exactly what we needed for a relaxing getaway. The only minor downsides were the lack of accessible outlets for charging devices and no easy way to grab ice unless you called the operator or waited for housekeeping. We also noticed that sound traveled a bit--you can hear hallway noise due to the gap under the door. That said, the experience overall was exceptional. There's so much to do on the estate. The highlight for us was the complimentary wine tasting at Antler Hill Village--nearly an hour with 8 tastings per person, which honestly felt like such a great deal. We also rented bikes to explore the property, which was a fun and scenic way to take everything in. While there are several dining options, reservations are definitely needed--probably the only logistical wrinkle during our stay. One thing we really appreciated was the shuttle system around the estate. It made getting to places like the Biltmore House incredibly easy and stress-free.

The accommodations were very nice -- comfortable bed, well-appointed bathroom with shower, gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge mountains and surrounding estate. It's a large inn, seven floors, but the hallways were quiet and we didn't hear any noise from our room. The Library Lounge is on the lobby level and a place for drinks and light meals if you don't have a reservation for the Dining Room, which oddly, is downstairs. Both rooms were decked out for Christmas and as its focal point had a fireplace. The food was very good -- mostly we partook of the breakfast buffet (which was part of our package) and had a nice dinner there before our tour of Biltmore House. Service was excellent, from the hotel staff to the valet staff (they tried to bring us the Aston Martin (lol), to the dining staff and the shooting instructor (we had a clay shooting lesson). There is plenty to do for a long weekend -- biking, carriage rides, shooting, falconry, winery tour, riding, shopping, gardens, Biltmore House (of course), and more. A shuttle takes you to the different locations -- the winery, the shopping, the house, the gardens -- so if you didn't have a car you could get around via shuttle. I've wanted to visit Biltmore for many years and it definitely lived up to expectations. Staying at the Inn is one way to be close to the house. It was a very nice experience.
