The murder mystery itself was the highlight, the storyline was engaging, and the actors were clearly well-trained in improv and very kind. Murder Mystery: 8/10 The room was fairly standard, what you'd expect in an old-timey house. No TV or modern extras, but there were plenty of charging outlets, which was appreciated. Room: 7/10 The food during the stay was incredibly disappointing. Most of it felt like reheated microwave meals. Breakfast included eggs, bacon (very thin, broken pieces), cubed potatoes that were oddly watery, ham slices, stale danishes, cereal cups, and a parfait option that had run out by our 9am time slot. Dinner was similar in quality. I chose the cheese ravioli, but despite being second in line, it was cold. The same watery potatoes from breakfast were served again, along with green beans. The only highlight was the coffee, which was good. Food: 2/10 Unfortunately, the parking situation is very poor. There are only 5-6 spots directly outside and a few more up the hill behind the carriage house. I was dropped off at check-in and informed staff that my boyfriend would be arriving late. I was assured there would be parking available and that staff would be present 24/7 to assist him. However, I woke up to a call from him saying he couldn't find parking. I went downstairs to get help, but no staff could be found. Not wanting to disturb other guests, I eventually gave up, and he had to park on the street in the neighborhood on top of the hill overnight. At breakfast, we were briefly told about additional parking behind the carriage house, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the issue from the night before, nor any attempt to make it right. Parking: 1/10 The staff overall seemed inexperienced and, at times, unprofessional. While I empathize with younger staff members, there were several uncomfortable moments--such as hearing an employee joke about "killing" another staff member over a small mistake, and staff walking away mid-conversation while we were trying to ask follow-up questions. Staff: 4/10 Overall, there were some enjoyable elements, especially the murder mystery, but the experience didn't quite match the price point. With a few key improvements, this could be a much more worthwhile stay.

My friend came across Mary's Guesthouse via the internet and booked the place for two nights. She did most of the planning and she did very well especially in choosing this place to stay. I never had the privilege to stay in guesthouses before and surely this will not be my last after a great experience at Mary's Guesthouse. The owner Tom was beyond amazing. One of the most hospitable Americans I've met since I move here from the Philippines. My friends and I (a group of 6 people) came late on Friday around 11 pm, and I'm sure it was such an inconvenient time to arrive but Tom is such a gracious host. He greeted us outside his house while we were parking in the streets. It was pretty cold and the thought of him waiting for us made us feel welcomed. He helped us with our luggage, opened the door for us and even reserve a parking spot for us. And the moment he opened the door, I swear I instantly feel at home. He let us relax a bit before he made a quick tour of the place. It was a big guesthouse and it was more than enough space for 6 people, it could accommodate more I'm sure. It has 3 floors, 3 guestrooms and 2 full baths. Each room has at least 2 - 3 beds. Living room has 3 couches, a piano, and assorted books and magazines arranged beautifully. I love the postcards wall situated in 1 corner of the living room, postcards given to Tom and Michelle (tom's wife) from friends all over the world (That's how friendly they are :)). Adjacent to the living room is the dining area equipped with two dining tables, and at the back of the house would be the kitchen - equipped with stove, microwave, ref, basic utensils, pots and pans, recycling bin, trash bags, coffee mugs.. etc. The bedrooms are moderate in sizes, I love how the bed are great to sleep in, even the bunk beds. comforters, sheets, pillows are provided of course. The bathroom is very clean, you could sleep in it, roll over the floor if you want , that's how clean it is. The guesthouse is old but very well maintained. Tom and Michelle did a really great job. For the price we paid, it was definitely worth it. I love the place. What made it even worth our while was the immense hospitality of Tom. He made sure we were ok and settled. He left a note when we got home after our ski trip (how sweet is that!!!). He came by for breakfast to say good morning, when we offered our Filipino breakfast, he never hesitated to try it (I appreciate that). He was eager to learn how our ski trip went. I know he had a lot to offer with regards to things to do in Jim Thorpe. But unfortunately, we only stayed 2 nights and never really get to experience what the town has to offer. The guesthouse is perfectly located in this small charming town. In the summer, our goal is to come back for whitewater rafting. I hope we can come back and if we do, I'll definitely call Tom and book Mary's Guesthouse again. The place, the price and the host is just the right combination for a great weekend. I cannot thank Tom enough for his kindness and hospitality. I wish a lot of people would visit his place because the experience was just amazing.

As of April 2014, Mary's is no longer renting rooms or beds, they are strictly a 'house rental' wherein you must rent the whole house for a minimum of two nights. Economically, if you have 5 people or more, it's a good deal. If you have 7 or 8, it's a great deal. You get a whole house: 3 bedrooms (actually 4 because there's a little one they don't tell you about), 2 full baths, a living room, kitchen, dining room and even a little courtyard out back. Don't expect fancy! This place has been used as a guesthouse/hostel for the past 10 years and it definitely shows that it's been 'lived in,' but it's still clean and comfortable. Oh, and without a TV - that's right, they don't have cable - you might think you'll be bored, but you won't even miss it, there's so much to do, and you can talk with your friends all night without electronic noise interrupting all the time. Kind of nice... And the location is great - walkable to everything in town - restaurants, shops, music and you can ride bike from the house right to a couple of the rail-trails.

Our host was wonderful and accommodating, as he helped us carry our luggage into the mansion and escorted us to our room. Our room, "The Blue Room," was immaculate to say the least. The little extras were amazing. We booked a romance package and there was a bottle of wine and scrumptious chocolates waiting for us in the mini fridge. Other goodies were coffee and tea, and an assortment of yummy cookies out in the beautiful hall. Everything about our room was delightful and cozy. The decor and relaxing atmosphere really made us feel pampered and cared for. The building itself is very well maintained and was spotlessly clean. The gorgeous Tiffany glass chandeliers and Victorian decor really make you feel like you're back in time. The front porch is a lovely place to sit and relax, read, or enjoy a snack. Last, but certainly not least, our three course breakfast the next morning, was absolutely divine! I cannot have milk or eggs and they had oat milk, and almond milk for my coffee, whichever I preferred. Also, my husband had eggs for his entree and I was served a roasted corn polenta that was out of this world. The chef is amazing! Everything was delicious and we both cleaned our plates. You can immediately tell right from the start that everything is handled with love and care, and we cannot wait to take another trip back!

It had a very nice display of antique and landscape artwork fit for a couple who are first time visiting. There was a well lit closet for 2 luggage, a king/queen bed, 2 chairs and a dresser. It was small, but I found it to be cozy. No tv but great WiFi. Our bathroom had the standard amenities and had its own heater. There was a hairdryer, makeup towels/remover wipes, shampoo, conditioner, soap, lotion, towels, and all a person would except in a bathroom. I cannot even begin to explain the breakfast service. It goes beyond 5 star. I will simply say that the photos in my review is what the current owners present. During the October fall foliage prime is when my stay was. The town becomes flooded with people on Saturday and Sunday (weather pending). It is highly suggested that if this is your stay duration time that you book in time before there is no vacancy. It also is suggested you speak with the owners so that they can help you navigate with tips to avoid headaches with the parking, the scenic train and any other things that may involve the crowds. This B&B is not kid-friendly because of all the delicate statues and knick nacs. There is dog on site but we saw it once, not even in the common areas.

Our first time visiting the town of Jim Thorpe. We stayed in…read morethe Legacy Grand  Suite for 4 nights and had a fantastic getaway! The suite was spotless and beautifully furnished and had a very comfortable king-size bed. We received a gracious and warm welcome from the host when we arrived. First, let me start from the outside going in. The street that the Inn is located is so quaint and charming, we weren't even inside yet, and I knew it was going to be wonderful. Diane and Chris were fantastic hosts, gave us tips on where to eat and things to do. The Inn has a fireplace in the common area along with coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Our suite was a great size, and I was very impressed with how clean it was. The mattress was very comfortable, and so was the couch in the sitting room. The in room breakfast was perfect! Stocked juices in the mini fridge, fresh yogurt with honey and berries, and ready on our table were granola, fruits, scones, muffins, biscotti and the most delicious cakes. We did not get into our car at all as everything was less than a 10 min walk away. We did the train ride, a show at the opera house, Big Creek tasting room, Myst, Molly Maguires, and shopping. When we come back to Jim Thorpe, and we will be back, Times House will be our place to stay! I'm already trying to arrange a friends trip for next fall!

We didn't have to hunt for parking, as they have designated spots for the bed and breakfast. Chris (one of the innkeepers) greeted us after we parked to offer assistance with luggage and show us to our room. We were staying in Serenity which was located on the third floor. The room was beautifully decorated and meticulously clean. A small table was already set with dishes for breakfast the next morning. Fresh baked goods, courtesy of Diane (the other innkeeper), as well as fresh fruit, homemade granola, and a refrigerator stocked with orange juice, apples juice, bottled water, creamers for coffee and yogurt were all provided for us to enjoy for breakfast at our convenience. Down in the main parlor there was also a side table set up with coffee, tea and hot cocoa. When housekeeping visited our room the next afternoon, everything was tidied up and the items we consumed were replenished. The room had a television with streaming ability. The location of Times House was perfect and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. We did not have to visit our car again until our departure. My husband and I have already recommended Times House to several friends and plan to visit here again ourselves.
