This place is just the most supportive gym I've ever been to. I hadn't really moved my body in a dozen years and I'm over 50, so was nervous about participating in fitness. The owners, Rachel and Andrew, met with me to talk about my goals and really, my goal is to not need a walker when I'm 80- that's it. I just know I need to move...I also know myself and if I'm not attending classes, I won't go on my own. This place has classes scheduled throughout the day so I can always find one that works for me. The coaches are all really amazing and supportive and help me modify anything I feel I'm not ready to do-- with no judgement! Been a member for 5 months and it's kind of changing my life. I sleep better, have less anxiety and just feel generally good about making positive moves towards better health. If you're in the area and want to get into CrossFit (or, like me, had no desire to "CrossFit" but wanted support for my health!) this is your place. I've been an active person my entire life, but I needed more structure to keep myself excited about working out. The folks at High Voltage are not only some of the kindest and most supportive folks I've encountered, I have also been enjoying the learning and that constant improvement from the coaching. High Voltage is my new meditation place. It's full of fun and focused individuals, great coaches, and a whole lot of physical fitness fun. As a new father, I got out of shape pretty quickly. I had a gym membership, but I felt like I was just doing the motions and could barely attend. Still overweight and unmotivated. Mentally exhausted. But I knew exercise was going to be my best tool in snapping out of my mental fog. And I needed a community to help with motivation. High Voltage is by far THE BEST INVESTMENT on MYSELF in a while. It's been two weeks since I Joined and my mental health has significantly improved. It's definitely the environment that HV provides: the combination of the exercises, seeing others help you out, the coaches teaching you proper forms, and seeing YOURSELF IMPROVE. I can't believe I've never reviewed HVF aka CFHV. What can I say about this gym/box that's not already been said? First of all, the programming is great and *intentional*, backed up by modern sports science and informed by the latest developments therein. The coaches are great and--contrary to the general perception of how Xfit coaches can be--want you to protect your body and do everything safely and correctly first and foremost. I am constantly seeing them asking newer members to take weights off the bar until they feel comfortable that the foundational technique is there. The culture and the community are truly fantastic; just about everyone is super supportive, happy to be there, really friendly, and mature... most of the time, lol. HFV really feels like a home away from home for me, and the people here feel like extended family. If you've never done any fitness in your life, this place is for you. If you're a gym rat powerbuilder looking to actually get healthy and athletic rather than just look amazing, this is also for you. If you've never felt welcome or supported in your fitness journey, this is absolutely for you. The only person I can think of who might want to find a different box would be some SUPER hardcore obnoxious cutthroat overly-competitive type. But even then, you should check HFV out... cuz who knows, you might find you enjoy these vibes better! read more

As someone who deals with a good amount of social anxiety, particularly when it comes to going to the gym, High Voltage Fitness has been an incredible experience these past couple years. It's not just a place to work out, it's a diverse and welcoming community of personalities who all share the same goal - to get strong and fit and have a blast doing it! I used to stick exclusively to the open gym time where you can do the WOD, or your own thing, in almost near privacy. But when I started to plateau and feel stuck, I finally got over the anxiety and decided to try the group classes a few months ago. And I can wholeheartedly say once you start attending group classes, you won't want to stop! Coaches like Andrew, Nitza and Ben bring such great energy and enthusiasm to every single class, while offering superb instruction and feedback (and even alternative movements) to help you improve your form and hit your goals. The programming can be challenging at times, but so incredibly rewarding once you start to feel yourself getting better and stronger. The best part, though, truly are the other members. Andrew and Rachel have created an environment that makes every BODY feel welcome. I've been a member for a few weeks now and oh my gosh, this place is amazing. As someone who is very self conscious in the gym, I had to push myself to come in and I'm so glad I did. It's pretty intense (in the perfect way) but the coaches modify to your comfort level & ability which is great. I love the variety of workouts and each coach has been so welcoming and patient. As someone who sits at a desk 45+ hours a week, I am SO grateful that I found High Voltage Fitness! I used to work out at home but I felt like I wasn't making much progress, and I wasn't confident I was even doing the exercises correctly. I took a 1-day trial class at Crossfit High Voltage and haven't looked back! I take the morning classes and what I love about it is every day is a totally unique workout routine so working out never feels boring. What's even better is you get a coach who can actually make sure you're doing the exercises correctly. I take the morning classes with Andrew and he's been super helpful at demonstrating every exercise, providing form notes, as well as providing easier alternatives if the exercises are too difficult. I was a complete noob when I started (and still am) but have since learned squats, deadlifts, OHS, cleans, snatches, and lots more! This is a very inclusive gym and I have NEVER felt judged or anyone looking down on me for me being a beginner. My physical and mental health has honestly never been better since joining. There's also a TON of things I haven't even taken advantage of besides the strength classes - there's cardio fusion courses, open gym, yoga, and mobility classes. Crossfit gyms tend to be more expensive than normal gyms but I think you 100% get what you pay for with quality instruction, top of the line equipment, and a pretty much 1-hour-awesome-workout guaranteed. Anyways, I can't recommend this gym more highly (but I also selfishly hope that it doesn't get too popular and keeps its familial vibe). read more

Looking to expand my workouts to something more challenging, I joined High Voltage earlier this month. The instructing core is awesome. Each instructor is extremely fit and knowledgeable about the skills they are teaching. You can tell that they like being there and leading the classes, which is really important. They also help to scale the workouts for those who may not be ready for the more advanced tasks. Make no mistake though, "scaled" does not equal easy because they still encourage you to push yourself into eventually becoming proficient at doing the exercises and movements as prescribed. Everybody is friendly and always introduces themselves. This is important because the majority of Crossfit workouts drain your mind as well as endurance. Therefore, the support structure of encouragement helps one finish the workouts. The facility is clean and fairly new. All the equipment is well-maintained and classes are never too crowded. The schedule is very accommodating with classes being offered every few hours, from early morning to later in the evening. The instructors are also good about getting the classes in and out within an hour, keeping the pace constant while transitioning between, warm ups, skills and the workout of the day (WOD). For somebody completely new to the "Crossfit" world, High Voltage got me hooked from the first day. The only downside -- and one for which I will not knock High Voltage for because they are better than most other "boxes" or Crossfit gyms -- is the pricing. Crossfit in general can be expensive, especially when coupled with a regular gym membership. Aside from that, if you are new to Crossfit or looking for a better/closer facility to join, come take a class here! read more

The coaches here really know their stuff. They aren't here just to stand in front of the class and demonstrate the moves. They engage with each member and customize the workout to each individual's fitness needs. Every workout can be scaled to the individual. I know it can be intimidating to join crossfit if you have never done it but this gym has a very welcoming community of good people. The membership is month-to-month. No long term contracts. I HATED crossfit for years. Always thought that the workouts weren't thought out, planned in advance, and had zero degree of progression. Or safety for that matter. I thought that crossfitters were people who "got scoliosis for time", and swore to myself that I'd never enter a crossfit gym. Low and behold, years later I enter through the doors of CFHV, humbled and open-minded, and spoke with some of the coaches. I was very surprised when I discovered that Dan and his team actually planned out training for the entire YEAR, and progressions on an 8 week cycle, things that I had been doing for years as a powerlifter. I signed up right away after I spoke with Dan about the training, and as much as I may curse the day his father met his mother when I'm pushing the sled or doing burpees, I've grown to appreciate the workouts. The coaches know what they're doing. They're sticklers for form, which is NOT what I expected coming into a crossfit gym. They're good motivators and can walk the walk whilst talking the talk. As an experienced lifter, and former crossfit hater, I can truthfully say that it's a fantastic place. The workouts are brutal, yes. Will you want to die during/after? Probably. Will you learn a hell of a lot, get stronger, get leaner, and perfect your technique while you're doing it? Absolutely. read more

If you want results sign up now! I can assure you won't regret it! It's truly a life changing experience. Within the first month, you will already see a change in your body and how you feel. When I first started, I used to look up to the girls who I thought were in unattainable shape. They were able to do push ups, pull ups, and lift heavy weights. Within 2 months, I was already at their level. It's amazing, how fast you can get into shape by actually putting in real hard work. The best part of it is that our workouts are literally just between 5-15 minutes long! I used to have major back problems and was in pain almost everyday. Crossfit fixed my back issues by strengthening it giving my spine support. My allergies have also subsided, and I no longer get headaches anymore. My posture has improved and my energy level is high. Who wouldn't want to feel this way? The reason why I think crossfit works is that first there is an immense amount of energy in the room, from the owner to the athletes. There is a sense of community here that you don't get in a 24 hour fitness or a regular gym. You are surrounded by motivated and health conscious people. You have an awesome coach who will give you the attention that like a personal trainer would. You have your colleagues to encourage you, push you, and inspire you. You have measurable results from the time it takes for you to complete the work out to the increase in weight you are able to lift each time. You will see the results in your body and you will have increased endurance and strength. People who join can't stop talking about it ! I come from a sports crazed family and we've always been active doing various things. When I left the structured school sports environment I found it difficult to stick to a workout routine. I've had gym memberships & workout apps for years but they're no good if I don't have the motivation to use them. I swore I would never do CrossFit. Mainly because I felt like I didn't have what it took to workout with the incredibly fit people, and also because I didn't want to be "one of those CrossFit guys" A few months ago I went to the doctor and stood on the scale 15lb heavier than I used to be, after not working out & not eating right. Along with that, my friends who have been working out at High Voltage for a while kept asking me to come with them. I managed to always have an excuse but that trip to the doctor erased them all. It was clear that I lacked the motivation & knowledge to work out on my own, and CrossFit was about the only thing I hadn't tried. I went to High Voltage and that changed the game. I met Dan & Bryan at the first workout and for a super shy person like me they made me feel right at home. They were friendly and were there throughout the workout to show me exactly how to do the skills and most of all to encourage everyone to keep pushing. I've been to a couple of Crossfit gym around the LA area and this one is really the best. Coach Tim and his staff are really professional, helpful and friendly to all levels of ability. The facility is clean and they're consistently making improvements to the equipment and setup to guarantee a great workout. The cost is about $300/month for my wife and I, but it's been really worth it. They hold lots of community building events and we've met some really wonderful people. I joined High Voltage back in 1925. Ok, more like 2009, but it was seriously a long time ago. High Voltage had just moved from North Hollywood to Burbank, and I was looking for a challenge. What I found was that and more. I found a community of everyday folks that were so energized, supportive, and friendly to everyone regardless of fitness levels. I had not felt this since of belonging since my days on high school sports teams. So much of that sentiment has remained to this day. We really do say a big HELLO to every person that walks in, and we are excited when new folks join. We celebrate our small wins (showing up counts!) and big PRs. We encourage when the lifts get tough, or we hit a rough spot. Most of all, we are just doing life together in the best of ways. I have gained so many close friends, attended weddings, birthday parties, baby showers, the list goes on. This sense of camaraderie does not happen by mistake. It takes a safe space where leadership sets the tone of how we will interact. High Voltage has changed leadership and coaches over the years, but we have consistently maintained a sense of belonging. With Andrew now at the helm, I feel the strength of our community is unwavering. I see High Voltage continuing to welcome new members with the same kindness and encouragement to achieve their health goals. I see a leader whose goal is to evolve our gym into an even more accepting space where athletes of all abilities and backgrounds can be supported. I like that we continue to lessen the intimidation of walking into a gym for the first time in years, weightlifting and prioritizing fitness. I joined this box when I was living in LA. The coaches and other members were fantastic. The sense of community here was fantastic and I appreciated it every day. I was involved in a bad motorcycle accident in November that forced me to take a break from going while I healed up until March (I broke 3 vertebrae in 2 different ways). I called and explained the situation and they were willing to work with me and placed my account on hold until I could get back. What makes me realize how much they care, is that they share information about members on their website and they were kind enough to share the story of my accident and recovery on the site. I also volunteered my time while I was off and took pictures for the various hero WOD's and posted them for everyone to see.
