I like that there's a mini introduction, overview of miscellaneous items before the workout begins as well as overview of the game plan for the hour. It's been well structured and organized. I am late in preparing for my next hyrox event so I hope that this short and sweet time with this facility will get me there. I've been in Santa Clarita for the last few months and haven't loved my time training there... so here I am hoping it's worth the drive. I do wish I had found them sooner. Sam has been great with onboarding me to the gym answering my 101 questions and trying to find something to accommodate me. This makes me appreciate small business facilities greatly. Checked out a drop in class since I was looking to pick up xfit again after a few years off from having kids. Tried the gym but personally prefer a more dynamic work out . Pros: solid equipment , large space, private parking, knowledgeable instructors Cons: not a really welcoming community to newbies No group cooldowns Classes follow regular pattern of warm up technique then wod but not sure what happened but we went way over time and started the wod nearly 45-50 min into the class. For people with young children this doesn't really work well for needing to be in and out in an hour. Maybe since it was the last class of the day there was less engagement but this was not like my previous box where I was immediately welcomed and folks mingled and talked to me. read more

My fitness journey started about 6 weeks ago when I attempted a difficult hike, Tongva Peak Loop. I was shocked to find myself absolutely defeated by the steep grade and terrain. I had to turn back about 3/4 of the way! That's when I got more serious about my fitness. I started going to Strange Strength 5-6 days a week. I love the atmosphere, the camaraderie, the sense of inclusion, and the knowledgeable coaches. Every day, as the time rolls around for me to step away from my office desk and head over to Strange Strength, I get an excited buzz of anticipation tingling throughout my whole body. This weekend, I went back to Tongva Peak Loop, and I summited it with ease. In a little over a month, I've seen real, measurable progress in strength, endurance, and confidence. Initially was looking for a gym to just "workout" and learn more about CrossFit - fast forward one year later and now I'm competing. Great atmosphere and great people. Plenty of equipment to use and a sizable space to host a variety of workouts. This gym is beginner friendly while also being competitive. Having done CrossFit since 2012, I have been to my share of gyms in SoCal. I have been a coach for over 8 years and was pleasantly surprised by the way people moved. You can tell right away that the coaches at Strange put an emphasis on technique, form, and progression. The programming is challenging, but infinitely scalable. This place is magical. I've been doing CrossFit for over 10 years, and coach Sam is fixing and improving things that no one has ever attempted, or could ever, fix before. I'm kicking myself for not joining sooner. The athletes here are of all levels, beginners to top notch (with no ego). As for the top athletes- It's rare to come into a CrossFit and have so many people be able to do such highly skilled movements, and that all because of Sam's exceptional coaching and leadership. I cannot recommend this place enough. Someone should actually invent a Time Machine just so I can go back in time to join strange when they opened 4 years ago. read more

I've been doing CrossFit for a while and in all honesty, I have never been to a gym like Strange. The programming is beyoooond great, coaches are knowledgeable and gives you attention that it almost feel like you're getting personal training. They give you great tips and cues to help you progress and understand movements better. They dont just ask you to do movements, they HELP you understand them. At first, it's intimidating to see these strong people but once you get past that, you'll see and feel that everyone is very welcoming and helpful. They also give you options w workouts in case you're feeling beat. A big plus is that they have top notch equipments and a huge parking space! I've been doing "functional fitness" (AKA CrossFit) for 8 years and coaching for almost 6 years and can say without a doubt that Strange is the best gym in town. I joined Strange about 4 months ago after being in quarantine for months. I had previously been a member of and coached at another well-known gym in the Studio City area that unfortunately decided to forego any sort of health and safety protocols, putting their members and staff in danger. I knew I had to make a change. This is a gym with integrity. The owner, Sam, and the entire coaching staff at Strange has gone above and beyond in their responsibilities to ensure that their community can workout safely and not put anyone at risk. They have two MASSIVE outdoor areas for workouts, and the programming has been EXCELLENT despite the current restrictions. Not only that, their indoor space is very impressive as well. It is a HUGE gym with a beautiful rig for gymnastics, and all of the strength and weightlifting equipment you could ever possibly need that I CANNOT WAIT to use when it is deemed safe to workout inside again. The community has been very welcoming to me and all of my friends and we have taken full advantage of all of their class offerings. They have Olympic weightlifting classes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and the coaching is top notch. If you are a competitive athlete, they also have a very active competitors club that meets on Saturdays, and while I haven't joined in on the fun (yet), let me tell you what, they go HARD. ALSO, if you're more of a lone soldier like myself, they offer Open Gym ALL DAY so you can workout at your own pace, if that's more your style. Did I mention that there are a lot of cute dogs that hang there too? BECAUSE THERE ARE! Bottom line, if you are looking for a safe, inclusive, and welcoming place that has CHALLENGING but EXCELLENT programming, surrounded by good vibes and good people, Strange is the place to be. read more

I've worked out at a handful of boxes now and can honestly say Strange is in a league of its own. Hands down best Crossfit gym in LA, let alone North Hollywood or the valley. The culture is great, truly aligns with what I like to call "the spirit of Crossfit". Everyone is super nice, fun and supportive. No egos or gym drama whatsoever. Pretty much everyone I've talked to (I've attended 4 different Crossfit gyms in nearby SFV area) has claimed Strange has the best programming in the area. It's true Strange does indeed program well. Each workout has two standards so that you can follow a workout plan that fits more towards your fitness level and still feel like you've completed a prescribed workout. I genuinely haven't had a single poorly designed workout here. Strange also has a talented coaching staff. Personally, I go to CrossFit classes for coaching and community. The coaches here get involved in your form and progress. The community roots for each other and encourages involvement in meets and competitions. Although it's certainly not small, they may need a bigger space soon as word has gotten out about what Strange has to offer. read more

I've been a member of Strange for almost 5 years. This gym...the members, the coaches, the programing...it is beyond excellent. It's rare to find a location in LA were there's simultaneously ample space to workout and parking (and if you have a fur baby they're more than welcome), but this place has it all. The thing I love most about this gym is that everyone is welcome and every class is modifiable for all levels of fitness. I work in the film industry and am often gone for months on end (& rarely able to work out while on location). This is the first place I return once I'm back in LA. It's always a little humbling to feel like I'm "starting over' each time I return, but the coaches and members always welcome me back with open arms and understand the ebb and flow of my job. Just recently, I've spent 7 month in & out of a medical boot dealing with a stress fracture in my foot. It's been so encouraging to be able to have every workout modified & will continue to be modified until I'm released from my doctor's care. At Strange, the energy and drive of the coaches and members is infectious.
