    Tongva Peak marker

My fitness journey started about 6 weeks ago when I attempted a difficult hike, Tongva Peak Loop. I was shocked to find myself absolutely defeated by the steep grade and terrain. I had to turn back about 3/4 of the way! That's when I got more serious about my fitness. I started going to Strange Strength 5-6 days a week. I love the atmosphere, the camaraderie, the sense of inclusion, and the knowledgeable coaches. Every day, as the time rolls around for me to step away from my office desk and head over to Strange Strength, I get an excited buzz of anticipation tingling throughout my whole body. This weekend, I went back to Tongva Peak Loop, and I summited it with ease. In a little over a month, I've seen real, measurable progress in strength, endurance, and confidence. I'm grateful to be a member of this community and excited for what the future will bring as I continue to put in the work!

    Paradise in a "box."

Initially was looking for a gym to just "workout" and learn more about CrossFit - fast forward one year later and now I'm competing. Great atmosphere and great people. Plenty of equipment to use and a sizable space to host a variety of workouts. This gym is beginner friendly while also being competitive. All In all, expect to be pushed and be prepared to be surprised with what you can do and handle.

Still going here and still the best gym in the Valley. Amazing coaches and a super supportive community!

2023 Update: Strange is still the place to be. I have struggled with a couple of injuries the last year. While trying to figure out the source the coaches at the gym have been so great about providing me modifications. I have been able to keep my fitness up and still be a part of the community. I highly recommend!

Update! This place is still my 2nd home! The coaches and programming prepared me for my first big stage comp at the Granite Games in June, which was something I wanted to do since my first day of CrossFit. Looking forward to what another year will bring!

    Awesome dogs everyday at class

UPDATE! I still love this place! We're currently training for our gym's first co-Ed comp coming up on Sept 10, 2022!

Fitquity is probably one of my favorite gyms in Burbank! It's primarily a boxing gym, which is…read moreexactly my style. Some of the equipment, like the cardio and fitness machines, is a bit older, but overall, I prefer coming here over places like 24 Hour Fitness, Crunch, Planet Fitness, or the Y. They don't have amenities like a pool or sauna, but I get a fantastic workout every time, and I love that it's less crowded. It's a great spot for focused training and a more personal gym experience.

Currently a member at Blink, which is honestly a steal for the price, but as someone who bikes…read moreeverywhere and is busy, the commute there is a bit tough. Going to fitiquity would save me 30-40 minutes 3-4 times a week in commuting time, so I really wanted it to work. I arrived and told the woman at the front desk I was interested in doing a trial membership. She shoves a piece of paper at me, tells me to put my name down, and hands me a card, and that's it. No spiel. No what are you looking for. No let me show you around. No liability waiver (insane...). I ask her if there's locker rooms. She says "under the W." From the angle, I can't see what she's talking about, and she looks incredibly belabored when I ask her to show me where. The locker rooms and facilities are fine. A little outdated, but livable. It was definitely hot in there, so I don't think they're cranking AC. There's stuff sort strewn all over the floor in one area, which is annoying especially since I come to the gym to clear my head but again, not the end of the world. I wander around for a bit, try to find the stuff I usually use, which is mostly free weights. There's no real warm up area or mats if the rooms are filled with classes, which was not great but I could make do since I often workout at odd hours. The deal breaker was when I couldn't find the squat rack. I asked the same belabored employee where it was. She pointed to the smith machine. I said "that's a smith machine. Do you have a squat rack?" She pointed to a stack of barbells used for seated overhead presses and suggested I use that. I told her I need safety bars, the ability to rack on my back, etc. She said they didn't have one. I'm honestly shocked - while the gym has classes and prioritizes boxing, more than half the gym is dedicated to weight training. She offered no explanation as to why they wouldn't have one - is it broken? Do they have a philosophical objection to squat racks? Is this gym not intended for the kind of clientele that uses squat racks? Had the staff been even slightly more helpful, maybe I could've looked past the rest, but this would dramatically adjust my workouts in ways I'm not willing to cope with, especially for a pretty dramatic price increase from blink. I hope someday things will shift here and I'll be back, but until then, guess I'm sticking with Blink!

I clicked with his coaching style immediately and I knew he was going to be the right coach for me. I was still very new to olympic weightlifting and was having a lot of issues with my form as all newbies do, but Charlie patiently worked with me to slowly correct my problems. As time went on, I made huge strides in my lifting and hit many PR's. I even competed last year for the first time, which I never thought I would do. Recently, I have shifted slightly away from strict weightlifting and wanted to take a more general fitness approach to my training. Charlie easily adapted his programming for me without a hitch. I am currently at the strongest I have ever felt and I know it has a lot to do with Charlie's thoughtful programming for me. He is a wonderful communicator and even though we don't see one another anymore on a routine basis, I know he is always there for me. I am proud to call him my fitness coach! I didn't know what to expect when I signed up for this. All I knew was that I wanted my Olympic lifts to improve, which would only be possible if someone guided me. I was pleasantly surprised when after just a few weeks of working with coach Charlie, my technique sharpened and, In turn, translated to constantly hitting "Prs" ( Personal Records). I saw improvements in my mechanics and realized a strength I did not know I had, and most importantly, I gained confidence when lifting. I am very grateful for the constant push and motivation Coach Charlie consistently gave me whenever I felt like giving up. It feels good to know that your coach is always rooting for you even when, at times, you don't want to root for yourself. The community at wilder athletics is very close And tight-knit. I receive a lot of encouragement and tons of support from my teammates. And most importantly, it's always nice to be surrounded by people with the same mindset and athletic goals who continually seek to improve. I highly recommend you give this a try. I promise that, like myself - you will be amazed by what you can accomplish.
