My husband and I really enjoy their swim program, shout out to the Swim Director, Kevin! He's awesome and our daughter has been enrolled to their swim program for over 2 years now. My husband and I also use their gym facilities and the machines and equipment are all well kept and maintained. It's also nice that there's a kids area that we can drop off our daughter while we work out. Our daughter enjoys the kids center because the staff are really great with kids. For the first time in about 10 years, I decided to join the YMCA again, and I had a great first impression at the Burbank YMCA. Grace helped sign me up and was extremely polite, helpful, and thorough in explaining everything and getting me set up. The first thing I noticed was how clean the center was, especially the weight room. I was also impressed that members actually re-racked their weights after working out, which is something you don't always see in Southern California gyms. Been to all the Ys in the valley, and this one's the best. The building is three stories tall and filled with all types of weightlifting goodies! Two racks, two cable machines, a regular cable weight machines as well as stackable plate ones, a platform for deadlifts, two trx stations, a punching bag, two assault bikes, a meaty cardio room with updated equipment, and my favorite...a sled :) I love pushing 250lbs around. It brings me joy! What's weird is people like using the green faux grass strip (aka the sled track) for sit-ups and such. It's not their fault tho, as all the low impacts weights are in the corner right next to the strip. The locker room has a sauna, and there's a nice lounging area just outside the locker room with quality stocked vending machines. The free book library is right there as well. The one problem was the cycle class. It's so so sad because they created an amazing space. It looks like one of those cycle clubs, with a raised area for the instructor, track lights around the mirror, and newer bikes. But we tried a class and realized very quickly why it's only moderately filled. The old dude started by saying we were going to have a cheer off, saying he was working on our public speaking (aka WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING). He kept saying just wait til we get going, that the class would be challenging, but ten minutes in and we were still stretching to classical music. I couldn't stomach it, I had to leave before it "got good." Overall a wonderful facility though, it's always a treat when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

Avoid! The Burbank Y has been declining for years. Through many years of mismanagement they've neglected their core paying membership by focusing on extraneous efforts (Colony Theatre, Social Impact Center, etc.). The Y child development program is a joke (glorified babysitting with no curriculum) and staff are subpar. Now that the Los Angeles Y took over, things are even worse! It's so sad to see a long time Burbank institution decay into the morass it is today. read more

I tried to give this camp the benefit of the doubt hoping the communication issues stemmed from staff changes and the merger. I was disappointed to find that nothing improved by the end of the camp program. There is no way to contact someone on site. My emails went unanswered. When I finally got someone on the phone they were clueless. There is no weekly schedule for these kids and any activities they claim are taking place on that day are not actually happening. If you plan to sign your child up for camp please don't look here. Try to get into a program offered by Burbank Parks and Rec. They communicate professionally and offer a great experience to kids. I definitely recommend this YMCA in Burbank area and I give them complete 5 stars . Their morning group exercise classes is incredible. They have the best instructors for cycling and Cardio dance and Pilates and Yoga. It's always super crowded in these classes which shows how popular they are. If I could give ZERO stars I would. I don't usually write bad reviews, but the YMCA Burbank still owes me $250. I had injured my knee, had to have surgery, then was in the process of healing and could not work out - and they KNEW this, but they continued to extract funds from my bank account, regardless. I chased them for almost two years - sent multiple emails - when I finally decided that it was fruitless, and I should just let my voice be heard. They are not trustworthy - I wonder how many seniors have died and they still continued to syphon funds from their accounts? Do NOT join - and definitely do not give them permission to take money from you. You won't get it back. I attended a pilates session as a guest visitor today and liked how the instructor, Liza provided instructions for the beginners and the regulars. I wish more sessions open up soon to fit my work schedule. So I just recently joined the gym end of November. I have gone for 7 days and then the gym closes without notice for remodeling. I am not sure when it will open again since I didn't even know when they would close. I have called many times and even emailed and have not heard anything. UPDATED 7/29/25 We withdrew our son after his first week of camp when we found out they had a total of around 3-4 field trips for the entire summer. Which is a far cry from the 1-2 they used to have per week. The communication platform for parents was changed and set up as a "we contact you, you don't contact us or others" style platform. It was initially open to all parents to comment and reach each other and the program counselors, but after many parents began complaining (swim lessons were an issue with instructors, the play space was not enough, and outside time that was available did not have much to do), they restricted us from reaching out. There was now no way for us as parents to reach the program during the day. Even the main Y didn't have a contact number, which was absurd. There was never a phone line given to us to reach the program, so the only option was to show up and hope someone was there to speak with. That was a safety issue for us. Parents aren't allowed on the premises anymore to walk their child into the room, or even see the areas the kids are in anymore, either, meaning the actual classroom. That's a flag for me as a parent. I want to see where my child will be during the day and what activities are available in that area as well. It took almost 6 weeks to receive our refund, with multiple reasons why it wasn't sent sooner. This program, while it may be a good change for some, is a real disappointment for those of us accustomed to what we knew the program had been. In response to the comment from the YMCA on my previous review, it's nice that you provide email contacts for those with issues, but it's not helpful when those emails go unanswered and no one responds back. Do better! My review is about the YMCA summer camp program. We've enrolled multiple kids for the last 7- 8 years. It was great to get my kids' summer planned well in advance, typically by mid-February. This facility used to be the first to list all their activities and begin sign-ups right around President's Day. They also used to notify previous campers and their families when the program was open for sign-ups--neither happened this year. Many families in our school circle didn't even know the Y summer camp was an issue this year and have chosen care with the Boys & Girls Club of Burbank or the Summer Daze Program through Park and Recreation. This year has been the worst process. Camp didn't enroll in February, it took till mid to last March, even April, if I recall, to get an enrollment date. Then the field trip schedule hasn't been posted to date. I've asked multiple times via email and telephone. Telephone messages to Sean (the new summer camp Director) go unreturned, and emails I kept being told another week or another week, and to keep checking back. The excuse each time was "due to the wildfires, we're experiencing a delay in registration or scheduling". So, I guess you're blindly signing your kid up, giving a nonrefundable deposit, and hoping for the best. The new takeover with the Metro YMCA has not been good. I don't know what the previous regime did wrong that the metro took over, but the organization of this group for the summer camp has so far been very disappointing. This used to be an easy sell-out program every year, and now it seems like they're barely floating above water to finish up a field trip schedule when Burbank schools are out in one week, and came behind shortly after. The summer camp programs for the young kids utilize the YMCA pools, which I'm hopeful have been improved since the last time we were there. I'm worried they're delaying the field trips so parents don't have enough time to cancel if they choose a refund, minus the deposit. I am happy to revise my review regarding the camp field trips when things get cleared up and communication begins again for those already registered. read more

I really enjoy this location, however, this review is specific to the water aerobics classes in the evenings. The pool is great and there is definitely a sense of community there. However, the instructor for the evening water aerobics class is subpar. I joined this gym specifically for the water aerobics due to back issues. On top of the fact that the class time has been reduced, she starts late and sometimes ends early, leaving class time to 30 min. I understand she is going through a hardship but often times, she loses track of count because she seems distracted and begins having what seems like a conversation with a non existent person. Meanwhile, we are all in the pool, going over count, staring at her. I am a very compassionate human being and I know people really like her on a personal level but between the time frame we are there and her distractions, it's not worth the time to go. I really wish they'd offer more classes or consider different instructor for at least one of the evening classes. I may have to cancel my membership since this is the main reason. I signed up. This establishment is clean friendly and welcoming. They encourage you to embrace your fitness goals and help you find the tools to better implement them on your road to wellness. Today I was greeted by the fabulous Jen, she was patient, informative and went above and beyond showing me websites with great information and gifting her personal experience and recommendations on products, classes and all this while greeting other members entering the facility (talk about multi tasking). The staff are warm and encouraging and they're there for you 100%. I've been to other gyms and they promise you the moon and don't deliver however this YMCA stand behind what they believe in, in fact they write it on their wall as a remembrance. I was also impressed to read they welcome diversity and disability. They open their doors to the LGBTQ community as well as any walks of life from Little children to Senior citizens. They truly are part of the community and they strive to be the best in my opinion and at this juncture they are the best. They are conscious about social distancing and please take note you do need to make an appointment if you want to use the pool and some classes. The team members are there to help you with a polite attitude and a contagious energetic demeanor. This gym is a safe judgment-free environment to start or continue your road to fitness and ultimate wellness. 5 stars all the way! read more

These classes regularly had more than 20 participants who now have had to find other gyms. I'm so happy I chose this place to start my health journey. They have a range of classes that help you in your fitness goals. I take a boot camp class here.... We all know how expensive boot camp classes are and I don't pay nothing more than my monthly fee. Elvia is a wonderful instructor she has a range of classes from cycling, hiit, and boot camp and she plans to add more. I list 9 pounds in a healthy manner. She's motivating and encourages you with words of encouragement. She also talks about the importance of eating to support your journey weather it be losing or gaining. She corrects posture and she gets to know her participants. If you need encouragement on your journey take her class.... She's great. This location works for me, I have no complaints besides having more fans upstairs in the cycle room read more

I have been a member of the Burbank YMCA since 1999. Yes changes have occurred over the years but they were all beneficial to the membership. Now this YMCA has merged with Metro LA. So, classes were downsized to only 45 minutes each. The YMCA was closed for 2 or 3 weeks in December and I was still charged for the full month (is that legal). The only thing I can see that was done was the floors were cleaned and a few walls were painted. Now you not only "sign in" to enter the YMCA which is understandable but you have to sign up for any classes you want to take. If you do that and miss 3 classes you are restricted from coming to the YMCA for 7 days. One of the best classes at the YMCA was the 30/30/30 class. 30 minutes of cardio, 30 minutes of strength training and 30 minutes of stretch. Nope that is gone and that was one of the most popular classes. Some instructors were kept and some were not. One of THE BEST instructors JoDee is no longer there. She did not want her classes limited to 45 minutes. How can you do a 30/30/30 in 45 minutes? I am not happy about this new YMCA and I know a lot of others who are not happy either. I've been coming to the ymca for 6 years with a 2 year break during lock down. The ONLY reason I came back and the ONLY reason I recommend the YMCA is the stay and play run by the incredible Miss Kitty. We started going to the ymca when my oldest son was 3 months old. Miss kitty looked after my son with such incredible care and she was sort of like a child care guru. It saved my mental health knowing there was somewhere I could go and leave my baby while working out. When everything shut down for covid I was devastated that we didn't get to see her anymore. Now that life is sort of back to normal we are back at the ymca with our youngest son and I am incredibly grateful that miss kitty will be part of his life. The gym itself is nothing fancy. But fully stocked. Go for the child care. Stay for the workout. read more

Today, I went to the Burbank YMCA to start up spinning again for the first time in about four years. To be honest, I was worried about the music being outdated and the instructor being boring. Let me tell you, Elvia's class shattered my expectations. I had a GREAT time. The music kept me going and it paired beautifully with Elvia's high energy check-ins and encouragements throughout the class. I promised myself that I would get back to working out and I have no doubt Elvia's classes will make it a whole lot easier. I think I got my spark back today. read more

The front desk staff are exceptionally helpful, kind and patient. The NEW corporation who has assumed management of 27 YMCA facilities in Los Angeles. There approach has been to conduct everything electronically. There is no personnel available to answer questions. Group classes are limited and offered at early morning hours when parents are trying to get their kids to school. Previous popular classes and instructors are gone. My first visit here and I love the energy of the front desk staff. They were very welcoming and professional. Being a part time YMCA employee myself--it's always fun going to other locations and checking out their facilities. This particular location has I believe 4 levels with the basketball court being on the top. I loved the fact that they had hammer strength machines. My favorite part of coming to the Y are Sarah's and Elvia's classes! I have been taking and loving Sarah's Zumba and total body fit classes for a while now and have recently started taking Elvia's HIIT and Spin classes too. They are both fantastic instructors and have helped, encouraged and motivated me so much! Elvia also has a new class targeting the lower body which I took for the first time and also loved! It was the perfect way to end my workout routine and so much fun! I love the wide range of classes that allow me to work on dance, do cardio,strength train and even focus on something as specific as my lower body! I hope they keep these classes forever! My only complaint is that Sarah's and Elvia's classes are so popular they need to invest in more fans/ventilation as the rooms get packed and it gets hot fast. read more

Ms. Kitty is the best!!! I have been taking my kids to her since they were babies. They both love her so much. She makes child watch a great time for them so I can focus on my workout. We went to the normal LA YMCA to save money for a year, and my kids revolted. They refused to go to the gym with me unless they got to Ms. Kitty's place. The Men's Restroom is ALWAYS CLEAN. That's right, it is not covered in FUNGUS, full of RUST, does not have PEELING PAINT or BROKEN BENCHES. Is this a joke? NO. The last YMCA I came from DID have those conditions. Please see my REVIEW for East Valley YMCA North Hollywood if you don't believe me. This Burbank YMCA actually cares about the health and safety of the customers and the service they get for their membership fees. So they clean the showers every day and keep things nice. Here is a quote from Taamu the Lead Manager on Duty: "Our facility is thoroughly cleaned throughout all work hours of the week including our closing hours to guarantee 100% cleanliness on all surfaces and group exercise rooms. We use disinfectants, mold cleaners, and routine maintenance procedures to clean and upkeep all areas of the facility." That's why I came here. At East Valley YMCA North Hollywood, they had 0% cleanliness and I got athletes foot and suffered. Now I am all better. Thank you Burbank YMCA. We started being charged different monthly fees since July. I have tried numerous times to reach out to them and no response at the phone or email address. We have now contacted our Bank and if we don't hear from the Burbank Y we will have to press charges. I've been going to this YMCA for about 4 months now, and I must say it has grown on me. Here are my reasons for loving it, plus some areas they can improve on... Love: 1. If you want a gym where it's not overly crowded like 24 hour fitness or planet fitness, the Y is a great option! I've never had to wait for a machine here. It does get crowded between 5:30-7pm, but that is normal and it's nothing like other large gym chains. It's also fairly easy to find parking. They even have a lot across the street if you can't find parking in the main lots. 2. For the price, you can get a lot of bang for your buck. There's a swimming/training pool, full locker rooms with sauna, 2 full rooms with classes such as Pilates, yoga, sculpting, etc., a cycling studio, cardio room and 2 weight rooms, and a basketball court. 3. The instructors (for group exercise classes) are great! I specifically like JoDee for cycling, Xochiti for piloxing, Karen for chisel, Kathy & Bonnie for Yoga. 4. When equipment is broken they are quick to fix them. 5. No judge zone! This gym is truly for all ages, body types, and levels. No "gym-timidation" here! Areas for improvement: 1. Not going to lie, this place has a mild smell (that you eventually get used to). Obviously it is a gym, but it's an old smell ingrained in the walls...I can't put my finger on it. It is obvious this place needs an update to some of the rooms and equipment. For instance the stretching/weight area in the cardio room could updates mats. That random blue mat in the center is old and ripped up. The locker rooms could use updating as well. 2. The layout!!!! The layout is terrible, you have to walk up and down the stairs to go from room to room. There are offices in between some rooms, and it's just a giant maze. It's so confusing as a new member...but I guess you get used to it. Plus, burning more calories right? 3. I wish they kept towels as an amenity. I understand they want to cut down electricity usage, but it was a nice feature and something very helpful for the members. The Glendale Y doesn't have this and so I definitely appreciated it here! I love the Y and have been coming for almost 3 years now. Miss Kitty is an angel in human form and I love her patience with the children and how she cares for them as if they are her very own I also love that she lets me know if any incidents happen with my child and I love that she is CPR certified like myself I feel safe leaving my child in Y play when Miss Kitty is there watching the children. Another thing I love about the Y is Sarah's Total Body Fit class, her Strength Interval class and her Strong Nation Class. I also enjoy JoDee's 30/30/30 class on Tuesday and Arielle's Fit Circuit class on Wednesday evening, Tom's Machine Circuit class on Monday and Friday at 11am and Tom's Functional Fitness class Wednesday at 8:30am because I get my weights in in those classes in terms of working out. What I don't like about the Y is the new young people that have been hired to care for the children in the evening they don't properly watch the children becauae most of the time they are on their cell phones and when the children are being unsafe and hurting other children they don't notify the parents thank God my child is old enough to tell me what goes on but also they are not CPR certified and they have no Child Development background / no units in Child Development, they seem as if they are just there for their paycheck and don't care about the children, they also aren't properly trained and the evening staff in Y play also have favorites in terms of children and instead of watching the other children they'll sit down on the bench and talk to the other adult staff in the room and not correct the children when they're hitting staff or other children and when the children are being inappropriate talking about penis's in front of the younger children they laugh instead of correcting them. Parents aren't supposed to stay in the room with the other children in Y play but the evening staff allow it and in a way I see why one parent stays in the room with her laptop while her 3 children are in Y play playing in the evening because the evening staff don't report incidents to the parent when a child gets hurt. That parent that stays in the room lets me know when she's coming and when I know she is going to be there then I'll come in the evening but if that parent isn't there then I won't come but yet that parent doesn't get paid to do that but she knows how the evening staff is and after her children got hurt she doesn't take chances especially since she witnessed one of the staff Ashley push a child but yet Ashley is still employed at the Y instead of being terminated, they moved her to the front to membership but that's insane and traumatic to the child and the family to the point that that parent no longer brings his child to the Y anymore. With the new changes some employees should be let go like Ashley for that reason of pushing a defenseless child and the cameras in Y play are present yet they don't work because when incidents happen and members aren't believed, members have asked for the Y play cameras to be looked at only to be told by Y staff that the cameras don't work. Also the digital carpet that Brandon had put in Y play was taken out. Brandon said he would fix it but then the whole thing was taken out completely hopefully they can bring another one or bring back the tire that the children used to play with in Y play because it's a fun workout for the children. In terms of the safety reasons that I mentioned of not qualified staff to work with children in the evening and the evening staff not being CPR certified for the safety of the children, as a parent I don't feel comfortable recommending the Burbank YMCA to my friends or strangers who are also parents that want to workout after work hopefully once the Burbank YMCA makes better changes and choices in terms of employment of the evening staff in Y play then I can feel comfortable once that happens, but for now to those reading this review that are parents if you want to go workout and you have a child go in the morning when Miss Kitty is there which is Monday thru Thursday from 8am to 12pm and on Saturdays Miss Kitty is there as well from 8am to 12pm she is CPR certified so if your child chokes she is properly trained and knows exactly what to do in the event that your child chokes and if there's a fire or etc she knows the evacuation protocol as well whereas if you are to ask any of the new hires they don't know what the evacuation procedure is, I asked the other staff what is the protocol when there was a earthquake a few months ago because I was concerned about mine and my child's safety and 90% of the staff didn't remember because they stopped doing the training for it for new hires since the pandemic. Thankfully Miss Kitty and a few other staff like Ricky and Stephen know but the other new staff that was hired to watch the childreshe also used to be teacher and graduated from UCLA so rest assured she has more than 12 units in Child Development. read more
