This is by far one of my most favorite coffee shops in Salt Lake. Sadly, I live on the other side of the valley and never get over to the shop anymore. Been coming in this place for almost 12 years now and it's consistent favorite. The pastries were good. I liked them. They didn't have them in a refrigerator cage, like some absolute troglodyte. The coffee is good, but we're really get me as their staff. They're really chill. They'll talk to you a little bit. They're friendly you know they don't look like they're hating their lives by being at work. It's the kind of people you used to see coffee shops all the time. I don't know what's happened the current generation they just don't appreciate the coffee culture. read more

My sister and I had some time to kill before we can check into our Airbnb. So we looked up coffee joints near us and Higher Ground popped up. They looked pretty legit so we went and checked them out. Walking in, this joint is really neat. There's coffee bags lining the ceiling. There's a couple old chairs that you can chill at in the corner surrounded by plants. The light was shining brightly through the windows. It has a very chill, easy vibe here. We got a couple drinks ordered and a CaBreezy panini started. I got myself an iced americano with sugar free vanilla and room for cream. My sister got a hot peppermint mocha. We chilled at the 2 big old chairs while our goodies were being prepared. My drink was so good! I did add a packet of Splenda and some cinnamon to my coffee, so tasty!! I appreciate that my americano wasn't watered down. I didn't get to try my sister's drink but she said it was really good! We did share the CaBreezy panini. It was delicious! It was balanced pesto, balsamic glaze and mozzarella. The tomato was fresh and ripe. The ciabatta was warm and crispy. I probably could have had another half but we are trying to save room for dinner. It was nice chillin here for a bit. Heard really great things about this coffee spot so had to check it out! It is pretty small inside but has a cute homey vibe. The barista was super nice and greeted us as "friends" which I thought was so friendly. My latte was hot and super good! The place got really busy throughout the time that I was there but it seemed like people didn't have to wait too long. There is a lot more seating outside so would be a good spot to go when it's warmer out too! read more

The coffee was really good, it tasted like a good flavored coffee. Not super bitter, and not watery. The milk ratios were spot on. (I don't like my lattes with more milk than coffee, but I don't like them to be almost black either. ) It could have used some more salted caramel syrup as I could not taste the actual flavor Sin mine. Other than that it was yummy. The coffee shop was cute! It had nice spaces inside to sit and a patio. They have a self service water dispenser and cups available. Visited Higher Ground Coffee on a whim and was impressed with the quick and friendly service. I waited less than 10 minutes in total from being in line to receiving my drinks which was great. This little coffee shop is nestled at the intersection of 2000 E & 3300 S in Millcreek. It's quaint and a bit eclectic inside so not ideal for larger groups, but there is a decent amount of seating outside. I ordered a basic iced coffee and it was solid enough for a pick me up but certainly not a best in class cup of coffee. My wife ordered the iced latte and enjoyed. They offer a number is sandwiches including vegan and vegetarian options. It's places like this that I wish Yelp would offer a half star because Higher Ground Coffee is better than most 4 star coffee shops but not quite elite. Parking is tight and very limited and there's no drive through. You need to time your visit just right or else you'll have to make a few loops around. Worth a visit if you're in Millcreek. read more

The chia tea is a milky sweet chia with little spice, but is still very tasty. The vanilla latte taste almost like a s'more with a "burnt" taste, it's not sweet but on the stronger espresso side. The bagel sandwich is good very temperate hot when you receive it fresh off the griddle. The egg sandwich lacks flavor in the eggs it's mostly the bread and cheese that you will taste. The environment is cute and cozy and you can tell a lot of locals enjoy the coffee shop. Everyone is so nice in the area. Overall a cute coffee shop that is good for the price. read more

Came here for the first time today! I like this coffee shop has a wide variety of food options that aren't just all pastries or bagels. I ended up getting the La Sal sandwich and it was perfect! I was going to get the apenglow but the server said something like " she sold out of eggs for the day" so I'm assuming after a certain time (I went right at 11am) they stop doing sandwiches with eggs in it. I got a hazelnut latte half sweet with regular milk. Nothing to rave about it was good overall. Service was good! Food and drink came out fairly quick! I think the cozy vibe of this spot is fun! I've passed by this place a bunch of times and finally stopped in. It's a tiny little eclectic, homey coffee shop nestled in Millcreek. I got an iced chai, which is my go-to and it was yummy. They use pebble ice which is my fave. I was hoping to possibly work remotely from their space, but it's very tiny and there wasn't much seating. There was one table that someone was working at, a bar with one stool (the other one is broken, I asked), and two chairs by a fireplace if I'm remembering correctly. I was bummed that I couldn't work from here, but it's just not the vibe of this place anyways. It's more of a grab and go place, I wouldn't go here to settle in for a while or catch up with a friend, because everyone in the space would hear your convo. They do have a small patio for when it's warmer. Glad I finally checked it out! read more

I started going here when Thai (sp?) and his then partner first took over the place. The partner was one of the world's greatest mountain climbers. He won international awards for his achievements. Unfortunately, I found out last year he perished in a snow storm I believe in Afghanistan traversing to the Himalayas. Thai is a wonderful guy and as things happen after years of not being a customer, I am about to regularly patronizing this coffee shop. It is very convenient to where I live, but for years inconvenient for me on the way to work and the hours I worked. Plus, frankly, while it is bargain compared to Starbucks and a local competitor, Beans and Brews, the coffee is not quite the same level. The main reason I have not given it a higher rating although I am inclined to do so as I like the owner is that most of the women that work there are quite unfriendly to me. I am older that the vast majority of the clientele. I am friendly and courteous to them. read more

Been here a few times and the drinks are always fantastic. My favorite has been the matcha latte with lavender syrup, my cousin said it tastes like fruity pebbles and that's a perfect description! Personal experience: such a beautiful coffee shop! I loved how small and well organized this spot is! And such an amazing place for it. But please do keep in mind that there is minimum sitting inside! I wouldn't recommend if you're coming here to do some work because that does take up all the space there but would totally recommend for those 1on1 conversations here! Drinks: I absolutely loved the Macha with one shot of espresso! And they have reasonable prices! a friend grabbed a small coffee and plus my Macha with Espresso all for 8$ plus tip it was around 11$ I cannot complain on this spot! Service: was great! I didn't take a lot of pictures here because there were quite a few people there, but this place is adorable! The inside is small, but still has sitting for 4-6 people, including very comfortable-looking armchairs. It also has outside sitting on two sides of the building. The coffee I got was really good, and they do have a variety of pastries and hot breakfasts. The price was lower than in other shops, which is greatly appreciated by a black coffee drinker like myself. Service was quick and friendly. The Chai Chiller is actually so good. I used to come here in middle school, almost every day after class I'd stop in for that or a Mocha Chiller and now 5-6 years later I'm still hooked. We have been going to Higher Grounds for a long time. We would be termed "regulars". We like the coffee, pastries and sandwiches. Most of the staff is nice but one of the baristas, M....n, is civil but often very short and rude to us when we come in. It's interesting that we watch her being really sweet and chatty with others, but not with us. We try being friendly with her and get one word responses, The most we usually get is "do you want your usual"? My wife always gets a non-fat flavored latte. When she asks if we want our usual, we always say yes, the nonfat flavored latte. She makes a regular latte (with whole milk). My wife will typically say that it's not worth going back and making it over. She doesn't listen to us. We are older, and maybe we remind her of someone she doesn't like. This place is close and even within walking distance from our house, but I think we will look for another place to get our coffee in the morning and just go there in the afternoon when M...n is not there, as the rest of the staff are usually polite and respectful. read more

Living close to this coffee shop is an absolute treat. The baristas are always sweet and enthusiastic, which must be a hard energy to maintain when surrounded by grouchy customers prior to caffeine. The coffee is quick and consistent- the lattes are great and the iced and drip coffee never disappoints. (Pebbled ice too) The breakfast sandwiches are always fresh; never frozen like the stupid Starbucks or chain coffee shops microwave for you. You may have the wait for them to prepare your sandwich, but that's never worth complaining about. The pastries are delicious and I personally love the cinnamon roll because the icing is unique and buttery. The atmosphere is relaxing and eclectic. I stop here most mornings to get a 16oz drip coffee to take with me on my walk. The baristas are just great and sometimes will have coffee already poured when I get to the counter. The place itself is not big but it does have big patio. It has a cool offbeat vibe but without the pretentiousness. Check 'em out.
