Really great. This place should not be called Inn At…read moreTwaalfskill. It should be called The Nancy Show. I say that in the most respectful way and only mean to say that I'm guessing the whole shebang would be next to nothing without her touch, her oversight and her attention to detail. The detail in the rooms, the perfection at breakfast, the lovingly manicured grounds, assorted wonderful nooks... at first I was wondering what there is to DO in Highland and, to be honest, I'm still not sure... but given the bike path, beautiful scenery and Inn At Twaalfkill, I'm not sure what else you need. I'm not always a fan of B and Bs... they can tend to be a little twee and you feel like you have to tiptoe around... partially because the walls in a good hotel are much thicker, the spaces less cramped, your anonymity more protected. There may be a bit of that tip-toeing here (the floors are pretty squeaky and you are worried that you are making too much noise for someone on a different sleeping schedule) but that is the only downside. We had just spent two nights in a pretty nice hotel in Beacon. The room was over 50% more expensive than here and, while large enough, there was not one square foot of horizontal space to put anything down in the bathroom.... The room at Inn at Twaalfill had so much guest-friendly space (especially in the bathroom), you would not likely have a use for all of it. If all B&Bs were this great and this price, I would never stay anywhere else.

Breakfast is a culinary delight of the senses. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The common areas welcome you to sit in the sunroom, by the fire, or in a private outdoor nook to read, have a drink, or watch a thunderstorm or some softly falling snow. Tea, water, Nespresso, and coffee are always available along with some delectable baked delight. Nancy is always full of great ideas for things to do and places to eat. A walk or bike on the nearby rail trail to the river is always beautiful. This is our place to reset, recharge, and relax.

Complimentary breakfast is just ok, but it is something to eat. My primary complaint is that we paid weekend rates and our room was never serviced. Got back from a long day out sightseeing to dirty towels, unmade bed etc. I had to go to the front desk to ask for clean towels. I wasn't able to reach the front desk via phone, it just rang busy. I also realize the screaming kids next door weren't their fault but I couldn't call the desk to complain. Not sure we will stay here again without a compelling reason.

We had two rooms and although the price was very affordable, the service was priceless. I would like to thank all of the staff for their friendly, hospitable and professional service. The manager Shawnte is doing an amazing job representing this establishment and the employees I am certain, are making her very proud. Shantel and Natasha should also be recognized for their hard work and dedication to their guests. They were extremely pleasant and accommodating. My family travels quite a bit and we have stayed at many hotels over the years. I have to say, no other place have rivaled this short be calming experience. It's difficult in these times when you have to go away with your family, not knowing what to expect when you arrive at your destination. I have to say that staying at this hotel has given us hope, that perhaps there are more people and places out there that understand the importance of having a safe and pleasant experience, to let your guard down and exhale if just for a moment. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to our return in the near future.

I recently stayed at the Inn. (8/25 - 8/28/2026) If I had known the owner was having breakfast with…read moreme, I would have raised the following issues then. (As the owner, it would have been appropriate for him to introduce himself, as I was the only guest there. And ask how everything is. But I know why he didn't. He is likely tired of hearing complaints.) My first sign of discomfort was the musty smell in the entryway. I found my welcome packet on the desk with my first and last name and room displayed on the front. I saw another guest's packet there too; having my information displayed that way was a bit unnerving, especially as a solo female traveler. (Perhaps assign each guest a code and only write that on the envelope.) As I walked to the room, the hallway was completely dark, so I used my cell phone flashlight to find my way. My room (Sage Left) was "quaint."Despite the fake fingernail found on the ledge behind the hand towel, the clump of black hair in the shower, the body hair on the toilet, and the bed that felt like rocks. But I was determined to make the best of things. I tried to open the door to the outdoor area; I tried to. I had to pull weeds away from it first. I sat down on the red lounge chair and looked out at overgrown bushes and weeds. I took in the rest of the space and saw propane containers stored under plants. Since the restaurant isn't open until Friday, I had to eat lunch and dinner off-site. I also bought bottles of water since there weren't any in the room and the water cooler jug was empty during my stay. (If an alternate water source was available, I did not see one.) Using the TV was frustrating, and I gave up. I took a walk on the grounds and was astonished at how neglected everything is. Dead plants, weeds, and broken path stones were everywhere. The outdoor furniture is either rusted or needs power washing. The overall feeling is gloomy. I had to leave the premises on Wednesday because it was incredibly depressing. (Think "Grey Gardens") Thursday morning, I was quite down about my experience, and it was affecting me physically. At breakfast, Alicia, the breakfast chef, noticed my discomfort; she listened to some of my issues and explained that only a skeleton crew is trying to keep the Inn going. (She is a true gem, by the way.) My spa services were good. Despite the loud noise coming from the water pipe, I found the "temporary" spa nice. I only wish it were open before Thursday. I called Buttermilk to cancel 2 days before check-in, but I made my reservation through Expedia, and I couldn't cancel or modify my booking under their policy. I also contacted them on the day of my arrival. They misrepresented the property: the "river view" room I booked, the claim that there is afternoon tea, bottles of water in the room, and that the on-site restaurant is open during the week. Do not be fooled by the pictures on their website or social media. They are years old and mostly professional photographs with lighting, flowers, and decorations for special events.

So they gave us a two queen non smoking which was fine. After reading some of the reviews I got concerned to check for BED BUGS and sure enough we found one under the bed as well as candy wrappers and HUGE stains on the side of the bed frame. If this wasn't bad enough there were stains on the bed sheets. I went downstairs to ask to be moved to another room and the concierge said he only had smoking available. It was upsetting to me that he would suggest that because upon check in he specifically told me "I wouldn't recommended the smoking room for you if you aren't a habitual smoker". Sure enough I checked the smoking room and I absolutely could not sleep in that type of environment and it was also disgusting. I was not given a refund for this inconvenience and ended up driving 3 hours back home because there were no other options. I plan to fight this and received a refund because this is completely unacceptable!!!!!!!

There was a pool table in the lobby which my son and his friends liked. They sold wine and beer from the check-in desk which seemed odd. They made a mistake in our reservation so can't give 5 stars. Basic place to rest your head.
