Those with whom we were in most direct contact were largely folks having roots in New Paltz , and this really enhanced my genuine pleasure in dealing with them . In all honesty , Margaret and Kenny at the front desk became instant friends , great " listeners " providing a warm welcome on my return to the Shawangunk Mountains after a long hiatus . As we took care of our room ourselves , wanting total privacy on our romantic getaway , we had little contact with cleaning staff , but our room was immaculate , as were the hallways, elevators , and lobby . However, providing basic English lessons to the cleaning staff in some manner would not be a bad thing ....... Having come to camp or hike in these mountains 30 + times from 1974 to 2013 , the lack of decent lodging off I 87 had become a bit of a mystery to me , but at 71, there will be no more lengthy breaks in my visits now ........ Although parking in front is a little constricted because of the necessity of conforming to the boundaries of the lovely, park-like historic cemetery the inn fronts , there is ample parking in back , which few use . ......... My main recommendation is one I can make to every inn with free breakfasts : No backpacks or shoulder luggage in the somewhat constricted dining area ! We keep our hiking gear in the room until ready to leave for the day ; it's simply a matter of common courtesy , and how long could it possibly take to return to one's room ? ........ But again, I instantly fell in love with this place, and look forward to a return in September or October ............

The parking lot was gravel-based, so vehicles were parked a bit haphazardly, but the lot's spaciousness ensured that it was not really an issue. The hotel was right on the stream with a lovely grassy area dotted with Adirondack chairs, hammocks, and other ways to enjoy the view. The office was located right next to that little park and was also where the continental buffet breakfast was served. The small room had a great view of the water from its few tables. The breakfast options included various hot beverages, several types of milk, yogurt, berries, granola, pastries, breads, hard-boiled eggs, lox, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. It was really the perfect few bites to start the day with energy and wellness. While the inn had a few larger cabins, many of the rooms were supposedly rather tiny, including ours. The room had a queen-sized bed, nightstand, wall-mounted television, and wooden desk with matching chair. There was a closet with some hanging and shelving space, as well as a hair dryer and coffeemaker. The room really left a lot to be desired from a space perspective, as it was hard to navigate. For instance, the room might have come with 2 luggage racks, but there was really only space for one. The bathroom was also tiny, and it was near impossible to use the toilet without sideswiping the pedestal sink on your way. The shower was a decent size at least. The bathroom came with fluffy towels and Aveda products, which were both appreciated. We also loved that the temperature and pressure of the water were phenomenal; in fact, the shower was like a fire hose! Though the room was small, it was SPOTLESS! Also, its individual heater packed a great deal of warmth. There was not an abundance of electrical outlets, but the alarm clock had one built in, as well as two USB ports. The extremely gracious staff had also left a binder of local recommendations for us on the table. The bed, however, was lumpy, and the pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. From a location standpoint, the inn was only a few blocks from either end of town, depending on which way you wanted to travel. The residential roads were very dark at night and many did not have sidewalks, so we definitely needed to be alert walking to and from the main drag, even though we knew the town was overly safe. The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream made up for its lack of amenities and small rooms with efficient, friendly service and clear dedication to guest satisfaction.

Although breakfast is no longer offered as part of the room rate, we were "grandfathered in" by the super amenable, welcoming head chef, who, in large part, is the engine behind the hotel's managing group, because our room had been booked when the breakfast plan was still in existence. Our breakfasts were presented beautifully & by servers who were super friendly & engaging, as is the rest of the staff here. The pool had not yet been filled for the summer, so we enjoyed sunning on the pool deck, the sweet sauna, walks to the lake down below the property, played shuffleboard, billiards in the way-downstairs which has stone walls, low ceilings, a wine closet, board games & game table, as well as darts. The first floor library is cozy, filled with couches, upholstered chairs, books, coloring books & colored pencils & the in-house restaurant offers 3 meals a day, either in the beautifully outfitted & sunny dining room or on the back patio, alongside a rain barrel, herb garden, smoke house, fire pit & the grassy lawns. The owners & the hotel's hospitality group are working on upgrading & updating the facilities & its offerings & we applaud them for their efforts & plans. (I did end up sitting out there after offering to just order something, the hostess relented.) ?? so odd. but other than this, the hotel and entire staff, including front desk, housekeeping, restaurant, drivers of the shuttle to train, and spa, (other than the "manager") are very nice and the customer service is outstanding. One other note, they should let the front door valets wear a more modern uniform (currently a long sleeve shirt, tie, vest, black pants and shoes). just wear golf shirts and nice khakis--much more effective uniform on 80 degree days.

It also had a nice little kitchenette with a closer to full size fridge than you normally get in hotels. It als had a small seating area with a sofa and desk. Both of which came in handy for hotel working. It was clean and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay (including Starbucks coffee and Coffee-mate liquid creamer in the room!). Get to it!

On the walls are old posters from what I think was a cement company? Not sure if these were part of the wedding or part of the venue... Throughout the venue are awesome glass wall sconces, which I'm sure were created when it was a glassblowing studio. The same for the little glass circles in the cement at the entrance to kitchen. Petra and Louis were very friendly. They had a cocktail hour in the little park behind the venue and we had arrived early. I had to go to the bathroom, and despite the rule that you had to go around front, they could tell I had to go and they let me go in through the kitchen. :) Overall, I would describe it as "unique and intimate."
