We recently moved and used Highland because I used them a few years ago and was pretty happy. This time, we had 2 households on opposite ends (west & south) of the city to consolidate into another side of the city (east). Calling into the office for quotes was a painless process and we received pricing & a date promptly. They take a $250 deposit per move. *my one point here that I wish was differently was that we could have combined our moves into 1 move, but was told to do it in 2 moves - so that ended up costing us more in the end* The day before the move, we received email confirmation of pick up times etc. My movers were actually about 15 mins early, but that gave them an opportunity to all come in, introduce themselves (Paul, Darren & Roberto) and do a walk around the house/receive instructions. They were all super friendly professional. *Turns out that Paul was the one who did my move a few years ago!* Before they started they laid down runners and mats to not dirty the house. They had blankets and packing supplies ready to ensure my belongings were handled with care. Our other move was the next day with Kenny & Clarence and again, super friendly, super professional. This was in a condo where we had to use an elevator to move things in and out, but they were efficient with loading/unloading the best way to make use of space and time. Highland charges for travel to/from the truck yard and actual time spent moving. They will disassemble and reassemble beds if you want them to. They bring wardrobe boxes and pack up your items hanging in your closets for you (complimentary). They really do everything to make it as stress free for you as possible. They took a lunch before getting to the new house (they don't charge you for those 30 mins) but let you know when they were leaving/coming back. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about the movers - I super appreciated them and how hard they worked all day. Once complete, you pay before they leave and everything was a seamless transaction. I've used them several times now and have also recommended them to others - and we've all been satisfied with the service. I think pricing is comparable to other moving companies. From what I understand Highland's policy is to contract out different teams and they each get assigned one job per day - so your experience may vary depending on who your movers are. read more

We recently moved from Edmonton to Kelowna. The person who gave us the estimate sounded very knowledgeable. All questions asked were answered professionally. We asked for 2 quotes: A) we do all the packing and B) they pack for us. But apparently there is a third price, when it is partially pack by the owner PBO, the remains packed by the movers will be charged at A DIFFERENT RATE which we were unaware of. Due to staging and quick completion, we packed most of the furniture and clothing ourselves. We went to Highland to buy some moving boxes. We informed them our plan of doing most of the packing ourselves. But not once were we informed about the different pricing. First day, we had 1 person came over to pack. Second day we had 3-4 people. Just the packing itself took 3 days total. I can not imagine what the packing will be like if we had not already packed 85 percent of the boxes. I would say very poor management on resources allocation. On the actual moving day, either the project director or the sales person was suppose to come. They were there to make sure it is a stress less move for there customer; but neither one showed up nor can I reach the salesperson by phone to ask. For those who had moving experience will know that customer have to pay before the movers will unload your boxes. We paid within a few hours after reviewing the invoice. On the day of delivery, the project director called and alleged the company had miscalculated our bill and we need to pay close to $1000 dollar more. But by then, the movers are already at the door and we need to focus on the movers and direct where to place the boxes. The GM of the company called again immediately in regards to the miscalculated invoice. I said the movers had arrived and it is a very bad time to discuss the revised invoice. Let me call back tomorrow. But the tone of voice indicated the only concern they have is to recover the $1000 mistake they made. We have unpacked all the boxes now and found 2 vases missing plus some either small items. Fortunately, they are not valuable but these items were bought from different parts of world. Certainly, I have poor experience with this company and will definitely not use them again. For anyone planning on moving in the future, make sure you ask the questions below: 1) how many different methods of charging? and how come charging method can change without notifying the customer. 2) how many movers are packing and for moving 3) how they mark the boxes and the system to check them . I will try to keep this short, simple and fair. Highlands moving responded quickly to my inquiry, we set a date for the next day. The movers price themselved, from leaving their office to your home and time to return after the job is completed. So - I got a call at 9:20am moving day saying that the movers had been assigned the wrong truck, then the truck they got had problems then further explained, how it was cleared up and they were on their way. Leaving time 9:20am. The movers were careful, very thorough with moving. A great point there. Then at 12:45pm they were done, an estimated 30 minute return to office would be total: 4hrs and 5 minutes, rounded to 4.25hrs (generously) total. BUT NO....they charged for time to call in and process payment (15mins). That is an office administrative task, how am I being billed for being billed? NEXT: We gifted the movers some expensive items, and that took time to move, for their benefit but we got charged for their moving time gifting them that? NEXT the mover explained that they got in the office at 8:00am and were ready to go at 8:30am and could charge us for that! So you show up to your job, your employer pays you to show up, but now we could have been on the hook for that?! So, he started his clock at 9:00am, perhaps he thought I should feel grateful he didn't ding me more?! So, cost wise this place over charges and is quite subjective and would get a 1-2 star, but the thoroughness and movers abilities got the extra star. Overall, an ok moving experience, BUT be prepared to be soaked $ wise. read more

I recently moved from Edmonton to Toronto, and my mover contracted Highland Moving to do the packing of my stuff. The two people who showed up were friendly and professional. There was apparently supposed to be a third person, but they didn't show, which meant that packing took longer than they had planned for. One of the packers (Mel maybe? Highland, give that woman a raise) was a MACHINE. Her partner seemed new, and was slow and not really comfortable packing more breakable things, and so she packed my entire kitchen (including many many pieces of heirloom stemware and china) herself. They were clearly focused on everything making it safely, so unpacking on the other end took a long time on account of all the packing paper. But, with the exception of one small ornament that lost a leg, everything in my 70+ boxes made it in one piece (including a china set, 24 china teacups, and a zillion pieces of stemware). Ask for a list of things they won't pack in advance. I ended up with a few food items, aerosols, and coins leftover. But, overall they made a stressful move a little smoother :) read more

If I could give them 0 star, I would! The Worst move ever! will never use them again, nor would I recommend them to my worst enemy! That's how horrible the move was and how miserable I felt with what they did to me! Dear reader, I invite you to read what happened to me, and you decide for yourself if you wanna use them for your move. I was moving from Edmonton to Washington DC, as a single girl, and I was freaking out with the move, so I reached this company. They sent an estimator. She was smiling and kept saying we take everything we move everything! 1- the first down point, she never mentioned for a Canada-US move they were not allowed to take any liquid! so on the moving day I was left with a crazy amount of liquid! which I didn't know what to do with it! When I reached the management! they never accepted their responsibility! they said oooh I haven't listened! and I haven't read the brochure! (it is all my fault!) can you believe it?! and ooh by the way the estimator was so off! she estimated 500 pounds more! they told me my stuff is close to 2000 pounds! guess what it was only 1500 pounds! such a ridiculous estimation!!! really? is this how accurate you are??? 2- I had to purchase an extra luggage because of their mistakes! and put all those extras in that luggage! so if it was not for my first class ticket I would have been charged $200 for that luggage! for the mistake and misinformation that to this date they haven't accepted the responsibility neither they have apologized for it! 3- my moving date from edmonton was April 13, and my stuff was delivered with one day delay and so much wait on may 9! (when I confronted why it has been this long they told me I should be thankful they didn't charge me extra for the weekend delivery!!!!!) really? is this a customer service? 4- the truck driver forced me to pay before they empty the truck!!! now this is the worst of the worst, and I burst into tears now! it just reminds of a very painful time! he forced me to pay the full amount which was $300 more than I had agreed to! again I was forced to pay, otherwise he wouldn't unload the truck! he came 30 min early and kept complaining about why he can't finish unloading! and that he is in hurry! exactly when he charged me the hefty money, I asked him about unpacking! and he said! oooh no I am not unpacking, and he said I haven't paid for it!!! I got mad and I said hey it is in the paper!!! he said oooh welll I am not unpacking, you should wait until Tuesday!!!! when I contacted the office in Edmonton!, they said they have made a mistake! they know how to charge you!!! but they can't arrange or inform the driver for unpacking!!!!! so so unprofessional Can you believe it? You can imagine how frustrated I was, not only I have been treated with disrespect, but now I was left with thirty something big boxes and some furniture in my apartment! they had come and gone with their dirty shoes! and made a mess in my apartment, worse than that one of them used my bathroom, and I don't wanna talk about the mess after that!!! I am a petite girl and the whole idea of hiring a moving company to do the move for me was to have a hassle free move, not to through the physical, and emotional torture I went through! I was supposed to be at work the following week! they were talking about time arrangement as if I had all the time in the world! and they are entitle to tell me what to do! I asked a manager to contact me! she was even worse, they kept referring me back and forth to here and there , and whoever I was talking to was telling me " it is none of their business! you have been charged at the origin" and " the origin" which are these folks were refusing to take care of the issue! on top of all of that the small bookcase was totally damaged to the point I had to throw it out! and my drawer base is broken! which I had to change that one also!!!! The damage is also not being taken care of! apparently nothing is this companies business once they charge your credit card!!!!!!! it took me two months to take $200 back out of $5000. I never heard about any apology! or any compensation! regarding the torture they had given me! it took me until end of June to be able to have a place to call it home! my place was a mess and I became depressed! on top of that I injured myself due to moving and opening these heavy boxes! I am still seeking physical therapy! They pretend to be nice, however the rate they give you is way higher than other companies, and once a problem like this happens they really will not respond respectfully! once they charge you, and their business is over, all of a sudden they become rude, entitled and they put the blame on you!!! So much about customer service! I wish I had never chosen this company for moving, they made the first two months of my stay here a complete hell! so so so unprofessional! I hired this company to move me about a 20 minute drive from my old house. They arrived reeking of pot, and were fast enough to load their truck at least. Of course they played bad rap music out loud on their phones as they did it... and I don't understand this culture that has never heard of ear phones before. They are these tiny things that fit into your ears and no one else can hear what you are listening to. You can buy them on amazon or at the apple store. They took an extra 45 minutes to get to my new place. While I was waiting I basically stood in place because I had no furniture to sit on yet. Just stood there like a creepy garden gnome. They unloaded half the truck and disappeared for a half hour. I was distracted and hadn't seen them in a bit, so I went out to the truck and there they were sitting around and folding blankets. ? Oh, I didn't realize that I was paying for them to do their clean up after the move. They refused to unload more of the truck until they had cleaned the truck, so I had to personally move my belongings off the truck. They finished some bigger pieces, and then proceeded to charge me for more than 2 extra hours. Because I didnt' read the "fine print" on the contract I was paying for travel time to and from their office as well... their long lunch and their blanket break in the truck. They had told me this was their only job that day, and I had a gut feeling they would draw it out as long as possible... and they did. When my back was turned they started setting up my TV and I was like, ok no, I didn't hire you for that just move the boxes off the truck and put them in the house. Head office told me that the movers wouldn't leave my residence until I had paid for the extra time even though they had taken advantage of me. And they weren't nice about it either. The movers themselves pretended they were first day on the job and didn't know how to fill out paperwork or visa slips. So, my advice... don't hire these guys. It was more than $800 to move me ($200 more than my quote) and they definitely take advantage of women alone... no doubt in my mind that if this were a man they wouldn't have acted like such tards and have done a faster job. read more

I cannot express enough my frustration, shock and disappointment with this company. After a move (complete with profanity spewing movers who were 2 hours late and then begging me to not 'tell their boss' because they needed the job) to storage for two years, to another long distance move, it has been a complete disaster. They didn't ship out some of my stuff, sent items that literally did not belong to me at all (which begs the question- where did they come from?) to damaging other items and shipping items that were supposed to remain in storage, it was a epic display of ineptitude and incompetence. Despite booking weeks in advance, on the day of the move itself I had no clue when they were showing up. When they finally did at 4pm, I was told that they only 'found out that morning' and were 'scrambling'. It's been three weeks since my move, and I have followed up everyday- and I still have no clue where the rest of my belongings are. No one is answering me. We moved from Canada to the USA. Highland was by far the most responsive moving company we contacted. We liked that they do cross-training, so no one ever passed the buck on us. Mitch, our driver, did an amazing job with our international move. He carefully documented all of our items and checked to make sure everything arrived safely at our end. He kept us informed about his progress at the border and along the way. Nicole, our main office contact, provided us with excellent advice and guidance. Our total costs came to less than what we expected to pay. Love you guys, especially Mitch and Nicole. read more

Terrible experience. 1) Forgot stuff at our house, which we had to have shipped separately. 2) Damaged a bunch of our stuff, including family heirlooms and my relatively new big screen TV (completely broke it). 3) Didn't unpack our boxes, which we had paid for, and tracked in a bunch of crap all over the floor, and 4) we had to fight with them for every penny to resolve the above issues. On the last Saturday for shopping before Xmas Eve, one of their moving trucks parked the wrong way on 105 St and 97 Ave, just before the intersection. There were no hazard lights and pylons, even though traffic was extremely busy. This was both rude and extremely dangerous, and hopefully did not cause any accidents. read more

When we decided to use a moving company for the first time I was excited that we going to save ourselves a bundle of work and thankful for this gift from my in laws. The unfortunate reality was thousands of dollars our personal belongings were damaged. Beyond that the workers complained about the number of boxes and the time is was taking to complete the move. Once in our new home an employee began asking how expensive our new home was, overall an uncomfortable question to be asked. The day started out great and went completely downhill. Further downhill when trying to recover even a portion of our damaged items. I was bounced around from person to person with the promise of a conclusion to our claim, which they decided that 54.00 would cover the cost of a 55 inch tv, a 20 inch tv, a chandelier in our new home, and a fireplace tv stand given to us by my father in law who recently passed away that was completely shattered from one of the employees who was running backwards and fell. All and all this was probably one of the worst decisions we made to use highland moving company. I had hoped to hear something back from someone who worked for the company but promise after promise no one has reached to us. They were very accommodating when we booked and from then on completely disrespectful of our thing our time and took advantage of us. I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

One of the team members was at our house early as he lived nearby so we gave him a quick tour of the house. When the rest of the team showed up he filled them in, they backed up the truck to our side gate, then hit the ground running. Along with a few well-deserved breaks, they got the job done in ten hours. They were polite, they let us know that when they took breaks they wouldn't charge us, they took extra care of padding items with glass and everything was moved with care and attention. All of them were pleasant to deal with and we enjoyed the brief conversations we had with them as well. No issues at all. read more

We had to do our own estimate and (big surprise) we got it wrong. Highland Moving couldn't be bothered to send out an estimator so our bill was double of what was estimated. Would not recommend this system! The packers only packed about half our stuff. We had to do our own packing the next day as the loaders were loading the truck. The truck couldn't take all of our stuff and had to come back a few days later (after the new owners had moved in). Haven't received my stuff yet so we will see what shape it is delivered in and if I even get everything. read more

This company has the worst post customer service. They underestimated their hours, they broke items, they scuffed walls, they put boxes in wrong places. The bill was outrageous! They have not provided any compensation for the breakages and damage and have not returned my calls. I had an absolutely horrible experience with Highland Moving in Edmonton. First of all, the move took significantly longer than it should have. There were 4 movers and it seemed that one of them spent the majority of the time packing things properly in the truck while the others stood around. They complained constantly about how hot it was, the amount of stairs, etc. They "misplaced" a cushion to an armchair of mine and it took literally weeks to locate it and get it back to me. I was overcharged, which was fixed but no one every really apologized for the inconveniences I had experienced. Then there was the damage to my property and my furniture. They didn't wrap my sofas so one ended up completely filthy and they refused to have it cleaned. A beautiful walnut bar cabinet that I adore had a huge chip in one of the legs and there were several chips to my hardwood floor and the drywall in my home. Like C.B. because I had signed off on the release, which the gentleman had me sign BEFORE the move was even complete, they refused to fix any of the issues. They do not provide you with the opportunity to walk through your entire house and inspect every inch of your property and your furniture and then refuse to compensate you for damage done. Seems like a big scam to me. I have moved many, many times and this was by far the most expensive and worst service I have ever received. If I could give 0 stars, I would. read more

I have used Highland Moving to pack, store, and move small and large jobs. I always go back to them and would do so again. I find their skill, efficiency, and customer service to be above average. In particular, my possessions have always been extremely well packed...I do not look after my things as well as they do. I recommend this company to friends and family members. read more

We had moved most of our smaller items and boxes before Highland Moving arrived. On moving day, the guys showed up on time and were all ready to go. They were polite and very courteous, completed the transfer of our household to our new residence in good time. In the process, THEY broke two items. One was a small glass door on a display cabinet... No big deal, I can have that remade at almost any reputable glass shop. The other broken item was our 40" LED smart TV. The guys took note of what was broken, admitted to breaking it, and apologized. They said their "claims" department would be in touch. As it turns out, because we didn't buy their replacement insurance (the cost of which seemed exhorbitant) they only pay "by the pound" at $0.30/lb, bringing the total to about $82. We hired Highland thinking they were a reputable company who would take responsibility for any damage THEIR people CAUSED. Because we had a short move (10 minutes driving time), we believed their "extra" insurance would be used to indemnify them should anything BEYOND THEIR CONTROL be the cause for damaging our property. Unfortunately, they obviously take NO responsibility for their employees carelessness and we are out several hundred dollars. I would NOT recommend them for this reason alone. read more
