I was completely shocked and disgusted when he said he wouldn't take the job because he dosent think it would enough money. That he has a minimum of 40k to do a job. Then told me to give him a call next year when I have the more expensive job to do. Keep in mind, he didn't even come out to look at my house... which is 4000 finished square feet with 4 large full bathrooms with double sinks! I have received two other bids and we definitely would have met his "minimum". I also let him know, I would never hire him for my kitchen, way too arrogant to come into my home.

I was slightly hesitant to use a company that didn't have much of an internet presence, however I know that homegrown businesses are generally cheaper because they have less overhead. I sent Luis a message here on Yelp and he responded relatively quickly with an estimate (which he stuck to even with some slight modifications to the project during the work). Few days later and he was here with his crew on a Saturday and ready to roll. The project took them a few hours, and Luis had to make a couple trips to Home Depot during the job. The entire time they were here, they were very professional and respectful of my property. They used wood and metal to cover up the pipes, and everything was measured perfectly, and his "finisher" came to the house to repaint them to match the textured paint on the existing basement wall. I have to say it came out looking better than I could have imagined. They cleaned up after themselves pretty well and Luis was very nice to talk to. I wouldn't hesitate to use Luis again for a construction job. He does quality work and stuck to his initial estimate.

The principal team at Original Roots - Paul, Matt, and Brynn - were fantastic to work with. They were extremely experienced, trustworthy, thorough, patient, and were exactly what I was hoping for in a contractor relationship. That can also be said for their carpenters and other sub-contractors. They are all just good people. The project took about a year from our initial consultation to final completion. The actual construction phase was about 4-1/2 months and everything went as scheduled. Matt is a mastermind at getting all of the work scheduled, including permits and inspections; and Brynn kept everything on track with getting products ordered on time. During the initial consultation, Paul explained the process and provided a long list of past projects as references. I spoke with 4 of the prior clients and everyone was extremely pleased with Original Roots. From a cost perspective, there is full transparency from start to finish and no scope increase unless requested - or necessary due to items that could not be foreseen until all of the old walls were down. I did have some initial sticker shock over the contract price, but after getting several other bids for the project, I realized that Original Roots was in alignment with local costs for the same type of full-service renovation. This company showed great pride of workmanship and took care of my space during the project. It felt like moving into a new house when the project was finished. They stand behind their work and do not finalize the close-out payment until everything is perfect. I highly recommend Original Roots and can't wait to do another project. I've had contractors before start on a project and then halfway through tell me the job is too difficult and they can't continue....I'm quite positive there is a special place in hell for people like that. Creative Remodeling however is the absolute BEST contractors I have ever hired. They came out the same week we requested a quote and they had that quote back to us in 2 days, complete with a 6-page write up of every little expense. The owner of the company personally came over to our house and went over every little detail on the invoice, which I thought was pretty damn professional. Our back porch, aside from the painting, was completed by just one man too. I was pretty apprehensive about this at first, but oh man, John was just about the coolest guy a person could ever ask for to work on their house. Picture if you will a man with a long gray ponytail down to his waist, wearing cut off t-shirts with Harley Davidson emblems on them, wrangler jeans, 6 piercings in each ear and the personality of a baby kitten. He was a sweetheart, not to mention extremely talented. He thought of doing things to our back porch I'd never even thought of (that sounded kind of dirty now that I reread that sentence, but enough with the double entendres). I could just ramble on and on about how wonderful this place is, really I could.
