They then hacked through that electrical box and told us it was our fault because it had been "installed improperly," completely Ignoring the fact that lights had been functioning before they CUT through it (see picture). Instead of an apology they offered to quote us a cost to replace the box. All this was AFTER we met with them in person asking for more care to be taken in our yard and WHILE we were working with them to quote new landscape lights. This was all under the new owner. They will tell you they just purchased this company from a previous owner but in fact they are using the same crews as previous owner and simply aren't willing to be accountable. Do not recommend.

The team brought a lot of creativity to the project, offered fair pricing, and ultimately delivered a beautiful, high-quality finished product. The project did take longer than originally estimated, largely due to issues with the paver supplier that required all of the pavers to be redone. To Sonoran's credit, they took responsibility for the issue and made sure it was corrected properly, although it did extend the timeline significantly. We also encountered some issues with the city planning and permitting process that required more of our personal involvement than expected. While Sonoran is clearly one of the most creative and talented landscape companies out there, they would benefit from having a stronger project management system or dedicated project management team to help streamline communication and timelines. Overall, we would definitely recommend Sonoran Landscape Design. The finished product is wonderful, and their creativity and craftsmanship truly stand out.

Unfortunately, what happened once the project was underway was dramatically different. First came discrepancies in the billing. When we questioned why the numbers didn't reconcile, the explanations only created more questions. Then materials we had already paid for were removed from our property. Then work stopped with our contracted project unfinished. Today, we have less than 10% of the contract amount held back, yet significant work remains incomplete. Materials we paid for are missing. And despite our requests, we have not been provided the supplier/vendor information for important components of our project, including plants, lighting and the pergola. That means we don't simply have an unfinished project--we cannot even confidently source matching materials or determine where to pursue applicable product warranties. Most concerning: communication stopped. We gave Susana and Chilo multiple opportunities to address the unfinished work and outstanding issues. We also provided a formal written deadline to either complete their obligations or provide the information necessary for us to finish the project ourselves. No response. This isn't about someone being unhappy with the color of a plant or having minor punch-list items. We hired a professional landscaping company, paid substantial money toward the contracted project, and expected the job to be completed. It wasn't. Our advice to anyone considering Gardens by Chilo & Susanna: Don't. If you do.... Document everything. Reconcile every invoice. Photograph materials you've purchased. Do not assume materials delivered to your property will remain there. Get every supplier, manufacturer and warranty in writing. And most importantly, retain enough money that you have meaningful leverage if the work stops before your project is complete. We relied heavily on the positive reviews and our excellent first impression of Susana. Unfortunately, our actual experience has been very different. Buyer beware.

Our irrigation system has deteriorated in less than 4 years. The controller used was not tolerant of the desert environment and the tubing has disintegrated, resulting in total plant failures. Their "warranty" is minimal--less than a year for plants and materials.
