Only as I get older…read moredo I realize the incredible embarrassment of riches of access I once had to doctors who viewed fixing an injury as only part of the journey, rehab and regaining proper mobility is actually the key to regaining yourself. Sports Medicine Northwest has this philosophy in spades and even reminded me of it. I had resolved I'd always limp after tearing my quad, and my time chasing my kids would be labored and short. I could not be more wrong. I feel grateful to have found this place! And, even more grateful for the progress I have already seen since being in their dedicated care. I felt compelled to leave a review because (1) this team knows how to help you and (2) I noticed a fellow reviewer's comments that upset me as a client of this facility. Not only did I find this other reviewer's experience to be the polar opposite of mine, I fear their review could potentially prevent folks who really need help from getting quality life upgrading help. (Also... contextually... it's worth calling out this other reviewer gave Costco 1 star! COSTCO! So... I mean if you hate deals and hate spending quality time with your kids... then Costco and this place ain't for you)

My most recent visit felt more like a magic trick than anything else. 8 weeks after a motorcycle crash, I was still suffering from ankle pain and limited mobility. I was certain I had a broken bone that wouldn't heal. I went to urgent care, got images, and was told to "give it time." I did, and it wasn't getting any better. So I decided to see Dr. Pond, who felt around in there, and was able to diagnose a minor bone displacement, and adjusted it back in place in 30 seconds. After 8 weeks of pain, I was fixed after a 5 minute process. I'm still in disbelief. If you've got anything going on, go check him out. You might be surprised with what's possible.

Would give more stars if I could. This story starts over 2 years ago when I suffered a herniated…read moredisc that led to severe foot drop, knee pain, and constant back pain. My initial experience with physical therapy left me feeling pretty hopeless that I would ever return to anything close to "normal." Running again--or feeling athletic at all--felt out of reach. When I walked into Tangelo, it was mostly because my back pain flared up after trying to get back into the gym and lose weight after so much inactivity. What stood out immediately was that even with my MRI results in hand, Dr. Mike still took the time to listen. I made it clear my goals were bigger than just pain relief--I wanted to run races again and get back to the level of athleticism I had as a college football player. Instead of a generic, one-size-fits-all plan, I got a thoughtful, progressive approach that actually aligned with those goals. We didn't just treat symptoms--we built strength, stability, and confidence step by step. Working with Lawrence was always impactful, as we focused on movements specific to running and my injury. For the first time since the injury, I felt like I was truly moving forward instead of just managing setbacks. Fast forward to now--I'm running races again and have set both a 10K and half marathon PR. That didn't feel possible not long ago. The entire staff created an environment that made you want to show up--great energy, great music, and always a warm welcome. If you're dealing with pain, setbacks, or feel like your goals are being dismissed, Tangelo is different. They don't just get you out of pain--they help you get back to doing what you actually care about.

I truly can't recommend Tangelo enough. I attended PT and was diligent about doing all my exercises but my symptoms weren't getting better. Over two and a half years I saw four different PTs, tried acupuncture, and even got a corticosteroid injection in my lower back but nothing helped. At first, I was resistant about seeing a chiropractor based on what I had seen online but I wanted to get better and wanted to try one last thing before beginning more invasive procedures. From the very start, Dr. Mike and Lawrence and Von listened to my concerns and my history. They were able to give me a more accurate diagnosis and worked with me to find a program that fit my body and my boundaries. Everyone at the clinic has been so kind and encouraging along the way. When I started at Tangelo in mid 2024 I could only run a quarter of a mile. Since then, they've helped me run three half marathons with more to come! I am so grateful for all the care they've provided to help me get back to what I love most - moving my body. They've brought back a lot of joy in my life and I am endlessly thankful.

I recently started having really bad lower back pain for about the last 1-2 months and I finally made an appt to see him today. Zach gave me such an informative rundown on the root issues and the assessment was spot-on to my bad [posture] habits. He assured me in the way I needed it and again gave me the proper tools and exercises to feel confident that I can tackle this. Will this will become LA's leading body-mind movement training hub for creatives and entrepreneurs?…read moreI don't know why you would go anywhere else. Go talk to Marco if your body is in pain or if you are working to become a more embodied artist/designer/performer/entrepreneur. He teaches individual and group sessions in Alexander Technique with a particular sensitivity towards people doing creative work. Like refining how you hold your tools over long, repetitive work sessions to prevent pain and to create a deep connection with your work. Let me explain why I am so enamored with this approach... We are all stuck with our bodies. As much as I would just like to leave my (now middle aged) body behind when it's hurt or tired - my body is always there. I have also always been attracted to training my body for performance in sports and theater. When I meditate, my body is a site of reflection. If I wasn't stuck with my body then I probably wouldn't enjoy my life as much. My good friend Marco gets bodies and all all of their painful and exuberant complexity. He has deep insight in how bodies move, how they express, how they are linked to the mind, and how they express our souls. I have known Marco for nearly a decade now and gotten to witness his journey from being a successful business guy who loved design and endurance sports into now perhaps the only person I can think of who explicitly linking the insights of Alexander Technique to the labor of the creative class. If you are unfamiliar with Alexander Technique it is just a bodywork/movement training method. It has been around forever and used often to help performers/dancers/singers/etc develop more presence. People also practice it to get rid of back pain etc. I like things like Pilates, Feldenkrais, Rolfing and yoga well enough but if I want something more than just a fitness or bodywork regime...something designed to support my creative practice and me as a creative person...then I want something like Body Economics. Marco's take on Alexander Technique is designed for creative people. He offers local sessions as his Los Angeles studio, universities, and online. I did a series of online sessions with Marco (I live in NYC) when I was having chronic back pain from working on a computer too much. He was able to provide me with feedback over live video on how I was sitting and standing that changed my understanding of my body. I was able to unwind some knots internally and breath more deeply. In the end I came away with some new tools for self-diagnosing my body when it gets out of wack and ways to put it back in alignment. Oh and Marco can speak Italian if that is useful to you. Go give your body and mind a tune up.

Leaving Marco's studio after just one session, I felt more fine-tuned. My body felt spacious and…read moreopen. And I had a greater appreciation for my human body. This process is invaluable because it can be incorporated into every single facet of life. Feeling the shift of tension releasing as Marco moved my leg, I wondered how often I allow my body to move the way it's actually designed to move! This technique has a soft and fluid sense about it. I was so impressed by the way Marco could feel what was being released in my body and gage what was happening with his hands just as I felt it. I really appreciate this return to the building blocks of how we move, learning how to use our bodies to their full potential. These are tools our culture doesn't teach us to master as we grow up, and it seems like such an obvious hole in our development. We use our bodies for everything. After one session I can see the potential, especially in my art, to bring me back into the process and the "doing" and away from the mind-chatter and tension that builds up in my body as a result. I know this tension inhibits my work and also robs me of the pleasure of the process.
