    NEW COMBO FRIED RICE PLATE
    SunShine S.

Thanks to a previous customer. I made my way to get my own Salmon fried rice plate. This here is a very very favorable SALMON FRIED RICE PLATE with a piece of garlic bread and steamed broccoli. It was just as favorable the first time. Let's keep it flavorful...Highly Flavored Chicago. #OneOfTheCoolKids

    Cool art work.

A student brought in leftovers and was " You have to try this!", so I did and loved it. I had to try some fresh rollz for myself today. The girls and I tried the Italian beef, south side and jerk chicken ones. The jerk one was the best. I am looking forward to exploring more on the menu in the weeks to come.

Super Dry Ass Turkey Wing and what is that white crap on the rice? And nasty ass corn that's seriously not fried.

You can't support black businesses. Disgusting food and the wrong food at that!!! Dry ass fried turkey and I'm lactose intolerant and they gave me Mac and cheese for no reason!!!! I could've gotten sick and I called and told them but the man-woman on the phone assured me I wouldn't become sick and laughed in My face. Never again and I'm telling everyone to Beware.

Highly Flavored is the perfect name for this carry out only establishment. The food is seasoned to perfection! The young lady who takes your order, is friendly, thoughtful and runs the place like a well oiled machine . Everything we ordered was outstanding from the chicken wings, to the catfish with macaroni and cheese to the fried rice with chicken. Also, they have a sweet and savory sauce that they make in house that was absolutely delicious and it made the fish even more craveable. If you don't want to cook, but you want to take home some down home seasoned food then this is the place for you. I'm returning to try their eggrolls, and their turkey burgers.

The food is absolutely amazing! Salmon Alfredo is my favorite on the menu! Always ask if chef Shana is there!!! She's the best!

Place exceeded my expectations. Cons are the price & the jerk chicken rolls having both zero jerk flavor & aside from the accompanying cheese having any flavor at all. When coupled with the sauces they're much better but honestly they fail in comparison to the rice & lemon pepper shrimp. It's also worth mentioning that the fries are prosaic also. With those tidbits aside this rice was amazing. Extremely similar to the rice found at hibachi restaurants but with tons more flavors. You'd be hard pressed to find a better rice dish in all of Chicago tbh. The lemon pepper shrimp were also a welcome surprise. Other establishments should take notes to what exactly lemon pepper should be because this is it. The portions are on the medium side of the spectrum but with the fries you'd fill any appetite.

Combo fried plate w/ jerk chicken , shrimp & orange chicken .

I ordered the combo fried plate. It has orange chicken , shrimp & jerk chicken . Overall I would rate it a 7/10 bcuz it was too much soy sauce I was tasting ( or some other sauce they cook the rice in was way too much). The smash burger tho is a 10/10 !!

Bottom bun drenched in sauce making it extremely soggy after 10 minute drive home

I'm writing this review because I love to support Black owned businesses whenever I can, and hope that leaving reviews helps to address customers concerns and helps to make the establishment a better and more successful business. With that being said, today was my first time trying this restaurant as I have heard so many good things about it and I was very excited to try them out. I ordered the Hot honey Chicken sandwich. So first, the menu does not indicate that the sandwich comes with onions on the online menu or in store, and had it said that I would have firmly asked for NO onions. I don't like the smell, much less the taste of onions. However, upon receiving my order it had a large amount of onions on the sandwich. I was too far to turn around, so I just picked them off, but the presence of them alone already altered the taste of the sandwich for me. The reviews I have read in the past states that food is made to order so expect a wait time around 25-30 mins, which I'm all for because I love that restaurants serve you your food fresh. My order took 11 minutes, so I don't know if that meant my food was not made to order, or if what I specifically ordered just doesn't take as long. That I'm a little unsure about. With that I will say, the food was not cold, but it was not hot either. Also, I personally am not a "spicy" girlie so I love to have another flavor to help balance out the heat. With that being said, the sandwich was EXTREMELY sweet. No "hot" to the "hot honey" at all. I would describe the sauce as having a sweet syrup like consistency. By the time I was able to start eating the sandwich, the sauce had completely drenched the bottom bun making it soggy and basically fell apart when trying to eat it. The chicken itself was seasoned well, but that all got lost by the amount of sauce that it was covered in. I will say, the pickles are what made the sandwich. They really help to break up some of the sweetness from the sauce, with a nice crunch. Now as far as customer service, I have zero complaints. The staff was very nice and efficient. They were not rude at all, and very helpful. I wish the efficiency in the customer matched what I was served today. All in all, I do appreciate the business, and like the variety on the menu and the fact they sell brunch items during all business hours. I would like to give this place another visit in the future, but I hope that I have a much better experience when it comes to the quality of the food.

Smash burger with bacon and non-requested onion

Today, we attempted to give this restaurant a 2nd chance and yet again they did not follow preparation instructions. One Smash burger was dressed as requested with no bacon, yet the other was dressed with red onion. As a restaurant, it's important to adhere to food allergies and requests to omit certain components/condiments due to dietary restrictions. Upon pickup, I verbally verified with the manager that the order was prepared as requested and he specifically said, if not, provide a Google review. Moreover, I didn't think I needed to remove the bun and inspect. The food is good however, to eat out is not cheap and the inability to prepare as requested, has caused them to lose us as a customers.

Saw this restaurant suggestion on TikTok. We ordered 3 entrees and one appetizer. Jerk chicken rolls were delicious; highly recommend. Catfish and Gouda grits were good but I got a thin fillet cut in half, so I feel I didn't get my money worth. Fried lamb chops; delicious. Fried Turkey wings and corn on the cob strips were too salty. If you like highly seasoned food you'll love Highly Flavored. If you have high-blood pressure, steer clear. My only other minor pet peeve is they don't have water!! C'mom!!! Go to Costco and get a 24 bottle case of water for $3.99. I was so thirsty and I didn't want the sweet sugary punch available

The smash burger was a disaster- wilted lettuce and tomato , red onion pieces, no bacon ass stayed in description and meat was burnt.

First time I came in got southwestern chicken soup. Spicy without being overwhelmingly hot. Lot better than progreessos version of the soup. And a grilled cheese that came with fries. Grilled cheese is an outstanding sandwich one that I don't eat as much since I'm not a kid anymore but it felt all warm, gooey brought back childhood memories. Second time I came got jerk chicken salad. Flavorful, zesty. The jerk chicken didn't have the taste from like an actual jerk place but I liked it. I got the Maplewood fat pug for a beverage. It also looks like they sell beer to go.

Food is fantastic. Price is high. Service from Nick (owner) was TERRIBLE…read more I was a long-time (20+ yr), loyal customer up til I was yelled at by Nick because I spoke up about consistently receiving orders much later than promised via online orders. I had placed many online orders for pick-up on my 30min lunch break, to ensure I had proper time to drive to, pick up my food, and quickly drive back from the restaurant. After a few pick-ups took around 20mins after promised time, I was pretty upset. I was told they only start making food once the person is there to pick it up, so I asked what's the point of placing an order online and receiving a pick-up time, when the food only starts to get made once you're at the restaurant to pick up? That's when the owner stepped in (My family and I have had many pleasant convos with him before at the old location), turned red, bunched up his face, and legit yelled at me "What do you expect? Do you want your fries to be cold or do you want them fresh?" (I was taken aback, and responded "I expect my order to be ready at the time indicated"). He told me I could go elsewhere. I get it. I was receiving consistently poor service and was upset when I asked the cashier about timing, so he stepped in to defend his worker. What I don't get is how you can tell a customer to go somewhere else when they're expecting their food at the time promised (or at least within 5 mins...I'm not THAT picky). Perhaps my expectations are too high?

This black owned business has above average standing room in the waiting area, two TVs and an ATM with a good amount of seats/benches. Seems like it might've been an old chinese food joint with a few tables, but they opted for a pure takeout experience (which is unfortunately the trend nowadays.) Since it was my first time I thought I'd try both the fish and chicken combo along with the dirty rice. The total came out to be $24 with the wait being about 15 minutes. The staff overall were nice.      After leaving the place and checking the food. I realized that the combo dinner didn't contain a roll and coleslaw like advertised which was kind of disappointing. It did have the fries though. The requested lemon pepper was there, but they also seasoned the chicken/catfish with garlic powder, salt and parsley which is fine. Everything was fried hard, but not dry which creates the perfect pleasurable crunch. The chicken and fish tasted better than a lot of the restaurants in the area with the fish having a lightness to the breading that's sorely missed. Some of the chicken was weirdly tough though as if it was slightly undercooked.      Speaking of misses we have to talk about the dirty rice. Dirty rice is one of those dishes that seems like it either is absolute perfection or an abomination with no in-between. This unfortunately falls into the latter with it not only looking boring with all brown notes, but the initial taste as well as texture being an off putting creamy rancid trip to flavor hell. After a just a few bites my stomach turned which does not bode well for this dish. I have no idea what went wrong here, but it seems like it may have been sitting out too long. Even the smell was a bit rancid. At least it has a good ratio of ground beef to rice which a lot of places skimp on. They also attempted to add in some vegetables like peppers although they are barely noticeable.       Overall Surf's up is a good spot with friendly staff, decent prices, but some issues with quality. My advice is to make sure the cooking temps are correct and consistent. Definitely make sure if food is sitting idle, that it is kept at the mandatory minimum of 140 degrees farenheit to avoid it going rancid so quickly. Also, double check the orders before sending them out or edit the menu if it is outdated.
