Ducks at a wash on the West end of path.

As a recreational biker, the 56 Bike Path is a decent ride that allows me to get to the coast or to RSF without having to worry about traffic. No challenges here although going West to East, there is an incline up to Black Mountain Road. Nothing too bad though. Of course, if you take the path, you're going to have to deal with the freeway noise. Ear-buds in...problem solved.

Great paved road for road bikes, parallel dirt trails for mountain bike warriors. The scenery keeps my eyes busy an not focused on the pain my thighs feel. Great path if you are training for an event or just want to take a stroll for exercise. Be sure to bring water. There are many exits and the route goes on if you want to brave the streets and head out to the beach.

Bicycle riding on the end of the east side of 56. Rancho Carmel Dr./Sabre Springs Pkwy view.

I was last here on July 6th, 2017 at around 13:00 (1pm). I am assuming that the trail they are talking about is the 56 bike trail that runs from Del Mar Heights to as far as the end of 56 east and the 15 entrance/Ted Williams Parkway. I wanted to say that this is great for bicycling. If you need to commute from Carmel Mountain to Rancho Penasquitos, or anywhere in the 56 community then this is the main route you want to take. You generally will not encounter traffic or cars unless you are at one of the exits of the 56. I generally had good experience with the ride here. I got to see and explore every community around the 56 area. Lots of cyclists do come here for training or riding for fun. I do not come here very often since it is a bit far, but when I get the chance to, I will. I do commute pass it by using Black Mountain Rd. up the hill to Rancho Penasquitos. Let me warn you that this route is not great for your first bicycle riding or if you are a beginner. There are lots of slopes around the route especially between Camino del Sur exit and the Ted Williams Pkwy. If you are coming from Black Mountain Rd., then there is a steep hill you have to climb and by the time you get up, you will be out of breath and sweating when you land on the bike lane of the 56. If you live on the west side of Camino del Sur, then I think it is easier there. Also there is not much scenery or any memorable ones I would recall from riding here. Anyways that is not the fault of anyone since it is just mother nature. And speaking of mother nature, you will need your bicycle lights at night because if you do not have that then you will not be able to see anything as the route is pitch black. There is no lighting anywhere except for the freeways in the car which do not even shine at the bike route. I also would not recommend you to come here to jogging/running/walking unless you are experienced. Even though there are no cars, there are cyclists where you often have to watch out for. Most cyclists do go around 15-20 mph too. Another reason is because the sun hits you hard here. There is no shade and you will get sunburned if you do not wear a sunscreen. Finally, there is no restroom or a pitstop for you to get water aside from that Mobil 1 off Camino Del Sur exit. You are much better taking a stroll around your neighborhood. Anyways if you do take a stroll, be alert and keep a lookout for cyclists and stay hydrated. Overall though, I think this is a great option for cyclists. I have to say a 5 star because it is a cool place to cycle. I like the idea of cycling next to the freeway and this is one of them in San Diego. Maybe 1 less star for walkability/jogging, but since it is a bike lane, it does not affect the cycling experience here. I think the option of even having this route is a great addition. And I did not have any bad experiences with this route either, bikers are friendly. One of them saw me break down and offered to help me fix my bike tube when I first learned how to ride a bike. Therefore I rate it a 5 star. PS: I may update some photos in the future if I bike here by doing an updated review. I wrote this for fun.

Safe and pleasant. Easy to access from Oceanside Harbor 9 miles long with a little detour onto the service street near the north end.

It's super accessible with ample parking, and I love that there are multiple entry points and routes you can take depending on how long of a walk you're in the mood for. This park truly has something for everyone. There's a splash pad, basketball courts, a great playground for kids, and even a giant chess game, which is such a fun and unique touch. It's also an amazing place to walk your dog--I bring mine here all the time, and he absolutely loves all the open grass and the variety of paths we can explore. One of my favorite features is the set of stairs that lead up toward the residential areas and the dog park. If you take them all the way up, you're rewarded with really pretty views at the top, which makes the little climb totally worth it. Overall, Civita Park is clean, well-designed, and perfect whether you're looking to be active or just enjoy a relaxing afternoon outdoors. Definitely a Mission Valley gem!

Lately, with temperatures 10 to 19° above "normal average" - or maybe it's just the new normal - it's hard to recall the last time we got to experience a cool day. But here, the way the gazebos, tables, and benches are set up reflects a pretty severe case of denial that this is Southern California, and not quite within walking distance from the beach. It WILL get hot whenever it damn pleases, with or without notice. It did so in February already, in case you missed it. We came a few times for the farmers market. Both days were unfortunately " 80°F" her weather report, which in reality feels like 92°F, and we had to scramble to find a little bit of shade, so that we could eat our street food without passing out from heat stroke. We huddled awkwardly on the curb under a small tree. Other people passing by with food in their hands looked at us with envy. NOT A SINGLE PERSON sat on the readily available benches with tables, because they were in the blazing sun, yet lacked any shade. Never mind an umbrella, not even holes to put one in!! Denial much?? It's really sad, because it's a beautiful place. It just DESPERATELY needs more shade for the visitors to feel comfortable without clinging to trees or the bathroom walls.

There are four big pine trees with separate retaining walls around three of them for owners to sit down. With it being so close to the bay, there's often a nice breeze that goes through the park. There's no divide between small dogs and big dogs, so it's best to just keep an eye on your dog, and many owners around here are usually respectful. The street parking immediately adjacent to the park is free, however, it has a limit of 30 minutes, and the parking meter workers are strict on it if they're around. I bring my dog here around lunch time because those who live/ work in the area tend to bring their dogs during their break time and my dog gets his socialization time. They close 8am-11am MWF for maintenance/ cleaning. Currently, both gates are broken so it's not as secure as it should be, and who knows when the city will actually fix it. There're a few agility structures and a water dispenser. The children's park itself looks pretty cool for kids with a lot of structures with slides and swings. There's also another separate area with fixed exercise equipment that looks well- maintained. The water feature in the park is a water feature, not a pool.
