I gave written notice before the billing cycle started and even offered to pay for the 30-day period. Despite that, they refused to freeze my membership unless I submitted a doctor's note -- something that is not required anywhere in the contract for a freeze. The only part of the contract that even mentions a doctor's note refers to permanent disability or death for cancellation, not for a temporary freeze like in my case. Back in 2021, they froze my membership without asking for any documentation, and I know other members who've had the same. So clearly, they apply their rules selectively and withhold help when it matters most. Instead of treating me with fairness, they sent my account to collections for $860. This is not just poor customer service -- it feels like they're trying to profit off people's misfortune. If you're considering joining, do not sign a long-term contract. They are not helpful, not transparent, and not flexible when life happens.

It's sort of small compared to other Fitworks locations (I've been to Rocky River and Richmond Hts) and doesn't quite have as many amenities/features/machines. It's certainly not as impressive on paper compared to other Fitworks, but the little things count. The gym doesn't get too packed, so you'll rarely have parking issues or be waiting for machines. They play tolerable music over the speakers. Their staff is friendly, and the members are nice. They hold contests and events from time to time to bring the community together and reward its members. Before I was a member, I was just piggybacking onto my significant other's membership, which had free guest privileges. She had to go on a vacation for 30 days. With no trouble at all, they let me use her membership for the 30 days she was gone, even though the rules state that members must accompany guests at all times. My current gym wouldn't have allowed this based on past experiences I've had with them. I signed up with them after my 30 days were up. The little things really do matter.

That was the first hold. Second hold, a few days later, I got put on hold again by Maria. Left again, by Maria. Called back and got her. She tried to coax me into staying many times. It was VERY OBVIOUS she was trying to get me to the 30 day mark and I said, NO CANCEL THIS and she said she did, apologized and I thought that was it. Until Sunday, May 26th when I received an email from a collections company!! I cannot believe this is happening. This is 2026 and predatory subscription practices still going strong. I am currently working on a resolution. I have not yet heard from either the store nor corporate, which I am not surprised. Corporate never returned my calls back when I was in the midst of trying to get this cancelled. It was AWFUL and now, a new issue.

There are no ways to alert customers to the status of the pool aside from just calling. Due to this issue, I called repeatedly to request a refund for a month of my membership since this was the only reason I became a member. I've gotten the run around: my number has been left for people to call me back twice only to have no one call. I finally went into the branch today to make the request. When they were unable to issue a refund for my lost month, I requested to cancel my membership - only to be told that I'm unable to cancel my membership unless the Operations Manager is there. And guess what? The Operations Manager only works M-F 9-5. How convenient that the only person who can cancel a membership is only available during hours most Americans are working. I don't believe for one second that they are unable to cancel my membership: they are trying any way they can to make it so hard to cancel the membership that people don't.
