Love this place. We have been back within less than 2 weeks. Love their chirashi bowl. Sashimi was fresh, rice was properly cooked and seasoned. Their tempura was lightly breaded yet crunchy but not oily. Their maki combo was good valued also. Service was decent but can be slow if it's busy. I ordered Japanese Tonkotsu Ramen for take out. I was told it would be ready in 20 minutes on the phone. It ended up to be 45 minutes. I sat there waiting for 25 minutes. This is what I got, there is basically nothing in the broth, just a piece of onion, a piece of red pepper, a couple pieces of bean sprouts. Egg is over cooked. It is nothing like authentic Tonkotsu Ramen. It is extremely salty. I added a lot of water and some mushrooms in there to fix it a bit. And it is expensive. Very friendly staff; we changed the time of our booking multiple times and they cooperated really well. It has a very nice and quiet ambience with great customer service. We started with Shrimp Tempura and Sashimi Salad. Followed with Dynamite Roll, Green Dragon Roll, Red Dragon Roll, Philly Roll and Crunch Spicy Salmon Roll. They were all fresh and tasted great. Went here 3 times, for a special occasion dine-in and twice for take out. The Maki rolls are to die for, definitely best Windsor has and the quality is consistent every time. Appetizers like tuna and beef tartaraki (is that how it's called?) Were great too. It is on the higher price side and there's a chance of a long wait for the food, but fully worth it. The specialty fusion rolls are great, but pricy . They have 2 cheaper combos as well, Maki dinner and deluxe Maki dinner. Even these "generic" or simple rolls are better than any specialty high end rolls elsewhere. The rolls are big and have excellent balance of fish, sauce, veggies and rice . You will pay around the same price as you would at an AYCE but get far better value and a memorable meal. read more

Great location, decent food, poor snobby service.. if the rating was just for food, would have given this 4 stars. Service was horrendous to a point of spoiling our mood - we went together as a family, reserved ahead.. all went well till we landed at the hands of a snobby server who seemed disinterested.. food came late and she never ever bothered to ask once if we were enjoying our food or if we needed anything.. we felt isolated and were left wondering if they truly cared.. only towards the end another employee took good care which helped a bit.. Coming to the food, it was fairly decent - well presented and flavourful- we ordered quite a bit and the starters came through first and then the main course came through one by one. Honestly maybe my favourite restaurant in Windsor? Really enjoy the sushi, Korean dishes and overall house-like ambiance here. Service is always friendly and I love the convenience of the location, just minutes from downtown and steps away from the riverside. I love bringing my parents here to try new sushi plates, really great variety and hasn't disappointed yet. Sundubu-jjigae tofu soup is also pretty hard to come by sometimes, but happy to know they serve it here. read more

Looks like they changed owners! Came here and the menu was completely different. Had a lot more korean dishes. Was excited to try the different things on the menu. We ordered 2 rolls, which i can't remember the name of now. One of them had mango in it, which adds a nice sweetness to the roll. the rolls were nicely presented, and very packed. The other roll had seared white tuna on top. The seared part is what makes the unique taste of the roll. Nice smokeyness, with the natural fat of the fish coming out! However just like before, it takes a long time for things to come from the sushi bar. I don't know if it's just because they have 1 sushi chef, but it's always a waiting game, thought it would be better with the new owners. Overall, a great little gem in a small town! Hikari is a Japanese restaurant located in Downtown Windsor. It's located inside a house. They offer seating at a sushi bar, dining room, and a couple of tatami rooms. There are stairs, so it's not accessible.Most of the people I've spoken to in Windsor regard Hikari as the #2 sushi restaurant, behind Sushi California. Personally, I prefer Hikari for dinner. Both restaurants offer the typical, sushi with a little bit of traditional Japanese food restaurants. They both offer traditional decor, updated with modern necessities. Both also offer tatami style seating. I've had great service at both restaurants. Hikari offers a few "pan Asian/Chinese" dishes for those who not necessarily ready for Japanese food. Both restaurants offer vegetarian options, and with a little explanation, even vegan food. The only reason I hold any preference to Hikari over Sushi California is the price. I find the quality of both restaurants is comparable to what I've eaten in Vancouver, Toronto, or Montreal. However, the price for these dishes is anywhere from 20%-100% more expensive. Hikari offers a VERY reasonably priced lunch menu, starting at $5.99. I've also eaten here for dinner on a few occasions. My man and I ate a ton for around $35.00, including soda, tax and tip. I haven't been to Hikari in years, but recently I moved back to Windsor with my boyfriend and we wanted to have a date night. I called ahead about a half hour before we went, just to see if they were busy, they said there wasn't a wait and asked if I wanted to make a reservation, so I did for 7:00pm and when we got there, after about 10 minutes of finding a place to park, we went in and they had our reservation ready. Hikari is located downtown on Victoria St, and there isn't free parking (unless you can find some after 6:00pm), and it's hard to find a parking spot on the street in front. We ended up parking in the paid lot next to the restaurant itself. We got inside and we were seated and the service is a bit slow, the waiter came around about 10 minutes after we sat down to take our drink order. We had pretty much decided what we wanted, but it took another few minutes for him to come back to take our order. We ordered a lot, as much as we would at an AYCE sushi place, but everything on the menu looked so delicious, so why wouldn't we? Some items that we ordered were sushi pizza, wakame salad, Philly Roll, Salmon Twist Roll, Salmon Maki and salmon sashimi, my boyfriend ordered some rolls as well and the Katsu Curry. Our food came out sparsely in no particular order, and when our main sushi came out we were definitely almost full at that point. Everything was delicious and tasted super fresh. My favourite was the Salmon sashimi, I a salmon lover and absolutely love the fresh salmon sashimi. We took home a lot of our rolls for leftovers and they even package it up for you to take home. Besides the slow service and the long wait, the food was delicious and the company was great. I love how they updated their menu to keep up with the current trends, this location, although not an AYCE sushi restaurant, gives you a great dining experience. Went on a late Saturday afternoon. There were a lot of reserved signs in the tables around me. I started off with a green tea... it was good and hot. Then, I had the tempura veggies (2 shrimps, 2 yams, 1 zucchini, 1 broccoli, 1 red pepper and 1 onion) and they were very good. Next, I had Unagi roll... 8 pieces. Wish there was more eel in the rolls themselves, but it was very good. Atmosphere was OK. Some noisy people came in after me. Wow soooo good! Had the Spicy Tuna Roll, Philly Roll and the Beef Teriyaki. We had the ginger salad also. All the rolls were great. Had a perfect mix of sushi, rice and veggies. What a pleasant surprise to find a quaint Japanese restaurant in Windsor, Ontario. Across the river from Detroit, Windsor itself is a delight... clean, quiet, and homey. Hikari is in a two story Victorian house saddling the residential neighborhood and the downtown. The interior is nicely designed with a beautiful sushi bar with lush wood and tapestries. The sushi (maguro and hamachi) was superb. The tempura soba was tasty (the soup base was a little sweet) and the salad dressing was nice and tangy. All in all, it was worth the hassles of going through customs for a quick taste of Japan in Ontario Canada. read more

I thought it was so cute how Hikari is located in a Victorian home. There's free parking directly adjacent to the home for everyone who doesn't want to pay for street parking. I entered and was immediately impressed by the cleanliness and openness of the restaurant. I was very impressed with the service but was disappointed with how mediocre the food was. We ordered: - Chicken karaage: it was okay...a little bland, nothing too memorable. I wouldn't re-order. - Tempura: I ordered the mixed tempura appetizer, which came with 2 shrimps and a few pieces of yam. I liked how they used really light breading and would order again. - Chicken teriyaki lunch: chicken was good, but the sauce was really heavy/hearty. I wouldn't order again. I wouldn't go out of my way for Japanese food here, but if you're in the area, it's not a bad option..just don't allow the nice decor to trick you into expecting good food. read more

I have been here four times and i must conclude that this is simply a bad restaurant. First of all, the service is both unapologetically rude and inexplicably slow. Be prepared to wait 15 minutes for a glass of water and over an hour for food even when the restaurant is mostly empty. Second, the quality of the fish is noticeably bad. I may not be a sushi connoisseur, but I have grown up eating everything from "fast food" sushi to Japanese fine dining in both small towns and "world class cities." The fish here is very "hit and miss" - often worse than pre-packaged, store-bought sushi. This poor quality is exacerbated by the fact that there are absolutely wonderful sushi restaurants not more than 5 minutes away. Lastly, this restaurant is simply too expensive given the poor quality of food and service, although I would not recommend coming here even with a significant discount. There is simply better for less within the immediate surrounding area. TLDR: bad service, bad fish, high price and close proximity to better restaurants makes this place entirely not worth your time and money. read more

Went there for lunch takeout and it was horrible. Giving it two stars because the sushi did have the salmon in the salmon and avacado roll but the seaweed paper tasted fishy. Eel had real eel in it but fell apart. The orange/yellow sauce given was sweet but didn't go with either roll. Not sure exactly what it was suppose to be for but certainly not the eel sauce usually given with that roll. Very disappointed will not return. read more

The sushi here is pretty good and the atmosphere is awesome but, the service for me was poor. I am a big stickler on a friendly server and for me it usually plays the biggest in role in weather or not I return to a place. I love the fact that you can sit on the floor and there is definitley a wide variety of creative rolls . However, our waitress seemed like she was bothered that we were there. When we asked to be seated in a different area she seemed annoyed , when we asked questions about the menu she seemed annoyed and the place wasn't even busy. Came here twice and was not disappointed. The food isn't the best tasting I've ever had, but it's still very good, presentation is great, and you can tell that it's all fresh. I absolutely love coming to Hikari! The atmosphere is fantastic--cozy and quaint with a modern feel. I love sitting at the bar and watching the chefs work. They're always really fun to talk with. Staff is friendly but do leave a little to be desired as they may forget to come by and refill your water. The food is delicious and presentation is perfect. I do wish portion sizes were a bit bigger though. I strongly recommend the Hikari style sashimi platter! read more

My first time in Windsor, and have a great time, specially at Hikari, loved the ambiance, every single room tastefully decorated. The service was great and the food came quickly. Don't leave the place without trying Ebi Shumai (steam shrimp dumpling) melt in your mouth, very delicate and can't stop eating them! Also loved the Beef Tataki, great seasoning...
