**DO NOT USE THESE MOVERS** MY WORST NIGHTMARE MOVE EVER!!! If I could give them a negative number I would. They are the absolute worst movers we could have ever chosen. Steve Dato came to estimate our household items and furniture. I was reluctant to pack my big flat screen TV but Steve assured me that it would better if I packed it and that if there is any obvious damage to the outside of the box, they would take responsibility. The move was from California to North Carolina. The movers took 2 days to pack the truck. We were told it would be one day. Our stuff sat in the truck for over a week before even leaving California. We were told that there would be a crew in North Carolina to help move the stuff into our house. Turns out Jerry (from Cali) didn't want to share the money with a NC crew and never called in a crew. There were 2 guys moving our stuff out of the truck into our home. Absolutely ridiculous. My husband and I decided to help or this was going to take several days. We helped carry everything into our home. It's now midnight and we find out that back in California they had repacked several items into places in their truck to make room for another family. That is why they took 2 days to load the truck. They were removing fragile items (which broke) and putting them into containers to make more room in the truck. Glass in with ski boots are you kidding me!!!! They did this without consulting us and told us as when we were unloading in NC. We felt very violated and distraught to hear. I come out of the house and start walking down the driveway just as Jerry is dropping our flatscreen TV on the driveway. He's laughing and I said oh that can't be good. We go inside and look at the shattered TV to which he said "Oh I'm sorry. Just put it in the claim and we'll take care of it". It's now 4 am we are still unloading and absolutely exhausted. We have no idea where 15 boxes of our stuff is because it has been repacked into random containers. My husband signs the paperwork and has Jerry write and admit to dropping the TV. We called Steve early the next morning to tell him about our experience and that our TV was dropped and our stuff was repacked without consulting us. We file the claim and provide pictures of the TV and the dented box. They tell us they are not responsible for the damage because we packed it. We went further up the chain and continued to get denied. Bottom line these movers trashed our TV (dropping it on the driveway right in front of me) and acted like they were going to do the right thing by owning up to it. They also hid the fact that they opened our boxes that were meticulously packed for safety and repacked poorly. DO NOT TRUST THESE MOVERS WITH YOUR VALUABLE, PRICELESS BELONGINGS. They lied and treated us very poorly even after we bought them all food in Cali and NC and tipped them in Cali before the move and we helped carry boxes until 4 am because they didn't want to pay more guys in NC. Hilford movers are more bad than good. They were careful with some stuff that came to the house. I mentioned to them that it took two truck loads to move boxes of books. The leader chose to put everything in one truck, thus them getting stuck on a down hill slope, the weight of the books made them to have to unload stuff and dolly to the storage. It is hard to put in to words how impressed we were with Noe's Crew from Hilford Moving. Taylen, Tony, and the 3rd T ( embarrassing I forgot his name) all introduced themselves when they first arrived. It may not sound unusual but how they did it was was so friendly and polite. A great way to start a hectic endeavor. The way they handled packing and crating our fragile pieces was simply amazing. They were neat and orderly. Once more they were always pleasant. They were hard workers, good at what they did and anxious to please. Taylen checked back to make sure that there was nothing that we forgot or wanted to add. I'm moving cross country and decided to see if Yelp could help me decide which company to use. When I saw the name "Hilford Moving & Storage" something clicked. When I then saw the average two-star rating ... Oh ... THEM ... I try not to harbor grudges, but this is kind of like "Post-Traumatic Move Stress Disorder (PTMSD)." About 15 years ago, I moved a very short distance from one home to another in Ventura. I'm sure that the movers did a lot of very nice things, but I don't have time to make this long so it is not going to be fair and balanced. Here's the bad: This was supposed to be full packing and moving, because I didn't have time to do any of it. Packers did their stuff, left and told me everything was good to go. They didn't tell me I'd need to remove stuff from refrigerator. I stupidly though that their not touching it meant the movers would put my fridge items in a cooler or something. Moving day comes and I'm screwed. Packing fridge items last minute was not something I'd allowed time for. Moving day comes, movers show up, we do some paperwork and then they take a 45 minute break. WTF? That day I'm running back and forth between a new storage unit, my old home, my new home. Coordinating everything with the moving team so I can be at the right place at the right time. At the end of the day I'm tied up at my old house, finishing a task. Waiting to hear from the movers who are putting stuff in the storage until. Don't hear. Nothing. Can't recall the excuse, but something like "we were waiting for you" or "you said you'd meet us here." They had finished their work there hours earlier. I was livid, but powerless. My budget was tight and it felt like I was being milked for every penny. I went back to Hilford with the team to tell someone there what happened. I honestly don't recall the details, but let's just say they didn't feel the customer was always right. Now, years later, recalling this, I can feel my ears ringing and my face flushing with anger. Hilford Moving & Storage was not careful with our goods on our last move. When I called to report the damages, it took more than one month to receive a claim form. The claim form made no sense, and I telephoned Hilford's owner Sally Crain. On the phone she told me she had a service man who could repair the damage. Her service man is a personal friend with no license, bonding, or insurance, yet Ms. Crain wanted me to have this man take our expensive art and repair it in his garage. Hilford is an Allied Van Lines affiliate, and I telephoned Allied's headquarters. Allied takes no responsibility for its affiliates and was no help at all. After Ms. Crain's friend visited to inspect the damage, she sent me a letter from "Hilford Claims Department." There is no such thing. It took HIlford four months to contact its insurance company, five months for an agent to inspect damages, two more months to offer a "settlement," that was several thousand dollars below the amount of damage Hilford caused. In the interim, I spent at least 50 to 70 hours documenting the damage, reaching out to Hilford via certified U.S. mail and email. Hilford did not sign the mail's return receipts and denied receiving any correspondence. Now Ms. Crain states that the amounts listed to replace items or repair damage is too expensive. These amounts were taken from written estimates by certified professionals. I discovered that moving and storage companies purchase high-deductible insurance on storage only and must pay moving damage out of their proceeds/profits. That is why Ms. Crain continues to ignore damages of several thousand dollars. She does not want to take responsibility for damage she admitted to me on the phone that her movers causes. May is National Moving Month. Think twice before hiring Hilford Moving & Storage or any Allied Van Lines affiliate. If you hire Hilford, who we used in the past with no problem (before they brought their C-/D+ team on), pay for full replacement costs---and then pray. read more

If I could give these guys no stars, I would. DO NOT use them if you're moving. If you're military, you probably won't be given a choice, as I wasn't, thanks to the government giving these jobs to the lowest bidder. I moved from California to Virginia. These guys damaged/ruined/destroyed 12 large items, many of which are antique and/or handmade. Irreplaceable. They shoved everything haphazardly into the containers and didn't wrap large pieces completely (or at all), resulting in scratched, scuffed, gouged, or downright broken items. Why would you wrap a $2 plastic cup in six layers of tissue paper, but you don't wrap my handmade wooden trunk AT ALL?? Why would you treat my piano so well yet snap the legs off my buffet, bookcase, dresser, and antique Italian night stand?? I know it's not your stuff, and you clearly don't care, but try to display some professionalism and intelligence. I will obviously be making a claim against these guys, as they've broken half my house. I wholeheartedly hope they seriously retrain or fire the workers who did this, and I really hope the military never uses them again. read more

Fucking wonderful. Moving gods among men. There was some miscommunication as to whether i had boxed and packed up or not, (my bad) the result being 2 movers showed up to a completely unpacked home, that needed to be moved that day. These gentlemen were perfect. Kind, patient, worked around all of my personal belongings, gentle with everything. Stopped to comment honestly about everything i had that was broken, confirming they hadnt broken it. they even turned off all of my electronic computer components before gently setting them aside, assuring i dont have dead batteries once moved. Things even i forgot to do, to my own belongings. They care, and want to do the job correctly. Needless to say when i learned about the miscommunication over packing, i was quite paniced. One of the workers, robert, even took it upon himself to let me know "they got this, today is gonna be okay" through out the process. Best part is after alllll this they did the work the quoted amount of time they told me, despite their being much more work to do then they thought. Let me start by saying that this company moved a tremendous amount of our furniture and belongings to another state.It began with meeting with Pete Cresto .He was courteous,on time and very thorough with the explanation of the process. Our price to move was very expensive but we went with the package of them packing our belongings as well which turned out to be a wise decision.It took a team of 4 men to pack everything and it took a day and a half. Kudos to the team of packers,Doug,Noe,Curtis and George.They were friendly and took extra care of my belongings.Everything was packed,wrapped and boxed meticulously.Each piece of furniture was handled as if it belonged to them.There were several very difficult pieces that had to be disassembled and they all had tools on hand and knowledge on how to put it back together. Packing the SEMI truck was like a game of tetris and they'd great.We had some museum quality pieces of art and three large ship models made by my Father in law with each encased in glass.Special wood boxes were built to ensure their safe arrival.This team of movers did a GREAT JOB. We were given a specific date for our things to arrive and were waiting for the arrival of our belongings.After several hours we realized there was a problem.After phone calls we were told that several drivers had not shown up and our things were still in our hometown. We were told that the day of delivery would be days later then the signed contract.We made several phone calls and only had to wait one extra day.Hence the 4 star rating. ZERO STARS IF WE COULD.....We hired this company to move our belongings into our garage during a remodel and move a few things to an apartment nearby. FIRST, nothing was wrapped or covered and stored properly in our garage. When asked why the movers simply said "Well that would mean more work." I literally would folllow them and cover things myself like couches, chairs, etc. Should have fired them right then and there but we are too nice and gave them the benefit of the doubt. It just got worse from there. The placement of furntiture on it side like dressers, couches, tables etc was completely idiotic as was the time it took them to move 2 beds, one kitchen table a few other things to an apartment less than 5 miles away. Then they hit us with a bill that was completely and utterly criminal and way over what they quoted. Of course they had our cc on file so there was no way to get any type of compensation. When we reached out to ask for compensation they sent us a form to fill out which indidcated if it was over a certain amount would need to be notarized. Used them to move from Santa Barbara to Philadelphia, with my stuff going into storage for 3 months in-between. On moving day they forgot to bring mattress bags--so I had to drive to Uhaul and buy them. Additionally, they never mentioned that they were going to un-box what I had packed and re-pack it themselves. They did an awful job with that, esp. with heirloom photos and mementos which I had carefully packed. TV parts were also separated and i still haven't found everything. We interviewed several moving companies prior to our move. So happy we went with Hilford. All of the guys were so courteous, on time, careful with our things and even did things for us that were probably outside of their job description. They left things clean, protected the floors and white carpets. The price was what they said it would be , no surprise fees and not one glass was broken. THESE PEOPLE ARE THIEVES ----- DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! My list of problems is large, but let me state the most important- THEY STOLE FROM MY FAMILY. Derick and Kevin were the movers that came to my family's home to move our furniture. My mother was there to oversee the move. She is older and uses a walker and they must have seen the perfect opportunity to take advantage of her. While they were upstairs (and she was downstairs) they completely went through all of the bathroom cabinets- and luckily for them they found where we were hiding our jewelry and took it ALL. We have filed a police report, but that will take time. We have also complained to the company, where the "owner" Gloria assured us that the 2 men who were there were "stand up guys" and that she would "let the police handle it." This company did not seem to care that their employees are thieves and now we are left without family heirlooms. All we can do now is pray that the police will come through for us! read more

I don't know that I've ever had a greater reason to write a negative review of any business. Terrible service. I wanted to make a large move across the country here and was told by my employer to use their "service." This company failed to do what they promised to do on multiple occasions and after failing on these multiple occasions, DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to make up for their numerous mistakes. It never worked. I wanted my stuff to come at the first of the month. They me the best they could do was the 5th of the month. The 5th came and went. No call. I called to follow up, they said it wouldn't work then, but they could make a window between the 13th and 18th. The 18th would be the VERY LATEST. A big change, but I wanted my stuff and decided to let it go. The 16th came and I decided to check up on it - seeing that once again, there was no communication on their part. Then they said, oh, now it will come on the 25th! I said it was unacceptable, they did nothing. I am now in the process of getting my stuff back from them to get another mover to do it. Of the four movers I contacted about my in-town full service move, this was the company that was the most professional in every way. The representative who came to my home to do the estimate was upbeat, considerate and knowledgeable. He explained the process thoroughly and answered all of my questions. The office was great about communicating with me about appointments and scheduling. The rep sent the estimate when he promised he would. The crew that came to do the packing arrived early. They were a personable group of three guys that worked well together and most efficiently. They did not hesitate to ask questions when they needed to about my items. They took good care of everything. Moving day went very well, too. Ernesto and Richard returned from the previous day, and Donnell accompanied them this time (Unfortunately I forgot the name of the third person from the day before - sorry!). Hilford was a godsend when we downsized my mother's house and moved her from Somis to Camarillo! Had a tricky escrow and didn't know the moving date until a few days before, but after speaking with Sally, she informed me that they would be ready when we were! The foreman, Doug, was pleasant, efficient and very well organized. His crew were friendly and VERY hard working. We had to move many precious items as well as a large safe and everything was perfect. They made several stops to drop off furniture that were going to family and were happy to do it.
