Why in the heck did Hill's end their contract with UCSF for labwork??? What a nightmare!!! Now all has to go through Quest and they are not equipped to handle the higher patient load. It now takes weeks to get an appointment for labwork and good luck as a walk in. I couldn't find any appointments in SF for over 2 weeks, found something at their lab in Daly City 1 week out for 3:10pm, they were so short staffed that I was not seen until 4pm and I watched them turn away close to 15 walkins. How do you get an am appointment if you have a timed draw or fasting? Complete mess. No reception staff, their phlebotomists have to do everything. Not even a station with masks if you get there and the waiting room is packed. Hill's there must be another way. read more

AVOID at all costs! Maybe this used to be a good group, but now it is so bad it's comical (or would be, if it wasn't my health we're talking about). Over the past few months: - They refused to pay for my flu shot, which I got via the WTMF clinic drive through (apparently I was supposed to go to Walgreens instead. Thanks for letting me know!) - They refused to schedule a mammogram for me THROUGH THE SAME GROUP because they don't cover it?!? Even though women over 40 should get mammograms yearly - They canceled my yearly checkup with NO EXPLANATION and only an automatic email, no effort to reschedule - Three weeks later, I got a paper letter in the mail saying my appointment was canceled and "we made every effort to contact you" b please don't lie to me... It's 2024. I have phone, text, email, and voicemail. Don't lie. Literally any other medical group in the area is better. I just switched to PAMF and already much smoother to get MY OWN HEALTH CHECKUPS scheduled and completed. Doctors are good, but the Hills Physicians bureaucracy is broken. Referrals are faxed and regularly lost between Doctor's, denials for approved procedures, a "MyChart" app for each specialist with no communication between doctors and a Hills Physicians staff that are quick to recite obscure contract rules instead of trying to solve the issue. I try to anticipate problems by double checking that doctors are in network, yet something ends up going wrong 50% of the time. Referrals are faxed, so you have to spend time figuring out which Hospital office received it before you can make an appointment. Hills physicians staff do NOT follow-up on any issues or appeals and it literally takes hours to figure out if the PCP, Hills Physicians, Cigna, or the Hospital is responsible for why you can't move ahead on a procedure or received a denial. Even though I am in an HMO, I spend hours each month coordinating my health care and fixing snafus for myself and spouse who are in good health. I cannot imagine what it would be like if one of us were really sick. read more

This is the worst physicians group in California. It used to be one of the top ten companies to work for in the Bay Area. Now Hill doesn't even make the list. They don't care about their employees and it seemingly has more executives than workers. They've lost a lot of good people and there aren't many left. Avoid it as your physician group as if your life depends upon it (because it does). Avoid it as an employer because showing appreciation for their employees ended years ago (thanks to David Joyner). Referrals are never to where they can benefit a person. The arthritis clinic told me they aren't taking any new patients and I should try back at the end of the year. They have no infrastructure in Marin with very few specialists. Calls to customer service have different answers every time and reps calling doctors with completely different stories. They had no specialists in my area so had to wait to petition for one, which was approved. Now that I'm seeing this new specialist they denied surgery approval 2 days before the surgery stating that I have to see one of their newly approved MDs; one is taking no new patients the other doesn't do this type of surgery. Feels like I'm echoing many of the sentiments already expressed. Each and every year we've been affiliated with Hill via our Healthnet HMO has gotten worse and worse. The in-network providers are booked solid for months or don't see children. The Prior Authorization process is designed to frustrate and (at best) delay care months and (at worse) result in members just giving up and going without care or paying out of pocket -- all of which supports their bottom line. Their customer service folks are kind, but like rats in a maze trying to find the impossible path to the exit. The leads hover between a lack of empathy and defensiveness, and have a penchant for interrupting us. They use 3rd parties for certain specialty authorizations (like Physical Therapy) that adds yet another group into the equation, and a place where things can break down quickly. We've been working for almost 2 months to get a Prior Auth considered for PT for our 13 year old son and it's gotten kicked back and forth based on incomplete or misunderstood details that are already at the fingertips of the bureuacracy. We've stuck with HMO's to control costs and minimize risk for our family of 5 and for the very first time, are likely to switch to a PPO the next go round as they've made getting care under our HMO near impossible. IF you can avoid working with Hill, we'd recommend it highly. read more

Every few months over the last year, I've gotten robo texts indicating I have an appointment with Dr Wei Rao - who I have never made an appointment with, in part because I live 400 miles away - and only leaving a phone number to cancel with. This time, I had to look up Dr Rao to find where this was coming from and why, but I wanted it to stop so I called the number to end this nuisance only to reach some very confused person in their home. Not sure if this is Hill Physicians is behind this, but they need to make sure it stops even if it isn't their fault. read more

Terrible group. They're very eager to take your private insurance and then stick you with public health clinic quality of care. Their providers have offices in areas you're wary leaving your car in, and you can never reach anyone on the phone. Scheduling for procedures is months out (I got called, finally, about being seen by a specialist months after I'd left for another group.) I never got the right links to Zoom sessions for telehealth. Dr. Marc Cabanne is amazing! Prior to a brain craniotomy, he outlined what to expect, how he was going to accomplish it, how much time it might take and possible warning signs to look for post surgery. His demeanor is laid back and it really helped us keep a positive outlook. During the post-surgery appointment, he confidently informed us that the surgery went well and that all the cancer is gone! What a blessing to have Dr. Cabanne and his amazing staff on our team. He has a big heart and a caring spirit, and obviously the experience to perform brain surgery! read more

Wow, this medical group is exactly what's wrong with the industry. I spent over 30 minutes on hold trying to schedule a first appointment with a PCP. I was then told that I need to contact my insurance to list Hills as my PCP before they are able to see me. Once that's done, I would then have to call every doctor to see who had availability. It is has been a nightmare dealing with Hill Physicians. I have spent over a month unsuccessfully trying to schedule critically needed therapy after a surgery. It has been an infinite loop of aggravation and bad information. I have concluded that you cannot rely upon anything that you are told. I've spent dozens of hours on calls (sometime starting out as "Caller 52"). When finally able to talk with a representative, hoping that you can rely upon what they say, it turns out wrong. When they say that they have "approved" a provider, it means that they are done talking with you and want to get you off the phone. There will be nothing in the system when you call back later that they ever had the conversation. When they refer you to a provider, it will be a provider who is not taking new patients. This will go on and on in many different forms. It is an organization that seems to be indifferent to their customers/patients well-being and are content burdening them, rather than helping, at an important time in their life. read more

Okay affiliated hill Physician was professional but communication between the circle of their groups are in Limbo. You call for the copy of the test and they won't have it , you call for prior authorization status they don't have any records . I call back and forth and they have not help me a bit. Now, I will just go directly to ER's and pay the 50 dollars then do a mambo limbo with this one up. The costumer services is a crap, as if we can't access the our hill chart , they don't have any records they have no records of your previous history , medication , previous test and etc. They don't have any clue and call you rude via phone if things get intense , no information , no help. I was a patient of Dr. Quinto and had requested an STD screening. The test came back positive and I was flabbergasted. I told him that I was very careful with my partners and asked if there was a possibility it was a false positive. He brushed me off and insisted the test was correct, despite me having no symptoms. This caused great emotional turmoil for me and the person I was dating. I later got tested at Kaiser, and surprise, I'm totally clean! So, basically, this doctor is mean, inconsiderate, and would not listen to one of his patients. Would not recommend. read more

If there is a zero star, I would give it ti this HMO group. The reason I stuck with them is because we have a great PCP and the premiums and deductibles are low, however once you need a specialist, you will never be approved. They have denied my claim for an appropriate and approved FDA treatment despite the peer to peer review that my physician did. My baby son need to see and eye doctor and it has been more than 3 weeks waiting for prior authorization which is not acceptable in my opinion especially that mg pediatrician recommended this referral. I will never ever using this medical group and or refer them to anymore else. read more

This is the worst medical group and highly not recommended. I have a respiratory condition and severe asthma and in 6mo been admitted 2x on top of numerous ER visits. My PCP recommenced me to see an "in-network" specialist who concluded type of treatment I need isn't avail with any physician within network. Yet Hills is instant about staying in network. I've had to advocate for myself hosting weekly calls with Hills PCP Stanford and my insurance carrier. I've had to find my own ICD codes make sure medical notes are accurate and practically hand hold the whole authorization process. Their lack of empathy, understanding, knowledge, and politics impede one's access to care and continuity of care. DO NOT CHOOSE HILLS PHYSICIAN MEDICAL GROUP!!!! read more

The doctor is good. But the support staff is not. Very bureaucratic. You will be placed on long holds, only to then be transferred to another person. And when you reach them, they will often be incompetent - poor listening skills, so that you have to repeat information 4 times, and then, rather than admitting they don't know, they will give you an incorrect answer. read more

Hahahahaha...no. God, this is one terrible group. Let me tell you a story. I was on some medication that I had to take for a couple years. So that was simple enough. Take pill, la la la. Everything's fine. During this time, I was attending college in another city. Hill Physicians Medical Group only operates in a very tiny area of participating doctors. There were no participating doctors within MILES of my college's city. I think you know where I'm going with this, yes? One day, I get a phone call informing me that I needed to make an appointment, or I would not be receiving any refills on my medication. I was running low, so I was like, "Well, I can't do that. I am in another city. I am going to COLLEGE. Can't you just refill my medication anyway?" But Hill Physicians, they didn't care. They forced me to book an appointment in order to get a prescription refill. Another time, I ran out completely and -- guess what? -- couldn't get a refill unless I came down. As you know, stopping a medication cold turkey can lead to very bad withdrawal symptoms, so Hill is basically doing this blackmail thing, "COME IN FOR AN APPOINTMENT OR NO MEDS FOR U!" and I was reminded of a pimp denying his crackwhore her line because she didn't ho' hard enough for him that day. I mean, seriously. You're supposed to have your patients' best interests at heart. IS IT REALLY IN YOUR PATIENTS' BEST INTERESTS TO CUT THEM OFF THEIR MEDS? No, no it is not. I ended up having to call their 24 hour hotline, and they gave me the location of the nearest participating Hill Physicians Doctor which was like...I don't know, 20 miles away? More? It was a long ways away and I didn't have a car at the time, so I was like, "HELLO. COLLEGE. FINALS. DO NOT WANT TO HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS CRAP." They gave me two freaking pills as an emergency dose and said that I'd have to come in for an appointment if I wanted more. God, that was awful. I was so freaked out and it was already bad because I was cramming for my last semester of finals before graduation. SO yeah, thanks for that, assholes. I'm at Kaiser now, and they are so awesome. I love them so much. They actually have their patients' needs at heart. Hopefully I will never have to deal with something like this ever again. read more

Stupid me selected their Catherine Sanders at 1101 Capp Street as my primary care physician because she was closest to where I lived. Man, they are TERRIBLE. My insurance requires me to get referrals from my primary care physician--they were supposed to give me about four referrals and I got NOTHING--despite follow-up. I thought I'd just wait a few months and then change my insurance but I had a couple of medical things I needed to have taken care of which required---you guessed it--referrals! I called and more than a day later I am still waiting to hear back from them. Stay away! read more

Run don't walk from Hill Physicians! I have not had a single good experience to report about them. After extensive orthopedic surgery on my wrist and elbow, I was restricted to only a few weeks of PT; certainly not what they promise. My physical therapists had trouble getting authorization and frankly just gave me a few extra sessions because they couldn't deal with Hill's nonsense. Most recently, I am getting a joint replacement in my foot. Hill's is making e get all the way across town to pick up an air cast and take it with me to surgery. Ridiculous....there's more. It wasn't approved until 1 business day before my surgery date and then only because my doctor's office hounded them. I got sent to answering machines that seemingly go unanswered. If you are into denials, then maybe you might enjoy Hill Physicians. I am on through a Medicare plan and intend to go back to the original Medicare. Medi Cal is run more efficiently! read more

My and family have been a member for less than a year and we can not long deal with the limit access this group provides. Not only is there limit access to doctors, imaging, and labs you will also be sent to low quality service providers. Hills has recently made changes which seriously undermine my faith in them. I received a colonoscopy last year, with a Hills' doctor, Dr Daniel Conlin (excellent!), with a referral from my personal physician. I scheduled the appointment 2 months in advance. 3 weeks after the colonoscopy was complete(I am fine!) Hills sent a letter indicating they would not approve the treatment at the location I went to-as if I had not received the colonoscopy yet- and that I needed to get it done at a separate venue. They have denied coverage, and so far after two rounds of appeal it seems I may have to go to arbitration. This is-pun intended-an unnecessary pain in the a**. We were tricked into switching to Hill Physicians because we were told that we could not keep our family doctor otherwise. That may not have been the case - we are still investigating to see whether we can keep our doctor without them. The 24-hour nurse emergency assistance by phone is even worse than what we had with Kaiser (much worse). The nurses are like robots (literally) unable to give you any direct advice. Let's not even get into offering compassion for the suffering... They drill you on a set of pre-established questions that mostly cannot be answered by a 'yes' or 'no', yet they keep repeating the same question over and over even if it includes a list of numerous symptoms. They read it quickly and expect an immediate answer to each list! So indignant. I asked politely whether two symptoms out of twenty or so justifies a 'yes' response, and the nurse just repeated the same long list over again, as if I were some ignorant, disobedient child. Very, very disrespectful. Two of the lists were to determine whether I was having a stroke or a heart attack. I answered 'yes' because I didn't want to be dishonest, but I did explain that the two symptoms on that long list were very mild and that I was pretty sure I was not having a stoke or a heart attack. I was having a bad reaction to a medication I should never have been given in the first place and calling to ask whether I could safely stop it. It was the weekend so I could not reach my doctor (not the one who prescribed the toxic chemical). I thought the 24-hour nurse line on my insurance card would help me. Sites on the internet implied that it might be unsafe to stop it abruptly. I could somehow tell that the nurse on the phone knew the answer, but was not allowed to tell me. Instead she suggested I go to the emergency room at the hospital. That seemed a bit outrageous. I finally asked the nurse what she would do in my situation, and after a long awkward silence, she explained that I could go to urgent care or simply ask a pharmacist. It took a while to get that out of her. I called the local grocery store pharmacist and was told that it was perfectly safe to stop taking my toxic medication immediately. No Hospital required. It was such a relief and I was able to recover without the stress of having my family drive me to the hospital... so glad I stopped it right away! Lately, Hill Physicians Group has been harassing me about getting screened for something that I could not possibly have, as it requires behavior that I don't engage in. The last letter even came with a $25 bribe. Wow! Pretty crazy right? Maybe if they offered me $10, 000? Probably not even then. My last provider treated my with a little more respect. We could save so much stress and money if this system incorporated some common sense. I smell so much greed in this health care system. Sickening and very sad. Fortunately, I am not one of those individuals. In fact, I was so pleasantly satisfied with my recent surgical procedure (3 hernias) that I want to share this extraordinary experience with others and to refer and reward the surgeon and staff for their commitment, experience and expertise. Back in late June, I was referred to Dr. DAVID M. SKEEHAN, DO of the Hill Physicians Medical Group by Dr Khangura. Following my initial visit, I was scheduled for other meetings, exams and tests necessary to safeguard my life and to minimize any possible surgical risks. On my initial appointment with Dr Skeehan, my wife and I were both very impressed by his demeanor, self confidence and commitment to excellence as he talked me through the options and procedures needed to ensure my recovery. He was very patient and allowed me to ask many questions, all of which he answered in an understandable and comforting way. Additionally, Dr Skeehan has one of the most experienced, professional and caring support teams I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. From the sign-in Secretary to the Nurses, interns, hospital staff, anesthesiologist and other support staff, I was truly impressed and pleased by their commitment and concern over my well being. Of particular note was the extraordinary help provided by Nurse Jessica Kennedy. She was always available, in person or by phone, to answer any questions or concerns I had prior to and following my surgery. The hospital staff also was very friendly, professional and gave me a very comfortable feeling about the procedure I was about to receive. On October 2nd, I met with Dr Skeehan for my follow-up appointment. Once again, he demonstrated all those attributes expected from a true professional. I was impressed that all the post surgical advice he provided was exactly what I experienced. Knowing what to expect and being instructed on what to do and what not to do, truly put my mind at ease and I am so pleased to say that my expectation is for a full and normal recovery. I had a few questions for him, which he quickly answered and explained. He never seemed rushed to get to another patient, instead he devoted his entire visit to my needs and to comfort me about any concerns I had. I am truly satisfied with Dr Skeehan's method of helping patients. I would hope that other medical professionals would follow his style. Finally, I wanted to mention that while I was going through my medical challenge, my wife, Vickie was diagnosed with breast cancer (she also has Multiple Myeloma) and needs surgery. We contacted Dr Khangura and asked if he would refer her to Dr Skeehan, which he has done. We are meeting with him on October 11th. It is refreshing to know that Vickie will be in the care of one of the finest surgeons we have ever met. We thank God that we met him. read more

When you have a medical condition things she be approved as soon as possible, Then you get charged for a appointment double the co-pay price it gets annoying. I called the Dr. office and they asked me to call Hills Physician because the average wait time is 45 min. Are you kidding me, then I was asked by my dr's office to call. To get authorization you have to wait 5 business days. Then instead of them emailing you to tell you they reviewed your case and rejected you going to a certain physical therapy provider, they tell me, contact your primary for another referral. I have been waiting 6 days and your telling me it took you 5 business days to get rejected.... This medical group sucks. read more
