If I could give it a zero or a negative star, I would. I'm sad, because this used to be a reliable place to go. Not last night. It was an average Saturday night and we were on our way home, so we stopped. There were two waitstaff for the entire diner side. (The main dining room was being used by a party). So, in total, there were about 15 tables for 2 waitstaff. I should have known something was off at the beginning, when our waitress started off by telling us how she hadn't been able to eat herself, while taking our order. The whole time she complained about how she was slammed. My husband ordered the chicken fried steak with a salad, veg, mashed potatoes and gravy. His came out sans salad and completely cold. I ordered a grilled cheese with chips. I think that sandwich saw the flattop for a max of 10 seconds. The cheese hadn't melted and was still cold from the walkin. AND ALL OF THIS TOOK 35 minutes for our meal to arrive from order to delivery. Nice little diner. Had the Henry enchilada. Probably the best enchilada I've ever had. So good. And big portions. It's your own fault if you walk away hungry. The only downside is they fill your soda cup to the brim with ice. So you don't really get that much soda. And then they charge for refills. Outside of that, I very much enjoyed this spot. Classic diner that opened in 1949. Solid food and excellent service. I was welcomed when I entered. Amarette D was my server. I got a fresh iced tea with a lemon slice. Each entree includes a side salad. Crisp lettuce. I had wanted chicken fried steak but they ran out My 2nd choice was the Salisbury steak with brown gravy. It came with a baked potato, green beans and a dinner roll. An actual steak, not ground beef. For dessert, I got a very fresh hot apple pie with golden vanilla ice cream for no extra charge. On our drive to Taos, we stopped here as a recommendation from other family members. The fish was fried to perfection! The breading was so crispy and tasty-fish was moist. Service was great, very attentive and on top of it. They have seating in the front and back of the restaurant. Clean, good music choice and they keep the restaurant nice and cool. Definitely check it out. My mother raves about their Turkey dinner on Sundays. read more

Don't waste your time & money. Terrible service. Lousy food. Took almost a half hour from waters to ordering food. We ordered easy simple items & waited an hour. Couldn't get our check. We recently (June 10, 25) had Hillcrest cater an event in there flamingo dinning room. Food was amazing, especially the green enchiladas, Spanish rice and natillas to die for. This was an interesting find, so glad we found it. We stopped here because we were starving at first, but fell in love with the staff and their quality food. The hubs got the Hillcrest special with scrambled eggs, bacon and came with a small juice. I got their cheese enchiladas with green chili, hash browns and beans along with toast. I'm always leery of ordering steaks of any kind in restaurants, but thought I'd give it a go. The steak was done medium like I ordered. It was breakfast time so I'm assuming it was a small sirloin. Once in a while I'll have some Worcestershire sauce with my steak. Was that ever a mistake. It was French's not Lea & Perrins. OMG what a horrible flavor. Then at my own expense/fault it didn't have a slow pour spout like Lea & Perrins so I totally ruined my steak, hash browns and partial eggs. Most of the other food is okay, but the Chicken Fried steak is horrible. Every restaurant in the world seems to have nothing but frinkin bought frozen and they all suck. I would not recommend this restaurant. My husband and I ate there this evening. I ordered a combination plate that included: a beef taco, chicken enchilada, chili relleno, beans and rice. The taco was very greasy and had a few crumbs of ground beef in it. The chili relleno was deep fried to a crisp in really old oil. The chicken enchilada was greasy and tasteless. I'd give a negative two star if I could. Don't know if it is because we are traveling on a Harley, or that we aren't local, or they don't like the color of our skin . Everyone in the dining room was enjoying their meals and chatting with the numerous waitresses so we were expecting a nice experience. We were seated and that was it. We became invisible..no water, no coffee. After waiting quite a while I noticed a full coffee pot on a side burner in the dining room. As soon as I grabbed the pot it was magic..they could now see us enough to admonish me. After I poured one cup the manager/owner? Grabbed the pot and took it in the back to dump it. She said our waitress is coming right out..mind you there were several in the dining room chatting with customers. Our waitress never came so we finally got the hint and left. I found this place listed on Yelp so I thought it might be a non fast food option for lunch as I passed by Las Vegas. The people working there were very friendly and seemed to enjoy their jobs. The customer service was good and the place had a laid back comfortable feel to it. I ordered the hot turkey sandwich covered with mashed potatoes and gravy. Only about 2/3 of the turkey was edible because the dry, overcooked parts were like cardboard. The mashed potatoes were lumpy and very dry. The gravy was good but it couldn't overcome what was lacking with the turkey and mashed potatoes. The prices were fair and the service was good thus the 2 stars but the food was not worthy of a star. read more

I absolutely love eating here at this restaurant! The staff is friendly and the food is great. The food here reminds me of my grandmas cooking when I was a kid. My favorite items for breakfast are the waffles and the hash browns smothered in green chili. For lunch and dinner I always order the burnt cheese tacos because they are the best in town! I didn't get a chance to take a pic just slipped my mind. I normally don't care for this restaurant because their chile isn't hot at all, but my brother n mom wanted to eat there. Anyway I ordered the hermits peak breakfast and as I was having a few bites I can't across two big chunks of giggly something or other in my hash browns. Lost my appetite and called waitress over to show her and ask what it was. She said "I think it's meat".....um you don't tell a customer "you think" so she showed the manager and he said it was the fat of the pork shreds they put in the green Chile. So anyway I don't usually complain because sometimes I just let it go. But after a while when your food is not up to par eventually you get tired enough to say something. Well as I went up to the cashier who I think was the owner. Me waitress came and brought my plate to show her... Waitress did appear to be annoyed with me cos I brought it up. Anyway the cashier said it was just fat from the pork. But it was big chunks and giggling. She told me that they couldn't comp my meal even tho I told her I lost my appetite and more than half of the food was still there. But that she could give me a discount. $43 for the bill... She deducted $1.57. what the hell ever happened to decent family owned businesses that would comp or even apologize for that matter? I didn't even get that.
