I stopped in here for the first time, and I have to say the service was great and the food was outstanding. I ordered the skillet sliders. They were so ridiculously good that I ordered another round... and then somehow another. Before I knew it, I'd inhaled nine sliders like I was training for the Olympic Competitive Munchies Team. Mission accomplished--the munchies were officially defeated. I paid my tab, waddled out the door, and went to smoke another dooby. Now I'm sitting here wondering... after this next dooby, am I about to march right back in there and order another round of sliders? The odds are looking pretty good. Happy trails, buckaroos! We walked into the Skillet around 5:45pm, were assaulted by loud music (which we expected from another review), and sat at the bar in the quieter room of the restaurant. We ordered a burrito, fries and drinks - a Manhattan for my wife and a chocolate martini with Kettle One and crème de cacao for me. My wife's drink was to her liking, but the chocolate martini tasted like there was coffee liqueur in it. Since I didn't know when our waitress would appear again, I told the first person we saw - a young man - that I couldn't drink anything with coffee because of the caffeine, and that I needed it remade. He took it back to redo. While we were waiting, one of the pool players dropped a very loud f-bomb when he missed a shot. Then a young child began crying very loudly. The young man came back with the remade drink, and the coffee taste was gone. After it had been over 45 minutes I had to ask what looked like the manager what had happened to our burrito and fries. She went back to check, and our food finally appeared. The burritos were long on rice and short on carne asada, something we couldn't know until we started eating. At some point our original waitress came back, and my wife told her we had to send back my first drink because of the coffee ingredient. She denied any coffee-containing spirit was used, and walked away. We never saw her again. I had to ask the manager for an itemized ticket, since the ones we had were sign for a total amount only, with no itemized detail. Since the original waitress had closed out our ticket right after we ordered and had given us our check, we paid and left. No tip was left. If you want a properly-mixed drink, be prepared to explicitly request every ingredient. Better still, don't expect great drinks or food at this place - stay away. I like the environment and energy here. They have indoor seating and an outdoor seating area that is dog friendly. We went here for a celebration and they accommodated us with a large table. The food options are very much and grill still but lots of amazing options. They safe are exceptionally nice. You get a lot of food for what you pay. Great energy and great vibes. Stopped in at this crazy place while we were on a road trip. Sat out on the back patio, which was very nice and dog friendly. Lots of interesting art to look at all around us very friendly staff who made great suggestions on our food choices. When staying in Las Vegas last week, we decided to check this place out for dinner. Walking in, this place has a super funky vibe, including the oversized donkey head above the bar (we later found out that the owner owns a metal work shop next door, and it's his artwork on the walls). We decided to sit at the bar. The bartenders were great - super helpful, checked in regularly, made recommendations, and poured us 'mystery shots' (I won't ruin it, but we tried two different mystery shots, and they were vastly different from one another in a fun way). I started with a margarita, then opted for a beer (pretty good tap list/options). On the food front, I opted for tacos - and picked three different ones. I had the pork belly taco (pork belly, cheese, lettuce, pickled cabbage and spicy mayo), shrimp and corn taco (shrimp, corn, feta, pickled onion, cabbage and chipotle ranch), and the townie (ground beef, cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo, sour cream). They were all very flavorful, and filling. My husband opted for the dragon bowl (chicken, rice, bell peppers, cabbage, snap peas, scrambled eggs, and topped generously with cheese). Walked in and it had quite the scent, like dirty drains/perhaps sewage (disclaimer, I'm pregnant so extra sensitive). A girl met us at the door with menus and let us know to order at the counter. We ordered and sat down. Food came out quick. We shared the Queso Dip - it was good flavor, little spicy. I didn't love the texture of the cheese, kind of gritty, but the flavor was great and chips great. I got Barbacoa Taco and my dad got a classic taco. They were good. Mine a little dry but put a lil queso on there and that was perfect. Loved the tortilla they use. One thing I didn't like, the kitchen had their music BLASTING, could hear that better than the dinning room music. Very overstimulating with two very different types of music going. read more

We went for a late lunch and early dinner. The restaurant is artsy, eclectic and very cool. You order at the counter and then take a seat. Mr. B ordered the Kronic Chicken Burrito. A flour tortilla filled with mashed potatoes, corn, fried chicken and gravy. It was really quite good. I ordered the Three Sister's Taco. A vegetarian taco filled with green chile, black beans, corn, zucchini, and cheese. We shared the Elote Fries. An unhealthy, but scrumptious plate of crispy fries covered in cheese sauce, corn, and feta cheese. We would definitely eat here again. read more

Upon admiring the glowing reviews of this place, in the 4.5 star range, I was compelled to stop in and try it on my way from Colorado Springs to Clovis, NM tonight. To do so, I was forced to muster enough enthusiasm to ignore the uninviting exterior, the horrendously tacky and dirty interior, the chairs and tables that all rock amply; one table I sat at nearly fell over. It's as though no one cares about their own restaurant, or in the ?? 100 years that they've been open? No one ever remembered to check for wobbly tables and poor lighting. The decor, if there could be intentionality in all of this chaos might be summed up as Mexico Mardi Gras, if such a thing exists. But with 4.5 reviews, I ignore all of this and hold out faith for the food. There must be something redeeming about this establishment to get 4.5 stars. The food: rare is it to find a place specializing, in this case, in tacos where they're patently inedible. If all I served was pancakes and I couldn't make a decent pancake, I'd be in a world of trouble. The first bite: Solid Gristle, like biting into a bicycle inner tube. I spit it out into a napkin. (see photo) The second bite: solid gristle. Napkin 2. The third bite, solid gristle. Napkin 3. The fourth bite: edible, but it wasn't tasty and had a strange odor and taste to it. I left with more inedible pieces of rubbery, low grade reject meat wrapped in napkins on the table than I consumed. And this came to with 2 tiny dishes of canned-quality beans and rice?: $14.86. I can honestly say that I was hankering for a Del taco or even Taco Bell after this putrid food. Nothing to complain about here. We asked for a grilled shrimp burrito (not on the menu) and out it came, perfectly formed with rice and a springling of black beans. It was big enough to share. We asked for no cheese but recanted and got some green chile queso for dipping. Perfect and washed down with a silvercoin margarita. Service was very agreeable and efficient. This restaurant has very tasty food and good service. I had three different tacos: carne asada, pork belly, fish tacos. They were all great! And surprisingly they were big too! I was stuffed after eating them! Regarding the atmosphere, the side bar itself was only open at the time (perhaps due to the construction). Neat place, but the food is inedible. Ordered the 'Reuben' and 'Brisket Tacos'. The 'meat' (still unsure what it was supposed to be) was so dry and chewy that the spouse and I both assumed it to be bacon, or even jerky. Chewing through it was near impossible. Attempted two bites and that was it. As for the tacos....they were just flavorless mush. Seriously, if you're going to prepare brisket, at least read up on the concepts of SEASONING and TRIMMING. Fatty, flavorless brisket is what you'll get, so if that's your thing.... And the 'slaw' and 'corn'....yikes. The slaw was a purple, flavorless mush that had sat so long the crisp of the cabbage was long gone, and the corn was just cold white kernels, something they could have improved on with a 30 second pass over a flame. Overall, the dish was just a mouthful of mush, with a semi-chewy shell. Recommendation? Eat elsewhere. The food during our visit was revolting. read more

I'm 1,000% sure that most of these ratings are from friends of the owner or were paid. There is no way that many people are excited or impressed by a dive bar that makes you order at a counter. It wasn't very busy but still took 10 minutes to get chips and salsa. The rest of our order never arrived after 37 minutes so we paid for the chips and salsa and left. The jist- inconsistency. no one checks the ticket before if leaves and it's Russian roulette if your meal is done right. I'm sorry to give this ranking because the menu is creative and the food can be amazing. But when it's bad it's ... trashcanable. I'll likely try once more but then give up. This visit- Chile fries enjoyed but the chopped broccoli salad was completely different from last time I came. It looked nicer than last time but tasted mediocre instead of amazing. The breakfast taco was normal and great for them. My egg roll in a bowl was awful! I've had a bite of it before from someone else and it was amazing but mine was so burnt all you tasted was charcoal. Very unique find in this small town. The art inside is very interesting (see pics). You walk up to a bill board sign, decide what you want, then step up to order counter, then place your order. Good outside sitting, except they allow smoking, you can see the old guy puffing away. My Chicken burrito was big $10, good taste, & plenty of food for me, being on a bike don't want to over do it. Great selection of beers even had my favorite Scotia from Bosque brewery. Big variety of people here families, old guys, yoga ladies, bikers, looked like a group of older tea ladies. Music was strange but I am more concerned about the food. Mask are required when entering/ordering/going to bathroom & enforced. **Give them a try if you are passing through. Charlie's was closed for a "mental health day." So we headed over to the Skillet. They have enormous amounts of space, including a large patio and plenty of room indoors. We had a quesadilla that had meat and cheese in it. While the portion was generous, we thought overall it was just OK. The bathrooms are not very clean. The chips are House made and done in a very thick style. I thought they were OK but the queso was mediocre to poor. The staff is friendly, but we were a little disappointed that we had to drag ourselves back into the restaurant to request a lemonade refill. read more
