Went in to replace a part and order part for a mower purchased here. When purchased we were told it was a "commercial " mower and could handle 25 lawns per week. Looked at larger commercial mower bc current mower keeps having issues. Was willing to drop the 3k on 30" commercial mower but wanted to trade in smaller mower. Sonny said that we were never told we bought a commercial mower. He (owner) basically called us liars. No reason to lie. As he wasn't sales person, he has no idea what we were told. Sonny (owner) was rude and unprofessional. I then shared we Just dropped 25k out east on 2 big mowers and then told to go there. I have a scag mower and the model number is wore off except for the last two letters. I'm pretty sure we could find the model number and part based off that info. I need hundreds and hundreds in parts and may even be looking to buy new. Instead of looking up the model number I think it is, the guy on the phone chose to interrupt me and say "Can't do nothing without the model number" He was not going to even remotely help. Worst fucking experience of my life go in there to go get parts for a lawnmower and they return the one part that I got wrong and then I them the model and serial number for my exact lawnmower. Have them order me an air filter cover, and then they get the wrong tell me on the phone that they will cover it since it was their fuck up and then I go in the store to return it and they say they won't do it because they ordered it and that it's my mistake and basically told me to go fuck myself. Hilliard Lawn & Garden has been in business for over 50 years for a reason. Last year I purchased a new aerator and seeder and have been pleased with the equipment and service I have received . Both pieces of equipment have had a maintenance issues (caused by user error) and their service department repaired both pieces within 24 to 48 hours. I just went in today to look at buying a new mower, the person behind the counter that was supposed to help me was no help. Did not come from around the counter to explain or try and sell me a mower just gave me random prices and that's it. I even kinda stood around pacing seeing if he was going to show and sell me machine and nothing! I eventually walked out and went to Home Depot. I'm a business owner/landscaper and Spent $22,000 on brand new mowers and went to start it the first sight and it wouldn't start. Take the air filter out and it is soaked in oil. Didn't even get to use it once and called the place and they try to act like it was our fault even though it's been in an enclosed trailer. The cashier lady also acted like we are thieves after the owner gave us some flowers and chased us down and asked if we are suppose to be taking those. Horrible, I spent a bunch of money to get A brand-new mower to get out in the field at a clients property and it won't even start I inspected the air filter and it was soaked in brand new engine oil. When I called and explain the situation to the owner he said well that's not possible because the mower wouldn't start. I said the mower did not start sir. I had to throw a new air filter from one of my other mowers onto that one to make it work. He was very rude and unprofessional I won't be returning and wouldn't recommend this business. No problems here. Josh was professional and took time to research the best price for the mower I wanted to buy. Their equipment is not inexpensive but is of good quality. If you want cheap go to Walmart or Target. I purchased a Bobcat ZTR mower that was not in stock. They sent a driver out to the distributor to pick it up and they prepared it and delivered it to my home within four hours. Be sure to negotiate the setup charge, especially if you're able to pay cash. Also, be patient as they can get quite busy and they like spending the necessary time with each customer. When they fixed our mower they drained a full tank of gas to put in special winter gas to hold through the winter without asking us and made it seem like a favor. Had been BUYING and bringing our lawn and snow equipment here for years to be serviced in summer and fall. Sonny always has been arrogant, but we just figured that was his personality. Last year end of May we bought a new toro lawn mower from them for $400. Has not worked right since we bought it. Was back into his shop four times last year as it stops when you are mowing.... sounds like it struggles to keep running. Has been back twice this year in addition to the summer tune up. Last time it was in (right after tune up, no less) Sonny said the carburetor had dirt in it and if it came in again they would charge us. Considering they were the last ones to work on it and it is in our garage all the time and it had JUST come back from them, one would assume that the dirt came from them or they did not do what they were supposed to when they had it for spring tune up. Went to mow today and guess what......it stopped again. Will NOT be taking it back to Sonny as they obviously can't get it fixed correctly and quite frankly do not want to deal with his attitude. Extremely poor customer service. We have taken it to another shop for repair. We will NEVER deal with his company again, but you know what? He wanted to tack an additional $2 on for a $4.95 bolt when paying with a credit card. When I questioned him, he said "the fact that you don't have cash isn't my problem." Owner was insulting, intimidating, and got physical, and tried to pick a fight with me My story is a bit long, but a lot happened. Please bear with me. My chainsaw would not start. After tuning up my chainsaw I was still unable to start it, so I went to Hillard Lawn and Garden. I dropped off my Echo chainsaw on July 5th 2013 for service. I told the technician that I could not start the chainsaw and wanted them to fix it so the chainsaw would start. The technician told me a tune-up would cost me $75. I thought this was pricey, but agreed. After receiving a call that my chainsaw was ready, I picked it up on the morning of July 6th 2013. The bill was $107.73, which was much higher than the estimate I got when dropping off the chainsaw, but I paid. Inside the store they had a dog tied up that kept growling at the customers, and the folks at the desk treated me with a cold and dismissive attitude. I took the chainsaw home, tried to start it, and it still would not start. I immediately returned to Hilliard Lawn and Garden. At their service desk I explained the problem. They told me to drop off the saw and they would look at it. I asked them for some additional details. I also asked the service desk why the bill was higher than quoted, and I also asked if they actually test their work after finished. The second I questioned the quality of their work, the owner came over and told me he didn't like my attitude. He started to question me in a condescending tone. I told him I just wanted somebody to try and start my chainsaw. After he raised his voice to me again, I told him I would take my business elsewhere and have the charges removed from my card. Now here is where it gets weird. The owner FOLLOWED me outside and started insulting me. He told me he didn't like my attitude. He asked if I was too "...poor and white trash..." to afford the $107.73 bill. He got inches from my face and continued to insult me in his parking lot. He even asked me if I wanted to fight and kept yelling at me to shut up. He also stated that I was "... probably too stupid to start the chainsaw." I handed him my chainsaw and asked him to start it. He pulled and pulled, fiddled with the choke, but couldn't start the chainsaw either. When I asked for my saw back and reached for it, he put the saw behind his back and SHOULDER-CHECKED me. I looked to my right and saw he had two of his hired goons standing there, looking like they were all ready to jump me. Once he finally handed me back my chainsaw, I left immediately to have the charges taken off of my card. read more

The discussion quickly turned into an argument. He went back on many thing he said before and once again was extremely unprofessional. This business has no idea what customer service is. My mower is still broken, and Hilliard lawn and garden did not find a resolution. I personally contacted the manufacturer, where they discredited what and how Hilliard lawn and garden tried fixing my mower. They suggested I work with another dealer, Voss Bros. So far they have helped me more in two days then Hillard lawn and garden has over the past two weeks. Don't waste your time or money with this company. read more

Went to HL&G to buy an electronic part. Looked very different from original. $50+. 2 people behind the desk told me that they normally won't take electronic parts on return but since this part looks so different and if I don't actually install it, they would take it back. There were 3 separate employees that had helped with the issue. I brought it home, set it in place and it did not fit. I brought it back. When I walked in, the older man (owner or manager I assume) asked what I had. I showed him. He stated that they don't take those on return. One of the guys behind the desk told this man that he told me I could bring it back. The old guy gave the employee a mean look and went to his office. I stepped to the counter. Explained that item did not fit. They told me I had to buy an additional item to make what I bought work. This would have put me into $65 for parts to an old mower. I told them I would just like to return the part. Then the very same people that assured me that they would take the return refused to give me my money back. No matter how many times I repeated that they told me I could, they kept refusing and then told me to read the receipt. Lesson: don't take the employee's word when they commit to you. Read the fine print. They ripped me off years ago similarly but I thought I'd give them another chance. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice... Will not give this business another red cent and neither should you. read more

He tried to sell us the one in the showroom. We noticed the fan blade that was metal was rusted and the mower was all scratched up. It was last years model. The reason we knew this was because the one in the crate the fan blade was plastic. He tried to sell us this piece of junk for the price of a new one! We should have left then, but didn't. We bought the lawn mower and loved it. The bag wasn't in stock. When they recived it Josh called and said I could pick it up. I went to pick it up and it was in a huge box that would't fit in my car. I ask Josh if he could deliver it since we lived 2 miles away He said it would be two or three weeks. I said that was fine. This was a $1,802.78 sale. This guy is the most arrogant and nasty man I have ever delt with. Then out of no where in his nasty tone he said "why don't I just come and pick up the mower" I said fine and left. When I got home he called me and said I needed to come back and sign paperwork. I said I couldn't come back until the next day. Then he said he would be at my house in a few minutes to get the mower. This creep wanted me to come back to inconvenience me. He knew I could sign the papers when he picked up the mower. When he got to my house he said he was going to deduct $100.00 from my refund because we used it twice. I don't think this is fair because it's not my fault he would't deliver the bag. He was being a arrogant ass. The owner is a jerk too! I have already contacted the BBB and the Attorney General. I honestly don't know how this place stays in business. Took my Honda mover in for tune up. Had to return three times due to poor work. They had BAD attitudes when dealing with me on my return visits. Several staff members acted like they were doing me a favor and not like a valued customer. After the third time and the problem persisted (they added that they were NOT an authorized Honda service ctr...wonder why they didn't tell me that up front), I took the mower to an Authorized Honda dealer. They quickly determined the Carb was bad and ordered a new one for under $20. The mower now runs as good as new again. I understand sometimes mistakes will be made but their POOR customer service along with their BAD attitudes will prevent me from ever returning. read more
