The results received were atrociously bad. My husband requested his dress shirt be converted to French cuffs - which just requires adding another buttonhole opposite the first on the cuff. The stitches are uneven, widely spaced, and ragged. I could have done better by hand. We requested my daughter have a matching tube top sewn into her jumpsuit. The tube top was only tacked into the pants of the jumpsuit with a total of 16 stitches (4 in front, in back, and on each side), which literally pulled out completely when I just gently moved the fabric to look at the stitches. It was useless. The tube top was also tacked at the wrong length - for some reason, the tube top was stitched in halfway up the top, which means that for the tube top to fit over daughter's chest, she had to wear the pants pulled up just under her bust, instead of at her waist where they were supposed to fit. So I guess it was lucky that the stitches came out for us, because if it had been sewn in properly at the wrong spot, it would have been more effort to fix their shoddy work. I did not go in with husband and daughter to order the tailoring or pick it up, so could not correct it at the time, but I'm not sure how it was all done so poorly and wrongly. We will never go near this store again. read more

I can't really tell you how long Hill's has been a staple to the West side, but the sign is a reflection of years of time passed. When you walk into Hill's there are garments just about everywhere. Either completed products, or garments awaiting some TLC. The owner Juanita is always hard at work behind her old school sewing machine, or ironing/press board as the TV blares in the background to help her with the monotony of her day in threads and needles. Pins litter the corners of the floor from years of quick work. It's not be any means a place of pristine organization, but she is the master of the madness... an artist. I brought a bridesmaid dress here to be altered in both skirt hem and sleeve alterations. No sooner than I put the dress on in the private dressing area with full length mirrors, did Juanita have everything pinned and ready to go in a matter of a couple minutes. I paid and was on my way. (Yes, upfront payment is required. Not a bad thing, just a product of the area and trustworthiness of previous patrons.) I will tell you though that her alterations in no way broke my bank. In fact, they were MUCH cheaper than what I was expecting to dish out by at least 50% and you could even say 100% cheaper than a bridal shop altering in comparison. Juanita also has a great rapport with the local community. I saw folks bringing in jackets to be mended, and other articles and they were all on a first name basis, which shows she has returning customers. A testament of her quality and pricing. In the end, my dress was completed and fit superbly. Juanita saved the day, in record time and in the most affordable sense that money can buy! Hill's is definitely my go-to for future alterations! read more

I was graduating and was just able purchase my suit a day before. I called and asked about the turnaround time. The normal turnaround would have been after the time I needed it for the ceremony. I just needed my pants hemmed as they were a bit too long. I was congratulated and asked if I can come right then. Luckily I could. She got me pinned and had my pants finished in an extremely timely manner. I can appreciate the price and would have been happy to pay more given the situation. Contrary to the reports of some yelpers (competitors?), this location is open and running with no plans to close any time in the foreseeable future as of today, February 4, 2020. This is a one woman operation with reasonable prices. I'm a repeat customer and have been very happy with her work. On one occasion she "borrowed" a measurement from another pair of my pants. On this occasion, the length was not perfect but she rehemmed them for free. She will take your measurements if you ask and has a nice private fitting room with a platform and a mirror. The shop is clean with handy parking. I know she has done alterations discounted or free for unemployed people, so she has a good heart. This is a locally owned business without some corporation taking a slice of the profits. read more

So I was hesitant to bring my Sheep skin coat here. Heard about this place from Ole Boy. He likes anything cheap. Cheap isn't always good, you get what you pay for. But, I was desperate. I had already been to 3 reputable places with no luck. All turned me away because they didn't have the right type of machine to restitch a seam that had unraveled in the front area. Ole Boy assured me each of his three dealings with Hill Alterations were above average. On one of those occasions, Hills Alterations did the work for free because it involved a Charitable Organization. NOT saying they always do this, but in his case they did. Thumbs up! The location may not be convenient for most, suffice to say, its on the far west side of town. Big parking lot on side. Walk past bus stop to enter shop. Inside, lots of clothes everywhere. One lady busy on the machine. She takes a minute to stop what she is doing and comes over to the counter. Looks at the coat. Says she can do it. $7!!! I'm thinking seriously?? That is REAL CHEAP.....may not be a good sign. Remember you get what you pay for. I hand over my coat anyway and she hands me my receipt, tossing my coat in a pile of other clothes. At that moment, having second thoughts about doing business here. Turns out I was wrong about my impression. Three days later, as scheduled, my coat was repaired. Dam good job. She said she wished it was better, but to me it looked really good. In this case, it was cheap and good. I gave her a tip. read more

She's as good as the other guys I've used around town that have charged closer to $40 for the same alterations - and she gets my shirts done in about three or four days. So my review is a little late, having had a pair of pants altered a long time ago, so the seamstress may be better at what she does now - I hope she is! Anyway, I had a pair of jeans I wanted to hem and taper. These were 19oz/square yard (typical jeans are 12 and under) bad boys. Given the high weight and how thick they were, I knew it was going to a difficult job for most places, but the lady said no problem. I'll break down where things went wrong on both alterations individually: Hem: Length was right as I requested. These jeans have a specific hem stitching pattern called a chainstitch that creates a pulling pattern on the hem as the jeans age. Since there are only a few machines in the whole US that can reproduce this pattern correctly, I knew I'd have to give that up since I didn't want to pay 2 way shipping + $40. This was significantly cheaper and much more convenient. That aside, the single stitch hem she did was pretty darn crooked. Taper: This was were I was really disappointed with the job. The jeans I brought in have a selvedge OUTseam that I wanted to preserve. Therefore, I asked her SPECIFICALLY if she could taper them from the INseam. Most taper jobs are from the outseam because it's much easier to work with the stitching on the outseam rather than the overlapped nature on the inseam. She said sure thing. Well guess which side the job was done on? Yep, the outseam, totally destroying the selvedge. For people familiar with dry denim, this meant no traintracks on fades...a HUGE part of dry denim's appeal. Adding to that - the lining of the denim was not even straight. Lots of lumps and bumps as the pants were not lined up correctly. To top this all off, while I should have checked them in store, but since I wanted to get out of there as fast as I could after seeing the horror job she did on my jeans, the taper stitching COMPLETELY came apart on BOTH legs. She didn't even lock the stitch down. I had gotten all the way home and had to drive all the way back to get it fixed. Luckily she did it immediately. But all she said was "oops" and just laughed. Not cool. For my specialized jeans, I was easily expecting to pay $50+ as I have in the past for similar jobs. Total here was only $17. I had high expectations based on all the great reviews on Yelp, but perhaps I should have expected that with such a niche piece of clothing. The place probably isn't too bad for regular clothing, but never again for me. read more

I got a dress altered here. I decided to come here because it was closest to my home. The lady was very nice and quick . But to my surprise, the price was way higher than the other stores I received quotes on. I was only getting my dress hemmed so was surprised I had to spend half of what I spent on my dress. The hemming was done at the length we agreed. However, there were some stray threads at the bottom. It actually got caught on my heel straps and unwounded a bit. With cheaper options, I don't think I would be back here. read more

I have come to her 2 times, the first was for a winter formal dress and she did some simple alterations the 2nd was very recently and it was a prom dress. This dress was a mess and there was so many things wrong with it and i only had 2 weeks till prom. One seamstress said "its no much" and pushed us out the other people we went to over exaggerated my dress and were like "OHH 7-NO 8 LAYERS" and told us it would be $150 to fix the top and the dress would cost approximately $350 which costed more than the dress its self. We then found her again and went to her, she cut and hemmed the 7-8 layers of fabric, make the dress tighter to me, lifted it up so it wasn't sagging, and stitched the very deep V up a bit and it only costed $75. This lady is the most amazing seamstress I have ever gone to and who ever says her prices are to much, you are a joke. She is the best and we rounded it up to $100 because this lady is so amazing. I DO NOT recommend this place. It is the FILTHIEST store front I've ever been in. There are piles of "stuff" everywhere. There is visible dirt and dust on everything. The fitting room has dust balls all over the floor. How can you possible alter formal gowns, white wedding dresses and tuxedos in such a dirty place? When I entered the store, there was a customer ahead of me. The tailor told her the garment wasn't ready yet and to return the following day. My 2 pairs of pants were supposed to be ready on Wednesday. And of course...they weren't ready just like the other customer. The tailor said she only had to complete a blouse, then she'll get my pants complete. I returned Thursday. Surprise! They still weren't ready, but she was actively working on a pair of pants that didn't belong to me. So the day before you said only a blouse was ahead of me but now you're working on pants??? Way to make a customer feel like a priority! Finally my pants were complete Friday. I really blame myself for trusting an establishment that has an inferior cleaning policy during a pandemic, and didn't have another customer's garment completed timely. If you want cleanliness and timeliness, this place will not work for you. There are other tailors who do great work and value their customers. read more
