The staff are wonderful and the "cutters" do their best to make selecting and cutting the tree a magical experience. They start the tree cutting for you, with their own saws (you don't need to bring your own), so the tree regrows properly - but they each let us take turns. Not as easy as they make it look! So helpful at every step of the process - including free wrapping and tying it to the car. We found a beautiful 9' Turkish Nordman with blue hues on the bottom and it has barely dropped any needles after the initial shaking!! read more

I recommend going the weekend right after Thanksgiving, that's when you'll snag the best tree, but honestly the farm is so big it takes our family 2+ hours to walk it so I'm sure you'll find a good tree anytime. I also recommend bringing cash to tip the cutters who cut your tree and bring it to the front for you. They also usually have a cash only line to pay for your tree which moves way faster than the credit card only line. What a great experience! There's no cost to enter. You simply walk around the farm and check out the trees and see which one you want. When you find one you like, you simply yell, "CUTTER!" and one magically appears before you with a scythe. If you're shy, you can wait for one of the cutters to walk by yelling, "Anyone need a cutter?" That works too. This farm has so many different varieties to choose from. I wanted a Noble fir but ended up selecting a silver tip. All trees cost the same no matter what kind you get or how tall it is. Once your tree is cut, he brings it to the line for you. You pay. They shake the tree in a contraption to remove dry needles. Then after you pay, they tie the tree up and give you some rope so you can tie it down your car. Easy peasy. Don't forget to tip your cutter. They work hard! So much better than just picking a tree from a parking lot. I want to come back every year! read more

This is our 3rd year going to this tree farm for our Christmas tree. We enjoy going through and finding our perfect tree. All the trees are mixed in various sizes so if you are wanting an "orderly" experience this is probably not for you. Trees are the same price regardless of size. There's ample parking with multiple lots but it does get busy. Great customer service, everyone was friendly. We prefer to get our tree here versus a home improvement store bc of the experience. read more

Trees are tiny and sparse, not filled out. Didn't know price until we got there and saw 'all trees are $111'. Left annoyed and with no tree. Trees aren't even instagram worthy if you have a significant other whos into that and holiday photos. Oh ya surrounding spots are even more. Santa Cruz mtns have them for $75 and let you cut them down yourself loll in the Bay Area no less!!!! read more

Our first time at an authentic Christmas Tree farm was everything we hoped it would be. Since we go to apple hill every September we discovered they also have tree farms for the holidays. After extensive research we settled on hillside tree farm for their abundance of trees. The weather was perfect, 30 degrees, snow/ice on the ground and a little Christmas cheer in the air. My wife and I walked around for a good hour before deciding on a 9 FT tall tree. All trees regardless of size are $90 but if you mention their website they have a $5 off coupon. Once we located our tree we had a cutter take it down for us, wrapped it and even loaded it on our vehicle. This is the way Christmas tree shopping should be. Forget about buying your tree at a hardware, grocery or whatever kind of store. Going to an actual tree farm just adds more Christmas tree to your holiday celebration! My husband & I are newly relocated to Folsom, CA. On the Friday after Thanksgiving, on our way to Red Hawk Casino, we noticed a lot of cars coming down Highway 50 with fresh Christmas trees. This prompted me to come home & research cut-your-own tree farms in the area. I found Hillside among many others online. They had a $10 off coupon & fabulous prices listed on their webpage. We decided to head up there today, Sat. Nov. 27,2010, and have a look around. Hillside is easy to find, per the directions provided online, & has a gorgeous selection of Christmas treees! There's a variety for every taste. We arrived at 2 pm, and it just started snowing as we pulled in. We spent 2 hours looking through the trees, in the snow, finally selecting a beautiful Silver Tip. The tree was cut & carried to the cashier by a young man, who also bundled it up for us in netting & loaded it into out truck. While at the cashier's I also picked out a Lg. fresh pine wreath w/ ribbon, holly & pinecone decorations on it. The tree was 7 ft tall & cost us $70 OTD w/ the $10 off coupon (found on their website)...the wreath was $35 additional. I felt almost as if we were stealing it, after the prices I'd become accustomed to on the Bay Area's tree lots. We had a TON of fun in the snow and found a beautiful & unique tree to celebrate out Christmas holiday. We also have a new holiday "tradition"...go to Hillside as close after Thanksgiving as possible, when there's light snow expected. Not bad, all this is only a half hour from our new home!! Great tree farm with some really awesome people. The selection of trees, the second weekend in December no less, was still great. I had to narrow down my pick among 5 finalists, and at other tree farms it's usually 2-3 great ones. I knocked down one star because of the cost. Just a BIT on the pricey side ($80 for our 9' silver fir), but you could also get a 13' fir for the same price (which is a deal). I'll be going back next year! read more

After seeing reviews here and other places, I guess my expectations were set a little too high. $50 for a tree that was under 6 ft., we had a coupon from their website too, a train ride across the road that nobody mentioned w/out our asking, no Santa, no free candy canes. I read their site thinking we'd be getting free drinks, candy canes, see Santa (even told he was driving the train when we were there, he wasn't) all after we used our $10 coupon and bought a tree. We go there every year and have always had a great experience getting our tree. Everyone is very cheerful and helpful. Once in a while we luck out and it actually has snowed while we were there which our kids loved! Great tree selection. The guy cutting the tree for us helped us get the tree down and they wrapped it for us. There is a small Christmas shop there that a young lady has and has been doing it for several years. She has cold drinks and hot chocolate and snacks to sell and a selection of different things she is selling. She is a doll and even handed out candy canes to our kids. You can tell she is very proud of her little shop! She said she has been doing it since she was 7 and most of the money she makes goes to her college savings. I thought she was great! We took the kids on the train ride and they loved it! We lucked out and Santa was driving the train! Then we headed over to Boa Vista and had some pie! read more

Horrible layout all the trees were intermingled with each other and pricing was $60-80 depending on tree type but no matter the size. Hillside tree farm is pretty good. They have many trees, although several of them were dying or scrawny, but I think that was because of the drought. They have many types from silver tips to noble. It wasn't very muddy either. It was easy to get a cutter and they packaged the tree for free and did a good job. There are also some really pretty wreaths.
