Cute and chill, but the cat situation was a bit much ---------------- The Harris Family Farm was cute! My husband and I went on a Friday, the day before their Lavender Days event. We tried the lavender lemonade slushy and it was super refreshing. We were the only ones there, and pulling up was a little confusing since it looks very home-y, and we weren't totally sure where things were happening. They had a nice little selection of goodies for sale, and overall the vibe was really chill. However... there was a cat hanging around that became a bit of a deal-breaker. It climbed right up on the table where the utensils, napkins, and bagged chips were -- literally sat on the chip bags like it owned the place. Clearly not its first time doing that. who wants cat booty on their food? I'm all for farm animals and pets, but I don't think they should be around areas where food is being handled or served -- especially where straws and napkins are kept. Then our drink came out with a straw already in it, and while it was brought from the kitchen, it made me wonder if the cat's allowed back there too. They also mentioned a flower garden we could check out, which we did but it took only a few minutes, and then we headed out. Overall, it's a relaxing little spot, but not much to do, and the food hygiene situation needs some serious work. I definitely don't want cat butt near my snacks. read more

We have gone to Harris tree farm faithfully for over 30 years to select and cut our Christmas tree. We always stop in the bake shop and enjoy the apple cider donuts, tamales, and cider. It's a great way to take a break from the hustle and bustle in town and enjoy being outdoors for a day. read more

My family and I love this farm. It's by far the best farm in the Apple Hill area. It's a little further away from the other farms but worth it. They have apple picking, Christmas trees, flower picking, pumpkin patch and even Santa Claus. I'm sure I'm missing a lot. We come specifically for the tamales and the jams they sell. They also have mini donuts and pies. The employees are so amazing and friendly. Their pricing on everything is also pretty reasonable. read more

Off the beaten path and away from the crowds. I love supporting smaller businesses and they were lovely and worth driving for a slower paced vibe. On this sunny and cooler Sunday, they had live music. I had a tamale before my drive back down to Reno I was given a Nevada resident discount having mentioned this. I also had an order of the freshly made mini apple cider (yum) and slice of apple pie to enjoy later. Edit to add: the slice of apple pie I enjoyed at home was the BEST I have ever had down to the end thick crust. I will be thinking about this piece of deliciousness for a while. read more

Looked at the Apple Hill website and saw that Harris Family Farm (formerly Harris Tree Farm) had a "pick off the vine" Pumpkin Patch. The cutest! Of course we took cute pictures of toddler with the pumpkins. He enjoyed batting at the leaves and poking at the pumpkins. Thank you kind staff for letting us know where the pumpkins were located (straight beyond the fence next to the pie shop). There's friendly bees and honey being produced nearby. These were very friendly bees, not bothersome at all. We arrived early to beat the crowds and unfortunately didn't have a huge appetite so I can't say anything about the pies. Next time! Very chill place. There's a Hipcamp system in place to reserve a spot for your camping desires. read more

This place is adorable. When we went, there were a solid amount of Golden Delicious apples still to pick at about $3/pound. There were blackberries, flowers, and pumpkins as well in early October. They have a small selection of other apples and bakery items. The mini donuts are yummy. read more

Visited Apple Hill last weekend and followed some internet advice to start east and move west, which is the opposite of what most people coming from the Sac area normally do. This advice was perfect, and we arrived at Harris Tree Farm, one of the furthest east Apple Hill farms, at around 9 AM with virtually no other visitors there. Parking was easy, and we were greeted immediately to experience Harris Farm. Harris Tree Farm is a small family owned farm and there isn't a ton to do around this time of year if you don't have a Christmas Tree reservation, but they have a nice little shop with plenty to eat or take home! The family running the shop was super nice, welcomes us immediately, and gave us some recommendations on what to get. We ended up with a dozen mini apple cider donuts for just $5 and some goodies to bring home: apple butter & jalapeno blackberry jam. The apple cider donuts were great! They came out within a few minutes and were fresh and warm! The guy who served them to us apologized that they may be too cinnamon-y, but no such thing! They were super delicious and the majority of the dozen went down almost immediately. We saved a few for the car ride home, and while not as good cold, they were still pretty solid! The apple butter was also a hit on Thanksgiving. Great on bread or on your Thanksgiving leftover sandwiches. I'm looking forward to trying it more! And also looking forward to trying out the blackberry jalapeno jelly. Bonus: there was a very friendly cat on the farm and at least one dog. Just went here for one of their High Tea events and it was great! It's such a beautiful setting and the food was absolutely AMAZING! The tea service came with Dill Cumber Sandwiches, Egg Salad Sandwiches, Caprese Salad, Roasted Beets and Carrots, Blueberry Salsa (!!), Lavender donuts, blueberry scones (right out of the oven), lemon balm cookies, and everyone's favorite the Blueberry Nectarine Tart! Lovely staff and even more wonderful grounds! We came at the end of October to scope out Christmas tree farms for a family photoshoot, and I instantly feel in love with Harris Tree Farm. There were so many trees of different colors and varieties, and the farm is huge so people could easily spread out. They were also doing tree cutting by appointment only starting after Thanksgiving, which ensured even less foot traffic for further safety. I talked to the staff about taking some photos here, and they were very accommodating and friendly about it. While we were here, we checked out their bake shop and had a slice of pie and mini apple cider donuts. Both were exceptional! We actually just had a slice of pie earlier in the day at Boa Vista that was really mushy and underwhelming, so when I saw their pies here looking so enticing in the glass case, I just had to order one. I'm very glad I did because it was great - nice thick crisp crust, loaded with flavorful apples, and great apple texture. I highly recommend grabbing a frozen pie for later! Their bake shop also featured savory food items like tamales and soups, which is always a nice balance to the sugary items all over Apple Hill. There were lots of picnic tables outside for outdoor dining, and parking seemed to be plentiful, perhaps it's because it's a little off the main Apple Hill roads. I really liked it because it wasn't too crowded! This is definitely going on my list of places to revisit on my next trip to Apple Hill! read more

Very pleasant people. Their property is beautiful, surrounded by tall beautiful lush trees. We brought a baby so the fact that it wasn't crowded and had the freedom to take in the sites without so much going on was great. Baby and grown-ups weren't over stimulated for our first pumpkin patch run with my grandbebe. They provide red wagons for you to haul your pumpkins from the patch to the car. Just make sure you close and lock the gate behind you, so that Daisy the deaf dog doesn't get out. She's super sweet. Greets you then once acknowledged is well on her way and let's you peruse the pumpkin patch on your own. Theres a flower garden, they welcome you to cut your own flowers for $10 for 20 stems. There was an area where I think they allowed local girl scouts come and decorate their own scare crows..there was SpongeBob and Patrick, Hocus Pocus witches, etc. They offer hot food like hot dogs, hot cider etc. I tried their lavender lemonade that was refreshing. They also provide picnic tables and a place for kids to paint their pumpkins if they wish. We purchased some homemade jams from their barn turned store/kitchen. I bought some granny Smith apples too and oh how juicy and crisp and sweet they are. It was a great post visit after an over crowded Abel's Acres apple donuts run. read more

Great spot for cut your own Christmas trees. There's variety and plenty of parking. It is a only a 10-15 min drive from the heart of apple hill but it makes a difference. It's a little quieter and more serene with steady flow of people but less crowds. There's a cute little shop, grab some hot apple cider! Santa was there when we visited which was nice. My husband grew up getting his Christmas trees here as a child and insisted that we bring our daughter to get our tree here this year. We haven't had a real tree in over ten years!! So it was quite an exciting visit for us. Upon arrival we were greeted by a very nice lady who told us we were welcome to take our daughter over to where the chickens and turkey are to take a look! They also had a cute shop with little gifts and food. We got apple cider (tried both hot and cold), and the mini apple cider donuts (they came out hot and yummy!). We enjoyed our treats at the picnic tables near the fire pit and then we took off to find our tree! The guys at the tree stand gave us an saw and a measuring stick to use while we found our tree. There was a great selection of beautiful trees! Honestly, I was a little surprised at the prices of trees, as they were a little high. However, for the experience and good service, I found that it was well worth the money. I highly recommend coming here for your tree and a fun family outing! Great trees, great people, VERY busy today, the Friday after Thanksgiving. By the looks of the traffic going back down the hill, sure to be worse as the day goes on. Excellent selection of trees. Pricing for cut your own is either 8 or 9 dollars a foot. Noble Fir and Red Fir (Silver tip) on the higher end. Don't cut anything less than 5 feet! Also note that you should always cut 1 to 2 feet above ground to allow a newly sprouted image of grandeur. The terrain up there is a bit hilly. Good weather would be a recommendation although they do a good job of covering the bare ground with wood shavings. They wrap trees at your request for 2 bucks. We put the tree on the SUV ourselves but did see staff helping out people with much heavier trees. Great place. You should try it! read more

A bit out of the way, but so peaceful and cute! We went for the U-Pick blueberries, and I don't think it was the best time to go but that's completely on us. There's cute dogs and cats that my little sister enjoyed petting, and it's not as crowded as Boa Vista or Rainbow so honestly we couldn't complain especially during the busy blueberry weekend. We were referred here by another farm in the area who informed us that they still had some apples and berries. It was our first time coming to apple hill so we were super excited because I've been wanting to come here for years but was pretty disappointed. There were very few apples left on the trees. What was left were rotten or way too small. I even called ahead to inquire if there was anything left and they told me there was. We finally found one tree that had some apples but it was a struggle tree lol. So, we decided to ask if we could pick some berries Instead and they informed us that they were all gone. I called Thursday and by Sunday there was nothing left? It definitely was not worth the 4 hour trip to get up here. read more

Had a great time at this farm, it is more farm like than most up in apple hill. The trees range in type and size mixed together so it's actually fun to trek around looking for the tree. They have wonderful snacks in the baked goods shed, including a nice lavender lemonade. To top off the experience they had live music playing which you could hear in the trees. I love this place! The people are so friendly and welcoming, the prices are reasonable and the kids love to get cider and sit by the fire pit. This is our second year getting a tree and here and I'm pretty sure it'll be a new family tradition. They provide you with a hand saw, wrap your tree for you and will help you load it if you need help. In their little food area, the kids get excited for apple donuts and cider. It's good stuff. They have other great looking food, but I haven't tried it yet. I have brought home a dutch apple pie, which was delicious and some homemade jams. Braved CoVid and the horrible air quality to come up to Apple Hill for some much needed change of scenery and to continue a family tradition my kids look forward to each fall. Only came out to Harris because they advertised on the special map of events for "Johnny Appleseed's birthday celebration that they were doing "mini caramel apples". Well, the mini caramel apples was just a kit you could purchase. We can purchase a kit at Raleys. Okay, we thought "Let's have some food and enjoy nature" since we're here (its very far from any other place and the main orchard area so we'd already had our fill of sweets). We asked "What's in the veggie tamale?" Disgruntled lady at the counter answered "veggies... I don't know." Uh ok. Asked for chicken tamale. "Don't have any chicken ones". Uh ok... food board not updated. "We'll take one chili hot dog, and two beef tamales." 10 minutes later. "Just checking on our order?" "I'm making it... we're not a fast food restaurant". She adds ketchup packet to empty tray. 10 minutes later. Still no food. 5 minutes later. Still no food. Come on. How long does it take to microwave a hot dog and two frozen tamales? THERE WERE NO OTHER CUSTOMERS ORDERING FOOD. We decide to ask for a refund. Its beyond ridiculous. At that moment, the food is finally hot and on the tray. Second lady says "We're not a fast food restaurant". Got it. You use that excuse a lot. And you shouldn't offer food if you can't get it microwaved in less than 25 minutes on a day with only a trickle of customers. Just don't. Don't offer what you can't deliver. And certainly don't deliver it with a side of sass. Please folks. Spend your dollars at more deserving businesses. Its a trek to get out to this one. The chickens are fun to watch. The dragonflies over the fields swoop and dive. There is a swing in the tree for your littles. But the general feel is of folks who would rather be elsewhere. So take your money elsewhere so they can get on with selling the business to someone who'd actually like to put effort into it. read more

Great experience today!! They were able to get us in on a waitlist same day since reservations are required this year due to Covid. Super friendly staff and a great family farm feel to it. Staff took their time explaining to us where all the specific Christmas trees were and were genuine in conversation. The pie shop was amazing with all kinds of goodies. This was our first year cutting down our own Christmas tree and we were already disappointed with the first Christmas tree farm we went to so we decided to try our Harris Tree Farm. This tree farm was much more organized than some in the same area and but it was almost double the price. They also had a small pie shop which served lunch and desserts and the mini apple cider donuts were AMAZING! They reminded me of the mini donuts you get at the San Francisco Wharf. We also purchased a frozen apple pie to take home and bake which turned out yummy too. As for our tree, after searching for almost an hour (a lot of the trees were either too big, newly grown or had sparse branches) we found a decent one and my husband used a handsaw the farm provided to cut it down. I would suggest bringing a pair of heavy duty gloves to carry your tree back to the front where the tree gets tagged and put aside for you to pay. They also offer pre-cut trees that are more expensive but are beautiful. read more

We spent the afternoon at Harris Tree Farm today, we loved every minute! We picked apples and pumpkins. They have jams, pies, doughnuts, and other goodies too. One stop shop. The ranch is spacious but not too large for little legs. Our 2 and 4 year olds walked the entirety. The staff was friendly and welcoming. Plenty of parking and no crowds or lines. No traffic too! As a Black Friday tradition, we've been getting our Christmas tree from Apple Hill since we moved to Sac in 2014. Every year has not disappointed until this past year, when we decided to check out Harris Tree Farm based on Yelp and SacTown recommendations. Never again!! This place is a total rip off. First of all, the selection after they've cut down trees (for those who wants a pre-cut tree) is totally crappy. If you want to buy a tree from here, I suggest looking through their pre-cut selections, which are the most symmetrical and most beautiful trees you'll find in this farm and they're also cheaper. Everything else are either misshapen or were produced from stumps that they tell you to leave behind. You can't cut any tree that's less than 5' and you have to leave at least a 6-inch stump when you cut; these are 2 requirements I've never heard of from other farms. After a LONG time of looking, we finally found a tree that was somewhat decent and based on the ruler they gave us, it's about 5.5'. When they rang us up? It turned out to be 6.5'. WTF?! And on the receipt, it originally says white fir and they crossed it off and it turned into a noble fir. Another WTF. If you look at their list, there's at least $10 difference between these 2 trees. My husband never questioned the charges. Icing on the cake? They charge $2 to effen wrap that tree. That wrap is complementary in every other place. So a "6.5'" "Noble Fir" + wrap + tax (which had always been included when we bought our tree from other farms) = $72.03. I could have gotten something prettier and cheaper at Home Depot. That Santa picture that you hear about? It's in the middle of their freaking small store so you have to cross across anyone who might be trying to take a picture of their little one with Santa in order to pay for their mediocre and overpriced apple cider. Do not waste your time and money. You're better off trying your luck at one of the many smaller farms across Apple Hill. Bigger isn't always better. Just look at Harris Tree Farm. read more
