This small liquor store on Beach Blvd is filled to the brim with spirits, snacks, propane, ice, and all other last minute items you could need before an impromptu beach day. We recently hosted a bonfire and were shocked when Walmart announced that they were out of firewood. Hilltop Liquor came to the rescue with a batch of affordable firewood and starters. My first time at this awesome liquor store and it certainly will not be the last! I believe it was a husband-and-wife working behind the counter and they were the absolute sweetest two people I've encountered since moving to Huntington Beach. The liquor store is located on the corner of Beach Blvd and Indianapolis and very easy to find off the street with their large sign out front (see photo). They share a parking lot with A taco shop and there is plenty of parking available. It's a large store and they have everything you could possibly need all in one stop. Oh!! And did I mention the beer!? Best selection I've found so far in HB!! I left this store with the hugest smile on my face, such warm and friendly service is rare these days. This classic HB liquor store has a great selection and is in a great location with ample, easy to find, parking. I've been going here for years and hope that it stands as-is for years to come. Don't let the reviews spouting about a bitterly verbal old man scare you away unless you are thin-skinned and/or stupidly verbal and rude, yourself. Just this afternoon, a customer ahead of me stupidly spoke up to the customer ahead of him and employee saying that some item was way too expensive. The employee told him to mind his own business and didn't back down when the punk customer continued to give the employee more grief. The rude customer didn't get the point that this is a business and employees' livelihoods are involved. The customer is probably another person whose parents never told him "no" and now we have another entitled punk amongst us. This is an all-American, classic, old-school liquor store that is one of a kind. We're lucky to still have it in HB so kids and others can be issued a dose or two of reality. Love Hilltop! They have a crazy beer selection and a hidden downstairs wine cellar that's easy to overlook if you don't know it's there. The owner is nice and everyone who works there is great. Always so friendly and helpful. Ignore a few of the other reviews, including x.r. I live across the street and am constantly in this store. It's a great business. Nothing 'dangerous' about ANYONE in there. Imagine working in a liquor store, you have to deal with some really crazy/obnoxious drunks, theft, etc all the time, so they all have to be cautious and keep people in line when needed! My husband and I run to this convenient store almost every single day since it's right around the corner from our house. But we will never step foot in there again. Multiple times I have brought scratchers in there that were worth $5 or $10 or $20 and been told by their staff that the tickets were no good or that they had already had been cashed (they had not). I thought nothing of it at the time but I just tried to cash a $100 scratcher and he told me it was only worth $5. I tried to show him on the ticket that it was a $100 winner, but he wouldn't listen and was incredibly rude and insulting. I would give zero stars if I could. My aunt and uncles came in to buy lottery tickets. At the very least, This store is ran by a grouchy old man and at the most, he might be racist to Asians. My uncle and I came in first. He was looking for the machine to check their previous lottery tickets. He's somewhat new to the country so he was fumbling around. Maybe that tip it off the old man and his clerk to be assholes. I then brought some lottery tickets for my mom. My uncle then asked me to buy him some. My aunt came in and then also decided to buy some too. Mind you there was no one waiting in line. The old man then said "you want some now you want some more" then just toss the tickets at me. Should I apologize for me wanting to give you more business? There were also these girls behind us that actually got to set their alcohol on the counter and then decided to go get more. We have often come here to have our own "tastings" and get out of our BL comfort zone. Booze- I come here for my Vodka...yah thats right Vodka...and lots of it. Dont judge. They always have a good handle on sale...yesterday for example- handle of Stoli for $22! Score! Sometimes they even have Kettle on sale for about $25. If we are going to a party, I ask one of the guys what they recommend and more times then not its a bottle I have never heard of at a great price point. ALWAYS ASK FOR RECOMMENDATIONS! Wine/Champagne- Great selection! All price points and what you dont see on the shelf or in the cooler, is in the cellar. Again, grab a bottle and take it to your friend's housewarming party or birthday. They also have all my favorite bottles of bubbly cold in the cooler- no one likes to wait for champagne to chill. This is my go-to spot for Friday's after work when I need a bottle of wine to forget all my worries for the past week. They surely never disappoint with their selection and always are there to lend a helping hand in selecting a great bottle. They have your typical bottles of alcohol to choose from, but what makes this place even more special is their section of wine. They have a lot of bottles you cant find in local stores and their blends are excellent. They have a large popular selection of white wines already in the fridge. The only problem I have, is their hard alcohol, like: whiskey's, scotches, and bourbons do not remain competitive enough with typical prices from total wine or bevmo. And two six packs cost $28, when you can buy them elsewhere online and delivered for less than $20. I usually only come here when I stop at Normita's next door. Their selection of beer is pretty good but overpriced and the old Turk at the register is rude every time I've come. Their aisles are narrow and shelves are sharp. Today my sleeve got caught on the shelf and ripped so I brought to his attention that the shelf edges are sharp and it ripped my shirt. His response in a rude tone was that I shouldn't have run into the shelf. I didn't touch the shelf, and he was around the corner but decided that he saw everything. I'm not interested in paying more for the convenience of walking sideways down an aisle and being talked down to by some angry old jerk. This has nothing to do with booze, just customer service. Went in because my co-worker Mike K. recommended their beer selection. While it is not a Hi Time or BevMo, they have a great import and craft brew section especially for a neighborhood liquor store. At first, I thought their prices were so-so, but I saw the same bottles at BevMo for only slightly less. A small price for convenience.
