We recently hosted a bonfire and were shocked when Walmart announced that they were out of firewood. Hilltop Liquor came to the rescue with a batch of affordable firewood and starters. This spot is close to the beach, easy to access, and offers a good amount of parking. Love having a non-chain option in the neighborhood!

I'd been a few times but since it's not very conveniently located to me it had been a while since I'd been. The hubby and I were on our way down to San Diego so we stopped in to get a gift for a friend. We wanted to get him a special bourbon but couldn't decide out of the dozens of bottles. One of their helpful staff came by and asked if he could help. He asked about a price range and recommended the Old Fitzgerald, which we'd never even heard of and never tried, but decided to take a chance. We were very impressed with it when we tried it with our friends later on that evening--the most smooth bourbon I think I've ever had. The cashier even went out of her way to find the branded velvet gift bag for the bottle, which was a nice way to present our gift. We were also glad to see that they had a selection of gluten-free beers, as the hubby had developed a gluten sensitivity recently. Great selection with a friendly, professional staff--it doesn't get much better than this.

The other day I bought two tequila bottles for my friend's birthday coming up this weekend. If you have a membership, they always give away cool coupons that you can use. Some stuff like $5 or buy three alc and get one free. I like coming here than liquor stores. It's clean and the service here is super friendly. Never a bad time here. When I first walked in, I was looking for a specific bottle and asked an employee for help. She was standing on her phone, and when I asked where the bottle was, she simply replied, "It's in the back." Since I wasn't familiar with the layout of this store, I asked if she could tell me where in the back--left, right, straight ahead, etc. She just repeated, "I said it's in the back." As a first-time customer at this location, that wasn't very helpful and honestly made me feel dismissed. Thankfully, the rest of my experience was completely different. I found another employee near the refrigerator section, and he was amazing. He walked me directly to what I was looking for, helped me grab everything I needed, and even carried it up to the register for me. He was incredibly friendly, made me laugh, and genuinely turned my shopping experience around. The cashier was also super sweet, and the manager who was there took the time to ask how my day was going and chatted with me for a bit. Those interactions made the store feel much more welcoming. While my first interaction wasn't great, everyone else I encountered provided excellent customer service and really made up for it. I hope the employee I first spoke with can be reminded that a little kindness and direction go a long way, especially for customers who aren't familiar with the store.

One thing I loved was that if you stand near the Roasted Loaded Potato and Baby Mini Donuts booths, you get such a good view of the HB pier and the ocean! And bonus points if it's during golden hour! What a sight!! Food-wise, my friend and I ended up getting a Roasted Loaded Potato with cheese and bacon bits. We forgot to add seasoning (whoops ), but the bacon bits definitely added great flavor! We also ordered a Carne Asada Burrito from one of the taco stands, and it was so nice that they were able to customize it and cut it in half so we could share. The meat was super juicy and the cheese had that perfect "stretchy pull" when you try to take a bite lol. So much flavor!! As for samples, I got to try the Cinnamon Explosion from the Baby Mini Donuts booth and it was phenomenal!! There was also a Coconut Water booth where I sampled their Coconut Coffee, an interesting combo, but honestly something I'd come back and try again at full size despite not being a big coconut person.
