Hilltop seems to be a responsible company and the owner takes ownership of their projects. Communication and due diligence need improvement. We still need to complete landscaping before we can close our permit. At this point, if you are assessing Hilltop, I think it's safe to consider them. Write down the names and contacts that the people you are dealing with. It gets confusing over time. For example our Project Manager sent us some initial kick off emails and answered a few questions but after that we are dealing with different people to resolve our issues. The Project Manager was not part of our issue resolution. Some of the people we dealt with early on in the process e.g. permitting you will ended up dealing with them again, later part of the process. 8/8 Update: Salt Cell installed. Hilltop sent someone in pretty quick (same day) after we reported the issue. They also sent another trainer few days later per our request to show us the salt cell operations and cleaned out our filter (pretty dirty from the additional pavers work that had to be done). Failed Electrical because fence repair was not done (no one told us that this has to be done before scheduling electrical inspection). Hilltop took responsibility and resent inspector few days after we had fence work done. Passed inspection once the fence was done. 7/29 Update: We were told we are ready for Pool School so we scheduled it. Turn out there was no salt cell installed. This was not communicated to us ahead of time until the Pool Technician is at our house. Frustrating nevertheless. 6/28 Update: Hilltop sent Pavers subcontractor back a couple of times to repair our pavers. Work was completed to our satisfaction. The time loss of course is not recoverable but our priority is quality. ----- Before 6/28 - The design team did a good job working with us meeting our impervious restriction. I am appreciative of that. The installation of our in ground pool started on March 11th. Payments have been made in full but project is still not done as of today, July 8th. Pavers were installed beautifully the first time but we were told that they had to be removed for bonding inspection. Pavers redo has been a nightmare. Unleveled pavers, sharp and broken edges, poor quality overall. We expected better from Hilltop. We reported the issues to the company and were told they will redo pavers and get this right. Came home from vacation, expecting a nice rework. Unfortunately, we were once again disappointed because they were not redone at all - even though we were told it was while we were away. Due diligence and communication have been poor. Today, we once again reported the issues to the owner of the company and project supervisor. I will update review and let you know if the company follow through with a redo and takes care of things like the owner said they would the last time. I wanted to thank the folks at hilltop pools for their support and recent service that they provided to us. We had Hilltop build our pool about four years ago and have enjoyed it thoroughly. We recently had an issue with the pump and motor and they came out to resolve the problem; however, the system was too loud resulting in me asking them to come back and resolve the issue. They did so promptly and replaced the entire unit with an upgraded system that works beautifully. I was amazed when I asked what the additional cost was and was told that there was none. I felt the need to leave my review regarding my experience with Hilltop pools and its CEO Matt Miller. I contacted Hilltop Pools about 8 months ago regarding building a pool. Matt Miller came to my house and we both discussed my vision. Two weeks later Matt sent me a 3 D video rendering of what has come to be a master piece and shockingly was spot on. Matt is an visionary he made some incredible suggestions that took my pool over the top, but before I continue my review I must explain that I vetted out several pool companies before I decided to pull the trigger with Hilltop. The main reason I went with Hilltop was due to Matt and his honesty regarding expectation, pricing and time frame. The 1 star reviews I have read are Plain BS, Matt and his team have given me their personal numbers and respond immediately. People that have left low reviews obviously didn't give them a chance to respond and correct what ever issues that will arise with such complex pool systems. Lets put it like this, they build a full infinity pool with a waterfall and the stone work by their contract Tony provided was unreal. Guys, 8 months of working with Matt and Shane the Forman was a joy and a phenomenal experience. Dont get me wrong THERE IS NO FUN IN 8 MONTHS OF CONSTRUCTION, but these guys made it painless with their professional handling of my pool. All the emails, questions, to do lists and confrence calls I requested and consumed them with were met with positive feedback and were all answered by Matt personally or there office manager Trina who is amazing. They are not the cheapest pool company by any means, because they provide quality work and more important assurance that they will get the project done and done perfect. Remember people, they have to fight through weather elements which some times cause major delays but they are on point honest and OMG do they do some amazing work. My pool is SICK that's a real good thing. Lol They really killed it in all aspects. Let me give you an example. My pool is all around Infinity, their stone guys did an amazing job with the ledger, floor work and retaining walls (I went all out). When they were done it really looked incredible, Shane showed up took a pic and sent it to Matt for his review. Matt looks at the pic and tells Shane he isn't happy with the results. Shane calls me up and explains to me that after Matt saw the pic of the finish ledgers and tiles he was unpleased and wanted to let me know that they would be correcting it to make it perfect as promised. Ok, let me explain! When Shane called I told him WOW that the pool was looking amazing and I had no complaints and notice nothing wrong. Shane proceed to explain that Matt in the pic notices that the ledgers were about 2inch higher then the tile and it was not a true infinity as he promised which was unacceptable. Matt made his team fix the issue to make it a true infinity and did it in one day with a crew of 12 of his guys. I DIDNT NOTICE IT GUYS. They didnt have to say a word I was happy, but it showed me how honorable and honest Matt Miller and his team are which really impressed me. I would recommend them highly and my business partner after seeing the results and how happy I was through the process Decided to hire Hilltops as well and should be swimming in his pool by next year. My husband and I are really disappointed in the process of our build. The design part went really well but almost every step of the build had issues and had my husband not been there it could have been a complete disaster. The masonry work turned out horrible. The first time we used our firepit it cracked in multiple places including capstone around the top and the repair work looks awful. The masonry guys just put grout in the cracks instead of replacing the stones. Also after swimming in the pool one time several waterline tiles just came off. Again the masonry repair was quick and ugly. The tiles they put back on stick out from all the other tiles instead of being flush with the rest of the tile on the pool. Also several capstone around the pool are flaking off. The company was really quick to respond to issues but the repair works looks very subpar/unprofessional compared to the premium cost of our build. Also our project manager did not seem very experienced in his job. The communication is definitely lacking in this organization. I really hate to leave a bad review but I am just being honest. I look at all the beautiful pictures of builds on their website and read some awesome reviews and wonder why we had such a bad experience. read more

They refinished out pool, fixed leaking plumbing and converted our pool to a salt water system. Now that it is finally finished, it does look great. They had higher prices than other places had quoted us but Angie's list had great reviews so we went with them. They are great until they get your first down payment. It took them 4 months longer than originally planned... Some of that was due to weather but MUCH was just waiting for them for whatever reason??? Their quotes and invoices are very unclear, they have incredibly poor communication (you have to keep contacting them about when they are showing up, they randomly show up at unscheduled times, you have to inquire about what is happening next or about how issues may be solved, you have to repeatedly email them questions and still get no answer, etc). The workers left debris everywhere and I even found our old plaster thrown behind the fence. I emailed about this with photos after we had paid our last payment and they never even responded. They don't really offer many options for equipment so expect to pay for the most expensive stuff even if it is not necessary for the size of your pool. Some of the guys who work for the company are really nice and helpful though but they are not the ones working at the site the whole time and not who you deal with over the phone and in emails. To top off our feelings and really justify feeling slighted, one of their contractors (who did a great job) told us that we were being way overcharged for that particular job and that hilltop wanted to forego necessary work that he thought was essential so that they could pocket money that was already in that budget. Despite that, he did it anyway without their consent because he just didn't feel ok about leaving it. This makes me VERY nervous about the overall work done. So yes, our pool looks great now and is currently working great but I am worried about the quality. I would never recommend this company. I've never left a bad review for anyone before but felt it necessary after I didn't even get a response to my last email that included an actually kind positive sandwich of thanks with pointing out the debris intentionally left. I was more than patient and understanding through the whole process... Too much so. Once they got the money, they were definitely done. Do not use them. read more

Very surprised to see the reviews for this company and wonder if they are legit - as I have had a much different experience with our pool. Introduction to Pools: My family was new to the pool world coming from Chicago and building a new home in Johns Creek with a pool. Our builder introduced us to multiple pool contractors to help create a custom pool and structure that fit with our home design. Hilltop proved to be the most accommodative to our specs with the best overall value proposition - that does not mean the cheapest, but great value. An important selling point on Hilltop was that they are family owned and operated complimented with a cadre of long term employees. After multiple changes on our end, our project was completed on time and included various family members keeping track of making sure things were well attended throughout the process. Follow Up: Unfortunately, approximately 1 year after our pool was installed, we had a liner issue stemming from our pool service provider not properly balancing the chemicals. After discovering the problem, we contacted Hilltop to help us resolve. While it was not their issue, Hilltop actively coordinated/guided us through a rather bumpy complete relining of our pool as well as provided oversight of the aftercare. Again, as with the original pool construction, family members (including the owner - Brian) took interest in resolving our problem to ensure that our experience with Hilltop was a good one. In Summary: We would recommend Hilltop to those looking for a high quality, customer service orientated pool builder. I have no idea why this company would describe my attempts to receive a refund of my money as bullying when absolutely no work was done. There wasn't even a permit pulled so I'm unclear on how they earned it. And nothing in my review has been disputed. It is exactly what happened. That is the purpose of these forums to describe your experience so that people researching a company can get an idea of how they conduct their business. My experience was sad, to say the least. And legal correspondence is generally how these things are resolved. My pool has already been installed by Pure Pools in Lawrenceville, GA. The two experiences were like night and day. Hilltop installed the pool at the house I purchased. I have contacted them several times for servicing the pool specifically to install a automatic fill valve. The previous owner told me it should be installed for free. They have yet to return any of my calls. In fact the last time I called they told me they no longer service pools; only install them. This business is unprofessional to say the least and it speaks volumes they refuse to service pools they install. I won't bother with them ever again and strongly recommend you don't either. Per their own response they don't service the pools they install. You are stuck with their shoddy work and it's all on you to fix it. By far the worse experience we have ever had. I looked up this company and saw no negative reviews, so I called. The sales guy came out sold us on how professional they are as well as saying how they are a Christian company, that should have been my sign. We signed our contract in March. Nine weeks go by with the same excuse that its a permit problem. I then went to the permit dept only to find out that never applied for one. The next day I had one, wow. I then sent an email to the sales people only to be told that its really not his problem that I have concerns. Again we are a Christion company? I even sent a let to Matt , their owner. Again we are here to help and make this a good experience. Two days later, hole was done, cement sprayed in and then nothing for weeks. As of today Aug 1 they have about four hrs left to finish my pool , but have missed showing up now for another for weeks. Please don't take this as a joke. They will lie about everything they tell you and they will NOT follow up. The other I learned was they have NO contractors that are employees! And every contractor I spoke to said they put Hill Top last because of the way they are treated. So beware.... read more

The first thing I do before buying any product is look up reviews. I read the good and the bad to understand the quality of the product I'm buying. Our pool was no different. We did our research and Hilltop was at the top of our list. They were so gracious and accommodated our crazy schedules to pick out materials and go over the final contract. We were firm on our budget and they gave us everything we wanted within that amount. The general contractor for the project gave us his cell phone number in case we had any questions and was quick to return our calls. When we needed to call the office for any detail, we received a response immediately. The craftsmanship and attention to detail was incredible. The contractors they used were top notch and very friendly. This was our first building project and we went in having done a tremendous amount of research with specific questions and were very reassured by their knowledge and experience. It was hard to be patient, but everything was completed within the quoted time frame even though the weather often didn't cooperate.
