Water doesn't drain properly in shower so a person stands in an inch or two of dirty water. Spend your precious vacation dollars elsewhere. There are lots of good things about this inn. The location is terrific -- a five-minute walk up to L.L. Bean and other shops and restaurants. The staff is super friendly (thanks Jamil), our room was spotlessly clean, and the AC worked fine and quietly. Our concern was mostly with the breakfast -- a hot buffet for $15 which offered a rather limited selection and seemed a bit overpriced. Plus we didn't care for the coffee. There is a lovely outdoor sitting area and a very good fitness center. The pool is heated, it is claimed, but we would call the result lukewarm at best and a little discouraging for those of us who prefer truly warm water. And no hot tub. BTW, there is a railway track that runs behind the hotel, and Amtrak trains apparently come thru a couple of times a day. Happily for all, the trains do not blow their horns, only ring bells. Thank goodness! So, a mostly good experience here with a couple of things we wish were a little more attuned to us. read more

Great location, lots of parking. 6-minute walk to LL Bean, there's a Domino's around the corner... There's an historic chapel that people get married at on site. Going at the early days of January has its downfalls being so cold. However, in the warmer months, it's nice to see the string lights & fire pit outside. We were able to check in nearly 2 hrs. early, likely due to the off-season / Hilton Honors. A quick phone call was it all it took to confirm if we could come early, as we were ahead of schedule. Sonia deserves kudos for being so responsive, friendly & goes above & beyond. Not only did she let us check in early, but she gave us information on local restaurants & their in-house restaurant's hours of operation. She was also the one to answer my text messages that I received as a 'welcome'. Great customer service & patience. Few things to note for why I gave 4 out of 5 stars: - The indoor pool is heated but the water itself is lukewarm. - The towels for the pool were 'crunchy' / not soft. - Our room (226) was comfortable & relatively clean, however: -- The last people that stayed left greasy handprints / marks from their heads on the headboard -- The shower was sketchy in regard to the shower head having a build-up of calcified hard water & pink around the caulking. As far as breakfast is concerned, it's $14.95 for a very basic buffet. I paid a little extra for 'free' breakfast. Nice dining area, food prepared very well. Nice staff. I have been staying at this hotel for about 15 years. Every stay was very pleasurable. We even saw the same staff year after year. It was like coming home again. But this past year seemed a little off. WE had out same terrific bartender Jen, and the front desk staff were wonderful. The room was clean as usual. Their dinners were never out of this world terrific but were great in a pinch when it was too cold to go elsewhere or you had to get the kids dinner early. They definitely could upgrade the quality of the offering but that is not the reason for this review. The breakfast has always been fantastic. Full buffet. You would order your hot selections from your server and the rest you go up and serve yourself. I even remember that there was a waffle iron in the serve yourself area. Since Covid they took that away but the selection of Danish, muffins, cereals, fruit etc was always the same. The price of the buffet more than likely went up from year to year but not so much that anyone would notice. And the breakfast was so delicious you didn't mind. Until this year. We had been told there was new management. We were getting a bite to eat at the bar as many late check ins were, and there was only the bartender to take of waitressing and bartending. You might think they would have gotten someone to assist her. The next morning was where we rally saw the difference. My daughter and I ordered the buffet and ordered the hot portion with the waitress as we always do. I ordered 2 eggs, home fries, bacon and 1 pancake. I went up and got coffee. Then I went up and got toast. When I was up there I said to myself, "what a chincy selection they have now". No pastries, only tiny blueberry muffins, crappy quality fruit that wasn't even ripe. It is obvious they switched to cheaper suppliers. The meals came and I noticed the quality was way off. The home fries were little cubes of potato essentially deep fried (so French fries) instead of being pan fried with onions, etc. The bacon was deep fried instead of pan fried. Yuk. The eggs were small eggs...and I mean small. And no pancake. I asked the waitress and she said oh it should be coming right up. Well, I had finished my breakfast and was just about to say forget it, when it came. Ok no problem, she forgot to order it. THEN I GOT THE BILL..... I see that my breakfast cost over $20, not the $14.95 buffet price. I asked the waitress and she said "that's how we do it now". But I said it says $14.95 for buffet including hot items on your menu. No satisfaction. I asked to speak with the manager who came out and knew exactly what I asking to speak with him about. Almost as though he just got done talking to someone else about the same thing. When I showed him the menu, he said "ya, that's how we do it now". I explained to him that you still have it on the menu, have no sign or disclosure at the entrance letting people know. It was actually written on the white board Buffet $14.95. He said "ya, that's how we do it now" and then said we're going to have to get some signs for that" How about changing your menu to reflect what you are really charging? If they need to adjust their prices, then they should adjust their prices. Leave the quality and selection alone. People will either pay it or they won't. But they shouldn't play dirty little tricks to get extra money out of their customers. I was wondering why the regular staff was no longer there after all those years. One of the staff said everyone left. They didn't like the management either apparently. And...NO Christmas tree in the lobby or any other decorations for that matter. I try to get to Freeport a couple times a year and whenever possible I try to stay at the downtown Hilton Garden Inn. The hotel is on a quiet side street and all of downtown is walkable. I tend to pick when I stay based on rates, they can vary from $130/night and I've seen $379/night in the summer (so I don't go in the summer lol). That said, it's a great spot, and is very clean. read more

My wife and I were on a week long road trip along the coast of Maine. Our last night was spent in Freeport, just a little north of Portland. It was our most expensive hotel on the trip at $400, not sure why, but it was a Saturday night on Fourth of July weekend. It is walking distance to LL Bean flagship and lots of restaurants and plenty of shopping. We hit a tap room and there are plenty of lobster places nearby. They charged for breakfast, which was the only one we ran into on our trip, but there was a Starbucks nearby, that I got a nice hummus package. Which was good. The pool was nice and the room was good size and comfortable. The fridge was large and kept stuff nice and cold. There is a large parking lot outside. Being a member of Hilton Rewards allows you to take a refreshing cold water bottle in the lobby, which is really nice after a walk around a hot downtown. Service was fantastic and everyone was super nice. Besides the crazy price, it was a nice place to stay. read more

The good and not so good. Love the location! A market right down the street, easy to get to shops too. The staff is very friendly and very accommodating. The rooms are clean and tidy, the housekeeping staff is very helpful. Always a hello from the front desk! The restaurant is run a little odd for me. as the previous employee of Hilton, if you're gonna have a restaurant and you're gonna charge for breakfast, you should pour coffee, and the breakfast should be including toast or bagel. you shouldn't have to get up and pour your own coffee and make your own toast to go with your breakfast! I always tip but I think that regulates how much I tip I have to do all that extra for a $14.50 egg breakfast. they also sell programs including breakfast so that means those people are still doing that also. Other hilton's also have flavored creams this location does not. Also it's nice to have coffee brought out in the afternoon or have it out sometime during the day, but they do not. M & I were pleased w/ past stays here & especially during this Covid period. Our only complaint was that people greeting us & checking us in -Altho' they were behind the 3/4-height plastic partitions - were NOT wearing masks! I'm more sensitive about these matters especially since I'm disabled, seriously immunocompromised & at high-risk. However, I applaud Hilton's efforts to ensure that everywhere else on this property was made to be Covid-safe. Every employee we encountered wore their masks correctly (vs 1/2 mask down displaying nose + mouth). There were air filtering systems every 8-10' in the common hallways where our guest rooms were. Dining areas were closed off & not in use during Covid stay (July & Aug 2020) & our King room- which was immaculately cleaned before we stayed there - required no further cleaning services & Hilton even mandated that no one other than the hotel guests staying there was allowed in the guest rooms. HILTON, THANK YOU for thinking of & executing these measures seamlessly. We will continue to be loyal customers, if all Covid-safety measures are of highest priority & are consistently enforced to protect hotel guests. Altho' it was unspoken while we were there...Best if you could also mandate 1 family per elevator so that social distancing is enforced further. read more

Not a great experience for us, the train going by at 4:40am was enough to wake me up both nights. People down the hall had a barking dog early in the morning and late at night. Anytime I go to Maine, I try to stay here. Although it's not exactly close to Portland, it is close Bath, where I typically conduct business, and it's right in the middle of downtown Freeport. To start, guests are always welcomed with fresh warm cookies upon check-in. The staff has always been nice and accommodating to my needs. The rooms are spread across three floors, they are modern and clean with flat screen tv, comfortable beds, and clean bathrooms. I've never eaten dinner at the restaurant before, but breakfast is nice. If you are not a gold member and have to pay for breakfast, you can get pastries and fruit for about $5, or you can have a hot breakfast including made to order eggs for about $10. The bar is nice, stocked with some good local beers and a couple tv's. They also have live entertainment occasionally. Parking is across the street in a private lot. read more

It was our 10th anniversaryand thought this particular. Hilton would be perfect. We couldn't have more wrong. We checked in around 7 PM after shopping at the Freeport outlets. The person at the front desk gave us the key to room 124 as entering there was a very strong smell of a pet I realize the hotel is dog friendly but felt they could've did a much better job cleaning it. She said she could show us a room on the same floor. It was the only one left when we entered that room. It smelled a lot better, however after using the restroom within a few minutes of being there, I noticed there was hair in the bathtub. while I was on hold sitting on the bed waiting for the front desk to pick up so I can let them know about the situation with the tub. I noticed the pillowcases did not smell very clean. They had a scent that somebody was sleeping on them recently like dirty hair. When they answered, I let them know what was going on. They did offer to come back to the room and clean it at this point. I just wanted to check out and go home even though it was a 2 1/2 hour drive the person at the front desk gave me a business card For the room manager to speak to the next day to get a refund whereas we were already charged. I called the next day and I spoke to Anita Aker who assured me that she would talk to her general manager and see what she could do about getting me a refund . a day or two went by and I did not hear from her. I left her a couple of voicemails with no response at all. I called the front desk and they gave me the direct phone number to the general manager who I left a long voicemail with explained the situation , two more days went by. Nobody called me or contacted me. I called the front desk one more time they gave me a phone number to guest services for the Hilton, they were wonderful. They said they were sending me a check for a refund and that we would get that check within 30 days. It's only been one day but I do have an email confirmation and I do have faith that I will receive a refund, however the way my situation was handled, buy not returning my calls was a lot worse than being checked into a hotel room with poor hygiene they made me feel very unimportant and I will never ever stay at that particular Hilton again It handled very unprofessionally and I'm disappointed. read more

I have very mixed feelings. We have stayed here twice and I honestly think it's so up and down. The rims are pretty nice don't get me wrong. But the service kind of stinks no matter what time I've been. The pool is awesome in the location is probably the best you can have. First off I was happy that the pillows where not super firm. The reception desk area is a busy spot, but the workers are very kind and helpful. There is a small snack bar next to the desk which is. The restaurant is a good size area right out front. It's a bit more open with food traffic of people checking in and out which I don't like. Still nothing to get in a uproar about. The hotel itself is tucked away down a side street off of the busy streets in freeport, so super easy to go out and enjoy all freeport has to offer. You park across the street but it's not a busy road so it's fine. There is a pool and gym that unfortunately I wasn't able To try out. Like most hotels the shower way is a bit to hard of water For me. They have a in room Mini fridge coffee maker and a few assorted coffees and teas. None smoke of course so sorry if you smoke. Good: Hotel itself is fine, outside seating, pool, gym, clean rooms. Bad: -Poorly made bed (like I can make beds way better and that's not because that's a super talent I have or anything) -Breakfast is not complimentary but is self serve and has the same food as budget hotels (waffle machine, cereal, etc) which led us to believe it was complimentary. We then saw only some people get served coffee but we never were so we thought there were 2 options self serve complimentary and serviced and non-complimentary. Then after getting our own food and coffee and having NO ONE wait on us like some other tables they slapped us with a bill. The same breakfast is free at like motel 6. Got a price from Priceline and another third party site for a cheap king room, and an even cheaper double queen room. Called the hotel to see if they would match the price, got transferred to three people and finally decided to cut my losses and just book. Asked about their King room, apparently they don't update those rooms or their own site to show availability so those were gone. Fine. Book the double queen. Was told $140 something but charged $170 because the $20 is for "snacks and in room things" I'm guessing you are prepaying for the snacks. Now I love a good snack..... but not $20 worth!! The only things in our room were two waters we could "purchase" but fuck that noise. We walked to cvs to get a gallon of water. Desk clerk was creepy. Kept whispering my name, fine. But as I was walking away he whispered it again. Wtf!? Cleaning lady just knocked at our door at 9:45. Apparently she REALLY needs in here... My wife and I stayed here for a night on our way up to Bar Harbor. We checked in after 10:00 pm and departed in the morning. We booked the room online while we were driving and it was easy to do. The hotel was updated, modern, trendy, and located a block or two off the main drag but still in the middle of all the shopping. You could easily drop off all your purchases in your room and return to help the Freeport economy. Upon entering, you'll notice how bright and cheery the lobby is as well as the concession area which has lots to offer. There's a nice outside firepit for those crisp nights with plenty of seating if you wanted to grab a drink and sit outside. Our room was clean, updated, and everything worked. My wife and I were very pleased on our nightly rate because I have no doubt they could charge a lot more based upon location and upgrades. The hotel parking lot was across the street so drop your luggage off first. Sorry I couldn't stay longer. read more

While staff are polite and helpful, the hotel has a poor heating/ac system. All night the machine cycles on and off loudly, turning the room freezing or boiling. The windows don't open either for fresh air. There is no safe deposit box in the room and while the room info brochure states that the front desk will hold valuables, the very pleasant woman at the desk was mystified by the request. Freeport itself shuts down by 9:00, and there is no good place for breakfast in town. We didn't try the hotel breakfast. Moreover, for such a dreary town, the rates are quite expensive. Portland, 20 minutes away would have been a much more enjoyable stay. And last, GPS hardly works anywhere in Freeport. Bring a detailed map. read more

I am so impressed with the Hilton Garden inn in Freeport. My boyfriend and I both have physical disabilities, but I was determined to book us a night in Freeport to enjoy the last weekend of summer. I was a little nervous as to what it would be like getting around Freeport. I knew this hotel was close, and I had read there was a shuttle to and from the Amtrak station that goes directly into Freeport, but everything seems closer when you're driving...and we just know nothing is ever simple! The staff at the Hilton took care of us, and put all our concerns to rest. We checked into our room Saturday afternoon, and although I had booked the romance package, there was no wine in our room, or the promised breakfast coupons. I spoke briefly with the front desk, and that evening we were comped 4 small bottles of Prosecco, 2 of which we drank at the bar, and the other two were delivered to our room. The breakfast coupons were provided with no argument. The bartender was very friendly, as were all of the staff members we came in contact with over the weekend. We utilized the free breakfast buffet (usually $10.95 per person). The food was really good! They have omelets and corned beef hash cooked to order as well as bacon, sausage, and assorted cereals, yogurts and bread products. There is also free fruit water, tea and coffee in the lobby all day, as well as a pantry for other snacks and essentials you might need during your stay (we bought orange juice for mimosas in our room while we got ready for the day!) (NOTE to tourists: Everything closes early in Maine, so plan to stock your room or drink at the bar if you want to imbibe post 9 p.m.) At first we found it a bit difficult to get to and from the hotel from Main St. but then on our last afternoon we discovered a MUCH easier way to get there, down the hill (significantly less steep than the way we had been going) from Wilbur's Chocolates, the hotel is directly on the left. When we checked out, the staff kindly held all of our bags for us, and organized a special shuttle for us to get to our train on time. The driver was very kind and did not say one word about having to load up our mobility devices, and brought all of our bags right up to the platform for us! As for the room, it was very comfortable, and accommodating. The shower, is always a challenge in accessible rooms, as there was a bath tub with no shower chair, and the shower head was high and pointed out of the tub, which made it impossible for us to use without contacting someone to lower it. What I did find to be nice was that the shelf of towels, hair dryer, and hanging rod was all lowered and we could actually reach all the amenities, so that was very nice and added to the positive experience! Even the toilet flushed on the side away from the wall so a person in a wheelchair could access the handle easier. all in all we had a WONDERFUL stay here, better than I even anticipated, and we will definitely be back. I can't wait to come back for some Christmas shopping. Next time we will plan to utilize the pool and hot tub! read more

Handicapped nightmare. Looks at this poor excuse for a handicapped toilet. Standard low to the floor and one grab bar in a totally worthless spot BEHIND the toilet. WiFi showed full service but useless. Had to turn it off and use data. Check in consisted of being handed our room key. No information. So I was surprised the next morning when our expensive room included no breakfast. The only people eating bought a buffet breakfast in their lobby restaurant which would have been very challenging for my Handicapped wife. Shocking treatment from Hilton. I expected better from a big chain. Starting to travel more now in retirement and will look elsewhere. Another night to go here and I'm praying that my wife isn't injured trying to use this nightmare bathroom. read more

Let me open with I am a Hilton person. Mostly all I stay at when I travel. I would not recommend staying here. There are train tracks directly outside along one entire face of the hotel. One entire side of rooms are up against it. A freight train went by at 2:20 a.m. and woke up the entire room. Another train went by at 7 a.m. Rooms are clean which is why I gave it a second star. Staff is not great. Huge line to check in. Three people behind the counter. One checking people in and the other two literally standing there just talking. Garden Inn gives you either breakfast or 750 points with your stay. The women checked me in and didn't ask. I asked her to put me in for the points, she said come down in the morning. I am a Diamond Member and asked about the free premium WiFi. The women said she had never heard of that. Just an all around disaster. Hilton needs to step up their game in Freeport because I will not be returning to this location. read more

Central location, truly walkable. Amtrak goes by a few times a day and adds to kid's excitement. Rooms are clean with bottled water provided (free for Hilton members). The tub water pools at your feet and it likely needs a good plunge. Breakfast buffet is reasonably priced, great selection with eggs to order including omelettes. The pistachio muffin was delicious as was the multi grain bread. Attentive and pleasant service from everyone we encountered. Fire alarm was the only disruption and they accommodated the people who did evacuate in the meeting building next door to lessen the cold. We will stay here again. read more

My family and I stayed here for an evening while visiting Freeport. I've always been overly satisfied with this company, but this trip was not like the others. Upon arrival, the woman at the front desk was incredibly rude and short with me. At one point she said, "You're a Hilton honors member you can grab your waters. They're over there." I've stayed at other places where they asked how many I would like and gave them to me. She seemed to be incredibly inconvenienced by my arrival. Upon entering our room it seemed cleaned. However, when looking in the bathroom it was covered in hair, which is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. There was hair on the sink, toilet, floor, tub, and wrapped around the hinges at the door. I didn't call down because the lady at the desk was really rude and honestly didn't have the patience for her. The parking is across the street, but you can pull up and load/unload. There was a gentleman working the front desk who was all smiles and polite when coming in at night. Upon checking out, the lady at the desk (a different one) seemed less than amused. She was busy on the computer, but never looked up or said give me a minute please. She asked what room we were checking out of. Asked if we wanted a receipt and that was it. Never once asked how are stay was or thanked us for choosing them. Overall, the hotel is beautiful and sits close to the main strip in Freeport. The parking lot is big and right across the street. They have a pool which is on the main floor. However, the service was subpar and I will most likely never choose this location again. read more

The Freeport Hilton Garden Inn is located within walking distance of downtown Freeport and is very handy for shoppers. The hotel includes a typical mini store, mini bar area, nice open air lobby area and small restaurant. Other amenities small business office, indoor pool, gym and guest laundry facilities.The breakfast service was pleasant and the prices were reasonable $10.95 adult, $5.95 children children under 5 eat for free. The real value is if you order the the custom made omelets, French toast or other items. Most of Freeport's other breakfast options are about that price point or more. All of the hotels staff were very up beat and positive which makes a world of difference when starting the day or checking in after a long travel or business day. The hotel was under renovation or updating but there was no noise or disturbances during my visit. We were concerned with the location due to it being by an Amtrak station but we were not disturbed by it. Our room was located on the first floor and you could see the tracks from the bedroom window. I give the Freeport Hilton Gardens five stars for its location, the value versus the cost of other hotels in Freeport and the staffs postive energy. read more
