We were very excited to book this hotel. It's in a beautiful area and we were going to a graduation at St. Mary's College, our grandson. The hotel is supposedly dog friendly and we paid an extra $75 dog fee upon arrival. I called the hotel and spoke to Janine and asked her if we could have a room on the first floor, non allergic pillows and if the dogs were allowed to stay in the room while we went out. The answer was yes. Our dalmation is very well behaved and we have left her for short periods like while we were having dinner. Last year we traveled across the country and never had a problem. So last night the family had a pre graduation dinner on St. George's Island. We were finished around 8:30 and as I was leaving I got a call from the hotel that Freckles was barking. We were on our way back and about an hour away. Then I got another call while we were driving. It took us an hour to get back and I apologized. I never want to upset other patrons at a hotel. By the way, the room was on the third floor, not the first as we asked for. So we were not allowed to leave Freckles today and I missed the graduation. I was broken hearted bc we had just traveled two days to get here. The night before we were in a La Quinta Inn in Selma, North Carolina. This hotel was loaded with dogs and they barked on and off but no problem. So maybe this Hilton Inn should advertise "bark-less dogs". Or at lat least put them in an area where they wouldn't bother anyone. We're spending another night here because we already paid for the room. Freckles will come with us everywhere. Fortunately there are many restaurants with patio seating. Unfortunately we couldn't bring her to graduation- my loss. PS. The staff and breakfasts were excellent! They even let us bring Freckles to the other side of the lobby so we could have breakfast. They brought the food to us! Thank You! read more

We decided on this hotel as a short getaway. We stayed for two nights and our plan was to spend a whole day at the outside pool. We succeeded! After a very pleasant check in, we got our travel bags into our room, which was very clean and comfy. We had a brief visit to the hotel bar, where we received a very good recommendation for a breakfast spot the next morning. After breakfast, we hit the pool area. We had sunscreen, water and snacks. The pool area was very clean and members of the staff came out periodically to check the water, clean out debris, etc. They even asked if we needed some bottles of water! Everyone we came in contact with at this hotel was wonderful. We definitely will come back when we need a little vacation from home. read more

Terrible, pools both closed, bar with no mixers or functional soda service, out of soap for the rooms, not handicap accessible. Do yourself a favor and stay anywhere but here. Terrible. Hilton, you can do better. read more

This Hilton hotel is one of the worst accommodations I've ever stayed at. The air conditioning did not work throughout the halls on each floor, they charge to park ($4.95) on their lot, and the most disturbing is that they are infested with ants. Everyone in line upon check out complained about being attacked by ants. My sons overnight bag were filled with them when he woke up. They are short staffed and have no amenities (bar, restaurant, pool access) due to ongoing construction, however want to charge $209 a night (even with a bulk room discount). Never will I stay here again, over priced piece of crap. read more

This place was amazing!! The photos that are posted doent give this hotel any justice. The room I was in was updated, I had fresh towels every other day (which I loved). The lobby was updated as well! The receptionists that I had checking in and out was very friendly and I would definitely come back. They do offer breakfast buffet for like $17. I didn't get to enjoy the breakfast but it seemed delicious from what I saw. The only down fall is they charge like $4 a day to park there. read more

I didn't book this stay. I wouldn't have booked this place. Not only is it outdated, over priced. It's Friday night. The kitchen and bar staff were a no show. The person behind the desk stated she never called the GM or anyone. Asked to borrow a wine opener. " I don't have any keys" Sign says kitchen open. No one around. No plugs for cell phones. Rooms are nice, so I gave them 2 stars. Air conditioner sounds like an old truck. Fist time here & last. No room cleaning service unless you ask; was not aware. No shampoo only soap. This is not a real Hilton. I will not ever stay at any Hiltons again. No bar or restaurant open on Saturday either. At least a super 8 leaves the lights on. Construction happening. The front desk kindly help me find my lost earrings. I deducted one star because when I checked in, the front desk mistook my name, and put me in the wrong room. But not a big problem. The best receptionist there was Karen. Though at the time I stayed me and my children was homeless. I inquired about a job there automatically he thought I only had cook experience. Not believing that I have been certified as a manager for many many years. Well we stayed a few nights and I could not afford one night. So I went out to work and seen on my credit card statement that my account was overdrafted and they collected payment. In which 2 weeks later I went and applied for the job just cause he thought I couldn't handle being a manager. Interview went great said I'm hired if the references come back ok. All of them did and I have no criminal background. I sent the receipt and this was his response. Hello Ms. Herring, I'm sorry I missed your call on Friday.  I did speak with my boss about our interview, your references and then about the last night you had stayed with us and how we did not receive payment.  I have attached your receipt, as you can see the room and tax amounts are normally on the left but the last 3 lines shows the last night as a negative on the right side of the receipt.  This is because we did not collect payment from you for your last night with us.  Your card declined and we were told that you were leaving for Virginia.  We had no choice but to write-off the last night room and tax.  Again, you interviewed great and Mellanie and I enjoyed speaking with you but we are not able to proceed hiring you on.  We wish you the best and it was very nice meeting you! Staying here was relaxing, fulfilling and fun! Nancy at the front desk was so sweet and knowledgeable.I asked her about Solomon Island and she responded with lots of great information. I visited Solomon's Island for a friend's wedding. After leaving my home at 4:15AM, and then flying to BWI and driving to Solomon's Island, I needed a place to crash before the rehearsal dinner. I arrived approximately 1 hour before check-in and was told rooms with king-size beds were not ready, so I settled for two queen beds. Minus 1 star. I find it hard to believe a single room wasn't ready. Room was adequately sized. Hole in the bathroom door (needed to be patched), but otherwise the water was hot, and the towels were clean. Expect to hear a lot of hall noise (and I'm a heavy sleeper). A few other guests commented that their rooms weren't cleaned until late in the afternoon (after calling the front desk), but I never experienced that during my two night stay. I came up from North Carolina for the weekend to attend a celebration of life on Sunday afternoon. My wife and I arrived at the hotel at 11 pm and checked out by 930 am the next day, so not even there 12 hours. After our stay, i noticed on my bank statement that I was charged twice. I called the hotel and they said they charged me a smoking fee. Problem is we didnt smoke in the room, even have us on camera going outside to smoke before we laid down for bed. We are smokers and I am sure our clothes smelled like smoke but not enough to stink up the room like they claim. It is a bogus charge and when I spoke to the manager about it she didn't want to hear my side just said we had to close down the room for 2 days. When I asked to have the number to a higher up (district manager) I was told by the manager that she did not have that number, which is a load of crap. The hotel was nice but being charged for something that I did NOT do is unacceptable. Like I said we were only there for 10 hours and they have us on camera walking outside away from the front door (so other guest aren't bothered) to smoke our cigarette. Absolutely ridiculous. ****Update, I received the money back from my bank, not sure if it was Hilton that released it but I was able to recover the money that I was wrongfully charged for. I have upped my rating from 1 star to 3 stars. read more

Housekeeping knocked on my door 3 times this morning 2 hours before check out time. Restaurant downstairs that will also do room service. I would definitely stay here again. read more

I stayed one night here with three other friends. I didn't know what to expect but I was wow'd by the elegance of the reception area! Check in was at 3pm but they allowed us to check in 2 hours early bc they had clean rooms available! The room had two queen beds, a super cold A/C unit, and was generally clean! The pool is small but useful and the jacuzzi was a nice edition! The staff was very friendly! I was impressed by their willingness to please and how polite they were! Have stayed here a few times for a quick DC getaway. Sadly, never again. I say "sadly" because the location is good and the rooms are nice, but caveat emptor. This Garden Inn is currently undergoing a major reconstruction project, which starts early in the morning and ends late at night., including weekends. There does not appear to be breakfast included, and customers now need to pay for parking, despite this area being fairly rural and parking in ample supply. The indoor pool also is currently closed due to the construction. None of this information was included on the hotel's website, nor in the confirmation email. The rooms are decent, so if you're OK staying here and putting on a construction mask and hard hat to get through the dusty lobby, then go for it! Unfortunately, this is not the first time this Garden Inn has suffered from truth-in-advertising issues, so this visit was particularly disappointing. If you must stay here, please call before you do to make sure standard amenities are available. The desk person said Hilton Corp told them they couldn't put notice of the construction project on their website, which may or may not be true, so looks like you'll be on your own at this property. Hotel shows some age, carpet feels old and wear marks are on the wall. Bathroom seems to be also worn out. However, the people working here is awesome - always smiling and always helpful. I must say the customer service is top notch here. Meal service is something to desire - waitress and waiter are all great people, but food quality is not great. Paper thin walls, AC unit which sounds like the transmission on a 1970 Dodge Dart. Stay away from room 200 at all costs. I didn't fully realize the issues in this room until the night of checkout when the hotel filled up. Temps outside in the 20s caused me to actually turn on the heater. Ran so-so for a while but eventually sounded like we were on a highway to hell. Being right next to the stairs caused other issues as women in pumps going down the stairs or maybe dragging their suitcases or something caused enough racket that it woke me up with these paper thin walls. I realize that you don't have a lot of options in Calvert Co. Maybe next time I'll try another part of the county. read more

We stayed here for our anniversary as a getaway while my mom watched our 3 year old twins. We didn't spend much time in the hotel, but we only wanted 2 things from it: a place to sleep late and a quick breakfast. The room was comfortable and we slept in well with room darkening curtains (Though if our kids were here, I'd complain that they were a bit too short). We went down for the 6.95 or 9.95 breakfast. The sign said "please be seated and we will be with you shortly." About half of the tables looked like they needed to be cleared but we weren't sure if someone was sitting there. We finally found a seat in a corner and told the server that we were over there because we feared being missed. While sitting there, we overheard folks saying that they were out of certain items or their meals hadn't been delivered correctly. After 10 minutes of waiting to be seen, we saw the writing on the wall and just left. We mentioned to the woman at the front desk that the hotel needed another server on Sunday morning of a holiday weekend. We decided to go elsewhere. This was frustrating because we were hungry and also needed to shower but going to the another restaurant wouldn't leave us enough time to shower afterwards and we were too hungry to shower and then leave for breakfast. So, we also didn't get the shower and relaxing time before going home to toddler twins. It also turned out that every other breakfast option was packed and we just drove home and ended up at a rest stop. Pretty disappointed. read more

Enjoyed a pleasant overnight stay here this past weekend! Our room, the lobby, and other areas of the hotel were sparkling clean (particularly important now) and the staff were friendly and accommodating (we were in town for a wedding, so the early check in to get ready in our room was greatly appreciated). Although the restaurant and bar area were closed (I'm assuming due to COVID), there is a lovely outdoor seating area where we were able to enjoy a late night glass of wine and a snack from the very reasonably priced lobby store. Additionally, since they weren't offering the continental breakfast, I saw a sign saying they were offering 'to go' bags of breakfast food, which I thought was a nice touch. Such a great hotel. We were married here 4 years ago! A great location for events. A nice ballroom with a removable dance floor. They take care of everything. The center peices included! I told them what I wanted and they made it happen. The food is phenomenal! We had chicken Chesapeake and prime rib. I normally am not a prime rib fan, but it was delicious. All the food was hot and amazing. Now for some cons (too small to take a star away!) my first event planner was not great. She was horrible. I made several complaints to the managers about her and after a few months she ended up being let go because of my clomplaints and several others from other brides. She was replaced with someone who really made my wedding. She was great! Another con was that the original planner quoted me wrong prices and the hotel didn't want to honor them at first. In fact 4 days before my wedding they called me in and tried to up the charges! Knowing full well I couldn't say no and go somewhere else. After a long talk where we told them that we would absolutely not be paying, they ended up honoring the original price. In the end, everything went off without a hitch! read more

Beautiful reception area and grounds, but sadly, the stay could be better. The beds are extremely hard and just one night's stay left me with a very sore back. This was the first time a hotel stay has ever affected my mobility. Beware. I'm still giving three stars for very friendly staff, beutifully kept grounds, and location. This is probably the best hotel in the area. Although it is a bit of a drive from the Tiki Bar, it is worth the distance. The rooms are decent and clean. The room price is a little higher than other hotels in the area, but if you ever stayed at any of them, you would understand why! Our room came with 2 queen sized beds, a refrigerator and a microwave. The hotel has a friendly staff, a decent bar, and great food. What more can you ask for? Beautiful reception area with friendly staff at the check in desk. The walls are thin and conversations could be heard from other rooms. It was hard to rest because of the constant noise of doors slamming, people walking past, etc. The beds are extremely hard and uncomfortable. Air conditioner was loud and woke me every time it cycled on. The breakfast buffet at $10/pp was lacking. There were lots of flies all over the buffet. The waitress was quite rude and curt. All the food on the buffet is pre-cooked (soggy hash browns, dried sausage, burnt greasy bacon, cold oatmeal, cold coffee). Very disappointing. The pool was nice and clean. The gym could have used a bike or other equipment. read more

This place needs some serious updating. The carpet in the room was warn so thin you could see empty patches all around. But it did look like something from the 1960's, so maybe that could be why. The AC was quite loud and the walls were so thin you could hear the conversation in any nearby room or in the hallway. The breakfast buffet at $10- a head boasted eggs and hash browns which were terribly off. Some funky margarine or spoiled oil was used to cook them leaving them inedible. Based on a previous visit, I would have dished out a 4 or 5 star review, but during my last visit, I ended up with a bunch of mysterious bites on my legs. From what I read, they do not have the characteristics of bed bugs, but I certainly was bit by something. My work travels often bring me and other co-workers to this location, so I hope that the staff is trained to detect pest problems and that this is a one time occurrence. read more

Visited Solomon's Island for a quick getaway in August 2014. I am a Hilton Honors member and although the Comfort Inn was a few bucks cheaper per night, I know what I prefer ;). Check in was very quick, easy, and no-hassle. The room was just as pictured and the amenities were provided. There is a restaurant across the parking lot and several others within a short driving distance. The hotel is close to the main road/highway so getting to other destinations from there wasn't an issue at all. Very happy with my stay. read more

The rooms were nice, and the staff was kind, but I had the largest issue with the breakfast. The quality of the breakfast bar was below that of Best Westerns I've stayed at, and it costs nearly $10. The potato pancake had 0 potato and was simply a burnt crisp outer shell. My omelette was made wrong twice, and the fruit was soggy and old. That breakfast was not worth any money at all. Also the water bottles for $1 in the rooms was silly. I've been in plenty of hotel rooms that offer a free bottle of water. It's the little things that make a good customer experience like free water and either a complimentary breakfast or a high quality breakfast if it will be $10. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE. I just got a $230 additional room charge because they said our room "smelled of smoke" and my boyfriend and I aren't even smokers!!! I asked to clear up the situation the same day I got the charge and was told I have to wait a day because they didn't have the authority to do anything about it. Also, their "breakfast included" perk is not really a perk. You're only allowed certain cheap things at the breakfast bar like cereal. I would recommend staying somewhere else and going into town for breakfast - Lotus has really good, cheap breakfast. read more

Had to ask for manager, finally got him checked in. Couldn't get in early to get ready for wedding, After the wedding same issue couldn't get my mom checked in and they then called the police on her because the clerk, young said she felt unsafe from an almost 80 year old????? What???? I am disappointed as read now for a bottle of water is $1.50 no more free unless you are a silver member??? OMG is this the HILTON? WTH? Front desk is so-so; breakfast service is terrible--went down this morning at 650 and asked for two poached eggs. At 710 still no eggs. It takes only three minutes to poach eggs. Also had no spare rolls of toilet paper; asked the front desk to ensure we had them. By 10am, still no toilet paper. After leaving a lower priced area hotel due to just plain being scared to sleep in their room we ran straight to Hilton Garden Inn. I don't know why I even thought of going somewhere else. The staff was so nice and as much as I think Hilton should offer a free breakfast - it was delicious and worth every penny. Made to order omelette, home fries, fruit. So good. I told the waitress my kids like crispy bacon and she brought a whole plate full out. I was there with my mom and my 3 kids. We asked for connecting rooms and it was no problem. I can't say enough about the friendly staff and nice rooms. I will never stray from Hilton again!!! I only gave 4 stars because my room did have a B.O smell which I got over but it was obvious. I've been travelling for business and fun for ever. I'll have a hard time coming up with bad things to say, so I'll start right off with the positives. I gave them 5 stars vs 4 because of the wait staff's attitude to go above and beyond. They overheard us mumbling about our anniversary, and upgraded us to a suite, and provided us with complimentary chocolate dipped strawberries with a drink. But before that I was already pleased from the point of driving into ample parking, an attractive, large, and homey lobby, and desk clerks who greet you promptly and friendly-ly. Our room was nice-- the real plus is the adjustable comfort beds. One side can be hard as a rock, the other as soft as you might like it! The suite had two large TVs, and a fridge... which I'm beginning to look at as more of a necessity when travelling than before. We tend to hop from location to location, but my husband has vowed that we'll be returning there again soon. read more
