Wheee to start.. we stood by and watch the host attend the other couple with personality and spirit so I thought we was in for a fun treat once they left. WRONG. When we finally did get our first 1 of 8 tasting she darted over to the table poured the shot and that was that. No the location was not busy. My fiance and I where the only ones at the tasting.. as other guest walked in she was full in tune. So she has personality and is very personable and quiet friendly,maybe because we where not locals.. the wine was okay..and I always take love to bottle. This was a very interesting visit here at the Hilton vineyards. When we arrived we sat at the table for 20 minutes before the owner approached our table. Once she came over she redeemed my Groupon then walked away again for another 10 mins. (Read between the lines) I had to ask "is today a good day?" After that it got better. Went in on a Saturday afternoon to do a tasting. It wasn't crowded. There was free two hour parking on the street and despite the holiday pumpkin event for children taking place. Sat at the bar and was given 9 tastings. One of the tastings was not too great so Leslie gave an extra. Funny thing was the one she replaced I loved! I am typically a red wine drinker so the dream catcher merlot was nice and had a good finish. I actually liked the watermelon and apple Riesling (sweet apple) as well. Took home a few bottles. I enjoyed the cheese tray and wine glasses. But the package you get varies. The restrooms were clean. Overall I recommend. It's a distance from center city charlotte but a relaxing ride and worth it. I'll be back to the future events winter wonderland. I'm sure it will be a blast! read more

Located in downtown Monroe, neat little place right off one of the main streets in downtown. Parking isn't a problem as you can park right on the streets and it's free. Staff was super friendly and we did a wine tasting with several others that came in around the same time. They have a several traditional NC wines and even more of the semi-sweet or sweeter wines (I like both). Bottles are reasonable, $10-$15 for most. We really enjoyed the tasting, bought a bottle and sat outside along the street and enjoyed the day. Would recommend!! read more

They have a larger selection of fruity/sweet wines than anything else and this also happens to be the better of their selection between the dry vs sweet wines. The staff is very warm and friendly. We went for a wine-tasting walked in they welcomed is as if we were regulars. There wasn't a whole lot of explanation regarding the wine composition during the tasting, but after the 3rd glass or so who even cares?! We were instructed to select 8 wines each of about 30 wines. I will admit that initially I was skeptical about the raw-looking/bar set-up, but it's a cool place. I would visit here again. The wine slushies are addictive. There is even karaoke. read more

A great winery! They have kind staff with a wide array of interesting flavored wine. The space is small though and if you don't like untraditional flavored wine you may not like this place. The backstory we were given is that the wine is all hand made by a 85 year old women who started this as a hobby. I loved the heated Apple cran-cinnamon. Hilton Vineyards is located off Main Street in Monroe. Not technically a vineyard, because there aren't exactly grapes, this is the cutest place to stop in for a wine slushie and hang out and people watch on a nice day. I came in with some friends after we had purchased a Groupon for a tasting for 4, that included wine glasses and 2 cheese plates. I was skeptical of the place when we were given slices of cheese on a plastic plate with a roll of Ritz crackers and a handful of grapes and 2 chocolate covered strawberries. The presentation left a bit to be desired. You're given a list of their wines and you pick 8 to try. The owner was up front and asked us not to tell him if it was something we didn't like, because he was partial to all of them. After a couple of tries he warmed up to our group. It is definitely a family affair with 3 generations working. It was such a pleasant experience and I will come back. I settled on a plum wine with a little bit of carbonation in it. It was delicious. The wines were all good, but that one was my favorite by far. The only complaint I have was ( I think it was the mother) who smoked about every 10 minutes right outside the front door. If we were further inside I don't think I would have noticed, but we were also right next to the door, and it put a little damper when it would waft in. But please don't let that stop you from coming in. This place is fantastic. You feel right at home, and they have great wine. read more

The wines are mixed when it comes to taste, though the wines are not vintage they are suprisingly good. The ones I liked are the Merlot, followed by the Plum Pinot Noir, then tried the sweet Mango wine and then lastly you can never leave without trying either the pomegranate slushie or peach bellini slushie. The owners are really nice and you can feel that its a home grown local business. We went on a sunday where the street of Monroe are empty like a ghost town, but voila once we entered the shop, it is packed. Groupon has a deal currently going on and it was a deal best served. We had a great time here last weekend and are already planning on going back next weekend with my parents! We went on a Sunday afternoon and we had the undivided attention of the server, who was awesome!! She was very knowledgeable about the wines and helped us to decide on which of the wines to sample. We came in with a Groupon and it was very easy to redeem, no strings attached. We bought a bottle of the Pinot Grigio to sip outside ($10 for a bottle, or $5/glass...definitely get the bottle, and they can recork it for you so you can bring home what you don't finish). Went to the Crow Rd location for the first time. Let me just say that will be the last time. When we arrived and went inside the "hostess" (the one with dark hair) had just started a tasting. Told her we were there for a tasting as well and she offered to join that one or wait for that one to be over. At that time there were no other people waiting so we would be next. We chose to wait in the open area instead of the bar where the tasting was to be held. While waiting, several other people came in. When that tasting was over a couple sat at the bar area where the tasting was to take place. There were only 4 spaces and with them sitting, that left 2. We had 4 in our party. The "hostess" proceeds to assist the couple seated instead of letting them know we were next in line for a tasting. Upon seeing this, my sister went to the bar to find out what was going on. The "hostess" ignored her, continuing to assist the couple. My sister remained there, being ignored. When she didn't leave the "hostess" looked up and said, "hi, I'll be with you in a minute" as if we were not there before the couple. When confronted with the issue, the "hostess" pretended like she was confused and didn't understand the problem, while being apologetic to the couple. My sister asked to speak with the manager with which the "hostess" replied, "I am the manager." With nothing being resolved, the "hostess/manager" called someone on her phone. Shortly, another person came to assist us. Although the situation was not handled properly by the "hostess/manager", we did stay for the tasting because it was already paid for. While I would never want to call anyone racist, this was one of the most openly racist incidents I've encountered recently. Oh, I didn't mention that my party was black and the couple and the previous group before us was white, did I? Also, while the first tasting was going on, another black lady (not in my party) approached the bar for a glass of wine and was told, "I'll be with you shortly" and never got the wine. My husband and I went for a wine tasting yesterday, absolutely adorable! The lady that served us was very friendly and told us some history about the owners . My husbands favorite was just peachy. I had a few but the Apple- cranberry served warm for the holidays was amazing ! The lady told us to put it in a crockpot with mulling spices. We bought a few bottles to make for Christmas Eve! I have been by a couple of times and figured I should finally do a review. The shop is on Main Street (the shade side in the afternoon) and its nice to use the sidewalk seating. I'm not a huge wine fan but their slushy drinks are really nice on a hot summer day. They have lots of events and everybody seems very nice. Give it a shot of your in the area. read more

My boyfriend and I came here to take advantage of a Groupon we purchased. $15 for a cheese plate, and 8 wine samples per person, plus souvenir wine glasses. They have quite a large selection of mostly fruit based wines. The atmosphere and service were excellent but the wine was only fair ( hence my two stars) I tried the following wines: Cynthiana Malbec, Merlot, Chardonel, Dry Blackberry, Plum Pinot Noir, Apple Riesling, Pomegranate, and Pineapple Pear. The Malbec and Merlot were not full bodied, they seemed watery and thin. Not exactly what one expects from a Merlot or Malbec. The Dry blackberry tasted like juice, didn't have the fullness I would have expected. The Chardonel was good. A bit fuller bodied but again had almost a watery taste. They seem to do the sweet, light wines better. Of the wines I tasted the Apple Riesling was the best, in my opinion. We did purchase a bottle of the Apple Riesling to take home to drink in the very hot summer months. In my opinion, if you are a 21 year old used to drinking very sweet cocktails and are looking to "try" wine, this would be the place to start. If you are an experienced wine drinker, I would skip this place. There are far superior vineyards in the Charlotte area that would be a better bet. read more
