I've never written a Yelp review but Himalaya Cafe was such a pleasant surprise in every sense that I need to give them a shout out. We just found our new favorite breakfast spot in town! Awesome decor with comfortable seats and a big open bar area. The food was fresh, delicious, filling, and made with lots of love. I had the egg/avocado toast (like a gourmet egg sandwich) and my wife and daughter had the cinnamon French toast. All of it was excellent and I am eager to try out different breakfast options and to see how their lunch and dinner is. Definitely the best price you can find for breakfast anywhere near here, especially for the quality. Server and chef very attentive and friendly. FYI: Apparently it is BYOB until they renew their liquor license...it would be a cool spot to have a drink. Go check this place out! read more

My husband and I came in with our one year old last night and we had such a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was beautiful and inviting, the service was excellent - she took such great care of us and the chefs in the open kitchen were warm and friendly. The food was delicious. We love naan and theirs was perfection - soft pillowy. It was maybe the best Indian meal we've ever had - and we are huge lovers of Indian food. Can't recommend enough. read more

This small Indian bistro opened up recently. It's cozy, and only has seating for about 20 people. It also has a bar area with a view of the open kitchen. When I was there, I had the Chicken Curry (hot) with the Garlic Naan. The Naan could have used a pinch of salt, but it was great for soaking up the curry. The Chicken Curry was delicious, tasted authentic, and was surprisingly spicy. When they said that it was hot, they weren't kidding! I quickly ordered a Mango Lassi to cut down on the fire in my belly. I'd order it again, but I might go for Medium next time. I also had a Gulab Jamun for dessert. It was good, but they are small and you only get one of them. They are only $3 each, so I'd order two next time. I think that I'll come back again, or maybe I'll just try the Vegetarian Indian place next door. Heck, I might go to both of them at once because they're in the same building. We had a super meal with friends -- they had been recently, we had not been since before Covid. Our meal was delicious, the ambience even cozier than we remembered, and the service was excellent. We shared an appetizer and pappadum, then had three entrees, which was plenty for the four of us: chicken tandoori, vegetable korama and a shrimp dish. All wonderful, perfectly cooked, and washed down with a delicious rose, it was just a delightful dining experience. With beers and plenty of wine, the bill was completely reasonable, another bonus. We were also pleased to see a nice deck, ready for outdoor dining in warm weather. We all agreed that we need to go to Himalaya Cafe more regularly. Delicious!! Very tasty. My son and I went there after his baseball game. We arrived close to closing. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. We didn't feel rushed. The garlic naan was amazing as well as the chicken tikka. The lamb vindaloo was so tender and tasty. It's moderately priced but I did feel like the chicken and lamb portions were small. What a surprise! I moved here over a year ago and have been searching for a restaurant that offers authentic Indian cuisine. Well - I found it. The food - authentic, delicious and very reasonably priced. The decor - big comfy chairs, unique artwork, and a beautiful bar where you can watch the chef prepare the meals. Found through yelp during a long drive. All food had wonderfully authentic flavors and staff was incredibly friendly. Ate at the bar and chef Deepak came over several times to check on us. Trained at a culinary institute in India and has worked here for years. Fantastic chef! Bartender Rachel wonderful also. Tried this spot on a whim after recently getting very into Indian food and it far exceeded our expectations. The inside is very cute with a cool little bar, the food and service were both off the charts and to top it all off the staff was very considerate and accommodating of the fact that we had our 11 week old baby with us. I recently moved to the shoreline area of Connecticut, and have been actively seeking restaurants to replace favorites from my former hometown...and Himalaya Cafe is, in my arrogant opinion, one of the best restaurants in this entire area! I really think it is easily as good as Indian restaurants I have enjoyed in DC, London, and NY... The food is wonderful, the atmosphere charming, and the owners/staff are just lovely. The pappadams are light and delicious, as is the daal...also excellent are the tandoori entrees and all the vegetarian dishes...the garlic naan was great...we kept ordering more...even the rice pudding was good! I prefer negative rating for this restaurant , I'm one of the regular customer to this restaurant. last week i had ordered a Mix grill chicken and i had a very bad experience the food i got from them was stale i can tell that it was kept in freezer for more than 3 days and when I ordered they just heated and gave it to me , this might happens sometimes But last night i placed a takeout order of lamb biryani and asked them for "indian hot" and they just added chilly flakes over the biryani . Wow! We were visiting friends in Old Lyme for the weekend and looking for a place to eat at for dinner. This place had great reviews and so we gave it a chance. We are so glad we did! I'm from CA and have had amazing food there. This restaurant is up to par to my favorite Indian restaurants in California. The mango lassi was very flavorful and not too sweet. The chicken saag was also very flavorful and fresh. We are looking forward to our next trip to Himalayan restaurant next time we are visiting Old Lyme. read more

The passion and pride for their food and the experience their guests receive means a delicious healthful meal. I have been in the wellness field for a long time and believe the key to health is eating well sourced fresh and properly cooked food. The ingredients are well curated fresh and full of flavor.
