My friend and I came here on his recommendation, and it absolutely blew me away. I would have never even considered trying a Himalayan place before, and I'm so glad he convinced me to try it. This place is set up in a fast casual food sort of way, and the menu is simple enough so that even a Himalayan-food newbie like myself can quickly figure out what to order. They have spiciness indicators to give you fair warning about what items you likely would (or wouldn't) enjoy, and I picked a more-than-medium-but-still-quite-hot dish, the chili chicken. While there wasn't enough water in the world to quench my thirst after eating this, it was still delicious and a very pleasant hot sensation, with just the right mix of spices and sauces to strike your palate the right way. The service was great and very pleasant, although I had a difficult time understanding one of the explanations of the counter person. They brought our order to our table and checked up on us later as well, quite good for a restaurant of this nature. Pricing was extremely fair given the sheer volume of chicken and rice they give you; definitely enough for two meals, even if you eat heartily like I do. A word to the wise: I love spicy food and figured I'd have no challenge here, though the food here is, to put it in a word: fiery. Again, I loved it, though it might help you to think of the mild here as medium elsewhere and their medium as pretty darn hot. With that warning out of the way, I highly recommend you give this place a shot, it's unique and unquestionably delicious! If you want homey food, THIS is the place to be! My roommate and I were craving rice-based dishes, and we found ourselves here. The menu is limited, but I think they focus on making their select dishes as good and authentic as possible. We both ordered butter chicken, and I ordered lassi. It was ready-made (there are some made-to-order dishes too though) and served to us on a styrofoam plate and plastic tray. The simple presentation might put some people off, but having had and loved street food in foreign countries (and American food trucks), this was a little slice of heaven for me. It is served over rice and you get it when you order They also have a house made hot sauce that pairs nicely with the chicken that you have to ask for when you pay. Pretty good curry but a great serving for the price. The sweet pork curry is my go to because the pork is nice and tender. All their curries are very mild but adding their chili sauce and the dark sauce (I've never known what it is but it's really tasty with the curry) definitely kicks the curry up a few notches. In Blacksburg, when I was a freshman one day I noticed a shop called Himalayan curry cafe and went in because I never had Himalayan style curry before and wanted to give it a try. Now being a senior I still go to this place because it is pretty good! A lot of my friends and I absolutely love their sweet and spicy pork curry. The taste of it is pretty good, and when it covers the rice its amazing. Going to Himalayan curry they also have this unique hot sauce and a sweet soy sauce. Adding these two sauces to your curry (or anything really at this shop) makes the dish that much more amazing for me. Out of all their menu options my top 5 dishes here are the sweet and spicy pork curry, chicken biryani, vegetable curry, fried rice, and their samosa's. Beside getting their pork curry sometimes I like to get their biryani which is a flavorful rice dish. A nice addition is also their samosas which come with a green sauce. This is a great place. Very nice people at the counter. They weren't super-busy, but had a fairly steady stream of customers. The Samosas are gargantuan and they taste great without the sauce. Their green sauce put it at the next level. The Biryani was very flavorful and the perfect amount of spicy. Our lips and gums were tingling. My friends and I stopped by on our first night in town, and the Himalayan Curry Cafe is a true revelation and gem. It is modest in many ways - small storefront, simple menu, inexpensive prices, and a single proprietor. But once we tasted the curries, we were hooked for sure. We each tried a different selection (except the veggie), which was easy since there are only four different kinds to choose from. The pork was the best, in my opinion, but the chicken and beef were very tasty as well. They are all saucy and served with basmati rice on the side, and are made even better with hoisin or garlic hot sauce that is on the table. Even the lentil soup was amazingly delicious, and the next time I stop by I'll have to try the cold Kheer (a sweet, chilled veggie mix). The best part is that everything was a straight $5.50, with the lentil soup and Kheer being $3.00. Did I mention this place was super cheap? I did about three times, but it's worth another mention. We didn't spend more than 8 bucks apiece and we were so full afterwards. I think this may become a go-to spot for us every time we head to Blacksburg. read more

I could be really skeptical when it comes to an exotic cuisine. When I had it at first, it was alright, and then it really grew on me, and now, I come here too often. They give you a lot of food for the price. FOOD: (5/5) *Authenticity: the food here is not strictly from a certain country but a fusion of Tibetan, Chinese and Indian food. Trust me, it's a good combination. *Menu: - Curry: they have different types of curry. My favorite is the Spicy Chicken curry. They give you small sample cups if you want to try. The curry goes really with their signature Himalayan sauce (the orange sauce). The cilantro topping adds good freshness to the rich curry sauce. They do half and half for the curry also (for example: half chicken half vegetable curry). - Fried rice: the fried rice is dry (which is a good thing for fried rice) and flavorful. I love it. - Samosas: I love their homemade samosas. The samosa comes with the green sauce. I like it better with the Himalayan sauce. - Momos (steamed dumplings): It's similar to Chinese dumplings but with some Tibetan twist. The momos come with the chili paste sauce. It's even better if you ask them to add some soy sauce to the chili paste. - Chili and Chung King: Chinese style stir fried meat (chicken or pork) with some peppers. It's not as flavorful as it looks. I'm not a fan, but people seem to like it. - Lassi: don't miss the homemade yogurt. Grab one from the fridge when it's available!
