Everything was super good BUT the lamb vindaloo (extra spicy) and the soup momos are delicious! Sadly the one photo with three different foods, the left one we cannot remember what it was but that was also super good! We have been here four times now since finding this. We did order through Uber Eats and sadly it was slower than it said it would be for delivering and we didn't get any money back but not sure if it's Ubers fault or the restaurant. Stopped in to Himalayan Restaurant to have the lunch buffet to see how the new management is doing. Although I was the only one eating in the restaurant they were doing a nice takeout and delivery business. Located on Lorain Road in a standalone building is a nice compact restaurant. There is a compact, but nice dining room. The lunch buffet is set up in the front area to your right as you come in the front door. The buffet is $12 per person. The buffet is nicely set up and fresh. There was 2 chicken dishes, two vegetarian dishes plus rice, vegie chow mein, pakora, salad, fruit and dessert. I was very impressed with the food I tried, everything was fresh and the flavors were really distinct and the spices were well balanced. The Dal and the vegetable Korma were both quite tasty if a bit soupy. The fried pakora were some of the best I have had, perfectly fried to a crispy exterior and delicious inside. The plain chow mein was simple, but very flavorful. The fresh Naan that was delivered to the table was excellent as well. A good selection of sauces and pickles complimented the meal as well. Ending the meal with some nice fresh melon and a couple of the warm Gulab Jamun, crisp dumplings in a sweet sauce. Yummy. The lunch buffet and the food overall at Himalayan Restaurant is excellent. Flavors are really good and the food is very well prepared. I would have liked to see more of the Nepali items on the buffet as opposed to the Indian food items, but it is hard to complain when the food is this good. read more

Himalayan Restaurant was such a hidden gem to me. I'm absolutely thrilled to have found it. We were hungry one evening and randomly saw it on delivery and thought we'd give it a chance. Let me tell you, we're now absolutely hooked and have again ordered multiple times. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about any restaurant. This might be the best chicken tikka masala in Cleveland and I do not say that casually. It's a generous portion with the most delicious sauce. It hits the spot every single time. We always wish we had more! The paneer pakora is also excellent as is the Himalayan chicken 555. Along with the chicken tikka masala, this is our order every time! I also recommend trying some new-to-you things from their Nepali menu, because it does not get any more authentic. Another cool thing about Himalayan is that you can order delivery and takeout directly on the Yelp mobile app or website. If you're looking for authentic Nepali and Indian food, this is your place. The food was fine and came quickly but it wasn't as flavorful as we expected. The problem was cleanliness. The women's restroom was filthy. The switch plate had black grime all over it, the floor was sticky, there was no toilet paper, the doorknob and sink handles were very dirty. Our table had glass over the tablecloth, but the sides of the tablecloth had food and sauce dripping down. We changed tables and the 2nd was better but still not great. Did some dinnertime takeout here recently (but forgot to take pictures). Ordering was easy and the pick-up process (due to COVID-19) was very safe and efficient. Wife and I ordered a bunch of items to share and sample...samosas, garlic naan, aaloo gobhi, chicken tikka masala. Everything was still hot and fresh when I got it home! Their tikka dish had a ton of extra sauce, which was great for sopping it up with the garlic naan. Their naan was slightly chewy but had a nice char on it as well. The aaloo gobhi had huge chunks of potato and cauliflower along with a fragrant (and spicy!) sauce...set atop a pile of jasmine rice made for some delicious bites. Finally, the samosas had a moist and flavorful veg filling and topping it off with both the provided sauces made for some outstanding eats. I love this place - I can't believe I've taken this long to write them a review! I've dined in and gotten take out many times, so I've probably tried at least half of the menu and food is always great, fresh, and flavorful. The portions are large and they are happy to bring you more rice and sauces. Definitely try the gobi 55 (mildly spicy fried cauliflower). I also recommend the lunch special they came up with after they had to close the buffet: for $10, you get soup, bread, chicken or vegetable curry, rice, a side of spicy pickled vegetable salad, and a little donut for dessert. They are really nice people, too. If you are a virus enthusiast, I see them do a good volume of take out business with contact-less pick up. read more

Deliciousness - 3.5/5 Happiness - 4/5 Let me preface by saying I've never had Nepali food before. So the uniqueness alone earns this place one star. Also, I have no frame of reference for comparison. I also did delivery on this one, so nothing to report regarding the decor or service (although the meal was prepped quickly, it came 20 mins. before the estimated delivery date). I'll start with the best. The mulligatawny soup was a real winner. It had a nice spice level with perfectly cooked rice. Even my kids really enjoyed it, and they were apprehensive to try it at first. The other top option was the Himalayan chili chicken. You get a mountain-ful (pun... INTENDED) of chicken, it'll easily last for leftovers. The coating is perfect, and the chunks of meat are big and tender. The sauce has a pleasant spice that kicks some life into the accompanying rice without burning out your mouth. It's not the most unique item on the menu, but it's delicious (and reminiscent of General Tso's chicken for those wondering). The most fun thing we tried was the pani puri, which was like nothing I've had prior. Essentially, you pour some stewed flavored water into a shell with chickpeas (or a filling of your choice). It was an experience in addition to being tasty. That said, I wasn't a huge fan (though my wife enjoyed it a lot more than me). I thought everything came out a bit soggy, although that may have been user error on my part! The one thing that disappointed were the naan breads. My family loves naan and we ordered several different kinds, but it was all pretty bland and too doughy. The only one that was worthwhile was the lamb-stuffed keema naan, but even that was only mildly interesting. I'd pass on the carbs here and explore more Nepali cuisine next time as I didn't even reach the peak (more puns!) of what this menu has to offer Keep in mind that they have more well-known Eastern dishes like tandoori, rice bowls, and curries. But I think you'd be selling yourself short if you go with those unless you're eating here all the time. This was a fun time and I recommend it. read more

I tried the buffet several weeks ago, which apparently they don't offer anymore. Which I can see why, it probably wasnt very popular. There were a few things on the buffet that were tasty, including the soups and a curry chicken dish. None of the food was very hot temperature wise either. I love Indian food but I am obsessed with Momos since trying them with my son in Denver ordered Uber eats this evening. The momos are and were amazing. The choila with tofu was very very good and I am not a tofu person. The cauliflower app was delicious with the yogurt dip I also ordered. Between no music, warm water and an hour wait I don't recommend dining it. However the food was pretty tasty. So I'll be honest this is my first experience with Himalayan food and it was different than when I expected, but that doesn't mean it wasn't great. There were some flavor profiles that I am used to having being subtle and living in the background that were definitely the forefront of these dishes. Not having any experience with Himalayan food I'm honestly not sure what is supposed to taste like however I can tell you that everything was perfectly cooked and the flavors married well together. My food was ready ahead of schedule and was sitting in a sanitized area. If you're a fan of Himalayan food or just want to try it out for the first time I imagine that this place is top notch. I was expecting there to be more of an Asian influence and the sauces were definitely more tomato-based which I did enjoy. Try it out, if nothing else you can say you ate Himalayan food. read more

If I had to describe this restaurant in one word it would be: homey. The food from them warmed us up on a cold rainy evening. I really enjoyed the free fried chips they gave us that came with tamarind and cilantro chutney. The appetizers were great. The pakoras were nice and crispy and the fried paneer was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. All of the people in our group ordered the jhol momo which was absolutely delightful. I would recommend getting naan to dip in the momo as you eat it because you get a fair amount of broth. The mimos were tender and soaked up all of the broth that came with it. To celebrate my recent graduation, my husband and I thought it would be fun to go out to dinner with family and friends. We called and made reservations for the day and time (for 8pm on a Saturday) for 14 people. When we arrived, the manager had no idea that we had a reservation, and no tables were set up and nothing was prepared. Not a big deal, our friends arranged the tables in the back room so that we'd all be able to sit. Not every seat had napkins, silverware, but we did have cups for water. It was not busy in the restaurant, there were only two people in the main dining room. The service, although friendly, was extremely slow. A few times members of our party had to track down a waitress to ask for straws, more water, and utensils. Our meals came out at various intervals, with some members of our party waiting nearly an hour for their meals while others received theirs within about 15-20 minutes. Service was honestly in a bit of disarray, but the waitresses were very friendly and apologetic when food service was all over the place. There was also some confusion when it came to ordering-my cousin was told they were out of eggplant for her dish and that she'd have to order something else...but then they came out with the dish for her. But one of our friends ordered the same thing, and they had her order something else and then brought that one out. Go figure. Now onto the food- The food, once it came out, was good! I wouldn't say it's my favorite place, but it's definitely a solid option. The food was clean and not too oily (a pet peeve of mine when it comes to curries), cooked well, and smelled great! Everything was cooked just right-nothing was over/under done, and was well seasoned. There was a lot of food sharing around the tables, and everyone was pleased with their food. Many of our friends said that they'd like to go back...just in smaller groups, because it seemed like our group of 14 people overwhelmed them. I can't imagine if the front room was also busy at the same time! I know that the restaurant is new, and so they have kinks to work out to get the flow of service down, as well as flow in the kitchen. But once they get that, I know they'll become very popular! The food speaks for itself, the staff is friendly, and the restaurant itself is very clean. We'll definitely be back, just in smaller groups! We're looking forward to hopefully trying out their weekend buffet soon. PS-there appears to be only street parking, unless we missed a back lot or something as we were all arriving at night. read more

Being somewhat familiar with Indian food and totally clueless as to what Nepali food really is, I was glad to see they have a lunch buffet so I could sample a variety of things. The sauce that came with the momo was like a peanut coconut milk sauce, had a nice bite to it. Only thing we found odd is we did not get rice with our saucy entrees. Is this normal?
