First time trying Nepali food in Ohio! At first we were a bit nervous about the place because the outside photos didn't look very nice but inside was nice and bright! We ordered chicken Jhol Momo, steamed Momo and vegetarian c Momo. Overall I think the momos could have more flavor and be more soicy. My favorite ended up being the c Momo for this reason. The exterior of the place is unassuming, but the decor inside is lovely, and the tables are covered with white tablecloths. And most importantly, the food is DELICIOUS. For lunch, my friend and I split a pani poori appetizer, thali with goat, and chicken jhol momo. Before our appetizer arrived, the server presented us with complimentary bowls of lentil soup. The soup was warm, flavorful, and comforting, perfect for January weather. Next came the pani poori. The little crispy balls were served cold and made for refreshing & tasty treats. They were great on their own and even better when dipped into the accompanying "sour water," which was a bit spicy and equally refreshing (FYI - the sour water is heavy on the cilantro, so if you don't like cilantro, just be aware!). The thali came with an abundance of food, and we enjoyed almost everything on it. The platter came with a few different curries that were all delicious and well-spiced. One of them had a good portion of tender goat, and another had fried cauliflower and potatoes I couldn't get enough of. The thali also came with a scoop of rice. When we were done with the scoop of rice but only halfway done with the curries, the staff was sweet enough to bring us an extra plate of rice to soak up the rest of the curries. The platter also came with a piece of gulab jamun, which was sweet and rich. In addition, the thali came with a small serving of mango achar. I took a bite, and the pickled mango took my tongue on a journey, LOL. First, I got hit with the super saltiness, then the super sourness, and finally the lingering, intense spiciness. I can't say the mango achar was to my liking, but I don't regret trying it! Had cafe Everest for the 2nd time and wow it's truly so so delicious. We get a bunch of entrees and share family style and even when we get it to go it tastes fresh and hot. The food quality is fresh, adequately spicy without being overbearing, and the portions are satisfying for the average person. I had a delicious Nepalese meal here with a group of about 25. The owner was delightful and came out to talk to us about the food and how he started the restaurant. Props to our server who was friendly and efficient. The dishes were a parade of complex flavor and spice blends and many of us shared so we could try different things. What an absolute pleasure this meal was! We started with the veg chili momo, which were delightfully spicy and deep-fried and hit like a chicken wing-dumpling hybrid. My partner had the goat thukpa and said it was the least gamey and tastiest goat he'd ever had. He ordered it medium, but I caught him sweating. I had the dal tarka, perfectly spiced at medium level with an intriguing blend of herbs and spices. Service was quick and super friendly, and they even brought us complimentary lentil soup to start, which was a lovely surprise. First time trying Nepali food. The momos were excellent. I keep craving it over and over again. It has flavours that ooze in your mouth. The noodles were a bit dry. The place is very clean and ample amount of seats. They were super busy. The service when provided was good, but it was super slow. The food took a while to come out. Highly highly recommend this Nepali/Indian restaurant. It's a relatively unassuming looking restaurant from the outside but the food here was fantastic. I ordered a vegetable pakora (highly recommend - very crispy and with a huge serving size for an app), chicken jhol momo (chicken dumpling in a delicious broth), and goat thali (a little salty, but very balanced portions and it was still satisfying). I'd never had Nepali food before and I was missing out because it's really good! We started with the samosas (4/5) and the sel roti (3/5 - the dip/soup was the best part). We then had the jhol momo (4/5), the fried momo (3/5), and the butter chicken (score TBD, we ended up having to box it right up and take it home because our babysitter was about to leave). I love how vegetarian friendly they are! Now to the reason I'm giving them 3 stars: we came in at 6:15pm with a reservation and were seated right away. About 30 minutes later, when we hadn't even been given water, I walked up to see if we were supposed to order at the counter and I was told no, they will come take our order but they can't do it right now. About 20 minutes later (honestly as we were googling other dinner places nearby) the waitress finally came and took our order. She was very nice and I could tell she was overwhelmed, I definitely felt for her! She told us it would be about 25-30 minutes to get our food and we ordered. We got our first app 45 minutes later and the rest of the food trickled out over the next hour. I totally get they were overwhelmed, I just saw a ton of to-go orders go out the door and very few orders making it to tables so I wish they'd prioritize people dining in over takeout. read more

30 July 2022 (Saturday) -- As I sit here by the pool at a vacation house in Naples, Florida, I figured I would write this review now. Don't let the outside of this Nepalese restaurant fool you because the food inside is very delicious. I visited for the first time on 26 June 2022 (dine-in) with a new friend, Nihal, and then I came a second time on 14 July for a takeout order. I will definitely be back again. FOOD -- For my first visit which was dine-in, I ordered the Chicken Biryani and I shared the vegetable momo with my friend. The Chicken Biryani was as expected - tasty, heaps amount of chicken was in the huge bowl, and some cilantro leaves were placed on top. It had thick slices of onions on top which I removed because I hate onions. I've had chicken biryani many times before at other restaurants and also because I have alot of Indian friends so I was happy it tasted just as I preferred. It also wasn't spicy at all but you should definitely ask the restaurant about spice leaves in case you are weary about spice (I just happen to like spicy foods). The vegetable momo was definitely my favourite which I shared with my friend. it was soft like a dumblings and the momo sauce was amazing. I wish I knew what was in the sauce but it had almost a thick consistency. We also ordered the Poori (bread) to share which was soft and had some sort of oil or butter on top. For my takeout order in July, I ordered the chicken biryani again and also the Aloo Gobi which is a peas and cauliflower mixture that can be eaten with naan bread or rice (Cauliflower, potato and peas cooked with tomatoes sauce, herbs and spices). I ate mine with rice and it was delicious. This is a great option for vegetarians. The chicken biryani was also good but it had too many thin slices of onions which is just a preference thing because I just hate onions (LOL) so I had to remove the little onion slices. SERVICE -- Dine-in and takeout had efficient service. For dine-in, my friend and I probably waited about 25 mins to get our food. For the takeout order, it was about the same time. INSIDE/DECOR -- As you walk-in, the inside is a medium size dining room with white table cloths and the chairs are covered in a red material. I loved that they served water in a clear glass bottle which reminds of the classy/fancy restaurants. There are minimum decorations on the wall but there are some mirrors and a maybe few picture frames. I'll definitely be back in the future and I recommend Cafe Everest to everyone for lunch or dinner. Today was my first time trying Cafe Everest, and I'm pretty sure, trying Nepalese food. I have to say I'm sorry I didn't try it sooner! Everything was just so delicious. The vegetable pakora appetizer was fantastic, veggies shredded and served like fritters. I was anticipating more of a tempura like vegetable, with the typical whole fried vegetable, but this was honestly much so much better. My new favorite way to enjoy fried vegetables. The Paneer Tikka Masala was equally delicious, paneer cheese served in a creamy sauce. Served over the basmati rice that was included, just perfect. I also tried the Jhol Momo, which is like a little steamed vegetable dumpling (or chicken), in an amazing soup. These were cooked to perfection, just right, and the soup was so good. I can't believe this amazing restaurant is so close by and I've never tried it. I happened upon it by searching DoorDash while super hungry, so happy I found them. Nepalese-Indian food, a first for me so I came in swinging! Easy parking as this place is located in a mini plaza of businesses right next to a liquor store. If I didn't hear about this place I would have easily driven past it and not thought twice. While waiting seemed like this place was popular on door dash, lots of pick up orders. I started with Jhol Momo, an entree in itself (I thought it was an appetizer). I got about 8 steamed dumpling filled with minced chicken. All these babies bathed in jacuzzi if herby broth. Would definitely order again or recommend to others. At the recommendation of the waitress, also got the chicken choila. Chicken was a bit salty for me and would have paired fine with some rice. On the same plate was salad and a pile of what seemed like crushed corn flakes (was not a fan). The salad was helpful neutralizing the salt in mouth after each bite until I got some rice that was served from another dish. Perusing the menu under specials, was the "Nepali Special Thali (dine in only)" which stood out to me as if waving arms and screaming "order me bish" . I succumbed. It was a nice sampler of Nepalese items including some greens, picked radish, lentil soup, chicken curry and some curried vegetables. In the middle was a bowl of basmati rice, perfect to balance out the bold herb and salt of the dishes. Also ordered lamb curry but forgot to snap a pic. With the weather getting better it was time for a motorcycle ride and I needed a lunch destination. I had been wanting to try Momos and some Nepali friends at work recommended Cafe Everest, so after a nice ride along Lake Erie and then along the Rocky River Reservation I arrived at Cafe Everest on Puritas Avenue East of 150th Street. Cafe Everest is in a small plaza next to a Convenient Food Mart, from the outside it looks like a dive and even when you walk in the front prep and pick-up area looks pretty rough, but then you see the compact upscale dining room. The dining room is very nicely decorated with white tablecloths, red fabric chairs and red and yellow walls. They then impressed me even more by putting a glass bottle of chilled water on the table; if only more places would do something like this. The menu is nicely laid out and makes the offerings clear, I picked the Chilly Momos with the vegetarian momos. No lunch buffet is offered. Before the entree they brought a bowl of lentil soup; a bit thin but really well seasoned with a nice peppery bite. The Chilly Momos came out beautifully presented on a square white plate which gave a nice contrast to the red chilly sauce covered dumplings. The dumplings were smaller then I expected, but really delicious. The dumplings are nicely fried giving the outside a nice crisp outside. Inside is minced vegetables perfectly seasoned so that the whole is delicious. The dumplings were covered with peppers and onions in a chili sauce the heat level was moderate. Overall Cafe Everest exceeded my expectations, great atmosphere, excellent food and good service. I will be back again, if only to try the steamed Momos or the soup Momos, as well as other items on the menu. Well worth a try if you want to try Nepali food. read more

I have a favorite Nepali place but because it's so far away from me, I was excited to try a place that was closer. I went with my usual, chicken chow mein and a mango lassi. I asked for the chow mein to not be spicy since I wasn't sure how they did their spice (Nepali spice has kicked by butt before) but for my taste buds, it was still quite spicy. Cafe Everest could be my new favorite Indian/Nepali restaurant! Decided on this spot for the great reviews and very glad we tried it. Honestly, from the outside, I was kind of leery, but Mamma taught me never to judge a book by its cover and I've read some killer books with that in mind, but I digress. The inside of the restaurant is much more impressive and I enjoyed the decor. They also play videos from India on their TV's and I always like that. Some of the videos have such wonderful and colorful outfits. Now, to the food!!! We ordered an appetizer and two entrees and I shot for the special, so they let me know it would take a little longer and I was just fine with that. They brought us out our drinks and even gave us complimentary lentil soup that I enjoyed. The appetizer was delicious and the special entree was spectacular! This hole in the wall, unassuming restaurant is a gem in Cleveland for Nepalese/ Indian dishes! I brought some first-timers with me, and they were all impressed with the dishes, the flavors, and the unbeatable price. We started off with a mango lassi, samosas, and johl momo (chicken). Everything was quickly demolished by the table, with the johl momos being our favorite due to the rich, savory soup combined with the hearty dumplings! For the entrees, we all split a chicken tikka masala, chicken thukpa (Nepalese home style chicken noodle soup) and aloo gobi (that all came with rice). My personal favorite was the chicken thukpa, a soupy noodle dish with a bit of spiciness that I could not stop eating). The rest of the table really enjoyed the richness and flavor of the chicken tikka masala, using up all the sauce to eat with the rice. The aloo gobi was pretty good -- however, I've had better at other places with larger portions of potatoes/ veggies. This unassuming restaurant opened about a year ago and boy are we lucky they did. The restaurant itself is quaint with kind and caring servers and staff members. You can tell how proud they are of their restaurant. I honestly couldn't choose just one dish so I ordered two vegetarian dishes. The Paneer tikka masala and the Alu gobbi. The star of the show, the paneer, was the best I've ever had. Even my boyfriend couldn't stop eating my food! I liked the alu gobbi because of the hint of spice but probably wouldn't order that dish again. The plain roti was fresh, monos were so tender, and the lentil soup was incredibly flavorful. We parked out front, and walked in to find a small dining area with bright, warm yellow walls. It was a nice contrast to the cold, dark winter evening. The service was excellent. Everyone was extremely kind and attentive. We were immediately served cold water in a bottle, and all of our dishes came out promptly. After placing our order, we were surprised to receive complementary Lentil Soups. It was a quite large, filling serving and it was creamy and flavorful. Next we got the vegetable MoMos. Amazing. These are Nepalese dumplings: minced vegetables that are marinated in spices, stuffed into a flour wrap and steamed. There are 10 to an order! The dough was soft, thin, and pillowy. They were beautifully prepared. The filling still had a nice crunch and was well seasoned. It came with Momo sauce - slightly spiced and gingery. I enjoyed the Rajma Chawal, which are kidney beans cooked with herbs and spices served with basmati rice. It has a distinct tomato and ginger flavor, is well balanced, and is delicious spooned over rice. My partner got the Chicken Choila, which is grilled chicken marinated with everest herbs and stir fried with ginger, onions, garlic, tomatoes, and cilantro. It is served with beaten rice and fried soybeans. Each piece of chicken was well coated in the seasoning. He said the chicken had a nice texture. I enjoyed munching on the fried soybeans. Cafe Everest is a phenomenal restaurant that offers Nepali/Indian cuisine. The menu offers some traditional dishes like tikka masala and biryani as well as a wide variety of dishes I have never tried before. My family and I ordered the chicken jhol momo (minced chicken dumplings in a flavorful soup - highly recommend!!!), paneer tikka masala (my personal favorite), and chicken sekwa (grilled marinated chicken). All of the dishes were bursting with flavor and the portion sizes were very generous for the price (especially the tikka masala). The curries come with basmati rice. I also ordered a mango lassi, a yogurt based mango drink, which was a refreshing touch to our meal. As a heads up, the thali is no longer offered (despite it being on the menu for dine-in).
