This has always been one of my favorite restaurants for Indian food, and I've told so many people about it. I went back today and was honestly so upset because my go-to dish, the paneer makhini, was nothing like it used to be. It literally just tasted like straight cream. I even asked them to remake it because I thought something was wrong, but it came out the same way. I ended up just eating the other food we ordered, but it was such a disappointment because this has always been the dish I look forward to. I even showed them old photos from past visits compared to today and it was clearly different. The chef tried it and said it was the same, which shocked me because it really wasn't. We thoroughly enjoyed our pickup order from Himalayan Restaurant for dinner recently. We did a family meal combo to sample something of everything. Our order included: cocktail samosas, palak paneer, baigan bharta, and the chicken tikka masala. The meal comes with three naan and rice on the side, as well as a dessert. We went with the gulab jamun. I also wanted an order of soup momos, so we added that onto our already robust order as well. (They didn't disappoint, so delicious.) Everything was well-balanced and spiced. I especially love that we were able to split the portions across multiple meals given how generous the naan was. The most beloved item was definitely the momos in the spicy/sour soup, followed by the buttery naan dipped in chicken tikka masala. I also really enjoyed the baigan bharta. So very enjoyed this meal, and I can't wait to try some of the other menu items that other diners have recommended. read more

We visited this restaurant before but never reviewed and thought this visit was worth it to review. The atmosphere outside was simple and inside decor was nothing gaudy but pleasant curb appeal. Dining room seating was ample and we were seated right away. A steady stream of customers during our hour long meal so good thing we came early. The host greeted us and the waitress was quite attentive. We were going to order ala carte and saw the inclusive items on the menu and decided to order as seen in the photos. There many items to try but these were what jumped out. Water was immediately brought to our table and our order was accurate and arrived hot and tasted fresh. The MOMO were dumplings and we elected the handmade version. The curry lamb and chicken tiki masala were medium spicy- good thing as any spicier would be too spicy. Tandoori Chicken was on a sizzling hot plate over onions and that was tasty but not too salty. I love their weekend buffet, but I can't give them five stars. Sometimes, their tandoori chicken is way too dry, as if it was leftovers from the day before and reheated. But, when it's good and freshly made, it is terrific. One thing I recently noticed is that some of their dishes look Chinese/Panda Express inspired, which I do not like at all. I wish they'd keep their dishes more Nepalese/ Indian. I'd much rather see my favorite dishes more consistently like the mushrooms and green/red peppers, okra, creamed spinach, green peas in orange sauce, and roasted potatoes. So when out on the road for business, sometimes I'm not a social dinner person. I Door Dashed my dinner from Himalayan Restaurant as I wanted to eat something different, rather than a steak house. I thought I was hungry, but I only ate half of what I ordered, and wish I could have saved it for the next day lol! This was excellent in all the flavors and spices you taste on Indian food. I'm glad I chose this one, as there are a few different Indian restaurants in the area. If I was to do it all over again, I'd do it without having to try somewhere not knowing. Food is typically excellent. The quality and consistency has slightly gone down recently but when they're on their game, it's some of the best food I've had. We've ordered some of the basic chicken dishes (butter and tika masala) with samosas, momo, and naan and everything has tasted great. They forgot 1 naan on a previous order, but alas, no one is perfect. With that being said, you need to mentally prepare yourself while ordering over the phone. I was deep in search of lunch specials and came across Himalayan. I've always wanted to try, think I've been to another one of their locations before like 20years ago. They don't have lunch buffet other than on Sundays, which I guess not too much a bummer. I can't eat that much anymore (except I still want to). The express lunch option during the weekdays was a good enough taste. The grand plate was perfect for us bc it allows us to try all their lunch specials entrees. The quantity was fantastic and definitely left full. Service was a bit slow, like most restaurants understaffed, but they were very friendly. The menu is extensive, would like to come back for a try on the family meals which I think are a deal. The dining room is alot bigger than I originally thought as the back area expands to the buffet area. Was kind of quiet right at lunch time on a Friday, but we didn't need to have it crammed with folks. The staff sat us a table apart from other tables so that was well appreciated. A good try, but thought the dishes didn't have that umph of flavor that I was looking for. Good news for those that cant handle spice, but I like to sweat a little. The naan was super hot and fresh. I particularly liked the paneer and the daal. If I was to come back for a lunch I'll just order the two entree option instead of three, now that I've had my try. read more

We used to visit the lunch buffet here, before the pandemic. We went often enough to know we liked it, but not often enough to know the names of the dishes we liked. Fortunately they have a menu with lots of pictures, so I was able to recognize what I wanted! Still, we took a while deciding, which may account for why our server seemed a bit annoyed with us. The rest of the staff seemed very pleasant, though. For those in suspense about what happened to the buffet, they do still have it, but only on Sundays. Its a smaller restaurant, well-attended but not crowded. A calm and relaxing atmosphere. There's music, but soft enough that it sets a pleasant tone without being distracting. This is a weekday lunch observation - the buffet that all the oldies are referring to is on Sundays-only, apparently. Yes, I miss the buffet, but that is not what we're talking about here. I hope to get to the buffet soon so I can update the review. They have an Express Lunch deal here (between $10 and $13). I got the 2 entrée channa masala and chicken makhani. The food comes in a metal tray (like so many prison movies!). An odd choice... not in terms of the food quality, but in terms of matching the ambience of the restaurant. The quantity doesn't look like much, but it is very flavorful and filling. The spice level is there, but I'm not a great barometer of spiciness. We also got the spicy momo app... the dough wrapper was a pretty tough - that may be a factor of the deep frying. I'd like to try it again (perhaps steamed) before passing a final judgement! The service is pretty good... though a bit inconsistent. The order-taker was a bit disinterested, but the team that brought out the food were much more engaged! Great delivery, everything was super warm and packed nicely. We ordered the mixed Tandoori grill which had shrimp, two kinds of chicken, fish, lamb and some other kind of sausages we enjoyed. The fish was a bit too fishy so it didn't get eaten. We also ordered Malai Kofta which was super delicious. I ordered the meat medium spicy and the vegetable dish a little bit more spicy and I'll tell you what, they were both really really spicy. We were both sweating like crazy by the time we were done eating. A nice cool yogurt sauce would've been good with all the heat. All in all, we really enjoyed the food except for the fish. A prelude to a great indian restaurant is how the nan and samosas taste. Himalayan comes through on both. The samosas were one of the best ive had and the garlic nans glistening with butter and fluffy. Had the spicy chicken tikka and another dish with ground cashew. The entree portions were a decent size and delicious. So hard to find a decent indian restaurant outside the city to avoid the parking and congestion. The search is over for now, this will be my goto for when im having a craving for indian. I will be going back to try the other dishes. read more

I was on the search for a new place to try for a weekday lunch special. Came across Himalayan Restaurant seeing the lunch special offerings and decided to give it a try. It was not that busy inside during a Friday lunch time. We ordered 2 of the Grand Plate lunch specials and were able to try all 6 of the entree choices. For $12.99, you get 3 entrees of your choice from 6, rice and Naan. The portions were good. There was something to be lacking in the flavors, I wish there was more. The rice did not have any flavor to it, the Naan was okay and the entrees were lacking in a real depth of flavor. When I was reading some reviews, yelpers mentioned that it was lacking any spice, so though okay this would be okay for the children then. But it really was lacking on the deep variety of flavors you see in this cuisine. read more

Sad to say the lunch buffet has really gone down in quality. I used to always love the lunch buffet, and have been going for years, but this time I was less than impressed. The food tasted like it had been sitting out for hours. On top of that, 3 trays were almost completely empty, and 2 trays looked like the sauce had separated and was oily. The rice was hard and the paneer dishes had no paneer left in them. Maybe I just came at a bad time but this is unacceptable. They also removed the golub jaman dessert balls from the buffet which was a favorite of mine! I generally enjoy the off-the-menu entrees and experience at Himalayan, but their buffet is lacking. The tandoori chicken was overcooked and dry. The serving utensil handles were dirty, leaving a sauce on my hands (gross, right?!?). Some of the other dishes were lukewarm. The lamb dish was all bones, no meat. That said, the cabbage was delicious, as was the hot pan brought to the table. I'll come back, but not for the buffet. read more

Before COVID the food here was much better. I returned on a Saturday with a friend to try the buffet but the buffet had changed a lot. First, I want to preface that I love Indian food. What I notice right away: bread called naan was premade, and kept warm. A big mistake in my opinion. In the past they would bring the bread as it was baked in the tandoori oven to your table. As a result of letting bread sit there, it was hard and dry not fluffy crispy buttery like it should be. None of the proteins like tomato curry or the chicken tandoori reflect authentic spices that I had in the past instead, it was bland. The paneer was just OK. The only protein I did like was the goat, that was delicious. Desert in this area again, the keer and the little honey balls were also bland. Indian food should be Fresh in the Buffet needs to be full of flavor, authentic not bending to the America pallet, and definitely not skipping on quality. The cost of the Buffay went way up $22 a plate. I was sad. I really wanted to support this restaurant because I used to love it. I would take everyone I know there in the past they even made the place bigger, but I won't be returning. read more

We came for dinner. The service was prompt and friendly. The waitress was very helpful with recommendations and suggestions in light of our spice level requests. The vegetable fritter appetizer was very good and the condiments complemented the fried taste quite well. We ordered the mixed grill platter which was a great deal of food, all protein no veggies, well seasoned and with sufficient to take home. The shrimp curry was seasoned and balanced and had plenty of grilled shrimp. We took home the leftover sauce. It will liven up some chicken later this week. Enjoyed the samosas, naan and chicken Tikka with a friend. Samosas definitely had a kick but we're delicious. Tikka was great. Im a sucker for Indian-style buffets and this one is really good. They have it 7 days a week for $10.95 which is a solid value for the quality of food you get. The buffet had a setup of maybe 10 curries, tons of vegetarian options, tandoori chicken, rice pudding, and a salad bar. My favorites were probably the chicken makhani and the tandoori chicken. The chicken makhani was super creamy and flavorful. I don't usually like tandoori chicken but this one had a super super good char flavor and was not dry. But really all of the curries were good quality - and they didn't all taste the same! The selection and quality at this buffet are great. Pretty much everything tasted really good. My family and I have struggled for years to find great Indian food in the burbs, and this is the best we've found in a long time. Everything came out juicy, including the chicken which is usually drier than bricks. The saag was amazing, the lamb melted in our mouths, and even the vegetarian options were great.
