While I'm far from a professional food critic or an expert on Indian food I know good food when I eat it & Mughai The Biryani House serves some outstanding food Mughai The Biryani House (MTBH) is located near the corner of Northwest Highway on Touhy Ave right next to Bluefish Sushi Bistro in the same mall. I went to lunch there today and split a couple of dishes w/my buddy. We ordered the following dishes * Butter Chicken - Excellent maybe the best butter chicken I ever tried. Tender chicken w/a rich red sauce & a plate of rice w/cilantro. * Non Vegetarian Lunch Combo - chunks of crispy chicken w/rice & cilantro. This also came w/a small bowl of chicken chetinaad (excellent), a small bowl of yogurt, small sweet ball dripping in sweet sauce * Hot fresh Garlic Naan Overall this was an excellent lunch w/excellent food & service. This is the best meal I've had in a long time & I will definitely be back again. read more

Returned to the very good food here in Park Ridge. Had the non-veg lunch special for $22.95. This platter used to be $16.95, then $19-has mysteriously been upped recently by 35%. A shocking increase with no change to the plate. Food was good. Room is pleasant. No real hospitality present on this visit. They tried to tack on a 3% credit card surcharge and I told the girl to take it off. Used to be so pleasant and now they nickel and dime the loyal customer. read more

We gave this place a try since we happened to be in the neighborhood after a long day of shopping and car shopping. We got our seat quickly since I made a reservation on open table. Inside place there's not too many tables but sufficient as there was never a line waiting. Food we ordered was great. Loved the chili chicken appetizer, we got it spicy which was enough. I don't think I could have handled extra spicy. The chettinad lamb was good too, but to me personally felt too salty but the flavor was still good. I took away 1 star as the raita I asked for never came. After serving our food we never got checked on... and took forever to get the bill just waiting... just seems they could use atleast another staff member. read more

I had trouble finding the parking but there's a central lot at the side of the restaurant with ample parking. The decor is very nice and it's very spacious. As you enter it definitely feels like an upscale Indian restaurant. In general, the food was excellent but smaller portions for the price. We got some garlic naan, veg samosa and paneer 65 for appetizers. The paneer 65 was so unique to me...I've never had fried cottage cheese but it was delicious. We ate family style and ordered the masala dosa, chicken biryani, chicken tikka masala, lamb curry and mango lassi for drinks. Service was very good, they have a call me button on the table so u can call the waiter at any time but we didn't need to since they were very attentive. Prices were higher for the portion size but I found it acceptable considering the dining experience. read more

Space is mid size with several tables. Each table has call button. But did not get service when you press the bell. So the system was not very efficient. Service was slow on Sunday afternoon. We got our coffee at the end of the meal rather than at the beginning.Paneer curry came latter than the biryani. Mushroom Pepper fry - 4/5 - taste was good but addition of raw green onion was too much.much. it was not adding anything to the dish. Egg Biryani- 4/5 - tasty and flavorful Onion on side is paid dish Paneer mutter masala - 4/5 - Tasty , big peices of soft paneer, curry is little thin Filter coffee- 4/5 - good taste but way less for the price you pay. read more

Update, has acquired a not-as-fresh feeling. Upon subsequent visit we were given a bottle opener for our wine, and then waited 20 minutes before we got the wine glasses. Imagine opening a bottle of wine, and sitting there... No one came back. We pushed the little button and nothing. Lack of professional management and service has emerged here. read more

Came here for dinner and it was a lovely experience! It seems to be a newer restaurant. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious! We sat by the window, so it was peaceful looking outside while we waited for our food. Veg Samosa: very tasty. The pastry was perfectly fried and in combo with the right samosa filling, delightful bites with the chutney. Chicken 65 Biriyani Special (comes with Raita yogurt sauce and a piece of Gulub jamun): best biriyani I've had in Illinois. Chicken was tender and the rice was flavorful. The raita went really well with it. I love the surprise dessert that came with it! Masala Dosa: served on a proper Indian lunch tray with Sambar and chutneys for dipping. I'm always a sucker for masala dosa. I wish there was a bit more filling. It was tasty! We will definitely be back for the Biriyani! read more

An expansive sit down multi cuisine restaurant in a Park Ridge residential/commercial building that serves standard North Indian fare along with less common South Indian specialties like Hyderabadi Biryanis and Chettinad curries as well as some Indian Chinese. I like the fact that the authentic curries and biryanis are made to 'Indian spice' levels. Prices are a bit high but the portion sizes are generous and food quality and taste are consistent. Service is good albeit a bit leisurely. This seems to be a popular neighborhood spot with people dining in quite late into the night (open until midnight usually). Recommended for the off beat South Indian fare which is tasty and authentic. read more

I just had a late lunch/early dinner here (Sunday, 3-16-2025, 3-4 pm). Been dying to come here ever since my favorite South Indian restaurant, Trilokah, moved to Lincoln Park this past late January! In brief, the food, service, and ambience were all EXCELLENT!!! I ordered the lamb curry with coconut milk, boneless fish curry with coconut milk, Okra Masala-North Style, Aloo Gobi Masala, Jeerah Rice, Rava Masala Dosa, and Indian Masala Tea. My 2 servers did a great job advising me on my order (e.g. which parts of India the dish was from, like Kerala, Tamil Nandu, and Delhi), serving the dishes quickly, and clearing the empty dishes from my table! Best. Indian. Ever. I love Indian cuisine but now realize I had never tasted the best. You've probably tried "butter chicken" or Chicken Tikka- Mughal's is better. Fair warning- one person cannot finish a Biriyani- it's enormous and different/ better than I'm used to- the waiter told me it's because they use real saffron. My daughter ordered a goat dish- Chettinad curry goat, spice level 8, and thought it was perfect. We had tons to bring home. GF friendly for sure as my husband has celiac and had plenty of options. Order 3 dishes for 4 people or be prepared to bring home leftovers. I loved the quiet atmosphere and ability to easily hear table conversation without noise. Amazing!!!! This is the best Indian food I've ever had in my life. I've been around the block a bit and have had quite a bit. However this spot will turn someone who is skeptical on trying it a mad lover! If you have been curious, go and be mesmerized. I literally will make the trek just to have it. What I've had are the following: Butter chicken (absolutely the best damn butter chicken of my life. Buttery, tender chicken, thick sauce, and just absolutely flavorful curry) Lamb saag (spinach, butter, lovely spices and tender pieces of lamb) Chicken Biryani (how they fried the chicken is outstanding. The vegetable biryani and chicken biryani are the best we've ever had. Incredible seasoning (seems quite complex). Not greasy. The vegetarian biryani also had delicious roasted cauliflower in this deep purple tone (colored with beets?), and the rice itself was filled with potatoes, peas and green beans. We were struck by how beautiful both of our dishes looked, and each one was enough for 2-3 meals. They also came with a small container of raita with red onion and garlic, and a little dessert (the classic gulab jamun ball in sugar syrup). I don't enjoy leaving bad reviews for restaurants because one experience usually isn't enough to judge an entire restaurant by. However, in this case, I wanted to say something so others are aware. My order consisted of Chicken 65 biryani, Idly, some naan and ras malai. My order arrived an hour late, which I already wasn't too happy about. My order was $60+, so I was expecting a decent amount of food. What arrived a small box of biryani and 2 ras malai. The Idly and naan had good portion sizes, but I was incredibly disappointed by the amount of the biryani and ras malai I received for the price I put in. Furthermore, the taste of the biryani was incredibly average. The Chicken 65 chicken had so much spice added that it just tasted like spice. I love spice, but the food needs to have flavor BEYOND just tasting like the main spice you added. Overall, I had a very disappointing experience and I'm ambivalent about ordering again due to some of the food being (in my opinion) overpriced. read more

We recently dined in at Mughal The Biryani House and were extremely impressed! It was by far our favorite lamb tikka masala we have tried. The Chili Chicken was so tender and delicious. Was in town for a quick weekend getaway and was craving some comfort food. Came across this place based on yelp reviews and thought to give it a try and so glad we did. The food was amazing! The masala dosa was crispy and the accompanying chutneys were delicious with a nice kick. We also order the butter chicken which had such deep flavors. Overall a meh experience. Food is delicious, however we had some of the worst service I've ever had in my life. We were told multiple times the waiter would get something and they never did. Ordered two plates of Naan and never got the second, were told we would get a box for leftovers and it never came. The waiters use a call button for attention instead of checking in continuously which works when they actually show, but 70% of our calls went unanswered and we sat waiting for at least 30 minutes total for things we needed. Given the amount of other delicious Indian places in the area, I don't imagine coming back to this one. read more

The best Indian food I've ever had. I consider myself decently experienced with Indian food over the time I've been alive, and this place has the best food by far. The service is impeccable. For a person on the autism spectrum like me, the way they handle table service is perfect. Once you place your order, and have your food, you can push a button on the table to request further service, and until then they give you privacy and space. It's perfect for me. The music they played when I was in was a playlist of pop songs that are remixed into string instrumental arrangements. My friends and I all got a genuine chuckle out of it, and I genuinely loved it. Good music, good atmosphere, good service, and phenomenal food. What more can you ask for? I personally got the Biriyani as it is the namesake of the restaurant and I was extremely happy. I decided to give it a try because some of the pictures looked great. I was not disappointed. This food made me feel like I've never eaten real Indian food before because it was that amazing. I started with some Masala tea which was rich. For an appetizer we had the medhu vada, a tender lentil flour donut in gravy that was complex and perfectly seasoned. We tried the Hyderabad birani special which included fried chili chicken and a dessert. The chili fried chicken was literally so good. The dosa's blew my mind. Crispy, buttery, savory, with the fresh coriander chutney or umami tomato sauce on the side. Our waiter was friendly and passionate as they helped explain what everything on the menu was. Absolutely superb, delicious food! The server took pride in the offerings and the chef had very high standards. The service is sincere, helpful, but still finding their footing with efficiency. The restaurant is brand new, so it's understandable. The ambiance is modern, with pleasant background music and landscape videos. (Thankfully, not a sports bar!) Read the so-called "glowing" reviews so we dropped by for a takeout. Ordered the goat biryani and chicken curry. Upon opening the packet, we got a whiff of stale food. True enough, the biryani rice smelled, felt and tasted stale. The curry looked disgusting with a weird deep, dark color. There were lots of little bones. The texture of the meat scraps around the bones felt dry as if they came out of a food dehydrator. I immediately called the manager and lodged a complaint. The manager said the chef must have mistakenly packed the stale food. He said stale food was usually fed to his workers. He promised to refund the money but didn't. I'm writing this review due to being served rotten food. I'm also writing this with the hope that this restaurateur will stop feeding stale, inedible food to his customers and workers. Nobody deserves to fall sick. And oh, five-star rating? read more

Mughal is a relatively new player in the Park Ridge restaurant pool but the food here is made with a level of passion and pride in providing a quality experience and depth of flavors I've rarely found anywhere else. Every dish we sampled here seemed something of a perfected version of what we'd come to expect elsewhere while maintaining the satisfaction of a home cooked meal. My only hesitation in giving it the praise I think it deserves is in knowing the sooner others find out about Mughal's food the harder it will be to get a table there but the chef and staff here deserve the success I suspect they'll realize swiftly.
